Itunes authorization and deauthorization

I got a new PC (HP) with Windows 7 on it and plugged in my iphone to sync, but keep getting the error message that "this computer is no longer authorized for applications on the iphone." So I select authorize, and it says I have 5 computers authorized and no room for more. I only have itunes and my songs on 2 computers, the old and new, so not sure why I get this error. I tried to deauthorize my PC, close out and reauthorize, but I get the same error. Any suggestions?

Take a look at this Apple support article; it may help:
One computer using multiple iTunes Store authorizations
If not, there will be a button in your iTunes Store account information that will allow you to deauthorize all systems associated with that account. Log into your Store account and you should see it. You can then reauthorize the computers you're using now.
Regards.

  • Authorization and deauthorization problems from Migration Assistant?

I purchased a new MacBook Pro and used Migration Assistant to transfer everything from my old powerbook G4 running 10.4.6. The transfer was super smooth and everything is in its place. The only problem I'm having is with authorization and deauthorization and both computers.
My new computer prompts me for my login and password every time I click on a song I purchased in iTunes. It then proceeds to tell me that this computer has been been authorized and that 2 of 5 computers are currently authorized. The problem is when the authorization process is finished the song never plays so I click on it again and I get the same prompt for authorizing the computer again. It is the quintissential infinte loop and it happens on any song that I click on.
Problem two is deauthorization on the old computer. It is a reverse of the problem above. I go to deauthorize the computer and get the same prompt. I put in my log and pass and then I'm told that the computer has been deauthorized. The problem is that when I go to click on a song I purchased it still plays when it should not because the computer has been deauthorized.
My only guess is that something happened in the process of using migration assisant. I've tried throwing out the iTunes prefs but that doesnt work. I'd greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 Installer asks me to unistall iTunes 9 and deauthorize computer..

    Hi everyone!
Trying to do the migration from Windows Vista to 7 and the setup program tells me I have to unistall (among other software) iTunes 9 and deauthorize my computer before installation of Windows 7. Has anyone received the same message and if so what do I suppose to do with my library and how long will I have to wait for a compatible version? I tried looking at different sites but so far haven't found an official estatement from Apple....

I have recently went from Windows Vista to Windows 7, and the installer gave me the same warning: Deauthorize iTunes before upgrading to Windows 7. I do not know why this is, however, I did just that, and the upgrade went extremely smooth for me. After the upgrade, I went back to iTunes and reauthorized iTunes and media files played wonderfully.
As long as you backed up your files (this is EXTREMELY recommended when doing any type of upgrade or OS install), your media should be safe.

  • Authorize and Deauthorize a computer

    Hi,
I had another computer authorized to play media I downloaded from the iTunes Store. That computer died
When I authorized this computer it said using 3 of 5 authorizations (My work computer is authorized.)
Is there any way to deauthorize the dead computer and recover that slot?
    Thanks...

  • ITunes authorization and song selection/playback issues

I use my computer (macbook air) and iTunes for work (I am an itinerant elem. music teacher).  The computer does not have a disc drive, so I import music from CDs and use iTunes match to transfer tracks to my laptop or iPod.
I'm having a few issues with iTunes (11.0.5) that have been occuring recently.
    1) I play a song from a playlist with no issues, then play the same song later (sometimes just minutes later) and receive a prompt saying I am not authorized on this computer to play that song and that song only.  Entering my ID and password gets rid of the prompt, but causes iTunes to freeze (I usually force quit and restart the program, which sometimes fixes the problem and sometimes doesn't).  I use iTunes match on this computer, but it still allows me to play other songs from the cloud while one song has authorization issues.
    2) When searching for a song using the iTunes search bar I used to be able to double click on the matching items without pressing enter (as I type in the search query it brings up options, which I can then double-click to play without completing the search).  Lately, when double-clicking on those songs they either don't play at all, or an entirely different piece of music will play.  If I click again it will cycle to another (also wrong) piece of music.  Despite what I type in the search, the songs that play when I click are songs with trumpet in the title somewhere, with the exception of one song, which is a trumpet sonata but does not say trumpet in the title or description.  When I drag the song from the search menu to a playlist and click on it the correct song will play.
    3) Some songs will refuse to play (iTunes claims that it is unable to find these songs).  I usually re-import from a CD when this occurs, which usually fixes the problem, but sometimes not.
    4) Some songs were imported but do not exist in my library.  Most of these songs are accompaniment versions of other songs (background track only, with no vocals).  They have the same title as their counterpart, with "acc" added at the end.  At first I thought I simply neglected to import these tracks, but when I try to import just the ones I need they still disappear and I am unable to search for them by title (using the search bar) or by looking up their album.
    5) Itunes will sometimes be unable to access tracks stored in the cloud, despite the computer having a strong internet connection.  I can download songs from the cloud using iTunes match, but this becomes problematic as I use more songs than I have room for on this (school-issued) computer.  I really don't want to spend time downloading and subsequently deleting files every week.

