ITunes AUTO search for missing songs REQUEST

I'm writing to find if there is a way to make my life MUCH easier when moving music files between locations.
Currently my setup is:
Music files on networked PC
iTunes on my G4
The problem is, I refuse to allow iTunes to manage my own files, and it would be impossible with my current networked configuration. However, if I move a file between folders; iTunes give the exclaimation mark saying that it can't find the file.
First problem: using 10.2, the file browser only lets me view about 20 characters, which is hard to distinguish what file it is. But my major second problem, is that if I move several files; I don't want to have to find EACH file. Reimporting the files, loses the play count and sometimes the ratings.
Is there a way that iTunes will search a new folder (assuming the file name is the same?)??

I am with digitaljoe . . . this should be addressed by Apple because it is weak that iTunes is so "stupid" that it can't relink files with a simple prompting by a user. It's not hard technology or programming (for example, Adobe's After Effects can almost always relink ALL missing files simply by showing it where one of the missing files is - even when the rest of the files are on different file paths). The idea that a library that can number in the thousands of songs is limited to relinking one file at a time is a real detriment to this type of program and Apple should have been way on top of this issue.

  • Re: Itunes 10.3 for windows  I had problems  whereas when I searched for a song I kept getting message "Accessing Itunes Store" when I was already in it I uninstalled and reinstalled latest version  Still having problems

I had following problem: When I tried to search for a song in the Itunes Store I kept getting message "Accessing Itunes Store" (even though it appeared I was already in the store) Everytime I typed a character in the Search box the Accessing Itunes Store message would pop up
I was told to uninstall Itunes and Quick time programs and reinstall latest versions, which I have done and now have Itunes 10.3
I still got same messages so I tried a few things and when I went to my itunes account profile I got message "Requested Resouce not found"
Don't know where to go from this point.  HELP

I have the same issue.  I took it the genius bar and called talked to tier 2 phone support. They have standard thing where you uninstall all apple software in a certain order and then reinstall 64bit itunes.  That did nothing (tried it 4 times).
I've gotten two clues so far.
One is that at the store if I plug someone else's iphone 4 in then itunes acts the same way. So it is not the phone. Two is tier 2 phone support told me to try syncing it with a fresh user account (an admin one). I did that and itunes was just fine, it did not freeze.
So there appears to be some conflict with the software, music files, whatever that is on my current user account (also an admin account).  I ran virus and malware detectors and found nothing.  Now I'm going to try putting my music, movies, apps, etc in the new user account and see if the phone will sync then.
I know its not much but thats where I'm at. I hope it helps.

  • How do you search for a song in the latest version of ITunes??

How do you search for a song in the latest version of ITunes??
Yes this might be the stupidest question ever, but leave it to Apple to make the simplest thing hard.
In EVERY version of Itunes, up until 11, you used to be able to type an artists name, song name, or album into the search field and it would narrow it down so that you can see what you are looking for (in the list below).  Now, Itunes tells you that you have music by said artist, yet doesn't list them whatsoever. Furthermore, when you click on the results it doesn't list them for you either.
I'm sure it is some weird setting, but cannot for the life of me find.  I cannot name one application that doesn't show a list when you type in the search field.  Augh!
    Please help.

  • When in i-tunes 11 mac, how do i search for a song as well as a genre at the same time?

when in i-tunes 11 mac, how do i search for a song as well as a genre at the same time?

If you mean searching for a song that you already have in your Library, then you can select "Music" first. Then, go across horizontally to Genres and select that; then by using the drop-down menu found under "View" & (of course) select "View Options"-- you will be presented with a limited # of choices to sort by.
My iTunes 11.0.5 shows 4 parameters to choose from: Title, Artist, Year and Rating. Then you can sort & finally...

  • Need itunes to search for music!!

I can't figure out how to get itunes to search my hard drive for music. Since all kinds of problems with installing new version (old one wiped out entirely) finally got it to open, (two months later) now there's almost no music. Two 50 cent albums, nothing else. None of the good stuff.
My stuff is still on windows media player (thank god for Microsoft). How do I get itunes to look for it and copy it to itunes? (Like the old version did!!!)
    Thanks.

