Itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (13010)

Using iTunes 8.
Get this error when i try to open iTunes...itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (13010)
It just shows that it tries to run in the Processes tab in the Task Manager. I get the error then the pocesses stops.
I've followed all the instructions in the attached link but with no luck:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
I created a new user account and iTunes opens fine...
Can anyone help.??

I too am having the same problem. I have followed the above advice - I followed this advice http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421 to no avail. For what it's worth, It appears to be isolated to my user account. I also tried uninstalling and deleting all apple software including the itunes folder in my music folder plus deleting the registry keys before reinstalling. I also tried to move th Genius files onto my desktop as per the above suggestions. Any advice?

  • The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (1301

I launched iTunes 9.0.1 today and got this error:
"The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (13014)"
An archived tip on the iTunes for Windows forum that suggested deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb. That didn't work, I also had to delete iTunes Library Extras.itdb. (For the record I renamed them instead of deleting, but the original post suggested deleting).
Anyway, I thought I'd pass that on in case anyone else experiences this problem.

I had the same error and I keep my iTune folder on an external drive due to size. I tried to create a sub-folder to temporarirly hold the itdb file(s) and give it a try. The system wouldn't let me create the folder, at which point I remembered I had left my mac on but unplugged to find the battery drained in the morning. Upon plugging it in, it came back but then told me I hadn't exjected my external disk. So, I figured there might be a correlation. I tried to eject the disk and it wouldn't let me though no programs were running. So, I went ahead an chose to "Force" the eject via the option it presented me. On the un/re-plugging the disk, I tried to created a subfolder and it worked. Before moving any files to it, I tried starting iTunes again and voila, it worked. So, I suspect the comment above about files being locked is what bit me. Hope this helps...

I can't open my itunes application, keep getting message - the itunes application could not be opened, an unexpected error occurred (13010) Please help

Try removing the Genius database.  In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

  • I am getting the following error message - the itunes application could not be opened - an unknown error occurred (-50). Help!? It won't even open up.

I reinstalled iTunes because it stopped opening up and now I'm getting this error message when it refuses to to open. Help?

If you right-click iTunes and Show in Finder, is it located in the Applications folder?
Try trashing the iTunes plist files from ~/Library/Preferences/ and relaunch iTunes (all of the fies that have com.apple.iTunes in the name).
If that doesn't work, try following Apple's document -> Removing iTunes for Mac OS X.
    WTH.

  • ITunes application could not be opened. error 13008

I've got a 500GB USB3 drive that has an iTunes library on it and that's all it has on it.
I've attached the drive to a Negear R6300 router that has a USB port for attaching a network drive.
ReadyShare sees it and I can mount it as a Volume that shows up in the finder.
I can open the library directory in the finder and play songs manually..
But when I option-launch iTunes, and am asked to locate the library I wish to open, I navigate to the shared volume and select the directory containing the library. I then get the following error and when I click OK, iTunes quits.
"The iTunes application could not be opened, An unknown error occurred (13008)
    I'm lost at this point.

I finally found a solution for this.
The external drive was formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
I reformatted the drive as FAT32 and now I am able to access my iTunes library without any isseus from the Netgear R63000 ReadyShare volume.
    Yay!

  • Itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

I'm on Windows 7 - using itunes daily without problems and suddenly itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)"  The only thing I can think is I think there was a download in progress when I shut down the computer.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalled, but I get the same thing. I tried clearing the itunes folder and reinstalling, same thing. help!

Doublechecking. When you did the complete uninstall, were you using the following document as a guide?
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
(If damaged program files are involved here, a standard install might not remove them, and a reinstall might not then replace them. So the Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled section is an important step.)

  • The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)

Today, I downloaded the latest version of Itunes.
When it finished installing it came up with the following error:
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)". I have uninstalled iTunes, and all related Apple software and re-installed iTunes several times and still I get the same error.
I contacted Apple support and was sent two emails. One detailing what needed to be uninstalled and then a web site to go to where I could download and install Microsoft's latest .NET Framework, which apparently was the root cause of the problem.
I did as instructed:Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    1.iTunes
    2.QuickTime
    3.Apple Software Update
    4.Apple Mobile Device Support
    5.Bonjour
6.Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later).
Restarted the PC and then downloaded the latest version of Microsoft's .NET Framework - version 4.
Restarted the PC again and received a strange message from some Apple application I have never heard of stating "CoreFoundation.dll file is missing".
I GOOGLEd the message and found out I also needed to unistall another Apple application called MobileMe. So, I did this and restarted the PC again!
I then downloaded the latest version of iTunes, again.
Now I'm getting "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50).
From checking through GOOGLE, I believe it's something to do with user accounts and iTunes not being able to find the music folder???? But the answers I found all relate to Windows 64 pit PC's.
I am running Windows 7, 32 bit on a Sony Vaio laptop.
I cannot get support from Apple as I don't own a MAC. But I do own an iPhone but it's out of warranty.
    HELP !!!!
    Can anybody please help me?
    Thx

If you go to the web page "http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923" and follow the "Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled" it does the trick. There are few other folders and files that alos need to be deleted!
    iTunes is now working.

