ITunes authorization problem

I have been unable to play some songs and all of my audiobooks purchased from iTunes. Apple support has been terrible.
I just downloaded iTunes 7.0.2 but it did not help.
Apple - you have a serious problem here!!!
This is becoming a very expensive and aggravating problem. I've been a ig Apple/iMac fan for years, but I am very unhappy with this lousy product and their inability/unwillingness to resolve the issue.

hi~
i had the same problem, since 7.0.1 update, I could not play some 'free songs i had downloaded' from iTunes Store....
then i updated 7.0.2 and the problem was worse...
then i decided to "de-authorize" my machine and 'authorize' again...
problem solved......
donno if u might have it solved by doing so....

  • ITunes authorization problems won't let me sync apps

The last few times I've tried to sync my iPod all apps are removed and will not be synced to the iPod because I am "not authorized to play them on this computer." I do, though, have my iMac authorized with both of my iTunes Store accounts. Reauthorizing them does not work, nor does restoring the iPod. What am I supposed to do to get my apps to sync?

I am having the same problem popping up with "apps": Only mine is from an old account I had 3 years that hasn't been used for 4 years. It prompts me to authorize my computer to this old account which doesn't even exist... the message reads:
"This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed the iPhone "my iphone". Would you like to authorize this computer?"
When I enter current account info it tells me that this computer is already authorized and when I try to sync again it immediately pops up the same message above.
This only started happening after downloading and installing iTunes 8.1.1
    Any Help??

  • 1 computer, 3 Mac OS user accounts, iTunes account for each Mac OS user, authorization problems

We have 4 computers for 3 people in our household: 1 iMac (recently purchased), 1 MacBook Pro, and 2 MacBooks. We were previously running off of just the MacBooks (1 for each person), but we decided to buy the iMac and use it as a hub for all of our pictures, music, movies, etc. We were sold on this idea after learning about the "Automatic Downloads" feature, where all content would 'just sync'. We each have a separate Mac OS user account on the iMac, with our own separate content libraries. We each have a separate iTunes/AppStore account. It seems like a good idea until...
When I tried to turn on Automatic Downloads in iTunes on my iMac, I got this message: "You can auto-download purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 87 days". I tried to turn on Automatic Downloads on my MacBook Pro, when I got this message: "You can auto-download purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 90 days". I did not necessarily want to download the apps/music/books to this computer anyways, as the reason we bought the iMac was to serve as a hub for all of this content, but it was still frustrating to see that message.
I have tried everything suggested on the authorization troubleshooting pages and forums (e.g., authorizing, de-authorizing and de-athourizing all, and reauthorizing), but I have not had any success. I have contacted Apple several times, but I get tips on how to ensure that I have the most up-to-date version of iTunes on my computer, or how to manually download pre-purchased content. I will not begin to explain how frustrating these low-level responses are when the issue is much larger.
I have a few theories of why this is happening, one of which is that we will only be able to authorize one of the users iTunes accounts to this iMac (despite the fact that we are using separate Mac OS user accounts). This may be the case if iTunes authorization identifies or registers the computer based on its serial number (or some other unique identifier), rather than the Mac OS user account. If that is the case, then I suspect that purchasing this iMac as an automatic download hub for 3 separate Mac OS users was pointless, and I will gleefully warn anyone away from trying to do that.
So my question(s) read(s): How does iTunes account authorization identify/register with the computer? Is it authorized to the computer serial number, or could it be authorized to a Mac OS user account?
However, if my above theory is true, then my question is: Do I have any other options?
    Thanks!

I just had this problem because I logged into a friend's account on the computer I'm on now, and used the Previous Purchases feature. Well, that in turn deactived my use of the iCloud and iTunes Match on this computer when I signed back into my personal iTunes account. iTunes Support was no help, they just gave me a scripted response I would find online myself. Tried many different things, but what actually worked, was changing the Computer Name on this computer, and rebooting. Now, iTunes recoginzes this computer as a new device, yet, still is one of the 2 authorized computers on my iTunes account. Try changing the Computer Name on your troubled machine, then try associating it once again, see how that works out for you.