    Hello dis-appointed,
In the Help for iTunes for Mac, the following answer comes up to the query “Search for files”. I suspect that the second one will be the most relevant for you. I presume you can do that via the “Find” facility from the Start menu.
I agree that it would be good to be able to search in the way that the older versions did.
Quoted from iTunes Help for Mac
Here are ways to make your songs appear in the library again:
    • In the Finder, drag your iTunes Music folder to the iTunes window. You will see the songs in your library again, but not playlists, song ratings, or other information you created.
    • If that doesn't work, your songs may be elsewhere on your hard disk. In the Finder, choose File > Find and search for a song by title or artist. Or search for "MP4" to find files downloaded from the iTunes Store or "MP3" to find songs encoded in MP3 format. Drag songs (or folders containing songs) to the iTunes window to add the songs to iTunes again.
    Best of luck,
    Martin

  • PSE5 "searching for missing file"

Whenever I click on a thumbnail picture it gives me the message "Searching for missing file". Some of the pictures I was able to view only hours ago and now they are apperently missing. I have not done anything differently with these pictures. When I click on browse to search for the missing file, it is unable to locate the picture. I am afraid I have just lost hundreds of pictures!

PSE keeps only the hard disk references (location) of the files imported. So, whenever any operation like file renaming, moving to some other location, editing etc happen to a file outside PSE, the file go missing in PSE. On double clicking a file, PSE tries to connect its thumbnail to the original file on hard disk and when it does not find the file, it shows "Reconenct" dialog.
To reconnect the file, you've 2 options - Auto Reconnect & Manual Reconenct
For Auto reconenct just double click the file and allow the dialog to search for file on your hard disk. This can be at times time consuming process.
You can also connect your files manually:
    1) Type "Ctrl + K" on app. A preference dialog will open
    2) Choose "Files" from left side and uncheck second preference to "Automatically search for and reconnect missing files".
    3) Click "Ok" to save the settings
    4) Double click a missing file to open manual reconnect dialog.
    OR
4') To reconnect all missing files in one go --> Goto File menu --> Reconnect --> All missing files. An engine will search all the files that are missing from the catalog and a manual reconnect dialog will be shown..
    5) Now, you can connect each file seperately by manually searching the hard disk.

  • Search for a song in a playlist

Hello.I would like to find out how can I search for a song in a playlist in iTunes on iOS (iPhone 5s)

    Hello WinXXx,
Thank you for the question.  You can search for content in the Music app by tapping the status bar (the top bar of your iPhone where you see the time and battery information):
Search music. While browsing, tap the status bar to reveal the search field at the top of the screen, then enter your search text. You can also search audio content from the Home screen. See Search.

  • Searching for missing column names in a single database.

I have a database with about 100 tables, database gets generated using entity framework. The application has been enhanced  so users deployed with older version of the application need to upgrade to newer version. The database generated is both versions
    is same name.
Now, the older version is missing some tables and column names that are in new database.
Is there a script that can search for missing fields in a single database as described in this situation?
Below is my script. Basically, nameofdatabase would the database generated and that already existing. If you install the application and database already exits no new database will be created.
    SELECT * FROM (Select TABLE_CATALOG, Table_name,COLUMN_NAME FROM nameofdatabase.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS) a FULL OUTER JOIN (SELECT TABLE_CATALOG, Table_name,COLUMN_NAME FROM nameofdatabase.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS) b ON b.COLUMN_NAME=a.COLUMN_NAME and
    a.TABLE_NAME=b.TABLE_NAME WHERE b.COLUMN_NAME is null or a.COLUMN_NAME is null ;

  • I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extrem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptops hard drive??

I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extreme (2 TB drive plugged into the USB port).  I see the drive on my laptop and I can add and delete files no problem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptop's hard drive?  I don't have enough space to do that.

How did you move the music to the external drive?  What exactly is on the drive?  The entire iTunes folder or only music?  If it is the entire iTunes folder you can do the option+start suggestion earlier.  If you copied only music and did so by dragging it there then you need to delete it again and consolidate/organize it there instead so iTunes tracks the move.  iTunes 12 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507

  • How to search for a song?

I'm searching for a song using the search box on the top right hand side of the page.  When I hit enter the screen flashes a page and then goes blank

  • Organizer. not able to turn off "automatic search for missing files"

Organizer starts searching for missing files. files that i have deleted, and the programme just keep on forever searching for those already deleted files. When i try to turn off that function, the organizer just stops. Running the program on Imac 2010.

That's the thing with the Elements Organizer - once you start managing your media in it you must also use it for all subsequent maintenance so that it retains integrity.
To try and resolve the Find> all Missing Files crash problem go to File> Manage Catalogs and Repair your current catalog. Follow that with an Optimize. See if you can now find them without the crash.
If Find> All Missing Files is still causing a crash, you could try File> Reconnect> All Missing Files. As that searches your entire hard disk for one image at a time, and will take a very long time if you did a lot of deletions with your EasyDuplicateFinder program, wait for it to finish examining your catalog then cancel the attempt to find each image. Now in your organizer each of the missing files thumbnails will have a question mark at top left - you can then delete these from the catalog. After you've done quite a few retry Find> All Missing Files again to see if it will run without crashing.
