ITunes appears "disabled" after installing iLife

I've tried to find an answer to my problem by reading the other discussion questions, but I haven't seen anything quite like it....
Background: I had trouble installing iLife 04. (Yes, I know it's an old version, but I had put it off because everytime I try to install something new it gets screwed up!) It kept telling me that something was "in use" and couldn't be installed. I was advised to open activity monitor / highlight "iTunes Helper" under "Process name" and click "Quit process". Well, it worked, but my iTunes icon in the dock ended up with a question mark on it, and I couldn't open it. In playing around with the icon it "poofed" out of sight. I can find "iTunes" and my libraries in "Users" on the hard drive, but I can't open iTunes. Some of the items in the libraries appear with music icons in front of them (the iTune icon) and some have a document icon in front of them. Trying to open things gives me an "unexpected error code 10660". I realized after I installed iLife 04 that I was probably installing a LOWER version of iTunes (I already had upgraded to 6. something) so I ran my software updates and there were updates for iDVD, iMovie, and iPhoto (as I expected there would be) but none for iTunes. I went online and downloaded the latest iTunes thinking that that might solve the problem, but when I tried to install that, it kept telling me that I couldn't because I already had a higher version installed. It kept showing iTunes as "disabled". I'm afraid to try anything else for fear that I may screw it up even more!

Remove the 'iTunesX.pkg' file from Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts.
This file tells the Installer that iTunes 6 already is installed.
Removing it should fix the installation problem.
Hope this helps.

  • ITunes corrupted after installing iLife 08

I can no longer launch iTunes following install of iLife 08. Error message says "copy of iTunes corrupt or not installed properly" "Re-install iTunes".
Is teh solution as simple as downloading iTunes 8 from the Apple site? How might this affect my existing iTunes library and authorization?

Same here. I recently had a memory module go bad and a bunch of stuff got corrupted, so I had to wipe the disk, install new memory, and reinstall everything starting with OS X. Since all of my old iLife apps were gone (They were not on the disks I got with the Mini), I had to get iLife '08.
Before I installed iLife '08 I recovered my iTunes library from my 30 GB video iPod using TinkerTool, and it all worked fine. After installing iLife '08, I got the "iTunes is corrupted or not installed correctly" error message (Oh NOES!!!11!!).
All you have to do to fix this is, 1) Download iTunes 8.0.1 from Apple, and, 2) click on UPGRADE. Your iTunes library will still be there (Mine was, anyway).
    Cheers,
    George

After install iLife '11 , I need to edit some pages of an existing website (stored on my HD)

    Try the following:
1 - Go to your user account home folder, and open the library folder within it.
Look for the folder named "Calendars" and inside you might find a bunch of different folders with weird names. If they are there that means your calendars might not be lost.
2 - Look for the file "Calendar Cache". That file might be corrupted. Trash it. You may want to save a copy of it elsewhere. Once trashed, re-open ical. This should force it to rebuild its library based on those folders with weird names you saw. Your calendars should be back. Good luck

  • I am unable to open Photo on my MacBook Pro after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get says "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3)  after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update.

  • External monitor no longer works after installing iLife '09

Before, the external monitor (Apple Cinema HD display) connected via DVI to Mini-DVI adapter was working fine. However, after installing iLife '09 and restarting, the iMac will no longer detect the external display attached to it. I even tried installing a different (but same model) display but it still will not detect.

I'm not sure how installing an application would cause that to happen. Have you shut down (powered off) the iMac completely, and then restarted, since this problem occurred?
Some display settings are stored in PRAM, so if you have not already, try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can try disconnecting the iMac from power and reconnecting it, using the reset SMC (power management) procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
When you reconnect it, initially connect the iMac to a wall outlet, by itself. Leave all peripherals disconnected, except for your USB keyboard/mouse. Make sure it is working properly, then connect only the external display.
If it still does not work, as a test, start up with your Mac OS X installation disc. You are not installing anything, but note if the second display is displaying the background image or not when you are booted from a different system.

