ITunes auto starting is getting old

I have gone through all the different threads, tried disk utility on the install disk. Completely removed iTunes from my hard drive using the support page from Apple then reinstalled iTunes and it is still starting on its own. At this point, I am seriously considering going back to iTunes 8, if that is even possible.
This is ridiculous. Apple should be ashamed of the issue and get it fixed but it doesn't even seem to be an issue they are aware of. It's like they don't even read their own forums here.

You are right JVL. But then I did ask a question, it just was phrased as a rant rather than a direct question.
So, to poster ta, I owe you an apology. I am on enough other forums that you would think I would be used to a response that didn't do anything to help me. But I guess I just got tired of it in general. Nothing against you, so please try to understand that I don't know you and have nothing against you personally. The anonymity of the internet leads many, including myself it would seem, to forget my manners. I apologize.
To answer ta's one true question, the starts are random. There is no rhyme nor reason to them. Sometimes I am doing nothing, sometimes I am surfing the net, sometimes I am doing data entry. So, no thread to connect the auto starts.
As to ta's comment that if there was an issue, he is sure Apple would be looking into it. Well, not really at least IMHO. I have found posts from the middle of last year, on this and other forums, and websites, talking about the same issue. I, and others, have submitted bug reports. So I am sure apple is aware of the issue. His comment, "why would they fix it?" is probably what set me off. My answer would be, they would fix it because it is broken and is a tarnish to Apples reputation. This company used the catchy PR phrase, "It just works". Well it doesn't "just work" anymore. More and more issues are arising. Have you looked at this particular discussion group lately? The number of issues with iTunes 9 is growing pretty quick. And the recent release of 9.0.3 doesn't seem to have fixed all that is wrong with iTunes.
As I said, iTunes is a "halo product" for Apple. It should just work and it doesn't, at least for me and a number of other folks.
Now, if somebody has some other things to try other than those that have been recommended, I would love to hear them and willing to give them a try.
And I will try my best to behave myself and not jump down your throat for no reason.

  • 2007 iMac freezes up, rainbow wheel appears when this happens. I know the computer is starting to get old but I can't afford a new one at this time and would love to continue using my Mac, but it's frustrating. Would a fresh install or OS upgrade resolve?

My circa 2007 iMac freezes up, and rainbow wheel appears when this happens. I know the computer is starting to get old but I can't afford a new one at this time and would love to continue using my Mac, but it's frustrating. Most of the time I ONLY have 1 thing open at a time, and keep my tabs down to a minimum. I bought this to do film editing on but with it acting like this I cannot do that. I know I need a ram upgrade (currently running 2 gb) and my OS is old, 10.5.8, but I think even with it being a bit outdated it should run better than this. Would a fresh install or OS upgrade resolve this? Or any other suggestions to keep this clunker chugging along for a little while longer?

How full is the hard drive?
Do you run any virus software or hard drive "cleaner" software like MacKeeper?
If your model is from 2007 you can install up to 6 GBs of RAM.
2 GBs is the barest of minimum RAM for OS X to run on.
Especially if doing video work. You simply do not have sufficient RAM.
Also OS X 10.5.8 Leopard support ended around 2009.
You could update to OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, at least.
It is available on disc from the Apple store for U.S. $19.99.
I Would seriously upgrade your iMac's RAM to the max. 6 GBs before doing this.
Reliable Mac RAM can be purchase from online Mac RAM source Crucial memory or OWC ( also known as macsales).

  • How to turn off iTunes auto-start when iPhone connected?

The option "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" is disabled (grayed out) in iTunes 10. The grayed-out check box is unchecked, yet iTunes starts every time I plug in my iPhone 3G. I would like to be able to plug in my phone without iTunes starting. Is there a way?

Right. Un-checking the preference to prevent auto-sync re-enabled the auto-start option. Then I was able to check and un-check the auto-start option and re-check the prevent auto-sync preference. Now all seems well. Despite appearances (the un-checked option), the internal setting was in the wrong state and twiddling it seems to have set things right.
What a boneheaded user interface, where items on widely separated parts of the UI affect each other invisibly.

  • Itunes 10.1 will not download because I can't get old apple application support off my computer windows xp

itunes 10.1 will not download because I can't get old apple application support off my windows XP. Help!

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?

I have been using one apple ID for my family as it makes it easier to manage itunes purchases/rentals on all of our devices.  Now that my kids are getting old and my wife has recently purchased an Iphone, I can see that I need to change my strategy. I plan to add a few more iphones to the family very soon.  What is your recommendation to manage all of our devices (iphones, itouch, apple tv) for my family?  Can I continue to function with one apple ID or is it time to take the leep into attempting to manage multi-apple ID's?

At present I have no power to the Gen 7, so need to get some power to it I think.  I pressed the buttons as you suggested, but nothing is showing up at this point.  Thank you for your response as the more I can rule out before  I take it back the better I think.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Earlier back up is corrupted. Thank you in advance. No longer have my old iPod but getting new one.

If you had the hard drive from the original machine, a backup of the same, an iPod with the media, or a subscription to iTunes Match then there would have been hope, but alas no.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync

  • Cannot get iTunes to start, no matter what fixes I try

    Hi all!
I was running iTunes 12 on Windows 64x computer. My iTunes started crashing a few days ago and now won't open AT ALL. Not in Safe Mode or anything. Won't create a new library either. I get no error message either.
Please don't tell me to uninstall/reinstall iTunes or Quicktime, I have scoured the internet and Apple support community forums and I've just about tried every single fix I could possibly find.
This is the first thing I tried: http://support.apple.com/en-za/HT1923
so please don't suggest that one again. I've even tried unistalling quicktime and also reinstalling the latest version. I have downgraded my iTunes to a previous version. I have tried using an older library file. I have tried the msconfig fix. I have tried the sfc /scannow in command prompt too. It won't even open in safe mode. It won't let me create a new library. NOTHING.
Some of the articles I read:
Sometimes (usually late at night when I need to get to bed) itunes will not respond once it opens on my windows laptop.  Get twirly spin and if that ever stops, itunes freezes and I cannot do anything with it.

itunes will not open --windows 7 64bit
And NONE of those solutions have worked!!!!
I thought it might be a problem with IOBit software which I installed recently, so I uninstalled that, but it didn't make any difference.
I have enabled iTunes and Bonjour on the Firewall too like it says here: How to enable iTunes in Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 firewall - Apple Support
I have even looked at msvcr80.dll and QTMovieWin.dll. I must say, copying QTMovieWin.dll has kept iTunes running longer in Task manager than anything else, a whole 45 sec. But it still didn't open!!
Please if anyone has help it would be appreciated!!
    Thanks a lot!

    Actually my iTunes just started!!!!
So if anyone else is having this problem, the last thing I tried was copying the QTMovieWin.dll from my C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder to my C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes folder and started my iTunes Helper.exe
    Hope that can help someone!
