  • ITunes auto launches every 3-5 minutes (on PC)

iTunes auto launches every 3-5 minutes on my PC.  I have an iPad and iPhone but both are over a year old and it's just started doing this.  I haven't upgraded recently, I have no CD in the drive, I don't have gaming software, I haven't downloaded anything from iTunes Store (ever), and I haven't loaded any new software recently.  I also do not have iTunes selected as my default player (I prefer Windows Media Player on my PC) and I've changed every setting on my computer that I can think of.  This is driving me nuts.

    Hi rogelnaval!
I've found an article that may help you troubleshoot the power issues you are seeing with your iPad. The article is for iPhone troubleshooting, but will apply for your iPad, and can be found here:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Specifically, the section you will want to look for is the second category on the page, and it is labelled "Power/Battery." Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • Disable iTunes auto launch on iPhone docking.

Hello I'm trying to disable iTunes from automatically opening when I dock my iPhone to my computer. I have successfully done this by disabling ituneshelper.exe but this automatically enables itself after every reboot. (even if I disable it via msconfig) Is there a way to permanently stop iTunes from opening up when I dock my iPhone? Thanks a bunch.
I do not have any auto sync functions on.
I run Windows Vista 64 bit.

    I have the same problem!
I am running 8.2.1.6 and EVERY time I plug in my iPhone 3GS it causes two events:
    1) Windows has to tell me that there's a camera connected and asks me if I would prefer to use MS Word or the Camera/Scanner Wizard. Grrr. (MS Word??? Duh.)
    2) iTunes launches, bogs down my network connection, grinds for 5 minutes, and then tells me all about iTunes DJ. Sigh.
In the past, I thought the "Disable automatic syncing" option in Preferences>Devices was all that was required to disable the auto-launch. I guess that's no longer the case.
All I want is to use my USB port to charge my phone -- I let the real iTunes on OSX take care of all my syncing requirements . . .
I think this maybe should be considered a BUG.
    Anybody got an answer?

  • Mac Mini iTunes auto launch

I have a Mac Mini connected to my Sony Bravia thru an HDMI cable. When I tell the TV to change to the HDMI port that the Mac Mini is plugged into, iTunes launchs and starts playing. I've tried everything to tell iTunes not to do anything. I think the TV is somehow sending a "play" command thru the HDMI to the Mac when the port becomes active because, if there is a paused video open in Quicktime, it will begin playing on its own when the port becomes active. If there is no movie open, then iTunes lauches and starts playing. Does anyone know of a way to stop this from happening?

    This is totally crazy.
I reinstalled, which went well. I put the mini back in the entertainment center and rebooted. I switched to the TV and back and iTunes launched automatically. I checked Login Items and iTunesHelper was there. I removed it, logged out, logged in, switched to the TV, switched back and iTunes launced again
I checked LaunchAgents and LaunchDeamons in both  /Library and /System/Library and LaunchAgnets in ~/Library and there are no iTunes related files. I checked in both Finder and terminal just to be sure.
I opened Users & Groups, and there was no iTunesHelper in the Login Items. I opened Activiy monitor and there was no iTunesHelper process running. While screen sharing from my laptop, I switched the HDMI ports again and iTunes again launched, but what's worse, I watched iTunesHelper just appeared in my Login Items, even with the padlock closed!!!
Its like its possessed or something
I checked every setting in iTunes and didn't find anything that would seem to cause this.
I very much appreciate your help and suggestions. At least this is giving me a reason to dig around in Mavericks which I haven't done much of yet.

  • ITunes auto launches on startup (no iPod/Phone connected)

For the last couple of weeks (perhaps longer) I've noticed iTunes launches itself whenever I restart my MacBook Pro.
There is no iPhone connected at the time.
Everything is up to date in software.
I've removed iTunes helper from my login items.
    I'm at a loss.
Your assistance in resolving this matter would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers!
    Darcy

I just tried restarting again, this time with iTunes last closed on my music tab rather than the store tab, where I realized it had been parked for some time.
iTunes still auto launched on startup, though after a longer delay than usual.
AND after I quit iTunes, it auto launched itself again. That was a first.
    For what it's worth.

  • Stop auto launch apeture, stop auto launch apeture

how do i stop the auto launch apeture when plugging in iphone?

