ITunes and Windows Vista

I've just purchased a new computer. It came with Vista Home Premiun OS. When I download iTunes on it -- it works fine until the computer is shut down. When the computer is then started again the DVD/CD driver software cannot be found. The drive won't recognize anything. If I uninstall iTunes it works fine, I reload iTunes and it works fine until I shut down again -- then it doesn't find it again.
I am pretty sure I have the most updated version of Vista (although I will check asap) and know that I have most updated iTunes (just downloaded) -- anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it....other going back to XP or uninstalling iTunes?

It would be best first to check for a device filter conflict:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
... however, if you're still getting no CD/DVD drive with just the iTunes filters in place, you may be one of the unlucky ones who are getting the issue discussed here:
Optical drives not recognized in Windows Vista after installing iTunes 7
Although it wouldn't necessarily be a short-term solution, keep an eye on that document for updated information about the issue.
In the short term, one workaround might be to use a different application to rip the CDs, and then use the "Add to library" function to get the ripped files into your iTunes. The following document might be of some help with that:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions

  • Is there a fix for the incompatibility between itunes and Windows Vista?

I'm having a problem with itunes and Windows Vista. When I download itunes it disables my dvd drive. I have found a fix for that by deleting some registry items, but when I do that itunes is disabled. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

    Hey Don,
What exactly happens after you install iTunes? Do you see an error message?

  • Problems with iTunes and Windows Vista

I just got a new dell computer that came with Windows Vista. I'm new to Vista, and just downloaded iTunes. I was able to add my music and it will play, but I can't edit track information. I downloaded iTunes from the administrator account, so I don't know what the problem is or how to fix it. Please help!!

For windows vista, like someone suggested, it may change your permission for editing a file and appear grey screen. As such, the following step might solve this problem.
Go to "Computer", go to your portable hard drive, right click and go to "Properties". Select "Security" Under the "group and user names" choose your user name. To change the permission, choose "Edit" Under permission column, choose "Full Control". After this you may able to edit song information in your itunes.

  • Ipod nano, new itunes, and windows vista

    Hello,
I just recently bought a new computer that came with windows vista. With all the problems i've been having, I was sure that I would have problems with iTunes...
Well everything went surprisingly well when installing the new iTunes and adding all of my music files to the library. I nervously connected my iPod to the USB, thinking it would erase all of my files but I was happy to discover that my computer recognized my iPod and remembered that I keep it so that I can manually manage my music.
Now the problem is that, when I connect my iPod it comes up with a list of tabs, (summary, music etc...)...the summary tab says that my iPod has 13M left out of 4 gigs which is correct...but when I click on the music tab, it does not show the list of music in my iPod...so I cannot edit what is on my iPod. It gives me the option of syncing my iPod to my iTunes library, but I don't want to do that because it will erase everything that is already on my iPod, and I'm afraid that I'll have problems after that such as not being able to add songs onto it. When I eject my iPod and look through it, I find all of the songs still on it....is there an option somewhere that I'm overlooking? Is this something that has to do with the new iTunes or do you think it may be something with Vista?
any input would be appreciated, thanks.

This has nothing to do with Windows Vista, it's basically just one of the changes from iTunes 6 to iTunes 7. If you look in the left-hand column of iTunes (the source list) you should see the name of your iPod below the word "devices." If you look to the left of the name of the iPod icon, you should see a small triangle that appears to be pointing toward the iPod. Click on it. You should now see an additional menu below the iPod's name. If you click on "music" below your iPod, it should show you a list of what's on your iPod.
    Hope this helps!

  • ITunes and Windows Vista problem

I have Windows Vista and ran iTunes successfully for 8mos.  Now I'm getting a message box that says "iTunes has stopped working.  Close box and Windows will send a solution."  The solution, upgrading Windows, doesn't work.  Is Vista the problem?

Scan and Fix windows System files:
Can you go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
Restart the computer if it did actually repair or update files.
    Start iTunes again

  • Conflicts between Itunes and Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

I am looking to purchase a new pc with Windows Vista. What are some possible problems I could have with Itunes?

I have a new Windows Vista Home premium laptop and am NOT able to use the latest version of iTunes. Hopefully by the time you get your new computer, Apple will have taken the time to fix the garbage program that they are passing off as the latest version of iTunes.

  • ITunes and Windows Vista Movie Maker

I am asking for help and apologize if I am in the wrong area - we just purchased a computer and I need some help - we have an HP that came w/ Windows Vista. I am trying to make a movie on Windows Movie Maker and tried to import a song from Itunes that I purchased and it keeps coming up w/ an error about my system not having the codec. I have no idea what this means and need to know if I am doing something wrong. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated-I am trying to make a movie w/ my all my daughters pictures-she will be 1 this month-I know TMI, sorry. Thank you again

Well, there are two problems probably:
    1. I'm not sure if Windows Movie Maker can use AAC format files, and all of the files you download through iTunes are in AAC format.
    2. Even if Windows Movie Maker can use AAC format files (which I doubt it can), the AAC files through iTunes are DRM-encoded, which means they have copywrite protection which prevents their use outside of a specific set of iPods/iTunes.
If you want to use that particular song in your movie, it would be best to either find a source that is not copy-protected to download it from (notice I didn't suggest downloading it illegally ;>), or ... you can buy a CD with that song on it, and then rip it to MP3 to import into Windows Movie Maker.

