ITunes Applications Update Issue

Since updating to the latest version of iTunes (last two versions), I noticed that clicking on the "Check for update button" under the applications section, if you have an iPhone, causes iTunes to show you applications that actually dont need updating. Anotherwords, looking at the available updates on the actual phone itself, you can see there are two updates for example. Going into iTunes and clicking on the button to check for updates, shows that there are updates for almost all of my applications where in fact, my applications do not need updating. When browsing my mac to the default applications folder, you can see that there are several itteratinos of the same application with a "_1 or _2" at the end. Why does iTunes keep the old versions of the applications? It should ask you if you would like to remove the older version to the recycle bin or simply remove the older versions behind the seens. Also, the check for update button it very buggy. If you succesfully update the application on the phone itself, then sync to your mac then click on the check for update button in iTunes, it tells you that there are no updates avaialbe. But why was I shown that there were updatees for lots of my other applications when in fact there were not?

hi guys, well - in my case i discovered what was happening...maybe it's the same for you.
problem: applications (in itunes) said i had several updates available, but when i'd go to download the them it said there were no updates avail for me. for a while now i've been unable to update these apps.
solution: i did a get info on one of the apps - clicking on the applications tab in itunes you can totally see the apps there...just "control-click" or "right click" and get info (command-I also works).
anyway, look and see what user that app belongs to. sure enough, the account i was currently logged into itunes with was not the account that purchased the apps. i logged out of itunes, menu bar/store/sign out - then i logged back in with the correct user.
fixed.
all the apps updated, and the number disappeared from the apps icon...totally fixed.
well, hope that helps. was a completely simple solution and i'm surprised it took as long as it did for me to figure it out.

  • Application updates issue after upgrading to 8.1

After upgrading to iTunes 8.1 I've got some ghost application updates indication.
    Look at the screenshot: http://yfrog.com/0bitunes81bugp
Installing new applications doesn't do anything, installing new updates doesn't do anything either. However, when I deleted some junk app, it decreased the phantom updates counter by 1. So I guess that if I delete all the applications (or guess those 7 that cause it) and then re-download them, then all will be fixed, but that's some inconvenient hack.
Does anyone have a better solution?

Oh, thanks for all the support, I've found the cause and now I'm perfectly OK.
But, oh, Apple is screwed once again. I am not surprised at all. Find better programmers, **** you! And you should improve your customer support!

  • AppStore application updates issue

From within iTunes 8 I get the message that there are updates for 10 applications available (I have NOT downloaded them though).
From the iPod Touch (v2.1 installed) I can browse the AppStore fine but checking for application updates here I only get the info "All application are up to date".
Any ideas what the reason for this is?
I'd like to update on the iPod only because updating through iTunes (at least with v7.7) had these strange side-effects (like storing the updated version with applicationname.1) but of course can't when AppStore on the Touch doesn't see the updates....
    Regards,
    SpaceAceOne

Sure, that would be a way to do the actual updating process for the 10 applications.
But I was wondering why the AppStore on the Touch does say that everything is up to date while iTunes 8 says that there are updates for 10 of my applications (I have installed about 28 applications on my Touch)
In the past the AppStore on the Touch also told me about updates! Maybe 2.1 has broken this somehow? (I don't have any other problems with 2.1)

  • Application Update issue

    Hi Friends,
I have one application on app store which I just have uploaded  with v1.0.
where I got one problem that the one xib missing the UITestfield.
so I updated the code and uploaded the application again on the app store(v1.1).
In both case application is uploaded successfully.
    The problem comes here
I already had applicaiton installed on my iphone with v1.0
After that I have received the new updates and then I installed the application v1.1, however it was not showing me the textfield in the xib(screen).
Then I removed the application(v1.1) and installed it by downloading directly from app store and then it started working properly.
so I am not sure that when I tried updating application, why the changes were not reflected ?
AS there might have multiple users downloaded the v1.0 application and whoever does the upgrade might will receive the same problem.

There is indeed a way to tell whether you have the refreshed version or not. But this is not expensive as a 600MB download.
From your current installation, drag and drop the PPC50.ARMV4I cab file from $OH\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications\mobileserver\setup\us\ppc50\armv4i\olite.cab to your cab device. Tap on it. Open \OraCE\polite.txt. If you have NLS_SORT and NLS_LOCALE, then you have the refresh version.
Sorry if it sounds not so straighforward. This is the easiest way I can think of so far, till something else clicks !
Edit: If you are on the 10.3 Refresh, you should not face the issue mentioned in the first post of Installation of SDK CAB Files for PPC50 failed (Olite 10gR3)

