Itunes application could not open. Required iTunes component not installed
After 3 weeks of frustration, I would greatly appreciate any help anyone may be able to offer.
I have been attempting to sync my new iphone to itunes. Initially, I received the message *"This iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed"* when itunes started.
I spent a week trying to fix this error, following suggestions to completely remove all apple software and reinstall, login as a different user, and disable startup programs including antivirus/firewalls (see *http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6326342*). After a week of frustration, I decided to wait for itunes 8, hoping it may resolve my issue.
I installed itunes 8, and now itunes will not boot, with the message *"The itunes application could not open. A required itunes component is not installed"*. I followed the instructions in this post: *http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8056494*, without success.
I rang the Apple tech support line, and the tech support person was not able to fix my issue. I was told that they did not know what was wrong, and that I should reinstall Vista, or contact Microsoft. I am very reluctant to do so, as I do not wish to risk losing my otherwise stable system, not to mention hours and hours of installation time.
I have never had the experience of having such a high value product (iphone) not working, and being told it was essentialy 'my problem'. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I have not been able to sync my iphone with my PC for 3 weeks now, and I am becoming very frustrated. I feel quite abandoned by Apple. I love my iphone, but there is no question that this experience will make me think twice about an Apple product in future.
Thanks in advance,
Bartek.

Solution: It appears that Quicktime and iTunes versions got out of sync.
1) Uninstall Quicktime.
2) Download and install an older version of Quicktime (7.5.5 to be exact)
FIXED! Hope this helps the next person

I am using Windows Vista. My itunes launched fine until now. Now I get an error - "The Itunes application could not be opened. The required folder cannot be found". I have no idea what file it is looking for. Has anyone seen this error?
I have also tried to uninstall the package and I get the error Could not access network location %APPDATA%\. And it won't uninstall. I don't know why it's complaining in both cases.
Itunes was working 3 weeks ago with no problem.

ITunes application could not be opened. required folder cannont be found
Hello,
I'm getting an error message that says "*The iTunes application could not be opened. The required folder cannot be found*".
I running the latest version of iTunes on a Windows Vista PC. I have three user profiles on this PC. iTunes works perfectly on two of the profiles, but on one profile (the admin profile) I get the above error message. Until recently, iTunes was working properly on all three profiles. I can't say what has changed recently, this is my daughters PC. Any guidance would be of great help. Thank you,
ChrisHi and thank you for your response. I did upgrade iTunes to the latest version hoping that would solve the issue, but it did not. When I open iTunes in the Admin profile and I get the error message my only option is to click "OK" which then closes the application (iTunes). When I log into the other profiles on the computer, all the music plays just fine and iTunes seems to be working fine.

The iTunes application could not be opened. [-42404]
When I try to open iTunes I get the following error
The iTunes application could not be opened. A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall QuickTime. [-42404]
I have tried repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling both iTunes & QuickTime. But, nothing has worked so far.
Any ideas?I just started having this problem while trying to get my wife's iPad set up with our MacBook Pro. The difficult part is that it's preventing both iTunes on the MacBook and iTunes on the iPad from being authorized on the same store account. I have tried re-installing iTunes 9.1 several times, but unlike what I've heard from others, this has not resolved the problem.

I am trying to open my iTunes on a Windows XP laptop and get the error message 42404 "iTunes application could not be opened. Please repair or reinstall QuickTime". I did that and it did not help. Any ideas?
Let's see if a more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure gets us past that, nancy. See the following troubleshooting document:

I'm on Windows 7 - using itunes daily without problems and suddenly itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)" The only thing I can think is I think there was a download in progress when I shut down the computer.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalled, but I get the same thing. I tried clearing the itunes folder and reinstalling, same thing. help!Doublechecking. When you did the complete uninstall, were you using the following document as a guide?
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
(If damaged program files are involved here, a standard install might not remove them, and a reinstall might not then replace them. So the Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled section is an important step.) -
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)
Today, I downloaded the latest version of Itunes.
When it finished installing it came up with the following error:
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)". I have uninstalled iTunes, and all related Apple software and re-installed iTunes several times and still I get the same error.
I contacted Apple support and was sent two emails. One detailing what needed to be uninstalled and then a web site to go to where I could download and install Microsoft's latest .NET Framework, which apparently was the root cause of the problem.
I did as instructed:Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
1.iTunes
2.QuickTime
3.Apple Software Update
4.Apple Mobile Device Support
5.Bonjour
6.Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later).
Restarted the PC and then downloaded the latest version of Microsoft's .NET Framework - version 4.
Restarted the PC again and received a strange message from some Apple application I have never heard of stating "CoreFoundation.dll file is missing".
I GOOGLEd the message and found out I also needed to unistall another Apple application called MobileMe. So, I did this and restarted the PC again!
I then downloaded the latest version of iTunes, again.
Now I'm getting "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50).
From checking through GOOGLE, I believe it's something to do with user accounts and iTunes not being able to find the music folder???? But the answers I found all relate to Windows 64 pit PC's.
I am running Windows 7, 32 bit on a Sony Vaio laptop.
I cannot get support from Apple as I don't own a MAC. But I do own an iPhone but it's out of warranty.
HELP !!!!
Can anybody please help me?
ThxIf you go to the web page "http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923" and follow the "Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled" it does the trick. There are few other folders and files that alos need to be deleted!