If your computer is not currently authorized to play your previous
account name's purchases, when you double-click an item you
purchased before you renamed the account, the authorization dialog
may show the old account name. If this happens, you will need to
remove the old account name from the account name field, type the
new account name, and click Authorize. This authorizes your computer
    to play the account's purchases.
If you are unsure about which account was used to purchase a
    particular item, follow these steps:
    1) Control-click (or right-click) the item in your iTunes Library.
    2) Choose Get Info from the menu that appears.
    3) Click the Summary tab. The account name will be listed on the
    right.
If you need further assistance in locating the current account name,

  • How I fixed my authorization problem

There have been many posts on the authorization problem that has cropped up since the latest update of iTunes, and there doesn't seem to be universal cure. I fought it myself for a couple of weeks, and recently fixed it on my PowerBook and thought I would share it with others.
The common theme here seems to be that it affects people who have had more than one account in iTunes. For the record, I have NEVER purchased music from the iTMS using a different account, so I was confused as to why this was happening to me.
I have two Macs in play here: an older eMac at home and a PowerBook G4. My initial iTunes library started on the eMac, and then I moved it to my PowerBook a little over a year ago when I bought it. I purchased music from the iTMS on both Macs, using the exact same account.
When I upgraded iTunes on my PowerBook, I reauthorized using my only account, and the music that I had purchased since I transfered my library worked just fine. The music that I had purchased on my eMac simply would not authorize!
It dawned on me yesterday that I setup a .mac account on my PowerBook several months ago, although I never used it in the iTMS and I never used it on the eMac at home. I also realized that I had NOT run iTunes on the eMac since the most recent upgrade.
I installed the iTunes upgrade on my eMac, and proceeded to authorize it with my only known iTMS account. No issues, and all purchased music was auhtorized, including songs that would not play on my PowerBook.
On my PowerBook, I decided to authorize using my .mac username and password, even though I have NEVER used it to purchase music. I didn't even own that account when the music files in question were purchased. As I suspected though, the authorization went through and I can now play all of my purchased music from iTMS.
When I try to step through this logically, it makes my head hurt. There is definitely a major problem with Apple's DRM authorization relationship somewhere, as there should be no reason at ALL for any of my music to require my .mac account.
I don't know if this will help anyone, but if you're struggling with it and you have a .mac account, give it a shot and it might work.

The fact that you saw no glitches while running Logic before applying the update means almost nothing because that uses only a small subset of system resources. Far more significant is that Safe Mode restored some missing functionality: because it disables non-essential items like user fonts, third party drivers, & so on, it points to problems in those areas.
Equally significant, the fact that there are relatively few reports of post-update problems among the several million Snow Leopard users points away from the update itself as the cause of your problems.
Separate & apart from that, it so happens that I'm a sound engineer/system designer/board operator with nearly 40 years of professional touring experience. FWIW, I never have & never will update the software of any system I must rely on professionally (whether it is running on a Mac, a PC, or dedicated hardware) unless & until I can thoroughly test it first and I have a trustworthy backup/recursion strategy to fall back on in case of problems.
I strongly suggest you learn from your unpleasant experience & do the same. I have had far fewer problems with Macs than with PC's, but nothing is 100% reliable to begin with. Changing the OS software part way through the tour is just asking for trouble, no matter how reliable that has been in the past. Even if the budget allows for nothing better than a stack of burned CD's & a couple of consumer grade CD players, no professional tour can afford to be without some fallback strategy in place. That should be self-evident & require no warning from Apple or anybody else.

  • ATV2 "authorization" problem

So, I purchased an ATV2 at Heathrpw airport before I left UK as well as a cheap (£14.95) HDMI cable.
I wanted to use the ATV2 in my home in Switzerland and purchased a Sony Bravia TV to watch it on.
    1. My first problem, when streaming content from my iTunes is that the ATV2 sometimes gets "disconnected" from the television, i.e. I see the blnk HDMI1 screen for a split second, then it reconnects.
    2. Second problem is that after about 15 minutes of watching anything on my ATV2, the picture turns to a combination of pink and blue, the picture is still visible but i have never seens anything like this.
    3. third and most annoying problem: I rented a movie directly from ATV2 last night (with my UK iTunes account), paid for it, and when it pops up on the screen saying it is ready to be watched, I pressed play but it loads, then authorizes and then a message appears that "this device is not authorized to play this content".
I thought that perhaps this was one movie, so I rented a second one. When that didnt work, I figured it may be because I am in Switzerland and using a UK iTunes account, so I logged into my swiss one and rented something else. To no avail!
*Things I have done to try and fix the problems*
    1. I have authorized and de-authorized my computer
    2. I have reset the ATV2 to its factory settings
    3. I have tried Swiss as well as UK iTunes accounts to rent movies
This is increedibly frustrating and I hope someone can help! Thank you in advance!