my home computer, where my library is stored, is running XP and it is not compatible with iMatch!
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/:
    iTunes 10.5 system requirements, Windows
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, or 32-bit editions of Windows 7
I'm not sure how you're testing this with iMatch since Apple's site says it is not available yet, and there's no mention of any different system requirements (or any system requirements for that matter).
I don't know about the mp3 problem.  It might help if you provided a link to specific examples others could test.  I would think if this was a common issue with old mp3s there would have been 100,000 posts in this thread since it was started a month ago.

  • Itunes authorization and giftcard

If I authorize my account on my current computer I am using, then authorize it on another, and then redeem a £15 card will I be able to use, for example, if i bought a game with this card, would I be able to use this one games on two ipods. Each being connected to a different computer

would I be able to use this one games on two ipods
Yes, but you will need to transfer the purchased item to the other computer manually, and then drag it into the open iTunes window. Except for applications, one purchase only entitles you to one download.

  • Authorize and Deauthorize  computer...

I transfered my itunes music to a new computer with Windows vista...and itunes will not play my purchased music...it keeps telling me I need to authorize it...and I do...and it still will not play...I deauthorized it and it still will not play my purchased songs...I'm getting pretty fed up with having go to through all the hassle to play songs I paid for. Anyone know what needs to happen here? I've read all the help sites and don't see anyhting that helps...
    jackson

I was helping a friend set up a new machine with Vista (Home Edition), and ran into the problem of not being able to play any of her purchased music.
I tried the solution of running iTunes as administrator (Programs, iTunes, right-click, run as administrator) and re-authorizing. It wouldn't take. I tried it several times, and although it said it authorized each time, the music still wouldn't play (or sync to an iPod).
Finally, we tried something unusual (sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but it was new to me). She had AOL on this machine, and whenever the Apple login popped up, the AOL login was embedded into the same window and selected as the default. I kept selecting the Apple logo each time we logged in, but it turns out that if you leave AOL selected (completely anti-intuitive), you can login to iTunes and THEN the authorization takes. Go figure.
So if any of you have the AOL selected as default when you try to login to iTunes, try leaving it selected (instead of selecting the Apple logo), and your authorization problem just might be solved.

After numerous storms Iv'e had to replace internal power suppliers, somecases whole (used) pcs, in trying to replace Music content it does not show my purchaces, but it made sure I had to authorize the used pcs I had to buy now I still must buy more (daughters & sons & Mom) now what do I do since Im out of authorzations? and the missing media? Once before I made a whole album purchace only to find they charged me , downloaded the album with songs but no sound, I was able to call them, they walked me through the process and it was resolved. now I can't talk to anyone live, and my problems are not identified for solutions. any suggestions would be appreiciated, the one site I did come across said there were many issues mainly incompatible bit software and wanted to charge me 50.00 with no guarenty. .50.00 US$   I don't have that kind of money Im on Soc Sec SDI  Hence the used equiptment. any way Sorry for bending your ears      Please any solutions let me know Thanks  John     you could always get in touch  by Judge722@aol