Most probably, you have a 'private'-folder = part of an AVCHD-structure on your root-level of that drive.
Put it back into its folder (or any folder) - done.
    Don't rip AVCHD-folders apart!

  • Computer won't start up after installing iLife '09

My MacBook Pro is now stuck in a bricked mode after installing iLife '09.
    Install:
    1. The install went perfectly unlike some of the posts I have read.
    2. The installer asked me to register and I chose "later".
    3. The installer asked to restart to complete the process and I accepted.
    4. Then it restarted my machine and the progress spinner just sits there for five minutes...then the computer just shuts off cold.
    Fix Attempts:
    1. Tried restarting manually many times, but it keeps shutting itself off after five minutes of spinning.
    2. Tried zapping my P-Ram by restarting and holding down commandoption+pr a few times, but that didn't help.
    3. Restarted while holding down option to boot Windows XP. Windows booted successfully and then I restarted back in Mac mode, but that didn't help.
    4. I ejected the iLife '09 disc and unplugged the power chord and USB iPhone charger, just in case that has anything to do with the ghost in the machine, but that didn't help either.
I'm left trying to decide what to do. Going to the Genius bar does not appeal to me for various reasons.
Any one else out there experience this problem and get things running again??

Since I don't have the original install discs that came with my computer, I tried these things:
    1. Tried booting in Safe Mode by holding down the shift key at start up, but does not help.
    2. Booted in Single-User Mode by holding down command+s at start up. Then I get the fsck diagnostic by typing in "/sbin/fsck -fy".
Did that three times and get the same response:
    /dev/rdisk0s2
    Root file system
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow.
    Checking Catalog file.
    disk0s2: I/O error.
    Invalid key length
    (4, 25236)
    Volume check failed.
/dev/rdisk0s2 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
    :/ root#
Then I ran the command "df -hl" to see what the drive space looks like. Looks good enough:
    Filesystem root_device
    Size 80Gi
    Used 68Gi
    Avail 12Gi
    Capacity 86%
    Mounted on /
    Any ideas if this helps??

  • After installing iLife Support 9.0.4 - network login becomes locked

I'm experiencing a strange issue after installing iLife Support 9.0.4
I am on a corporate network using Active Directory. I use Connect to Server every day to access all my files for work.
    Here is my scenario:
    1. Startup OR Restart my MacBook
    2. Login to my user account
    3. Finder -> Connect to Server (i.e. smb://server/location/etc/)
    4. My network credentials are saved in my keychain, so it tries to connect
    5. My network account becomes locked.
After #5 I have to call our Help Desk to unlock my network account.
Once my account is unlocked, everything works fine - I can use Connect to Server, Entourage email, etc.
Unfortunately I am unable to use Time Machine due to our company policies
    Any insight would be appreciated.

I just dragged all of the 1 January 2001 Prefs out of my folder and restarted and it looks like its working, including the keychain. I'll keep monitoring this...

  • Re: Satellite P - CD/DVD drive has been disabled after installing itunes 8

*Help*! After installing itunes 8 my CD/DVD/RW has been disabled.
This has happened before and I have restored it by deleting the upper and lower filters in the Vista registry but then itunes tells me that "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing." and I am unable to burn anything from itunes.
Does anyone out there know how to restore the CD/DVD/RW drive and retain the full use of itunes please?

Have you tried to reinstall iTunes?
Reinstall the old iTunes, reboot the computer and clean by using CCleaner. Then you can install the newest version of iTunes.
If it doesnt work try to remove the upper- and lower filters again. Maybe you should do this after you have reinstalled iTunes.

