ITunes asks for reinstall to access my iPod Touch

Good day, everyone,
I haven't found a conclusive answer to this problem so I'm taking the liberty to make a post about it.
I've just built a new computer, using windows 7 pro, 64 bits.
I've logically downloaded the latest 64 bits version of iTunes, which installed nicely.
However, when I plugged my iPod Touch (32Gb, current gen), I had this message from iTunes I'm afraid many 64bits systems users are familiar with :
"This ipod cannot be used because the required software was not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install itunes again."
Which I did, following Apple Support page's walkthrough, unfortunately without any success.
I tried a bunch of different tricks (I even tried manually unpacking the installer to install everything manually, and I also tried the 32bits version of iTunes for good measure) but none proved successful.
While trying to install each package manually, I noticed the Device Manager was unable to install properly, I therefore have nothing in the Services window the Support page tells about, neither can I find the iPod driver in the system32 folder.
I'm afraid I can't see what else I could do.
Would anyone be able to help me, please?
Pixo.
ps: The iPod itself is working, I used to plug it in my laptop, and it still works perfectly with it.

Here it goes, sorry it's a tad lengthy :

  • ITunes asking for reinstall and still won't work with win 7?

Just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on new unwritten hard drive, when I try and open iTunes I get the message that some registry files are not available, the ones that itunes uses for CD burning/playing, please reinstall iTunes. I have done this over and over and it makes no difference. iTunes will open but I cannot play anything and the speakers are working fine. I spent a couple hours with HP chat last night because my CD/DVD writer had error issues, and the gentleman from HP helped me to edit the upper and lower filters so that my CD player would be recognized by windows 7 and work, now iTunes won't work. I'm completely baffled because I have the same Windows 7 OS on another computer and iTunes works fine with that one. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Cindy

Hooray hooray hooray!  So many times we never hear back what happens and it just makes my day to know when something works!
I will investigate why hp doesn't make this solution easier to find.  Thanks again for your response!
    Thanks!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Anyone recommend best iTunes release for user with no iPhone/iPod touch?

After finally resolving some iPod restore issues - I am going to clean up my Windows install with a fresh install this weekend.
Just wonder what folks think about always using the latest iTunes if one does not have an iPhone/iTouch etc. As I gathered as much info as I could on the iTunes releases within the last year or so - it seems each release tends to add more overhead. Like more services suddenly appearing like the "mobile device" service being installed on top of the already RAM hungry core components.
When I first got this iPod for Xmas last year - and installed iTunes for the first time - the thing that struck me the most was watching iTunes guzzle 65MB of RAM just sitting there doing nothing (not even playing a track). After that eye-opener (and no change for the better over the last release which seem to use somewhere around 90MB in my last tests) - I simply reverted back to Winamp 5.35 as my actual player. It uses 4.5MB when minimized to the System Tray and I simply set it to scan the My Music folder - giving me the entire library with almost no overhead - I mean c'mon...90MB to just listen to some music?
So - if you are in this situation - 5.5g 80GB iPod with no iPhone, no iPod Touch and use iTunes simply to load/manage the iPod - what iTunes release (within the last year) would you recommend for the best balance of features/performance and least amount of background drain? I have read some have stuck with 7.2.3.6...good? Bad?
Another Q - if I was to go current - can one install the 7.5 package and then uninstall or disable that Mobile Service(or not even install it all at) when installing iTunes?
    Appreciate any comments!
    Cheers!
    VP

I don't recall there being any choices when it came to installing iTunes. I guess if there is an issue about the resources that iTunes is using, I would only start iTunes when I want to manage the music on the iPod. Otherwise, not start and/or minimize it, especially since you are using another software product to play music. I haven't started iTunes on my laptop today, and the iTunes helper is only using 1.9MB of memory right now. I'm using the latest version. I'll start up iTunes and give you a reply on how much it is using.
I just started iTunes and it is only using 31MB of RAM.

  • When I try to download anything from iTunes or the app store on my iPod touch, my sister's Apple ID comes up instead of my Apple ID. How can I get my iPod touch to ask for the password for my Apple ID rather that of my sister's.

When I try to download anything from iTunes or the App Store on my iPod Touch, my sister's Apple ID pops up instead of mine. How can I get my iPod Touch to display my Apple ID and ask for my password rather than display my sister's Apple ID?

You can try to tell the iPod to use yours:
    1. Tap Settings
    2. Navigate to "iTunes & App Store"
    3. Tap Apple ID:
    4. Tap "Sign Out"
    5. Sign in to your account.

