Itunes asking to restore windows?

"Restore Windows. The application “iTunes” was forced to quit while trying to restore its windows.  Do you want to try to restore its windows again?"
What does this mean? Should I do it? I think when I rebooted my laptop iTunes and Firefox were frozen. Can't find anything online about this. Thanks for your help.

Holy Flicking Cow! I see two period punctuation marks in your post, so I know your keyboard must have one. Could you maybe try to make use of it a little more and make your posts readable. That might be the worst run on sentence I have ever had the pain to try and read.
Anyway... Start with these articles and see if that gets you anywhere...

Computer crashed (blue screen appeared) - turned it back on, plugged the iPhone in and iTunes asking to restore the iPhone. It starts the restore process and than blue screen appears again. Now the iPhone doesn't work - tried to reset it. It says to connect to the iTunes, but every time I do this the computer crashes (blue screen). Help!!!

  • Final Cut Pro X will not open:  Asking to "restore windows"???

    Hey guys,
    I have restarted, updated and done everything I can to get Final Cut Pro X (10.0.1) to open and I keep getting this alert >>> PHOTOBUCKET.  I have done nothing new to my hardware or software (other than apples updates) since installing it a month ago from the app store.
    The alert keeps asking me to either "Don't Restore Windows" or to "Restore Windows" and I clicked on both numerous times and I still get the "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly" alert which looks like this >>> PHOTOBUCKET after about 10 seconds of selecting either option.
    Any ideas?  -Joe

    Have you tried trashing your preferences?
    Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
    Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
    With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs first, then if trashing makes no difference, you can restore all your settings.
    If you trash them and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then if they get corrupted you can ditch the bad prefs and restore from your (Digital Rebellion) backup.
    Can't guarantee it, but it's worth a try.

  • After OS X 10.5.7 update, iTunes asks to restore iPhone.

    After installing 10.5.7, my iTunes asks me to restore iPhone, when I plug it in to my MacBook Pro.
    Please Help.

    I've experienced exactly the same twice. After I did the update yesterday I was watching some tv and filling my iPhone with some music. I thought. I looked at iTunes and it wanted to restore my iPhone. I wasn't able to get back to the normal iPhone tab in iTunes so eventually I just restored.
    Couple of hours later. Same thing happened again. Ever since I've been trying not to use iTunes in combination with my iPhone. And only connect when needed.
    And to the other guys replying. Please be relevant....

  • ITunes asks to insert Windows CD to configure system

    I have used iTunes for some time but recently tried to purchse tunes online with a gift card. However, I can't access anything because when it downloads the software, I then get a message asking me to insert the CD for Windows Small Business so iTunes can configure it. I can't find my Windows backup disc though! And I have since upgraded to Windows me or whatever that system is. Any advice?

  • Restoring iPodmusic to my iTunes if I restore windows

    I've recently come to the conclusion that restoring my computer would be the best option to rid it of all the junk that I've collected unknowingly over the past year. My iTunes library has almost 30 GB of music, games, podcasts, and videos. Backing these files to disc would take forever so I was wondering how I could go about doing this via my iPod. I have an 80 GB video iPod and I want to keep all games, music, and video (the podcasts could easily be downloaded again). How can I do this? Also, I have some music that is in parts of my computer other than the "iTunes Music" folder if that makes any difference. I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

    If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
    The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
    If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • IPhone Looping in iTunes - asking to restore

    I tried to dock my iPhone to my Mac and found that it continually says:
    An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer.
    It gives me 2 options:
    1. Set up as a new iPhone
    2. Restore from the backup
    I choose option 2, the iPhone indicates it is restoring then it reboots. After it comes backup and mounts in iTunes, I get the same messages all over again.
    Apparently an infinite loop
    Anyone else have this issue?

    I know what to do:
    Take iPhone out of cradle
    Reset it (Home+Sleep/Wake)
    Go to Prefs, iPhone, Erase Backup History (in iTunes)
    Re-sync and choose create a new backup
    That should do it. This happened to me too

  • ITunes asks to Restore iPod, but that does nothing

    Actually I just solved me problem, but I thought I would post to help others in this situation. The situation would be connecting an iPod(mine's classic) to a Windows XP machine(mine's pro).
    Windows has drive letter problems, so this was really the problem. Nothing wrong with the iPod to begin with. When you connect a piece of removable media(flash drive, iPod, etc.) to a USB port in Windows, Windows has to assign a letter to the drive as you are probably familiar with seeing in My Computer. Well, the problem is sometimes Windows forgets that it already assigned a letter to something else and it refers to the new device by the old devices drive letter causing the problem. Essentially iTunes thinks there is a problem because Windows is malfunctioning and referring to two different hardware items with the same name.
    Luckily the solution is VERY easy(once figure out what is wrong and you know how to fix it). If you're not sure if this is your problem, try steps 1-2 below and you will find out.
    Step 1: Go to Computer Management console by right-clicking on the My Computer icon in the Start Menu and choosing "Manage".
    Step 2: Select "Disk Maganagement" (on the left side) and you will see all the drive recognized by your computer on the right. You should be able to distinguish the drives by their respective sizes and/or file formats. (Note: it will not tell you that the drive is an iPod drive, it will just show the drive info as the system sees it). Anyway if you notice that the iPod drive has the letter that you are used to seeing associated with another drive, then there's your problem. If there is no conflict, then keep searching the forums, sorry
    Step 3: Right-click on the iPod drive and select "Change Drive Letters and Paths". Then choose "Change". From the drop down menu choose another drive letter (if unsure, you might try to use Z: as the chances are very slim that one is already being used). Then click OK, OK, and Close to get out of the windows.
    If the changes don't take immediately, try restarting iTunes, but you should see it work right away.
    **IMPORTANT: Windows recognizes devices based on their hardware ID and the port to which they are connected, so if you change the USB port to which you are connecting your device, Windows will think it is a new device and you may have to go through the above steps again. Good Luck!

    Hi,
    Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
    It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

    Try -
    Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
    Install the latest version of iTunes.
    Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
    Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
    Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
    If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
    The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    I NEVER entered a password for the backup but now I want to restore my iphone and itunes asks for one. What can I do?

    @Razmee209 is right there is nothing you can do if it is an encrypted back up
    iOS: Troubleshooting encrypted backups - Apple Support
    BUT you could try to see if you have a back up that is not encrypted. If you go to iTunes Preferences (On a Windows go to Edit Menu under the Play Button - On a Mac click on iTunes at the top left) Click on Devices and if you see a back up that does not have a lock next to it you will be able to restore from that back up without using that password.
    Encrypted passwords are set up at the time you create the back up.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