  • Problem with Itunes and NAS after installing latest version of Itunes

After installing the latest version of Itunes on my new PC (Windows 7 Ultimate) I have problems seeing the music off the Itunes server on my NAS.
I see the name of the NAS under tab SHARED (GEDEELD in dutch), but when I click on it,  Itunes is making connection with the NAS but I see the music for less then a second.
Then the display goes back to the tab LIBRARY.
I've searched the web for this problem, checked on my firewall,... nothing to find.  On another windows 7 PC, it is still working fine but this is an older version of Itunes.
So what can be the problem ?

No, I had not uninstalled it, I didn't realize I had ever installed it.  I don't use it at all, never have.  I uninstalled the MobileMe Control Panel then restarted my computer for good measure, and that appears to have resolved the issue!  Thanks very much for your help!

  • Ipod disappears from itunes source list after installing update 1.0.2

i plugged in nano to install more music. itunes asked if i wanted to install update 1.0.2 on my ipod, i clicked ok, and it installed. But the ipod never restarted or reappeared in source list or windows device manager (except briefly in devices when connected screen on ipod appears - but clicking stop just produced an error message that there was nothing to stop). it just cycled on ipod screen through apple logo, main screen and connected. ipod works fine otherwise. tried resetting ipod, restarting pc, different usb (although the original works fine when recharging son's mp3), reinstalling itunes - all no go. can't restore ipod as not registering on itunes or pc. any ideas before i grapple with apple phone support?

    All,
I've seen this one more times than I care to. At first, I thought I had a bogus unit. After replacing the first one, hooked up with a knowledgeable in-store associate who helped me part of the way.
Leodis' assessment of the update is correct. Apple needs to resolve the download portion of this update. It appears that the music, videos, and other content are downloaded, but the unit is left in an invalid state, causing it to cycle endlessly with the startup screen (Apple logo).
In the short term, the best advice is to NOT download the update.
If you are stuck with a unit still in this undesirable state, relax. There is hope.
First you need to disconnect your unit, and reset it. First slide the lock button back and forth (from lock to unlocked). Next press Menu and select (middle button) at same time, waiting for Apple logo to reappear (or disappear). Next press the Pause/Play button along with select button. This will take your unit to "disk mode". At this time, the screen should show a check mark and a message indicating it is ok to disconnect.
Before you reconnect the unit, it might be best to remove the iTunes software from your machine (using Add/Remove programs). I had to do this in order to get the software back to an "original" state. Basically, getting back to a point where you will be asked/prompted for updating the iPod software (of course, you will refuse this). Don't worry about your music, videos, etc. All of that library information should still be there in the original location (not the iTunes library location). You could also export the library, then re-import it later.
Now you can re-connect your unit up with your machine. Wait until it is recognized by your system.
Next go into "My computer" folder, you should see the unit there. You will want to right click the icon, and chose "format". This will re-format the internal flash hard-drive. Don't worry. It will not do anything to the ROM containing the bootstrapping software. Basically, you can't hose up this product, short of taking a hammer to it (which maybe by this point you might have contemplated that! )
After the re-format, you want to install iTunes again. Go thru the same motions as before. Bu this time, it will pop up a panel indicating that the unit is in themiddle of a restoration. That's ok. Click ok. Then, once the unit is recognized by iTunes (appears in left panel), select the unit, and go to Summary tab. On that page, you want to click on "Restore" button to restore back to factory settings.
During this restore, at some point, you will be prompted for that iPod update. Refuse it!! Don't do it. That's where we all got hosed.
After the restore is complete, your unit will be functional again.
At this point, go on your merry way and reload your media content back into the local library and then sync to your unit. This is also a good point to import your saved library info, if you exported it.
    Enjoy the nano!!!
Sorry this is a long post. Unfortunately, it took a few days to figure this out. But at least it is possible to avoid the issue. I've verified these steps on both WinXP (home edition) and WinXP Pro.

Restore that backup you take regularly... Ah, OK.
    *Empty library after upgrade/crash*
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the *Previous iTunes Libraries* folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename *iTunes Library* as *iTunes Library (Empty)* and then rename the restored file as *iTunes Library*. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See Music Folder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for clean-up tools , if required.
