ITunes Artwork stored WHERE?!

I've amassed a large body of downloaded artwork in my iTunes library over the past few months, and am keen to preserve it whilst I reinstall my XP Service Pack 1 operating system in order to upgrade it to SP2.
However, I cannot for the life of me find out where it is stored on my PC!
And now I learn that iTunes will no longer allow access to artwork for tunes that you haven't bought from the iTunes Store!
The artwork is clearly downloaded into my computer, but stored where..?
There's nothing in the Preferences and nothing in the iTunes folder.
Can anyone tell me where iTunes stores downloaded artwork, and how I can save all previously downloaded artwork and reinstate it once my HDD has been blanked and the OS has been reinstalled.
I await your collective learned insights.
Thank you all.
Regards,
Dave G.

P.S. Everyone:
I DON'T USE MP3 files!
I find they are very noisy and give me a splitting headache!
Plus, they cannot be edited without further aural loss.
They seem to be the modern replacement for compact cassette
(i.e. NOT for the discerning listener!)
I use only AIFF, WAV or BWF files.
Nice!

  • Where is the artwork stored?

    Simple simple one....
After you add the artwork in itunes.. what happens if you move the library?
Is the artwork stored in the actual library file or where!?!?!?!
Just cannot see where the image files are stored...
    Does thatmake sense?
    Thanks in advance.

Right click on a song and choose Get Info, then choose the Artwork tab. The Artwork tab shows all album art and from there you can select the image and copy it by choosing Edit>Copy. Then you can paste that image into a photo editing program.

    Hey Smart Apples,
My iTunes Artwork screen saver is not working. After reboot, then selecting iTunes Artwork in System Preferences, just a black screen appears in the preview, as well as when pressing Test, and when allowing the screen saver to start on it's own. The error message in Console says...

    I've tried...
        deleting ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.* files
making sure each album has a cover in iTunes
running Get Album Artwork in iTunes
        recreating symbolic link ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music -> ~/Public/iTunes Music/
    ... but doesn't help.
All other screen savers work... my usual is Flurry, and it works too, but gives invalid framebuffer operation under Console.
    Nothing running/checked under Sharing.

    Does anyone have a solution?
Environment: Mac OS X (10.7.2), Macbook Pro (late 2008)

So it turned out that the cause of the problem wasn't as complicated as I thought...
I had a few songs that were not added to the iTunes library, instead referenced from other locations on my hard drive.
Specifically, if you bring up the Get Info window of a song, under Summary > Where, it may show a different path than your usual iTunes Media folder location, set under Preferences.
    E.g. Where: ~/Desktop/downloaded_song.mp3
I guess, this happens when you drag a song into your iTunes instead of adding it to the library, and apparently, causes problems with the Artwork Screen Saver.
    Solution:
    To correct it,
For those songs, go to File > Add to Library...
Then find and select the song file.
That's all I had to do to get the screen saver working... All your songs have to be added to your iTunes Library.
I think my brother was messing around with my playlist... I hope Apple nails a better way to lock-unlock/secure OS X soon (proximity sensor, biometric 3D face recognition, unique voice recognition, soul recognition, etc.).
That malloc error message still shows up; that must be an unrelated issue with the screen saver.
I hope this helps out all those suffering through the same issue with their iTunes Artwork Screen Saver.

  • Why is some of my iTunes artwork showing up as black and white?

I have already posted this issue here (Reddit) but I guess I'll make a post here too.
I'm having a major problem with iTunes on Windows 7 (64 bit), where my iTunes artwork is showing up as black and white, and videos play with a majorly distorted output. (http://imgur.com/TQXA9OH)
No idea how to fix this, but if I copy paste artwork in from somewhere else, it works fine, however if I download album artowrk using iTunes' built in feature that automatically does it, 75% of the time the album artwork turns out black and white. What's even stranger is that on my iPhone the artwork is fine, but on my iPod Classic it shows up as black and white too. Videos play fine on both devices, but are still distorted in iTunes.
Can anyone help me fix this? I'm running the newest version of iTunes.

In your sync boxes for TV shows have you checked the box for remove after viewing and/or don't sync after viewing?

  • Is there a way to use the photos from iphoto in a collage like the itunes artwork screensaver?

is there a way to use the photos from iphoto in a collage like the itunes artwork screensaver?

Yes except i would like it to look like the itunes album artwork screen saver does.  the itunes album artwork screen saver shows a bunch of squares and when one of the boxes changes it spins and goes to the next album artwork
what you have indicated above is kind of like a slide show where it shows you one of your pictures and zooms out to show you a collage version of another one of your pictures.  i would like it to be formatted similar to the way the itunes screen saver is.
if you click on itunes artwork on the same menu as shown in your last post, you will see what i am trying to achieve.

  • I thought as a consumer, Apple works for us.  Had I known what I'd lose by upgrading, I would have thought twice!!!  I want Front Row BACK!!! also what is this new playlist that was auto added when I upgraded?  It's called iTunes  Artwork screen?

Think the iTunes artwork playlist is for a new screensave they put in where if you click the album artwork it plays the song.

  • ITunes Artwork with no embedded covers in the MP3 files ?

    Hi
    New iTunes user,
I have a question is it possibly to have artwork displayed in iTunes without having embedded artwork images actually in the MP3 files ?
I use Windows Media Center and WMP12/7MC just uses the Folder.jpg Hi-Res cover image in each albums folder.
It appears iTunes only shows any covers if I embed covers in to the MP3 files which I'd rather not do.
What are my options if any?
    Many thanks.