  • Logging into ITunes and update issues

i have just been through the saga of restoring a backup of my 4S phone to my new iPhone 6 Plus - took over a day but using the support community eventually found a way to do it. I then wanted to use Airplay to show a video on my iPhone 6 Plus via my Apple TV - the results were poor and eventually no video would work at all. The Apple TV also reported it was not logged into iTunes. Every attempt to log into ITunes failed. I tried connecting via an Ethernet rather than wifi but it was not the problem. I could see that there was a Apple TV upgrade available so I started to upgrade - nothing happened with no progress bar activity showing and again looked like a failed connection. I persisted with trying and finally just left it 'upgrading' and eventually the progress bar showed the update would take 7 HOURS!
So I left the Apple TV updating and went to bed. This morning I find the Apple TV has updated and logged into ITunes.
IF Apple came clean I am sure they would admit that the IOS 8 upgrade at the same time as introducing new iPhones has this time completely screwed their servers. The problem I had with restoring a backup to my new iPhone I think was mainly the stupid checked box in iTunes for synch all iPhotos to the phone - nearly 8,000 of them!
WHy why on earth did Apple not introduce IOS 8 FIRST then after settling down introduce the new phones. I doubt that Apple will fully recover from this (and bendy phones) adverse publicity and is all down to being too eager to tie everything in with a much publicised conference launch.

Ok, time to report the issue here:

  • ITunes Recent Update issues

    Hi,
Since updating iTunes to 10.6, iTunes now quits whenever my iPhone 4 is plugged in.  I get an "iTunes is checking your library" message, then 'Itunes has unexpectedly quit".
    Any ideas?
I'm running a Mac Book Pro, OS 10.7.3
    Thanks
    Si

What does the error message say? (Precise text, please.)

  • Site Manager Update Issue Continues

    Duncan;
It appears that the iTunes U Desktop Application update issue has not been resolved. I added new content to a collection (see attached link) on Friday. As of this morning, the tracks have not appeared in the iTunes U Desktop application (ver. 10.0.1), although they do appear in the Quick View Preview, but cannot be previewed in that window.
The tracks have been available for preview and download all weekend on the iPad and iPhone.

    Greetings All;
Just checking to see what, if anything has happened with the Public Site Manager Update issue on your campus or in your office.
I've uploaded content that still hasn't shown up in the iTunes Desktop Application in over two weeks.
Oddly enough, I have added URL's to our site, and that information shows up within an hour of Publishing the site.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a resolution of the issue.

The Ap store on my iPad shows threr is an application update ready.  However thhere is no update.  My wife has the same issue on her iPad.  What needs to be done?

There are countless posts about this.  There's a problem at Apple's end and has been so for several days.
However, I have no trouble updating using itunes on my computer and later syncing to my device.

  • ITunes Available Application Update Count Incorrect

In iTunes, on the left-hand browser, it always shows that I have 1 iPhone application update available. However, if I click the "1 Update Available" link in the Store, it then says that there are no updates currently available. So, the available update count is incorrect. Thoughts?

I experienced this same issue. An update number in iTunes, yet nothing to update once you click the update link.
I also realized that I had duplicates in both iTunes itself and in the Music > iTunes > Mobile Applications Folder. The number of duplicated apps matched my false "update number."
So, if an application was duplicated in either iTunes itself or in the Mobile Applications Folder, I made sure that each duplicated app was already synced to the iPhone, then simply removed the duplicated applications from both iTunes and from the Mobile Applications Folder.
Then when I did my next sync, I made sure to choose the "transfer" button to have my apps synced back into iTunes. Once this was done, the problem completely disappeared. I hope this helps you!

  • ITunes NOT updating applications correctly

Things are not well in the land of iPhone Application updates. Below are some observations and thoughts on might be causing them. Please post your experiences since I assume I'm not alone here.
Step 1: I noticed in the iTunes sidebar that 2 applications had updates (thats the little number that shows up next to the applications sidebar item)
Step 2: I click on the number and it opens an update screen that displays 6 applications. Why display 6 of my 10 or so applications when supposedly only two have updates.
Step 3: I click on the option to update all applications and 6, not 2, are downloaded
Step 4: No auto sync happens so I manually sync and only one of the 6 update on my iphone.
Step 5: In order to actually get the new versions onto my iphone I have had to manually delete each of the updated applications and then add them back. Huge pain especially since application load/unload times are so long.
Here is the common thread I've found so far. If you right click an application's icon in iTunes and get info, it will show a version number. Only one of my applications actually showed an incremented version number...you guessed it...the one that actually re-synced to my iPhone.
The other applications still showed version 1.0, but when I manually forced a sync, I could see that the new functionality was present. AIM is a great example of this. ITunes store shows it as version 1.1. iTunes on my Mac indicated an update was present. I "updated" the application and sync'ed, but the "show info" on the AIM application remains 1.0 and it did NOT sync the new code to my iphone. After manually deleting AIM via selective sync'ing applications, I was able to get the new code onto my iphone.
I've been able to reproduce this with Phone Sabre, AIM, Light, and several others.
Another side problem is that whenever you update an application, it downloads it to your mobile applications folder and does not overwrite the old version. This may well be by design, but that folder is going to get ugly with all the versions sitting there. AIM, AIM-1, AIM-2, etc.
The naming, btw, has nothing to do with the version numer it's just part of OSX; when it encounters a file of the same name it uses the same name but appends an incremented number at the end.
    Any ideas?