You can choose what happens when you connect a device in the Preferences to  Image Capture (in your Applications Folder)
Or, set the Aperture Preferences to 'No Application' in the Preferences -> Import... Connecting camera opens...

  • ITunes auto launch

This is a relatively minor issue, but since installing Lion, when i connect my iPhone, iTunes no longer auto launches.
I do have that option ticked too. Anyone else having this issue?

I've figured it out. With iPhone connected, you deselect auto launch, apply the change. Quit iTunes. Restart iTunes. Select auto launch. Dialog box will ask for confirmation, and reset iTunes Helper. Job done. Quit iTunes. Now connecting iPhone auto launches iTunes.

  • Itunes wont launch,(Please install Apple Application Support)

Itunes won't launch, Get Please Install Apple Application Support, Quicktime won't launch too.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes 8 - Win: STOP iTunes from launching when I connect iPhone???

    Hello,
I have searched around a lot and have seen various responses to this question, but cannot seem to find a definitive way to stop iTunes from launching every time I connect my iPhone 3G.
If this is possible, can someone please provide specific instructions on how to do this?
    Windows Vista - iPhone 3G - iTunes 8
    Thank you!

    Google is your friend, Chad.
Found this link: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?p=513358 with some info excerpted below.
    "+However, there is a workaround solution:+
+Allowing auto-syncing for all devices in Preferences, and then turning automatic syncing off for the device in Summary, corrects the problem and prevents iTunes from auto-launching when the device is connected.+"
It may be Mac specific, but maybe not. Try it out. If not, continue to Google for "Disable iTunes Auto Launch (or auto start).
    Best of Luck

  • Itunes/iPhoto will not auto-launch on non-Admin account

I have looked and looked and have not see this exact problem.
Got my wife an iPhone for xmas, and we share an iMac, I have an admin account on the computer and she has a user account. We both share an iPhoto and iTunes Library via an external drive. So the problem come about when the phone is plugged in when her account is active, neither iphoto or iTunes will auto-launch however if my account is active and the iphone is plugged in they will launch.
For some reason the programs only auto-launch in my account and not in hers and and I tried check and uncheck the auto-sync options in her accounts with no luck.
I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but we activated the phone using my Powerbook.
Anyone have any bright ideas on this one...
    TIA

Not much of a relief to you, but I too have the same problem and believe it has to do with iTunesHelper in the login items and an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. I did some searches and found that iTunesHelper is not in the default login items of new Leopard accounts, but is for Tiger. Since I've upgraded to Leopard, I removed it from my login items and that is when I believe the auto-launch capability stopped. Unfortunately, iTunesHelper isn't a standard application anymore and is buried inside iTunes.
There must be some difference between a new account on Leopard and an upgraded account from Tiger. I just want to remove the login item while keeping the auto-launch of iTunes.

  • TS1717 iTunes will not auto-launch like it used to on Win7. Also cannot start in SAFE mode

I've had this computer & this installation of iTunes for a very long time. It has always worked perfectly, and will auto-start every time I connect the iPhone. (my iPhone would light up and display the "Sync in Progress" message on its screen)
The last few times I've connected it (same phone, same cord, same USB port, same comp., same install of Win7, no Library changes, no new components, no AntiVirus changes - nothing different) iTunes will NOT launch, and the Sync wil not take place.
    But...
If -- after connecting the iPhone -- I manually launch iTunes, it proceeds normally thru the various steps except that the iPhone does NOT display any messages on its screen.  I've tried several times, and re-booted the comp several times.  I've also followed the Apple T/S steps and deleted the two config files & re-booted.  No difference.
Yes - the preferences are set to allow the Sync when I plug in the iPhone.
Yes - I am the only user.
    Yes - I am using a working cable...into a working USB port.
No - I have no third party add-ons or extensions.
    One odd thing:
On the many, many previous occasions that I've opened the list of Running Applications...iTunesHelper.exe has been opne of the various apps running on the computer.  Lately that app has vanished from the list, and...
No - I have not un-checked it in the STARTUP list.