  • Burning issues with itunes and Windows Vista Ultimate

I recently purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit version. Since loading itunes on my new computer I can not burn a CD. The message that I receive says that there is no burner available. I know the burner works because I have burned music out of different software programs. I have loaded and reloaded Nero 7 but I am finding that is not the problem. Itunes does not recognize any type of CD burner on my computer. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    paul's onto it.
if you run your DVD/CD diagnostics (in itunes "help > DVD/CD diagnostics", select DVD/CD diagnostics) and you see a 2380 error showing up down near the bottom of the diagnostics (you may need to scroll down a bit), try reinstalling the 64-bit version of the GEAR drivers iTunes uses for importing and burning.
here's a link through to the GEAR drivers. note that there are two different versions of the 64-bit drivers. be sure to get the one that matches your hardware:

  • Burning cds with itunes and Windows Vista

It seems like my problems with itunes are never ending on my HP laptop with Windows Vista. Originally, itunes screwed up my disc drive, but then I downloaded the 64 bit version of it and that turned out ok. However, whenever I started itunes it says it wasn't downloaded properly and I won't be able to import or burn cds. I've downloaded it before multiple times to see if that message would go away when I started it up, but it didn't. That was fine for a while because I never burn cds but today I wanted to and it wouldn't work. It would say Disc Recording not found. So, I thought I should upgrade to the new itunes 8.1 but I was afraid to because it might screw up the disc drive again. And of course, it did. I even downloaded the 64 bit version. So I guess my question is, how can I install the 64 bit version without that error message and be able to burn cds?

  • Itunes and Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit

I just purchased a HP TouchSmart with Vista Home Premium 64bit system.I have itunes loaded but after about 10 min. after i connect my ipod to it it locks up the computer completely. I have tried itunes on 2 identical computers and got the same results.
I also did a restore on the ipod and it still does the same thing. Any help will be appreciated.bobwire

Just an update, though it's more of a (non) update.
I'm not sure how but I managed to get it working.
After doing the things mentioned above, I tried a system restore but that didn't work and seemed to throw more error messages my way. Then I ran AppleSoftewareUpdater.exe and it gave me red X errors with no details, I assumed the install failed completely.
Following this, I manually downloaded and tried to install the latest version again but it said iTunes was already installed. At this point I'm far past annoyed.
So, I click on iTunes and now everything works.
I wish I knew what actually fixed the problem so others could benefit if they're experiencing the same thing....hence why I say, (non)-update.
    Anyways,
    Take care Everyone

  • ITunes and Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Is there an iTunes version that is compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate? If so, can you please let me know?

I have iTunes 7.3.2.6 running on Ultimate Vista 64. I initially had problems with it recognizing my DVD-RW but eventually found a solution in this group related to the GEAR drivers.
The only problem that remains is not recognizing the current user as administrator unless you "launch as administrator." But this has not affected performance.
BTW, when application developers list "32-bit Vista" under system requirements, this does not mean that 64-bit Vista versions can't run it, it only means that it's not a 64-bit app. Vista 64 is designed to run 32-bit apps.

  • Trouble with iTunes and Windows Vista

    Hello,
I have a new Win Vista system and need to move over all my old music to existing IPOD. I installed the latest version of itunes, and the Windoes patch (can't recall the number). I been able to successfully install itunes and port over my music. However when I attach the iPod and sync it I get the following errors: Attempting to copy to disk "name of iPod" failed. an unknown error occured (-124), and then "The iPod "name of Ipod" can't be synced. The required file cant be found, and "the iPod "name of iPod" can't be synched. The required folder can't be found.
The odd thing is that it appeard as if it was synching up songs accorning to the status bar across the top.
    Any help please....
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi,
got it fixed! My Son had both files on his Win7 iTunes installation. Never mind he had no issues whith ths iTunes and iPhone Sync. So I checked my other Win XP PC, where I don't have this problem syncing my ipad, and surprise. Both files do NOT show up on this PC. So I renamed the iTunesPhotoProcessor.exe I found under c:\program file\iTunes and synced again my iPhone and it went through without any error. So the problem might be and unremoved iTunesPhotoProcessor.exe or the missing iTunesPhotoProcessor.dll under the iTunes install root folder and this even if I had checked that the folder was completely removed during iTunes unistall.
Please try yourselve and just rename the iTunesPhotoProcessor.exe to iTunesPhotoProcessor.exe_ under c:\program file\iTunes or get a copy of the missing iTunesPhotoProcessor.dll and cp to c:\program file\iTunes.
