ITunes auto update content of directory

Is it possible to make a folder for example on the desktop call it music and then make iTunes autoimport the content from the directory to the iTunes? It is really annoying that i have to remeber what new songs i've got on my windows pc to import them to iTunes! And if i choose to import the same directory to my iTunes again it makes every item double! My solution at the moment is to delete all music everytime i start my iTunes and import the directory again really makes me use winamp more than iTunes but it's the only reason!!

Sorry but no, iTunes has no "folder watch" feature.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Does the iTunes Auto-updater Realize the Currently Installed Version is 64?

I installed iTunes64Setup.exe for v7.6 before. ONce installed, there is virtually no way to tell it is the 64-bit version (about iTunes, etc.)
Today the iTunes auto updater alerted me to udpate to v7.7.1. How do I know it recognizes I need the 64-bit version instead of the regular Xp/Vista32 version?

  • How do I disable the itunes auto-update for all users?

I need to know if there is a way to disable the auto-update feature for all users that login to a windows XP computer.
I have disabled it for the account currently logged in as well as copy that user profile to the "default user" profile. However I have about 300 users that do not have admin rights that still get prompted to install updates.
Is there a way to disable the auto update as the default for all users. So that only I get the auto update notifications?

  • ITunes auto updated by store

Followed a link the opened the App Store, upon launch it updated iTunes without asking me if I wanted to. I did not!  Is it possible to revert to the last IiTunes incarnation.  The last version was bad enough and I really really hate the new interface.  I have not upgraded any to OSNational Park way too bright.  The fake metallic gives my eyes sort break from staring at 100 watt light bulb called the content part of a window all day.  I have 5 Macs here at home and will no longer be visiting the App Store if it keeps storm trooping updates without my permission.

I wasn't aware of the reference try surfing in the North Pacific, not even an insulated wet suit helps,..........Cold!
When it was updated by App Store it opened on it's own and went directly to the iTunes store. I didn't check to see if it had remembered where my content is located.  There's 4tbs of media on an external drive.  The other 4 Macs here at home all have the previous version. I know to copy all the attendant files located in the 3 libraries along with the application.  Been doing maneuvers like that since OS7. With OS10 Apple software like iTunes can so tethered to the OS that one has to be very careful. Even commercial software can be problematic as well, did it with Corel Painter, real nightmare. Thanks for the help.

  • Windows Vista Issue: iTunes auto-updated, now will not open

    Computer: Dell XPS 400
    OS: Windows Vista Ultimate
I was running a version of iTunes that I recently downloaded after installing Windows Vista Ultimate. Yesterday, Apple Updater updated my iTunes install to version 7.1.3.1 and now iTunes will not open.
I have tried uninstalling, registry cleaners, running as administrator, using compatibility mode, etc. I have tried virtually everything listed on these forums and nothing has worked.
iTunes.exe will run under Processes in Task Manager, but will never open.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is Apple planning on fixing this apparant bug in future releases?

This problem is evidently extremely common, as there are many posts saying essentially the same thing about 7.3.1. I installed it and ran into a number of problems immediately, the least of which was that iTunes does not run. The UI appears, but never gets focus so does not respond to any mouse or KB events. There is no error message of any kind. Deleting the preferences files does nothing. Deep removal of all things iTunes (folders, leftover registry keys, etc.) followed by a clean reinstall does not change the situation.
Worse, 7.3.1 uses lots of CPU power (both cores >50% for seconds at a time) while doing exactly nothing. While I appreciate that Apple and Microsoft are dedicated to ensuring that no CPU is left unhammered, this is a bit much.
I have the same version as a clean (first time ever) iTunes install on an XP laptop, and that, so far, is benign.

  • Why doesn't iTunes auto update to 10.6.1?

Apple Software Update informs me of the above update and I click install.
After a while the install gives the error:
"Errors occurred while installing updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools>Download only and try installing manually".
The fact that the iTunes menu does not include "Tools" seems to escape whoever wrote the script.
Repaired Apple Software Update in Add/Remove programmes and tried again - same result.
I can only assume there is a problem with this update and do not want to try the manual option.
    Anybody else seeing this?