Yeah...this is definitely NOT a firewall issue.
It is a version control and file management issue.
There are lots of applications that the App store still calls V 1.0 even though w/in the application itself, it is listed as 1.x.
This is often true of the application icon listed within iTunes on your Mac. For example, right click and get info on AIM, it will show as v1.0 even thought it is actually 1.1.
To be honest, iTunes needs some serious work when it comes to how applications are updated. Some attention to detail with respect to version numbers will fix the problems I've listed above, but the file management is another story.
Why? Well, how many people have multiple "versions" of a song, ringtone, or video that they want referred to by the same name. Ummmm...none that I can think of. iTunes was not designed with "updates" in mind. A different version of a song...is...well...a different song. You probably want both the original and the cover version of that Beatles tune.
For applications, we want just the opposite. If artists actually released the the draft versions of their music via iTunes, then maybe it would be similar, but they don't.
Some reasonably straight forward Applescript should be able to fix this issue, but that certainly wouldn't work for our friends in the PC world.
Apple is going to have to find some way to stage new versions and then archive the old ones with the option to delete them either immediately or over time.
As it stands now...it's a pretty big mess.

  • Itunes application will not open giving error code (-50) after update

I'm having a bit of a problem with itunes. I'm running windows 7 64-bit and I hope someone could help me. When I finished making some purchases from itunes store over the weekend, I was told that there was an update for itunes. So I updated itunes and now I cannot get into itunes period. Luckly I was able to back up my purchases. When I try to open a movie that I purchased from the backup folder, I get a message that says "The iTunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." or when I try to open itunes running as administrator I get another message "the itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)." I am the only person using this computer and I have full admin rights. I had tried to download itunes again and even repaired itunes, but it just keeps crashing (B.S.o.D.). My OS is up to date. It also shows that itunes is running in task manager. So I have no idea wt heck is going on. Any help would be thankful.

I had tried to download itunes again and even repaired itunes, but it just keeps crashing (B.S.o.D.).
What numerical and text codes are you getting for the BSOD? (For example, 0X0000007E.)
If the blue screen is referencing a specific file (for example, ati3duag.dll), let us know what the file is called too.

  • My new iPod Classic will not sync with my new Mac Book. My iPhone 5 does, so does 2nd gen. iPod touch. Apple Store cannot figure it out. Tried different Classics on different Macs, same thing. iTunes update issue ?

The iPod Classic I bought a month ago is not synching with my new Mac Book I bought 3 weeks ago. All the software was immediately updated. My iPhone 5 synchs fine, and so does my 2nd generaton iPod Touch. The original computer I synched all of these devices on was my HP latop. I bought my Mac and Classic to the Apple Store for a 'Genius Appt' and they could not figure out what the problem is. The connected my Classic to another computer and the same thing happens. It says device is not recognized. They also took other iPod Classics and connected them to my Mac and other Macs. The same thing was happening. They took notes and said it probably is an iTunes update issue.
I can manually drag songs into my Classic but I lost all playlists because it cannot be backed up as well and they had to restore it. For now I am holding on to it but it's usless to me if I cannot use it the way I liked too. I used it for the gym and bike riding and my last iPod battery died after 6 years. A charge would last 45 miutes. I love the Classic for what I use it for but it's a $275 brick to me now. At least the renewed by receipt so I can get a full refund.
Is anyone else seeing this issue ? The Apple Store employee said he saw a first generation iPad havng the same issue. As of now the Support Dest is unaware of this. As much as I love my new Mac I am disappointed I cannot sync my new Classic to it. Total bummer.
    Any help would be apprecated.

By the way, I totally restored everything. It was ok. It starts to 'unrecognize' my iPod Classic when it comes to synching with iPhoto. After this happened all the menus disappeared from my iPod (music, Podcasts, movies synched fine). It seems to be a problem when synching with iPhoto. It was the same thing before.

Yes. Check to see if the iTunes application has been moved or renamed before installing it.