Everytime i click to go to my itunes, the message "The Itunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." pops up. I have tried my best to fix it by adding another account to my computer and setting that one as the administator and mine as the regular user. When i did that the itunes worked on both, but when i changed my account back to administator and the other account to the regular user my account didnt work but the other one did. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes. This message popped up when i tried to update the itunes to the newest one. And still it wont go away. Can someone help me please. Thanks!

"iTunes application could not be opened. There is not enough memory availab
I just upgraded to the new 7.3 version of iTunes, and now it wont even let me open iTunes. I get an error box that says "iTunes application could not be opened. There is not enough memeory available." However, I have way more than enough memory available, and I've had no problems with any other applications. Quicktime is working just fine as well. I've tried restarting and opening iTunes from every location I could think of. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!
It's a unified GUI program http://gui.interacto.net/ and some people (including me) have had this error message when using it with iTunes 7 Their latest version 1.3.1 seems to overcome this, but if you are not using it ........!
It might be worth reading this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3095171 as a couple of people on it have tried other things -
ITunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (0x666D7
Been using iTunes 6 and 6.5 for months and months on my computer. Upgraded to 7.0. Installs just fine. No errors, no issues.
At the end, it asks if it can launch iTunes 7.0 and I click okay. I get this:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (0x666D743F).
Apple, HELP!!!! I can't use iTunes at all!!!! I'd be willing to reinstall 6 or 6.5 if I could find it somewhere.
Can someone please help? This happened to me as well. I uninstalled iTunes 7 and tried again: nothing. I uninstalled iTunes 7 and Quicktime and tried again: nothing. I uninstalled everything and ran a third-party program called CCleaner to find registry entries that were not removed by the uninstallation and then reinstalled: nothing. Did all that and add a reboot after CCleaner before reinstalling: nothing. Downgraded back to iTunes 6.0.5 and it worked fine. Re-upgraded to iTunes 7, failure.
For those who may need it, you can download iTunes 6.0.5 from apple.com here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html -
ITunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13014)
Ysterday I bought a brand spanking new Acer Aspire 7551 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and installed the latest version of iTunes (64 bit) on it.
I started iTunes with great anticipation because I so looked forward to syncing my iPhone with my Very Own Laptop.
Alas, iTunes did not start. Instead I received a message "the itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13014)." Much Googling and reinstalling later the problem remains.
I have already deleted the genius files and rebooted several times. All to no avail. If anyone can propose a solution, I would be most grateful. Needless to say, I'd be happy to post any further info that can help to solve this problem.Okay fixed my own problem. I don't know how or why, but it appears that I lost permissions for my iTunes folder in documents and settings. It took some messing with file permissions to get access to delete it, but I finally got it.
Once it was gone, no more issue. iTunes launched, created a new iTunes folder, and good as new. -
The itunes application could not be opened. The file name was invalid or..
...too long.
No idea when this started but cannot launch iTunes at all. To reiterate, when I try to launch iTunes I get the following error message: The itunes application could not be opened. The file name was invalid or too long.
I actually uninstalled it and reinstalled on my external drive and it came back with the same error. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot what caused this? I am at my wits ends with this!I can't get mine to open at all. I even try clicking on a song to see if that will open it, nope. I have hooked up my iphone and ipods, nope. Click the icon, nope still nothing. It keeps erroring, but won't let me copy the error to put in here. I looked at the report it wants to send out, but there is nothing that says why it is erroring. Anyone else having this problem. Please email me at [email protected] to let me know what you did to solve it, or who I have to talk to to get it fixed... Thank you

I am getting the following error when trying to open iTunes: "The iTunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this application." I am logged in with the admin (and only) user account on my laptop, so I'm confused as to why this would start happening all of the sudden.
I poked around in the control panel trying to find random options that would fix it, but nothing has. I'm running Windows 7.
Thanks for any help!have you seen this discussion ?
