ITunes application error. 13014!!!!!

Hey im running a pc with XP and trying to get itunes up and running so I'll be able to get my iphone update. Well that is harder than i thought i keep getting this "The iTunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred. (13014).
I've tried lower versions, rebooting and reading forums where no seems to have an answer. Please help would like to update the phone.

I don't know this particular error number but a number of 130... errors are associated with the library files.
Try deleting the file "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" in your iTunes folder
If that doesn't work try recreating your library:

  • How can i fix itunes application error 13005

I getting a itunes application error 13005 when i try opening it.  Is there anyway to fix this.   Thank you everyone for your help.

you need to do 2 simple things:
    1) Delete the Genius file sitting next to your iTunes Library file (Genius.itdb) then
relaunch iTunes and (if needed) select the desired library
    2) Go get yourself a free copy of MacKeeper
and fix the permissions on your HD. This is one of the most probable causes for the file corruption.

This error is usually caused by "Old" Quicktime files the installer does not remove or is blocked from removing/Modifing/updating.
Make sure antivirus and security programs are disabled when you try to install the stand alone version of quicktime.
Try COMPLETELY removing iTUnes AND quicktime by going here and following all steps for removing, Especailly "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976 (Don't follow steps for downloading and reinstalling yet)
Scan the system for adware/spyware with your adware scaner or Ewido http://www.ewido.com Sometimes adware interferes with itunes install.

  • ITunes Application Error When Attempting to Turn on Genius

I am using the latest version of iTunes and QT. After I log in with my Apple ID, iTunes starts to gather info about my library and then I get this error and iTunes crashes.

When I X out of it in the oval, it stops and gives me a Try Again button and when I hit it I get the same error message. Then iTunes automatically closes and I have to repeat the same process - clicking Turn On, logging in, accepting the legal jargon. This *****.

  • Itunes.exe - application error "0x07e20740"

I just installed itunes 10.5.3 but everytime I try to open it I get the following message:  itunes.exe - application error   the instruction at "0x07e20740" referenced memory at "0x07e20740". the memory could not be "written".   What should I do to get rid of this bug so I can open itunes 10.5?

    Arg - itunes application error
The instruction at 0x03e5F026 referenced memory at 0x00000034. The memory could not be "read"
I just upgraded to itunes 11 (11.0.1?). It gave the error below but it was memory at 0x00000008. So I completely uninstalled and re-downloaded. And now it errors on 0x00000034. I know both of these addresses are likely in machine registers that itunes shouldn't touch.
So re-installing didn't work. I'm stuck with no iTunes. Where can I download the old version?

  • ITunes application could not be opened.  An unknown error occurred (13014)

Ysterday I bought a brand spanking new Acer Aspire 7551 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and installed the latest version of iTunes (64 bit) on it.
I started iTunes with great anticipation because I so looked forward to syncing my iPhone with my Very Own Laptop.
Alas, iTunes did not start. Instead I received a message "the itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13014)." Much Googling and reinstalling later the problem remains.
I have already deleted the genius files and rebooted several times. All to no avail. If anyone can propose a solution, I would be most grateful. Needless to say, I'd be happy to post any further info that can help to solve this problem.

Okay fixed my own problem. I don't know how or why, but it appears that I lost permissions for my iTunes folder in documents and settings. It took some messing with file permissions to get access to delete it, but I finally got it.
Once it was gone, no more issue. iTunes launched, created a new iTunes folder, and good as new.

  • HELP! The itunes application could not be opened. An Unknown error occurred (13014).

a day or so ago my macbook 13in crashed in the middle of use, took several minutes to then reboot and now seems to be working fine except itunes will not open. when i try to open it a dialog box appears with the following message: "The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occured (13014).
I am running snow leopard, and it first appeared it was disk space but i checked my HD and it says there is 372GB available so i cant imagine its that.
I am by no means any sort of genius on here, so any help is beyond appreciated!

    Redownload iTunes. ----> http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    That should solve the problem

  • The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (1301

I launched iTunes 9.0.1 today and got this error:
"The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (13014)"
An archived tip on the iTunes for Windows forum that suggested deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb. That didn't work, I also had to delete iTunes Library Extras.itdb. (For the record I renamed them instead of deleting, but the original post suggested deleting).
Anyway, I thought I'd pass that on in case anyone else experiences this problem.

I had the same error and I keep my iTune folder on an external drive due to size. I tried to create a sub-folder to temporarirly hold the itdb file(s) and give it a try. The system wouldn't let me create the folder, at which point I remembered I had left my mac on but unplugged to find the battery drained in the morning. Upon plugging it in, it came back but then told me I hadn't exjected my external disk. So, I figured there might be a correlation. I tried to eject the disk and it wouldn't let me though no programs were running. So, I went ahead an chose to "Force" the eject via the option it presented me. On the un/re-plugging the disk, I tried to created a subfolder and it worked. Before moving any files to it, I tried starting iTunes again and voila, it worked. So, I suspect the comment above about files being locked is what bit me. Hope this helps...

  • Error 13014 cannot open itunes

I recently updated my iTunes to iTunes 10.2 for Windows (64-bit). Everytime I try to open iTunes I get an error message saying: "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occured (13014)."
I looked in previous threads and they said delete the genius folder, I did but, it still doesn't open.
Any ideas on how to fix this because it is frustrating as I can't update my iPod.

I understand your frustration, Ive had this problem for weeks. Finally found something that solved my problem.
I have Immunet installed and the following site forum had the answer:
    http://forum.immunet.com/index.php?/topic/718-itunes-ver-10-64-bit/
I have Windows 7 64bit, following all previous recommedations to delete the genius files, reinstalling itunes and rebooting the pc never solved my problem.
    Peace.