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • I have itunes set up to sync with my Ipod Touch and my Ipad.  As of today, it keeps looking for an iPhone to sync with and give me an error message.  I don't have an iPhone and don't know how to stop it from popping open with this error message.

I have Itunes set up to sync with my Ipod touch and Ipad.  As of today, iTunes has started searching to sync with an iPhone, which I don't have and pops open with an error message stating it cannot locate the iPhone to sync.  I have looked in devices and only the iPad and iPod Touch are listed.  Any ideas on how to stop iTunes from searching for any iPhone it is never going to find? It is annoying to have it popping up all the time with the error message.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • I wanted to update 6 apps. but iTunes asked for the password of my old Apple ID. Now, I can't get into iTunes., I wanted to update 6 apps. but iTunes asked for the password of my old Apple ID. Now, I can't get into iTunes.

When I opened my App Store today, I found 6 apps needing update.  I clicked “Update All” and there popped “Sign in to iTunes Store” and asked me to enter the Apple ID password for <my account>.  I entered my password for the Apple ID but it said “Your Apple ID or password is incorrect.” Since I entered incorrect passwords many times, I had to reset my password two times already.  I want to update the apps on my phone. But, I can’t , and this is tiring, exhausting, and frustrating.  My questions: (1) Why is iTunes asking for a password for an old account  when I changed that already? (2) What to do now - Do I sign out of iTunes, delete the account and create a new one?

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your email addresses from your post (it's not a good idea to post personal info on any public forum).
Is the old account a completely different iTunes account, or is it just a previous primary email address on the same account ? If it's a different account then all content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, so only that old account will be able to download updates to its apps.
If it's the same account, just a previous primary email address, then what id shows at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app on your phone ? You could try tapping on that and log out of it and then log back in with the updated version and see what id then shows for updates.

  • Why is my iTunes asking for me to confirm password for an ID that's not mine?

    Hi guys,
First timer here! A pretty weird but potentiallly serious issue here...
Firstly, this is not for me but to help a colleague. He left his MacBook Pro in a taxi a few weeks ago and it's since been lost, we tried using 'Find my Mac' through iCloud but it hasn't worked, I presume because the machine hasn't gone online on that user account, as it was password protected?
He's since bought himself a NEW MacBook Pro and started using it afresh, not restoring from any backup or anything (as unfortunately his TimeMachine backup was corrupted!).
Now, when using iTunes, he's being asked to 'confirm his details' of his Apple ID, however, it's showing a completely random email address - not his and not anyone he knows. Noone has owned either MacBook that he's used before him so that's not the issue, and he's only ever used his own personal Apple ID.
    My question is:
1 - how is this possible? How can iTunes ask for confirmation of details to an iTunes ID / account that has NOTHING to do with that Mac?
2 - is it possible that this strange Apple ID that the machine is asking to be confirmed is of someone that may have the old MacBook Pro?
    Thanks - appreciate the help!
    Alex

I only know a little about this subject.
What OS version was the lost Mac running?  "Find My Mac" is only a feature with Lion, and of course had to be activated.
I don't know about newer MacOS but on older versions it was a relatively simple manner to bypass the system level password feature if you had actual physical possession of a computer.  There were several different levels on which you could enable passwords, including the stronger firmware or EFI password which I believe required re-setting at an Apple repair center.
Don't forget that once you have physical possession of a computer you can do all kinds of things such as swapping out drives and using his drive in another computer, simply wiping the old one.  I don't know how AppleID works but presumably it has some way of detecting specific hardware identity in order to use authorization for things such as movies.  I don't know how this would get tied up in what you have observed.
Your friend should probably re-set passwords on any accounts that use them and monitor his/her credit card.

It's a 64G ipod touch and was fine till Apple told me to upgrade to ios 6.  Now most of my apps crash, my music won't play and I just get a white screen when I hit Music.
When I try to sync to itunes it acts like it's going to sync and appears to recognize the ipod, but it's grayed out and has an update circle by it that spins for a while until itunes eventually freezes alltogether.  Is there a  way to go back to ios 5 after a erase and reset?

First, you do not have a 3G if you could upgrade it to 6.1.3, because 4.2.1 is the last version that will work on the 3G. So you either have a 3GS or you somehow hacked the phone to install an incompatible version. You can check the model you have by entering your serial number here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
Assuming you have a 3GS the most likely reason for your problem is you have a gray market phone that was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it. When you upgraded it you removed the hack, so the phone is now locked to its original carrier.