I have my entire music collection ripped using iTunes and stored on a Mac mini running Windows. It is all in Apple Lossless format and shared with Windows Media Player and Media Center which can play the Apple Lossless files thanks to a solution I came up with along with assistance from Milenko Mitrovic.
While I do deliberately chose to embed 600x600 pixel artwork in each track (disk space is cheap), I also put a folder.jpg of the same artwork in each album folder for the benefit of WMP and Media Center.
The steps I use to do this are as follows.
    1. Rip the CD using iTunes
    2. Tell iTunes to download album artwork for that Album. Life is made much easier if you only do one album at a time.
    3. Look in your Music folder for the iTunes folder and look in that for the Album Artwork folder
    4. In the Album Artwork folder will be a Download folder and in that various subfolders eventually leading to a file called something like A392573AD3DE300C-45855BDAB6F38792.itc2 by checking the file creation date/time you will be able to confirm it corresponds with the one you just downloaded.
    5. Use the free utility bitmaprip available here http://mark0.net/soft-bitmaprip-e.html to 'extract' the real artwork from inside Apple's proprietary itc2 file. You can then move this to the iTunes album folder for that album and name it folder.jpg
If you then like I do, want to make this artwork embedded, then do the following extra steps.
    6. Select one of the tracks for the album
    7. Copy the artwork to the clipboard
    8. Clear the downloaded artwork
    9. Delete any folders left in your Album Artwork folder so they do not confuse you for the next album
    10. Select all the tracks for the album
    11. Paste the artwork in

  • Itunes artwork into screensavers

As I understand it, there is no simple way of using my itunes cover art in another screen-saver.
What I'd really like is to use my cover art in Moving Photos 3D or Image tv.
I understand this is because the artwork is stored in the audio file itself (although the itunes screensaver seems to be able to gather them all together in one place)...
As far as I can see , I'd have to copy my artwork manually to a new folder. They are listed as .pictclipping files. how do I change them to jpg so that they can be seen in finder/work in other screensavers?
Does anyone know a simple way to get the cover art to display in other screen-savers ?

I have just "played around" with the screen saver settings.
There is an interesting one called "nature patterns" (any under "pictures")
You can select a mosaic (it takes a while to load) and is spectacular. Now, the itunes artwork is the bit i cannot answer, but the show with mosaic is much more spectacular.
I have just to try and play around with hidden files but it may not be hidden: the itunes artwork is in homefolder/music/itunes/Album Artwork/Local/ and they are all called .itc

  • Itunes artwork to screensaver

this is an esoteric little problem and not of much importance to performance but i'm curious... there's a screensaver that uses itunes artwork, but when i try to use it, it says there's no artwork in my itunes library... now, i've never downloaded a single cut from itunes, my entire library is ripped from my cd's, however, i have downloaded several hundred album covers using itunes 7's 'get artwork' command. is there some special way to get that into the proper folder so the screensaver works? like i said, not earthshaking or really necessary, i'd just like to see it work... thanks.. Mark

    MrTaste,
    Welcome to Discussions,
As far as I can tell, the iTunes screensaver only uses artwork which is embedded in the song files.
Artwork you downloaded by the 'Get Album Artwork' command, is stored as .ict files in various subfolders at /Users/Username/Music/iTunes/Album Artwork/Download.
Maybe a next update of OS X 10.4 will also have an updated screensaver which can show downloaded artwork.
As for now you could copy the downloaded artwork to the desktop (drag the picture in the artwork pane to the desktop).
Then clear the downloaded artwork and add the pictures, you saved on the desktop, to the albums.
Reading your post ("not earthshaking or really necessary"), I don't think this is a valid option for you.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Oystbjoe
the below is untested, as I dont have artwork for my tracks. in iTunes for me it throws an error saying
"iTunes got an error: Can't get artwork of current track."
im hoping that this is because I dont have artwork associated with any tracks, let me no.

  • TS4009 all of my audio purchases from itunes are stored on my iphone which is taking up all of my memory. can i back them up to icloud? i tried to sync with my itunes library, but the library on my computer doesn't contain all of my songs.

All of my purchases from iTunes are stored on my iPhone and taking up all of my memory. I want to store the music in iCloud if possible, but I can't get it to work. I tried to sync my phone to iTunes, but the library on my computer is all screwed up! I backed up my library to my harddrive, but now a lot of the songs aren't there and the ones that are there have multiple duplicates! If I try to sync my phone to my computer I'm afraid it will sync to the current library on my computer and I will lose all of the music on my phone! HELP this is driving me crazy!

There's a menu choice (I think under "Files") that lets you sync purchased items on a device back to itunes.  Look for that.
iCloud does not store music.  If you want to do that you'd have to subscribe to itunes Match, but to get music to the match servers, you need the music in the itunes library on your computer.

You can't connect directly to the external drive, but should be able to use iTunes Home Sharing via the laptop.

I have my itunes media stored on my external hard drive.  On this external drive I have a folder called "TV shows".  I previously cut and pasted itunes TV shows to this folder to free up some space.  How do I incorporate this folder (TV shows) back into the itunes library?

assuming the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked in preferences > advanced, drag the folder into an open iTunes window while holding option (⌥).