I too got an ATV 2 very recently. From my iMac I can order movies and watch them (as well as music, etc.). From my MacBook Pro I can do all except stream movies. Every time I try something new on the MacBook Pro (I keep buying the same two movies, so "they" know I am sincere), I get authorization problems.
    1. REMOTE: I can preview but not watch ATV 2 movies using the remote: "your apple tv is not authorized to play this content."
    2. MACBOOK PRO: I cannot use my macbook pro itunes to order and watch movies (music yes, movies no): "Authorization is required..." even though I have authorized/reauthorized the laptop 10 times. And I have reset/restored ATV 2.
    3. IMAC: I can use my iMac itunes to order movies. I then choose that computer on the ATV 2 screen and movies stream.

    com.apple.iLife08.plist
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    trash both .plists ...

  • IDVD-Error-itunes authorization

I have an odd problem that I never had before. I made a slideshow of old slides on my parents' iMac. I made a quicktime file and started burning it onto dvds with iDVD.
I decided to put the file onto my laptop as well so I can burn twice as many DVD's (they are for gifts for family).
However, when I use put create an iDVD project on my laptop, I get this message from itunes saying I am not authorized to use this video. When I go into iTunes to authorize, the message is still there in iDVD.
It still lets me preview the DVD and it plays fine so I tried to burn it but it gives me an error. Why the heck does itunes think it claim my video that I made?
    Any suggestions?

I suspect the disc image proposal won't solve the iTunes re athorization issue. But if it does work, please let us know.
The way I work around iTunes authorization, is to first make a CD of that audio I wish to use and then import as an aiff into iMovie or iDvd (otherwise you may have the very same issue arise each time you attempt to play it on a different laptop (other than the one it was originally authored on).
    Good luck on this!

  • Switched from Windows to MAC Itunes purchase problems

    Greetings all -
I transferred from a PC to an imac, with a new ipod as well. The transition of all my music went smooth, however there are about 29 tracks (out of 100) that i purchased through itunes that will not play. There are plenty of tracks that i purchased that play without any problems. It keeps asking me to authorize my mac. Which i've done, many times, when i click play, it asks me to authorize the computer again. What gives?
    Please help.
    thanks

Is it possible that these songs were purchased with a different iTunes account, that your computer has not been authorized for?
If you continue to have authorization problems you may want to email the iTunes store support, as they're really the only people who have access to your account information, and may be able to get a better understanding of the complete issue. You can use a form on this page to e-mail them:

  • Upgrade authorization problems

I've upgraded to 7 and itunes is telling me that I don't have access to 350+ songs due to authorization problems. These are all songs that I've purchanced on the same computer that I've upgraded. They are counting this as a compter transfer? I don't want to lose the rights to the songs that I've paid for because I've upgraded the media player! Any help here? I hope that there is an easy fix to this.
    Thanks.

I have finally solved the problem myself. iTunes email support suggested that I rename my /Library/Preferences/SystemPreferences folder and reboot. The idea being that the error was a network problem and the reboot would repopulate the defunct SystemPreferences folder. Of course this will hose all of your network settings as well. Unfortunately my SystemPreference folder didn't repopulate correctly. I was left without access to the AirPort and no way to reconfigure it through the GUI. This is where iTunes support pawned me off on applecare, who was also unable to resolve the problem. They wanted me to mail them my macbook and wait 7 days for them to have a "product specialist" reinstall the OS. So, I reinstalled the OS myself. No luck. Having saved the old SystemPreference folder I began swapping out some of the old files for new, eventually finding a combination that allowed for iTunes to authorize purchases and the AirPort to be configurable. In the process I learned a bit about the .plist configuration files OSX uses. If you have the same problem I did, save your old preferences.plist file and make certain the new airport.plist points to the correct alphanumeric identifier for your airport.

  • HT1420 Possibility to use 1 Computer - configured with 2 user accounts - each account uses a different Apple-ID for iTunes authorization ?

I wonder if it is possible to use 1 Computer (Macbook Pro)
    - configured with 2 (ore even more) user accounts (i.e. me + my kid)
    - and each user account has a different Apple-ID (account) for iTunes purchases & iTunes authorization ?
I woud think that is fine in terms of the underlying license agreement refereing to re-download purchased movies, shows, apps, etc.
However, it seams that there is that miraculous 90 days restriction, which I don't understand, and which allows me only to "authorise" the Computer under one or the other account. The switch is unfortunatelly only possible every 90 days ?!?
    Thanks anybody for help
    Oliver

The 90 day association doesn't stop you authorising an account, it only stops you from using another account for iTunes Match or automatic downloads or redownloading its past purchases : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627
There are a few methods listed on this page for how you could do it e.g. multiple user acounts, same iTunes but you having separate playlists, separate iTunes libraries : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495