I'm not suggesting any of this as a model, and your needs are different than mine.
    1) Go to Preferences -> Audio.  Under "Default Audio Tracks", Set "Mono Media: Mono".  Set "Stereo Media: Mono"  (Choices from the pull-down for both are Use File, Mono, Stereo, 5.1, Adaptive)
You can change these, but I don't. I am using both mono and stereo tracks. I set up a custom sequence with the particular combination of stereo and mono tracks I want.
    2) Set audio for clips by selecting all clips and going to Modify Clip -> Audio Channels Tab.  Under "Number of Audio Tracks" there should be a "1".  Under Channel Format it should read "Stereo".
I am not sending the audio to anyone else to edit further. I am doing a final stereo mix. If camera one is set up to record 2 mikes as a stereo track, then I leave that unchanged and put it onto a stereo track. If camera two is set up to record one mike onto channel 1 as ambient sound and channel 2 is a mono feed from a sound board, then I modify those clips as Preset Mono, 2 audio tracks, Channel format Mono, and that puts the left source channel (or whichever I choose) onto Audio track 1, channel 1 (of one), and right source channel onto audio track 2, channel 1.
    4) Delete all the existing audio tracks in the sequence and replace them all with mono tracks, so all tracks in the sequence are mono.
I modify the tracks while creating the sequence, and ultimately use a custom sequence.
Under my Effects Controls panel there is only Channel Volume, and nowhere to adjust the pan.
I'm using the mixer, not the effects control panel.

  • HT1420 Why does the authorize and deauthorize portion of my account always say I have 5 computers associated with the account while I only have 3?  No matter what I do I cannot correct the problem.

    Help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You may have authorised some of them twice, you could always try de-authorising them multiple times or just de-authorise them all.
Please note however, you are only permitted to do this once in each 12 month period, therefore you would be better de-authorising your computers before you lose access to them. you can do this from the 'Store' menu in iTunes.

  • Can't Authorize or Deauthorize Itunes on Macbook

Okay, I thought I would change my Macbook's name from my full name to something else. I changed it in 2 places on the computer and thought everything was fine. Then when I synced my Ipod Touch everything synced fine except it removed all of the applications and a popup said I was not authorized to use them on this computer. They are in a folder on the computer under Itunes. I changed the name of the computer back to the original name, have repaired permissions on the Macbook and restarted the computer but it still won't work. I have tried to Authorize and Deauthorize the computer through Itunes but I get another popup saying that the directory can not be found or has a permission error and to fix the permissions or deauthorize the computer.
I have no problem connecting to the Itunes store.
What do I need to do to fix this?

I downloaded and reinstalled Itunes and was able to authorize the computer again with Itunes only showing 1 computer authorized. I don't know what happened but was glad it worked and none of my music, apps or anything else was lost.

  • How can I make iTunes authorize Audible files?

I downloaded an audio book from Audible.com to my desktop computer at home.  Now I am traveling, using my wife's MBP, and have my iTunes library with me on an external drive. iTunes is pointed at that library and open.  I am trying to sync my iPod Touch and in the books seciton, I have specified the audio books to be copied onot my iPod, but I get the message that “some of the Audible files were not authorized to be used on this computer.”  How can I overcome this?

  • ITunes Authorization on Bootcamp

For some reason, even though this is technically the same computer, iTunes needs to be authorized on Windows 7 Bootcamp, even though it is already authorized on Mac OS X. I don't use Windows 7 often, only for a few games that they don't make for OS X. However, it is highly annoying to have to use up all your authorizations on just one computer. Especially considering I'm at school and I've got computers back at home that are authorized, so it's not like I can just unauthorize them, they have to be authorized.

I think that my Mac Pro is uniquely identifiable** to iTunes
As I said previously, to the iTunes server, it's two _instances of the *+iTunes app*+_: one on OSX and another on Windows. It is no different than if the app were running on two separate computers. If you want Apple to modify the way the iTunes authorization system works, let them know your thoughts on the feedback page I linked to previously.
...but if disk failure takes out 2 Windows and 1 Mac OS
Since you are relying on _+one hard drive+_ for the multiple "computers", this makes backups that much more important.
Forgetting, or not even knowing that disable account must be done before a reinstall is necessary
is not excuseable. I am at 5 of 5 now and expect to lose iTunes access (through no fault of my own) in the near future, to the music that I paid for.
You can deauthorize all computers when you reach the limit of 5, even if your don't have access to the original computers. (i.e.: hard drive failure.)
[About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420]
So if you have a proper backup of your iTunes library (or libraries), then even a full disk failure is not the end of the world. Just deauthorize all, if necessary. Not the most elegant method, but far from the doom-and-gloom that you're making it into. The important thing is *+_HAVE A PROPER BACKUP OF YOUR ITUNES LIBRARY!!+_* For example:
[iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751]
