ITunes and Windows XP 64 bit edition

I have iTunes v 6.0.4.2 running on my machine. I tried to install the latest version and am told it won't install on the 64 bit edition of XP. Why and what do I need to do to make it work?
Gentech   Windows XP Pro   OS is the 64 bit Windows XP

Sorry for lashing out, I know typed messages can easily be mis-interpreted. It seemed to me as though the response was intended to be like, "Hey stupid ...". And I get rather frustrated when people do that.
I have the PowerMac Dual Processor G5 1000mhz FSB. I know that the iPod and iTunes are linked as software and hardware, but I was not aware that I could install the iTunes application from the website to my iPod. Do we know if it is planned for iTunes to work with the XP 64-bit platform? If not, is there anyway I can assist with the project to make it happen... I am part of the Apple Developer Connection.

  • ITunes on Windows XP 64 bit Edition?

Does anyone have experience finding a version of iTunes for Windows XP 64 bit? I can only find it for Vista and Woindows 7 64 bit.

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
Answering quickly, though, iTunes is not and never has been supported on Windows XP 64 (and almost certainly never will be). Some people have had various degrees of success "forcing" the Vista version of iTunes onto XP 64. Search the iTunes for windows forum for "X 64" and you should threads discussing the workarounds and problems that arise.
    Regards.

  • ITunes and Windows 7 64 bit doesn't work together?

Running Windows 7 64 bit, iTunes is reporting it is latest and greatest, as is iPod touch. When I tried to move some songs I purchased today to my iPod via iTunes, my system crashed. Tried a few times and it kept crashing. It would transfer 1 maybe 2 songs then crash. I've not installed anything new, nor have I had this problem in the past and the crashes only occur when transferring music. Anyway, after the last crash I was checking my version on iPod touch and noticed it says I have only 2 gig left on space. Yet when I go to my Music I only have 3 songs. In addition, when I plug my ipod into my computer, iTunes sees all my old music from the iPod (listed under devices) AND it will play those songs. From my iPod those songs do not seem to exist but are still taking up space. I am in the process of restoring my iPod but I am curious if anybody has had the same issue, if so what was your resolution... as well as any suggestions. After restoring my iPod I had more issues. I installed iTunes to my XP machine, authorized it and hooked up my iPod and everything is syncing fine now. Seems to be just a problem with my Windows 7 machine. Any word as to when this is going to be fixed? My XP machine is not my preferred machine to keep my music on as it is my work PC.

I'm having a similar problem - my computer tells me that "one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it". I'm also using Windows 7 64bit.

  • Conflicts between Itunes and Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

I am looking to purchase a new pc with Windows Vista. What are some possible problems I could have with Itunes?

I have a new Windows Vista Home premium laptop and am NOT able to use the latest version of iTunes. Hopefully by the time you get your new computer, Apple will have taken the time to fix the garbage program that they are passing off as the latest version of iTunes.

  • ITunes and Windows 7 64 Bit

Each time I start iTunes, I get the following message "iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall iTunes."
I have re-installed iTunes twice and I still get this message - it is driving me bonkers!

... One possibility crystalising in my head. I haven't actually seen it happen before (that I knew about), but given that there was a GEAR entry in your Add/Remove programs, it seems plausible.
Can you check something for me? Do you still have that standalone GEAR installer on hand? If so, does it still give you that "later version is already installed" message?
(Here's what I'm wondering ... the GEAR driver associated with iTunes is normally installed via a DifX mechanism. That normally doesn't put a GEAR entry in Add/Remove programs or Uninstall a program. So that entry in Uninstall a program suggests that a version of the drivers has been installed via a Windows Installer mechanism. In that case, there's a .msi of some description for the GEAR drivers, and one symptom of a damaged .msi is "later version" error messages.)

I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.

Probably should've searched around a bit more. Just saw a similar forum post to my own in which redownloading and burning solved another user's similar issue. As of now I've redownloaded the 64-bit ISO, burned it, and so far so good (at 72% extracting files). I will repost here if it was a success in hopes that other users with a similar issue find this and benefit from it. Hope I didn't just waste anyone's time with a question that had already been answered (haha)

iTunes 11.0.1.12 and Windows 7 (32 bit, latest version). iTunes crashes frequently (Windows message : "iTunes has stopped working and will be closed"). I may be trying to search for an App. or book (or anything else), trying to access iTunes store, checking for updates to Apps., inputting my password, etc. etc. I have uninstalled iTunes several times, reinstalled several times, but the error persists. I tried the iTunes 10 suggested fix of running in safe mode, but iTunes again crashed when I was trying to create a new ID.
Any real help would be gratefully received. Thank you.

  • Remotely control the ITunes on Windows 7 64 bit PC with the new IPad

With the latest version of ITunes for both Win7 and the new IPad, I'm only able to use the new IPad to remotely control the ITunes on Windows 7 64 bit PC through wired connection  ( ethernet cable ) to the wireless router. As soon as I connect my PC through wireless connection, the new IPad can not find my libraries.
Is this a known issue or am I missing some settings?

  • HT5318 cannot open itunes on windows 7 64 bit

I am no longer able to open iTunes on windows 7 64 bit.  Have tried "repair" option and remove and redownload.

I am trying to understand the exact sequence of events here:
Firstly the iTunes installer includes Quicktime and you should not have to install it separately.
You downloaded the 32 bit iTunes installer: iTunesSetup.exe.
Normally the correct version should be downloaded automatically so that shouldn't have happened.
When you tried to run it, did it warn you that you had the wrong version and stop without installing anything?
    Then you downloaded iTunes64Setup.exe
What happened when you tried to run that, did you get any error messages? If so give the full text.
What iTunes related programs do you actually have installed, if any?
Check in Programs on the Control Panel.
The following link on uninstalling iTunes lists the programs you need to look for.