  • Can't download music - seems to be an iTunes Match problem

I have iTunes Match activated, which is working fine on my iPad and iPhone.  However I cannot download purchased music onto the iMac.
In my household there is a shared iMac and each user has a different login & password.  Only I know my login password.  I have been using iTunes successfully on it for years, and have been using iTunes successfully for about 6 months now.  Auto-download has been disabled for several months now because I don't want everything downloaded automatically.  All has been fine until about a fortnight ago when the iMac stopped downloading newly purchased music whenever I clicked the little iCloud icon.  This is for music that I have successfully purchased and downloaded on my iPhone whilst at work, and now want to listen to at home.  Whenever I click the iCloud icon to download the new song I get an error message telling me that the computer is already associated with an Apple ID, and I have to wait 54 days etc to sign in with a new Apple ID.  However I'm certain no other Apple ID has been used with my account - when I go to the Store menu it is showing my current and correct Apple ID.
The most telling proof that my Apple ID is correct on both iMac and iPhone (and iPad as well) is that when I plug the iPhone into the iMac, the new music syncs across EXACTLY as it should - and it can then be played without problems.  Both the phone and the computer are correctly logged in to the same Apple ID, which is the same Apple ID that I use for iTunes Match.  Also when I click Store -> Update iTunes Match there appears to be no Apple ID conflict.
Obviously this is an iTunes Match problem which I cannot resolve, can someone please provide assistance / advice.

  • Need Help...Do I have The mother of all itunes software problems???

I am in desperate need of help. I have fried three new ipod touches in two days. I Purchased a new 32GB 2d Gen ipod touch on Mon. 11/24. Worked okay till Friday 11/28. When I tried to sync with new additions, a warning came up “the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista windows warning “USB device not recognized”
When I disconnected the touch I found that it could not be started. Tried a forced restore pressing the sleep switch and the home button together. That did not work.
Brought the touch to my apple store genius bar on Saturday and they too couldn’t get it to work. They switched out the ipod with a new one. Brought the new one home connected it and it received the new ipod touch software download okay. But when it tried to sync the same problem repeated…the two pop up warnings as before and a second dead ipod!
I then synced my ipod classic with no problems, so it appears the itunes software is okay. I’ve scheduled another appointment with the local apple store genius bar again.
When I took the new fried touch back to the Apple genius bar, it was switched out again. It was activated (by the initial step ipod touch software download on their computer.
I brought my laptop with me so we could test the syncing. The syncing proceeded initially for several minutes, and then the dreaded pop up warnings appeared
“the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista warning “USB device not recognized”
The new replacement ipod touch was also fried.
The tech gave me yet another new ipod touch. He had never encountered such a problem and advised me delete and reinstall itunes and call the APL CARE 800 support number and go over the problem with one of their techs who have a broad range of experience in dealing with possible PC related issues.
As my other ipod has no problem syncing from the same laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520 using Vista) I am wondering if the problem might be a corrupted Itunes software problem that affects only the touch and not the ipod classics.
Has anyone heard of a bad itunes software related problem? I googled this and could find no info. Thanks for your help!

If you click View, Show Sidebar you will see the other libraries under Shared in the left hand column. Click on the Library you want and you can expand it to select Music, Movies etc. Select whatever items you want and click import if you want to move them to your Library.
You will have to have all computers authorised with the relevant Apple ID's
    Store  >  Authorise this computer...
This is separate from the Home Sharing username and password and is to allow playing of DRM Movies, TV shows etc from the other computer.
If both Computers use the same apple id this step is not required.

  • ITunes Encountering Problems When Importing CDs

Since I allowed an iTunes update about a month ago (?), I've been having problems importing certain (apparently random) CDs. I import a lot of books on CD, and many times "iTunes encounters a problem and has to shut down." Not always. For example, the book I'm trying to import this afternoon worked fine on the first disc, but not at all on the second. I got the shutdown message after only a few seconds. I always join the tracks before importing.
Earlier today, I was having trouble with a number of discs, but it would occur when the import was much further along. I thought I'd figured out a workaround -- instead of joining all the tracks on the CD, I joined them into two sets, each half the size of the full CD. Then imported them one at a time. Worked like a charm for about 5 discs. Then I started importing a new book, thought I'd get brave and try to import a whole CD. Worked like a charm on CD #1. Then I got to #2, and not only did it only work for a few seconds before shutting down iTunes when they were all joined together, when I tried my workaround, that didn't work either.
I'm running iTunes 6.0.1.3, with CD Driver 2.0.4.3 and CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2.

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

Well, thanks for all the help, folks.
After playing around with every permutation I could think of under preferences\advanced\importing, in desparation (because the problem kept getting worse - to the point that I couldn't import any joined tracks at all) I allowed a version update to 6.0.4.2.
    No more problem.