Seems I may have found the problem.
I looked in Services and saw that I had set Apple Mobile Device to disabled.
Reset it to manual and started it. Ran ASU again and 10.6.1 installed OK.
The reason I set Apple Mobile Device to disabled is because I DON'T HAVE AN APPLE MOBILE DEVICE!!
I don't have an iPod either but iPod service always runs on start up even though it's told not to synch with anything. iTunes Helper is another unwanted start up item but at least that can be removed.
This unwanted start up junk is a pain, that's why I stop it.
I assume other people may have done the same thing but why settings preferences should cause problems with updating I don't know.

  • Older Firefox takes up quite a few disk space after auto update.

After several auto updates, <Firefox install directory>/updated/ directory takes up a few hundreds MB of disk space. I would like to be able to safely delete it (after quite some time with the newly installed version).

This what you can do. Go to '''''[https://www.mozilla.org Mozilla.org]''''',
and download the full installer for the current version. After, close Firefox.
Uninstall Firefox, reboot, and then install the program you just downloaded.

  • No content shows up in iTunes after updating - Apple's fix doesn't work!

    Hello,
I have a iPod Classic 80gb and Itunes(last version). I don't know what the heck happens, but my library is cleared everytime Itunes is updated. Every time this happens I try replacing the Itunes library (date).itl file back into the Itunes folder, but my itunes appears not to create these "previous itunes library files" automatically anymore.
Yesterday I downloaded my podcasts, today when I started up itunes all my content was gone. No podcasts, no music, no tv shows, nothing. It's been happening for the past 6 or more months. So last week I finally found the troubleshooting at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967 . I did exactly as it said and I thought I would be free of this harassment forever. But it happened again.
Can someone explain to me why this **** thing keeps happening? Why is it that my "previous itunes libraries" folder only shows really old library files, not a single library file named after 2009-10-10, even though I use iTunes every day.
PS: everytime I do the workaround proposed at the knowledge base (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967), when I plug my iPod it says its synced with another library, and I have to let it erase and resync everything.
What am I doing wrong??? Apple is a big company, I hope this is my fault and not apple's, but it seems that many people are experiencing the same thing.

Fair enough. Got my fingers crossed for you.
Another user posted the same issue a few hours ago: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2298480&tstart=15
Yes, it's unpleasantly common ... in some cases, folks lose their libraries *every time* iTunes is shut down. The other main offender in this sort of regard is ESET's Smart Security and/or NOD32 antivirus, although that is usually also associated with a "cannot save library" message nowadays.

  • When firefox trys to auto update, or I manually download the new version, or some but not all downloads off of the web, I get this error message. C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.

First off, when firefox trys to auto update, it fails. It tells me to try and download the new version from mozilla's site. When I try to download the new version I get this: (C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.)
This is the same message I have been getting when I try to download other things off the net. (When I use other browsers to download I dont have this problem)

    Please help.
    It is getting worse
Adobe flash player is crashing. I already uninstalled and re installed the latest ver. Also it is hanging randomly.

    Hi pholewinski!
I have a couple of articles for you here that I believe will help you with this issue. The first is an article on advanced troubleshooting, and it can be found here:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3297
If following that article's steps doesn't take care of the issue, you can try the things listed in this article, which is about permissions issues in iTunes:

  • We are trying to package our iTunes Windows and we can't stop the auto update feature.  How can we do this?

We have consultants here packaging many of our Apps for deployment with Windows 7.  We cannot find a way to turn off the auto update feature within iTunes for Windows.  Has someone been successful in packaging iTunes for Windows and NOT do the auto update piece?

The Apple advice revolves around the editing the registry:

... but it's beyond my competence to advise how to work that particular registry edit into a deployment, I'm afraid.

Wouldn't apple check before releasing new version, I see so many people with same issue..its such a waste of time for everyone now to fix it.
Is there any other way to fix before I try to un-install everything and re-install back?

  • How do you disable iPod Auto Update with iTunes?

How do you disable iPod Auto Update with iTunes? I know there is a key press combo that will do it but I forget which keys. Anyone?

Keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
    Another Easier Alternative:
While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys in Windows (CMD + Option keys on a Mac). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes. The iPod will then appear in the iTunes source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto-sync and then you can release the keys. This action may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
You can then ‘right-click‘ on the iPod icon in iTunes’ source column and select iPod Options, then check the box that says “Manually manage songs and playlists”. You can now manage your library without losing any songs on the iPod.
Note: If connecting to a different computer than the ‘iPod’s Home Computer’, iTunes will ask you if you want to update your iPod and give you an opportunity to opt out. This will not happen if you connect to the ‘Home’ computer – iTunes will auto-sync without warning!. Best to know the difference.