  • ITunes application could not be opened.  An unknown error occurred (0x666D7

Been using iTunes 6 and 6.5 for months and months on my computer. Upgraded to 7.0. Installs just fine. No errors, no issues.
At the end, it asks if it can launch iTunes 7.0 and I click okay. I get this:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (0x666D743F).
Apple, HELP!!!! I can't use iTunes at all!!!! I'd be willing to reinstall 6 or 6.5 if I could find it somewhere.
    Can someone please help?

This happened to me as well. I uninstalled iTunes 7 and tried again: nothing. I uninstalled iTunes 7 and Quicktime and tried again: nothing. I uninstalled everything and ran a third-party program called CCleaner to find registry entries that were not removed by the uninstallation and then reinstalled: nothing. Did all that and add a reboot after CCleaner before reinstalling: nothing. Downgraded back to iTunes 6.0.5 and it worked fine. Re-upgraded to iTunes 7, failure.
For those who may need it, you can download iTunes 6.0.5 from apple.com here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html

  • ITunes application could not be opened.  An unknown error occurred (13014)

Ysterday I bought a brand spanking new Acer Aspire 7551 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and installed the latest version of iTunes (64 bit) on it.
I started iTunes with great anticipation because I so looked forward to syncing my iPhone with my Very Own Laptop.
Alas, iTunes did not start. Instead I received a message "the itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13014)." Much Googling and reinstalling later the problem remains.
I have already deleted the genius files and rebooted several times. All to no avail. If anyone can propose a solution, I would be most grateful. Needless to say, I'd be happy to post any further info that can help to solve this problem.

Okay fixed my own problem. I don't know how or why, but it appears that I lost permissions for my iTunes folder in documents and settings. It took some messing with file permissions to get access to delete it, but I finally got it.
Once it was gone, no more issue. iTunes launched, created a new iTunes folder, and good as new.

  • The itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-42023)

I have just tried to open iTunes and keep getting the message "the itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-42023)".  I've tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes, still with the same error. I've tried restoring iTunes from Time Machine, still with the same error.  The error message appears to refer to an error downloading a purchase but I haven't made a purchase.
Every fix seems to start with "step 1:- open iTunes" but I can't do that as I just get the error message.
I'm running OSX 10.6.8 on a core duo iMac, was using iTunes 11.0.2.  All software up to date accoring to software updater.  I haven't made any software updates since the last successful access of iTues and getting this error.

Here's an article that lists error -42023 twice and therefore may be helpful:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297
I believe these are the appropriate actions (from the above article):
Delete your iTunes Downloads folder, located in:
    Mac OS X:
  ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads
Note: "iTunes Media" may appear as "iTunes Music. Also, the tilde (~) refers to your Home directory.
After locating your iTunes Downloads folder:
    Quit iTunes.
Delete the Downloads folder on your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.

    I feel for you -
When I installed the 8.0.1 patch on my iMac, I noticed that iTunes quit working correctly after importing some new tracks. It would not quit. I had to force quit but then it would not open correctly the next time and it would not quit. From that point on, my computer went down hill. When I installed the latest security patch and executed a reboot, the system would not come up. I used my 10.5 DVD and repaired permissions, etc. Nothing worked. I booted off my backup drive and everything works fine.
Even on my backup drive iTunes will not come up. I don't get an error but the Dock icon says "Application Not Responding". I renamed the iTunes folder and it created a new one on initial startup but it just hangs. I deleted iTunes, rebooted, re-installed iTunes and have the same thing.
Tonight I experienced the same issue with iTunes not quitting on my MacBook Pro !

    Hi
I opened Itunes and got this error message exactly as it appears here. "The Itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occured (130104)"
Could someone help me get my itunes back to normal.
Its probably a simple problem, but I haven't done anything (that i know of) that could have caused this. I have just been using my Macbook as i normally use it.
It would be interesting to find out why this happened as well.
    Thanks in advance!
