Itunes (any verison) 1603 msi install error

I'm getting pretty desperate, I hope someone here can help.
I upgraded from 8.0.1 to 8.0.2 and the itunes installer froze at the very end. Itunes runs fine except it wouldn't sync with my ipod touch G1 so i uninstalled it. Now it rolls back when copying new files and returns a msi 1603 error in the log.
I extracted the setup file from apple.com (64-bit) and tried manually installing components. It seems to me that the problem is with the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi that itunes calls during setup, that specific msi rolls back when installing by itself.
I have reinstalled quicktime, apple update, Bonjour64, and mobile me with no no results. I have also tried the windows msi cleaner but since itunes technically isn't installed it doesn't even show up on the list.
I know im not the only one with this problem..in fact 2 of my friends are in the same boat with vista 64-bit, sounds like someone isn't making quality software drops....
Help

problem solved. Turns out its a registry permission error. Make a new user on your PC with admin rights. Download the 64-bit exe from apple on your new user account and install. Log back in as your orig account and you're all set, don't forget to delete the new account.

  • Quicktime.msi installing errors

Trying to update my Itunes. Itunes won't let me sync iphone with itunes. Installing updates results in Quicktime.msi error- can't find thefile location. Neither can I. I ran a search and NOTHING. I looked everywhere I know to look for answers and NOTHING. I'm just about ready to throw away the iphone and Sh**can Itunes......

I've been having the same problem. I tried to install QuickTime with ITunes and continually got a message stating “the older version of QuickTime cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.”
I don’t have the option to delete QuickTime from the Control Panel like I do with most other programs. So, I deleted every QuickTime reference on my ‘C’ drive; however, could not do anything except extract a file within the Adobe program folders.
Still can’t download iTunes as the messages above still appears. If I try to install QuickTime 7.2 separately I get an error message that says the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. The file C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\_134\ is not a valid installation package for the product QuickTime. Try to find the installation package "QuickTime.msi" in a folder from which you can Install QuickTime.
Please help. I just purchased another iPod recently and can’t download any iTunes.

  • Itunes 10.5.3 update install errors on Windows

So if your getting errors when trying to update your Itunes software (say for instance to be able to use your new iPood Touch, required upgrade) and getting errors such as "A network error occurrred while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi", then there is hope!!
Also if you get the error "Errors occurred while installing the udpates.  If the problem persists, choose Tools>Download Only and try installing manually." there is hope.
First if trying to run an update, you'll probably get the second message first.  Once you use the dialog at the top of the updater screen "Tools>Download only>" etc, and run the manually downloaded version of the update, then you might get the first error message listed above.
If this is the case then cruise over to this link and complete this method as it worked great for me at least.  I was getting slightly different messages than the orginal poster but it still worked for me.  Good luck-
Tks to B Noir and JereJohnson for the link and solution-

Tks for the suggestion mitch, however my issue was solved with the method in my post.
For the record I tried disabling my antivirus orginally to solve the update issue to no avail. It didn't work for me since it wasn't the underlying issue.
Once I fixed the installer package problem, I had no problems running the reinstall/update with my antivirus software on and running.

  • ITunes 7.7 Won't Install/Error message

Every time I attempt to upgrade I get this error message after the download finishes:
"Errors occurred when installing the updates. If there problem persists update manually"
So is there a way to fix this or how do I upgrade manually?

some folks have been having some success with pgfpdwife's technique in the following post:
pgfpdwife: Re: Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classic\Quicktime.Quicktime\
note carefully that the technique involves a registry edit. be sure to make a backup of any keys you edit. if you're unfamiliar with your registry or registry editing, head to your XP help and support, do a search on registry, and read through the articles that come up.
if you would prefer not to try a registry edit, let's instead try getting an installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look:
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing (if you are seeing one)

  • Itunes won't launch after installing - error

I've tried intalling and reinstalling different versions iTunes, including 7.6.2 up to the latest version. They all seem to install fine, but when I try and launch iTunes I get the following error message:
'The folder 'iTunes' cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the 'My Music' folder.'
I'm running Windows XP, with Service Pack 3 installed. Any advice from anyone?
    Thanks

    Hello
By any chance when you go to My Documents - My Music. Does the My Music folder
    1. Exist?
    2. Does it have a music note on it?
If it does so far everything looks good.
If you followed the previous articles posted earlier. I would like to recommend one last article. Which will assist with a full clean up of Apple Software and folders.
Hopefully you will only need to use this article as a last resort. Incase other options posted are not leading anywhere.

  • ITunes 6 fails on QT Install - error: -3

I guess the above says it all. iTunes appears to install fine until Quicktime fails right at the end with Error: -3.
I've tried uninstalling iTunes 5.n first and this hasn't worked either. I've been faithfully upgrading on prompt ever since iTunes 4 and this is the first failure I've had.

    hi Mark!
Tonight, when I have time, I will attempt uninstall of Quicktime from the guest account and try again from mine.
interesting. okay, if you run into an 0x80040707 on the uninstall from the guest account, that's probably a sign that the install was originally in the standard account.
here's another good resource for a QT 1402:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93865
and if the thing persists, let's try the Adam technique:

    keep us posted.

  • Error-1603 when installing Itunes on PC

    Hi
I just got a Ipod Nano, and installing Ipod updater went fine, but in the middle of Itunes installing it stop and an error came up.
    hkeylocalmachine\software\classes\.cdda\openWithProgids
    Error 1603
    and installment stoped.
    any help would be nice
    thx

    hi Sofie!
    hkeylocalmachine\software\classes\.cdda\openWithProgids
okay, even though you didn't get a 1402 or a 1406 with that message, i think you should start with this document:
Error 1406 or 1402 appears when you install iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
i've noticed that for some folks with european localisations of Windows, they don't get the error message numbers with those messages referencing registry keys. but problems with those keys generally are 1402s or 1406s on other localisations of Windows.
(generally we only attack the 1603 directly if folks get it as a standalone error. if it shows up at the end of a chain of error messages like this, we should try to deal to the first error in the chain. if we can fix that, the 1603 should go away of its own accord.)

Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Trying to install the new itunes update and it keeps saying error could not install itunes. Currently I am running windows 7. Any advise to fix this problem.

Trying to install the new itunes update and it keeps saying error could not install itunes. Currently I am running windows 7. Any advise to fix this problem. This is doing this when installing itunes/quicktime, safari 5, mobileme control panel, and the software update itself. The itunes version is 10.3.1

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component won't install normally.

If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
Or roll back to the previous build:
