ITunes at home and at work

I was recently assigned a state issued iPad for work. I downloaded iTunes to my work computer to update the iPad. I have an iPhone that I plug in to the same computer during the day to charge it but have not backed it up to the work computer. Since then, my iPhone will not back up to my home computer via iTunes. I have messed with iTunes and when you drop the "File list" down and mouse over decives, everything is grayed out and it will not let me choose anything. iTunes has also stopped automatically backing up and doesn't give me the option on the right side to click on "iPhone". How can I fix this?
Thank you in advance!

Sorry, maybe I have made it too complicated, here is the article on how to back up:

How do I keep the files from both on my ipod. I have the new 60 video Ipod and I keep losing stuff when i log on the different computors.
    Thanks

You need to switch the iPod to manual update.
1.) Connect to one of the machines
    2.) Open preferences
    3.) Select iPod
4.) Choose "manually manage songs & playlists"

I have digital copies of movies on my itunes at home and used cloud to download on itunes at work but can t find them

Are they gone completely from the computer, or just no longer in the library? Check your movie media folder.
If your'e in the USA you can download some movies a second time, but not all (studio dependent).  You should always back up all media.

  • Syncing iTunes Library on Portable Hard Drive at Home and at Work

I have my iTunes Library (including my music, videos, ringtones, podcasts and audiobooks) stored on a portable drive so that I can play my music at home and at work. Now I have a 3G iPhone and synching is causing me problems.
I have always manually copied and deleted music and videos from my iPods because I like that level of control. But the iPhone isn't as intuitive. I turned off syncing on my iPhone for everything but the Apps (because I cannot drag and drop them onto my iPhone in the Devices list of iTunes). And those I am syncing manually by telling iTunes to sync the Apps when I click the sync button (this is the one located on the Applications screen when I choose my iPhone in the devices list).
But today I am at work and I am being told that I am not authorized to use this iPhone on this computer so I cannot sync my Apps. Well, it's the exact same iTunes library. Why is this an issue? I sometimes need to adjust or copy things on my iPhone in two locations. What's the big deal?
A second problem is my Podcasts. For some reason, I cannot copy my Podcasts to my iPhone easily. I have many Podcasts that I collect in my iTunes library and I occasionally want to copy select ones to my iPhone. With an iPod, I'd just copy it over and it would appear in a list of Podcasts. With my iPhone, I have to copy the file to a playlist on my iPhone, and the Podcast doesn't show up in the list of Podcasts underneath my iPhone device. They don't even show up in the list of Music under my iPhone device. I am not even sure I am really deleting the files once I delete them from the playlist on my iPhone. They disappear, but I don't know if I am getting that space back because they aren't listed anywhere else on my iPhone.
Sync problem three... when I try to sync my Apps, the iPhone tries to back itself up to my computer. I click the little "X" button on the iTunes display and the backup stops and the Apps start to update. But I have already deleted the iPhone from the list of "iPhones and iPods backed up to this computer" underneath the Syncing panel of the iTunes preferences and this keeps happening.
I just need my iPhone to be as easy to use as my iPod when it comes to moving content onto it. And it's not. I am forced into this synching scenario and it's not working to my satisfaction. I am feeling "Microsofted" by Apple here... as in, they seem to think they know what I want to do better than I do, and they're trying to make it "easy" for the average user at the expense of my wish for complete control. (I haven't even gotten to my horror of being forced to use iPhoto to manage my photos... I just haven't had the strength to tackle that mountain of potential issues yet... gotta work all this out first)
As a side note, if it's of any value, I have "Disable syncing for iPods and iPhone" turned ON in my iTunes preferences, "Sync only checked songs and videos" turned OFF on my iPhone splash screen, and "Manually manage music and videos" turned ON on my iPhone splash screen.
    Helllllllllp!
    Thank you.

You must maintain the actual library files separately on the Mac and PC as they are different formats, and use different file paths for each song.
That is what I was hoping to avoid. That means I would not be able to sync my iPhone on both machines. It also means I would have to sync my libraries on a regular basis.
My primary goal was to be able to put a movie or two and/or a couple of training videos on the iPhone and when I get through them, be able to update the iPhone with new ones to use on the flight back home.
What about keeping the library files for both machines on the external drive, in addition to the actual library. Would that solve my problem?

  • ITunes at home and work

Is it possible to purchase songs through iTunes on 2 different pcs but store them on one ipod?
I have iTunes at home and recently installed it at work. I have managed to upload my ipod library onto iTunes on my work pc however, it won't upload the tracks that I purchased from my home pc. Is there any way around this?
    Thanks!

Is it possible to purchase songs through iTunes on 2 different pcs but store them on one ipod?
Yes but as Deb pointed out, you cannot download purchased songs from the store 2 different times.
You simply need to copy your purchased songs from one computer to the other.
Enable the iPod for disk use, copy the purchased music to it and them Add (not import) to the other computer.

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.

    Hi,
Firstly you need to install Software and drivers for your printer on your Windows 8 machine using the following file:
       http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL30662/mp-110038-1/PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_140_408.exe
Microsoft Picture It is not compatible with Windows 8 therefore you can't use it anyway:
       http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Name=Microsof...
You can simply scan as jpg files and use them for other software.
Updated: I saw few of your posts for this same problem.

  • Why is my MacBook Air taking so long to connect to wi-fi at home and at work?

Why is my 18-month old MacBook Air taking so long to connect to wi-fi at home and at work?  Behavior started a few weeks ago.  Connection used to be acquired in about five seconds, now takes 30 or more.  Both networks WPA-2.

Reatart the router . Wait until all the lights are lit up.
    Restart the computer.
    Best.

  • I have a computer at home and at work. I want the itunes I have at home to be the same as I have at work so I only have to load songs at home put them on my  phone and they will be on my itunes at work.  How do I do that?

I have my computer at home that has itunes on it.  It is the one that I sync to my iphone.  I have a computer at work that I would like to have the same itunes on it.  How do I go about doing that?

iOS devices are designed to sync with a single computer and iTunes library.  If you attempt to change iTunes libraries, iTunes will delete all iTunes media from your device prior to syncing with the new library.
If your goal is to get your iTunes music library on your work computer, you can copy your music to an external drive, then import it to your iTunes library at work.  Another option would be to subscribe to iTunes Match, which would then allow you to sign into your iTunes Match library on your work computer and access your entire music library (up to 25,000 songs, not including songs purchased from the iTunes store) from iCloud.

  • Want to use my ipod for Mac @ home and PC @ work....

I have a Mac at home and have my ipod set up for the Mac I guess. So I brought the ipod to work today to hook it up to itunes here on my PC, but itunes says only Windows formatted ipods can be used and that I have to do a restore on my ipod to use it.
I thought you could use the ipod on multiple computers? I thought it didn't matter if it was set for Mac or PC because you could still use it on both.
Any help? I want to connect my ipod at work so I can get the music on this computer. Thanks!!

Windows computers cannot read the file format the iPods are in when they are formatted for Mac use. However, Macs can read the Fat32 file format that the iPods go in when they are formatted for Windows.
To use the iPod with both computers, you'll have to first restore the iPod on your Windows computer (putting the iPod into Windows format).
The only downside is if there is an iPod software update, you won't be able to install that to the iPod from the Mac, just from Windows computers.

  • 2 different itunes between home and office

Background: I use my Dell laptop for home and office use. I do not log in at home, but i work i log in with a name and password.
While i'm home and using the laptop, i can install and download music, podcasts, etc......
When i'm at work and connected to the server, i get a TOTALLY DIFFERENT itunes program to pop up. It doesnt show anything i've downloaded at home, and vice versa. I've completely deleted iTunes ( or so i think ) and reinstalled while AT HOME, but when i open it while at work, it comes back up with all the previous settings and stuff i thought i deleted when i re-installed the program.
Can anyone advise why i have 2 different itunes ? and how do i deleted EVERYTHING associated with it, so i can try to install one universal program accesible from home and the office.
It ***** if i download stuff at home, and then just want to load it onto the iPod while at work.
Please help with any and all advice.

    .

iTunes places its files in the profile folder of the logged on user. Though you say you do not log in when at home, Windows still recognizes a default user. If there is no password associated with this user, Windows automatically logs you on. The reason you have two different iTunes libraries is a unique library is created for your "work user" and your "home user". It is all the same iTunes, just different libraries. What you need to do is create a shared library that both users can access.
If you do not mind starting from scratch you can create an iTunes library that resides somewhere other than your Windows profile folder. Start by creating a folder directly underneath C: and call it something like "My_iTunes". Next, copy the folder that contains all of your music files to your newly created folder. Now, start iTunes with the Shift key depressed. When prompted, create a new library (browse to the "My iTunes" folder you just created). When the new, blank library is open, you can re-import all of your music into the new library.
When you are using the laptop at the other location, start iTunes with the Shift key depressed, but this time click the button "Choose Library". Browse to the folder you created above and highlight the file "iTunes Library.itl". You will now be using the same library at work and at home.
Post any questions if any of these steps are unclear.

  • ITunes 10.7 and AS working perfectly on Mavericks! But now I want to add an iPod-

Somehow— I don't know how or why— my computer running Mavericks is completely happy with iTunes 10.7 installed, and the App Store apparently works perfectly! I'm very, very happy about this (and happy with Apple lately for other reasons) because I don't like iTunes 11.
My question is, in previous installations neither the App Store nor my 2011 iPod Touch would work under iTunes 10.7 and Mavericks, and I had always assumed they were probably broken for the same various reasons (e.g., the CoreFP.framework, etc.). Since the App Store suddenly works on this new installation despite having iTunes 10.7, will adding my iPod 1) work also, 2) work also but screw something up such as the App Store, 3) not work, or 4) not work and screw up the App Store. Currently, I use a different ancient laptop to sync with and I ferry content over as I need to— I would truly be in heaven if I could use it with the new computer, but I absolutely don't want to risk losing the perfection I now have… I'd rather have this crippled, complicated iPod problem instead.
In addition, I'd be perfectly happy with reverting my iPod system software back to whatever best version that will let me do this, assuming that's even possible. If this approach is a good idea, what ios system version do I want (that is happy with 10.7)
    Thank you

You, the computer operator, are the main user of iTunes. You can sync some or all of your library to as many devices as you have. Each can have different selections of content.

  • Iphone and ipod losing sync with shared itunes library - home sharing not working

I hope this can help some people who have had problems with syncing their IOS devices to their shared itunes library.
Having had a lot of trouble with syncing and sharing my itunes libraries from two PC's to an iphone 4 and 4S via "itunes home sharing", I decided to try and find a solution using typical search engine search phrases. I found a number of issues similar to mine that pointed toward local network protocols such as media serving, and the ability or lack of ability to use these protocols by DSL routers.
My solution was simple, change the DSL router. My ISP supplied DSL router was the problem, not being able to identify that the PC's hosting my itunes libraries become media servers when itunes home sharing is switched on. My DSL box is a Tesco Broadband branded/firmware Thomson TG580. As a test I tried out a box from my previous supplier, an O2 branded/firmware Thomson/Technicolor TG582n. Although this wont work with my ISP connection, it will work as a wirless/wired router. As soon as I connected this all together, it worked first time without any hassle. I was mirroring my shared HD videos via the itunes home shared library to my 4S perfectly.
I know this may not help most people, but if you have the chance to test another wireless router, give it a go. Having had a good look, I can't find an Apple compatibility list. Maybe this is something they could do, or maybe someone can point out a site that may have this info?
I am by no means an Apple Fanboy, but I have to say that a lot of the complaints about the home sharing between itunes, ipods, iphones, Apple TV etc. may simply be the router and not itunes or the IOS devices.
My setup is PC's running the latest itunes with Win 7 32 & 64 bit and my IOS devices on 6, I also tested an iphone 4 on IOS 5 that worked perfectly. My 4S is now a perfect HDMI media player/streamer for my itunes music and videos encoded to H.264 using Handbrake.

Assuimg you have the latest ATV firmware, at the bottom of the general settings menu on your apple TV there is an option to reset your apple TV. Try that and then reset it up back on your network.
Before testing ensure the correct time/date/nearest City is setup in the ATV settings and re-enter your apple ID/password and turn on home sharing. You can connect to your network either via wifi or cable and see if it then works.
Resetting the ATV and then checking and re-entering all my settings worked for me.
I guess if not, then the next step is to disable any firewall on your PC and see if that works after the PC is rebooted.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes on Home and Work Computers

I'm ripping all of my cd's onto my home Mac. I want to copy the same music onto my Mac at work. I want to keep the play counts, ratings, and everything the same on both computers. Can I just simply copy both library files onto a small portable drive and paste them into the iTunes folder overwriting the library files on my work computer and vice versa to keep everything in sync? Will this cause problems? These two Macs are not networked and I don't have a .Mac account.

*You're saying to carry all of the music (the whole iTunes folder) on the small external hd and transport it back and forth pointing each iTunes to it to play the music?*
Yes, you could do it this way.
    Here's a 250GB, external FireWire drive for $99. -> CompUSA - AcomData E5 250GB Hard Drive 7200RPM, External, 8MB Cache, Firewire 400
Will this keep up with all the play counts, etc.?
You would be using the exact same iTunes library file on both computers, so yes, it would be the same on both.

  • Constant need to reboot AppleTV *AND* restart iTunes for Home Sharing to work

    Environment:
    iTunes Host Computer:
AppleTV's: Three. All Model A1469, All currently running latest version of OS, [7.1 (7003)]
Network: Wired Ethernet (1000MB) using three D-Link Green DSG-1008G dumb routers, one Apple Airport Extreme (running 7.6.4), and one  AT&T DSL Gateway directly connected to the Airport Extreme WAN port.
Situation: Since the latest updates to OS 7 on the AppleTV, and 10.10 - Yosemite on the iTunes Host Computer, I've had issues with Home Sharing NOT being able to hold a connection between the AppleTV and the iTunes Host computer. This disconnect shows on up as a "...turn on home sharing in iTunes..." screen on the AppleTVs. (I should also note that you can't access Home Sharing during this interruption via another computer either. I've tried this, thinking it was an issue with the AppleTV, however, the computer just will not see the Home Share. Once iTunes is restarted, the Home Share shows up in the iTunes shared list.)
I actually think there are TWO problems here; 1) the AppleTV loss of connection to the Home Share, 2) The need to refresh the iTunes Home Share.
Problem 1 is demonstrated by this example: IF I restart iTunes, then wake an AppleTV to view content, I get the "...turn on Home Sharing..." screen. If, however, I do nothing else BUT reset the AppleTV, the Home Share works perfectly.
Problem 2 is demonstrated by this example: IF I wake an AppleTV, then reset that same AppleTV without restarting iTunes on the host computer, I get the "...turn on Home Sharing..." screen.
The ONLY way I don't get the "...turn on Home Sharing..." screen is when I reset the AppleTV, AND restart iTunes. Somehow I don't think this is the way this should be working.
NOTE: In all of these scenarios, I've never had to re-login to Home Sharing on the iTune host. The credentials are working.
NOTE 2: I've completed ALL of the Apple recommended troubleshooting steps, and a good number of other ones suggested by this forum, including renaming the host computer, changing the Home Share Name, reissuing IP addresses, rewiring the network, opening or shutting off of all firewalls, etc.
Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