    Well...I was partially-blind.
I had a second look at my MSCONFIG list...and 'waay down at the bottom was iTunesHelper...with its checkbox clear.  oops.
I ticked it of course, and then manually launched iTunesHelper.exe and re-connected the iPhone.  iTunes auto-launched, and (as usual) it stepped thru the various stages like it's supposed to, but still no pop-up message on the iPhone screen.
Now I'm wondering if that came to an end when I made the jump to the iPhone5 from iPhone4(?) because it certainly seems to be syncing alright...just no pop-up on the iPhone's screen.

  • How to prevent iTunes from launching when iPad is connected?

I don't want iTunes 11.0.1 to launch every time I connect my iPad (3rd generation, running iOS 6.0.1) to my Mini. I want to decide if I want iTunes, and then, if I do, launch it manually. How may this be accomplished?
    Notes:
    1.  iTunes .. Preferences .. Devices ==> "Prevent ... from syncing automatically" is UNchecked.
    2.  (in iTunes while connected) iPad .. Summary .. Options ==> "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected" is UNchecked.
    3.  When iTunes auto-launches, it does NOT sync. It "mounts" the iPad and then sits idle.
    TIA for any ideas,
    Mark

    Found the answer via Bing:
    http://www.brighthub.com/computing/hardware/articles/72004.aspx
With the iPad connected and (at least in my case) iTunes NOT running, start the program "Image Capture" (mine is version 6.1). In the lower left will be a label "Connecting this iPad opens:" and below that label is a drop-down box which, in my case, was set to iTunes (don't ask me how), and I have since changed to "No application".
    Gee, that was obvious.

  • ITunes wont launch without iPod

OK. So iTunes has been working perfectly up until now. I downloaded and installed the new version of iTunes last night, and all seemed to be fine then too. But, now when I try to open iTunes by itself it will not launch. I get the message: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". When I connect my iPod to my computer iTunes launches automatically and works just like normal. It is only when I try to launch iTunes without my iPod connected that it refuses to open. It wouldn't be such a problem but sometimes I want to play my music without having to connect my iPod every time.
    Any help greatly appreciated!

I wonder if your desktop icon has got corrupted.
iTunes auto launches with the iPod as it launches in a different way.
You could create a new desktop icon to see if that does the trick.
Open My Computer and got to C:\Program Files\iTunes.
Right click on iTunes.exe and select Send to>> desktop (create Shortcut).

  • How do I stop iTunes from auto-launching when connecting iPod.

I have found one method of doing this set out below.
You may want to stop iTunes from auto-launching whenever you plug in your iPod. To do this, open iTunes, and select the iPod in the left-hand Source window. Four buttons will then appear in the lower right-hand corner of the iTunes window. Click the left-most button with the iPod icon on it. This will bring up the iPod Preferences dialog. Uncheck the option labeled "Open iTunes when attached." You probably also want to prevent iTunes from trying to automatically synchronize your iPod when you connect by selecting the "Manually manage songs and playlists" option in the same Preferences dialog.
I am unable to find the iPod icon in the left hand Source window, maybe if I connect my iPod an icon will appear, but I don't want to do this in case stuff is transferred between the iPod and Comp or vice versa.
Sorry to be so long winded, but it was difficult to explain without being so.
If any one knows of another way to do what I am trying to do
Perhaps they would let me know.
    ASP   Windows XP Pro

okay. in a 7.0.x, we no longer get the "ipod options" icon when the ipod is plugged in and selected in the sourcelist (the area to the left of the iTunes screen). instead, the ipod options and preferences display for us in the main library screen.
"Open iTunes when this ipod is connected" is kept down at the bottom of the "Summary" tab. (scroll down to the bottom of that tab to see everything under the "Options" heading.)
"manually manage music" (or "manually manage music and videos" if you've got a video-capable ipod) is also kept down at the bottom of the "Summary" tab in the Options area.
for a technique for connecting the ipod without automatically syncing (if you have an automatic syncing option set on the ipod already), and then changing the options to "manually manage music", see:
How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
unfortunately, that document is also written for itunes 6.0.x or earlier. so in your case the instructions under the "Now that you're logged in as the Guest user, it's time to get back to iTunes and your iPod:" section at steps 4, 5 and 6 should read:
    4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Summary Tab
    5. Check the "Manually manage music" checkbox.
    6. Click "Apply".
