Itunes and Updater not recognising Ipod

Hi everyone!
I wanted to share with you my problem. I've been reading for a long and trying everything: 5R's and even re-installing windows, but nothing seems to work.
I have a opperating system Windows Xp SP2 and NOD32 as antivirus. I was using my Ipod correctly and it was working great. The problem is when I tried to plug it to another laptop under windows. It didn't recognise it, and when I try back on mine, is not recognised again. Itunes doesn't show it, Updater gives errors (such as another program is using Ipod),It charges and hopefully the Ipod works correctly.
What can I do? I'm thinking about asking AppleStore to change it becouse it's still under the warranty. Do you think that with a new Ipod I will be able to connect it agin to my pc?
Please try to help me! I don't want to change my Ipod and wait again!

Any halp for that?

    I think this might help!
    1. Go to My Computer
    2. Go to Manage and then Device Manager (if you have Vista just click on System Properties up at the top and then on the left-hand side you should see Device Manager.)
    3. In Device Manager you should see portable devices or something similar and there will be a thing directly under it that says unrecognizable device or once again something similar.
    4. Click on that and you should get an option that tells you you don't have the device driver for the unrecognizable device, and you should get the option to download that.
    5. I just downloaded the driver and my computer automatically found it on the internet, and now it works.

  • HT1414 new iphone 3, had trouble setting up, took about 5 hours and call to Texas, finally sorted by following morning. Now  after 5 weeks No Service suddenly appears and no closing down etc makes any difference. Connect to itunes and SIM not recognised!

what do you do when new iphone 3 will not accept SIM card which it has been doing since I bought it 6 weeks ago but now suddenly No Service and will not recognise SIM. Had this trouble on initial start up, took a 3 hour conversation with Apple USA to get it going. Can't connect to itunes because it won't recognise the SIM. Cannot remember what we did to get it going last time as it took so long and we did so many different things. Any suggestions other than put it in the bin!

First, though the phone is "new" to you, it really is a 5 year old piece of equipment.  Ancient by current standards.
Have you obtained a replacement SIM from your carrier?

  • Itunes and computer not recognising nano 6th gen?

my itunes is not recognising my  ipod nano. i have tried the restore (which would not work with my pc it is synced with, had to use a different one to restore) and every other troubleshooting option apart from reinstalling itunes, which is not an option for me as it affects other users itunes libraries on the pc. the cord works with other apple ipods. the nano works with other computers. i have since uninstalled the ipod nano in computer device manager, but am unsure of how to reinstall. now itunes AND my computer are not recognising the ipod. what steps can i take to make it work again? also, if it helps, it comes up with a message saying the device has been recognised but then has an error message saying it wont work and if the problem persists to reinstall itunes, which i will state again, i am not willing to do. last resort. thank you to anyone who helps.

  • Fix for iTunes and Windows not recognizing iPod after 7.7 upgrade...

    ..it worked for me!
XP wanted drivers for the iPod, and I used the method in this doc with one exception:
iPod is not recognized properly by computer when USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
...when the wizard came up and asked to look for the driver, I clicked "Search for the best driver in these locations" except instead of windows/inf I went to system32/drivers and found a subfolder with USBAAPL.SYS [the driver name] in the title... it was a hidden folder so you'll have to have them visible to see it. Using that folder as the target for the search picked it up immediately and then everything was fine.

    Hello Overdrive_king,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I'm assuming you also tried using different USB ports (preferably ones attached directly to the motherboard) as well as using a different USB cable as well just for good measure?
If you choose Computer from the Start menu, does your iPod show up as a mounted drive there? What happens if you put it into disk mode using the instructions provided here.

It might also help to try the other solutions mentioned in this article related to your issue as necessary (I know you have already tried a number of them).

And lastly, it wouldn't hurt to remove and re-install the necessary drivers for your iPod.

can i put it into disk mode if the computer doesnt recognise it at all?
    Yes, you can.
"Putting your iPod into disk mode" is simply a process that involves pressing a few buttons on your iPod, getting it into Disk Mode.
To put your iPod into Disk Mode, follow the steps in this article -> Putting your iPod into Disk Mode
As Bryan said, see if the iPod is recognized by your computer when it's in disk mode.

That could be a clear sign of a damaged hard disk.  Can you try and force the iPod into Disk Mode and then connect it to iTunes so you can attempt a restore or even a low level reformat of the iPod's HD/file system.
