ITunes auto vs. manual

Hey everyone...quick question:
I use my home PC as my "home" for my iTunes library (iPod sync is set to automatic) and everything works great there. But I have a couple of other computers (a laptop and my desktop at work) that I would like to use to manually transfer the occasional podcast or something to the iPod. It seems that the PC at work thinks that IT is the iPod's home library though. I've set all of the iPod sync settings to manual in iTunes, but every time I connect the iPod, it goes back to automatic and tries to sync. Is there a way to make this installation of iTunes "forget" about the iPod? Maybe a registry key I can clear or something?
Thanks in advance!

You can't have the iPod on automatic update on one computer and manual on another. You'll have to make it one or the other. If you even temporarily went to manual on a different computer as soon as you went back to auto at home whatever you put on will be erased: Using iPod with Multiple computers

  • My mini ipad2 will not backup to cloud - not auto or manually and I have plenty of storage ??

my mini iPad 2 will not backup to iCloud storage ... Not auto or manually... I have a pard storage plan so I have plenty of room ... I get no messages except that backup could not be completed... Any suggestions anyone ?

Have you tried using another WiFi network? Or reset your router? Uplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again. Sometimes that can really work wonders.
You may also have a corrupt backup and deleting the current backup might help. I wouldn't delete the backup without backing up to iTunes first. If you don't use iTunes, that won't be an option, but it may come down to having to delete the backup anyway if nothing else will work.

  • ITunes automatically checks Manually manage music and videos????

Every time I connect my Classic or Nano, iTunes automatically checks Manually manage music and videos. If you uncheck this option it wants to erase your iPod, Classic or Nano and create a new sync which takes hours.
So to be specific. When start the first sync I have the following checked:
Open iTunes when this iPod is connected.
    Enable Disk use.
After doing a 2 hour sync and then reconnecting, it has automatically checked Manually manage music and videos. When you uncheck it wants to reload your entire Library. Which takes 2-3 hours. The problem with Manually..... it doesn't sync new additions to the Library.
I am starting to become an Apple hater. They are going the way of Microsoft. You call Apple tech support and they want to charge you per incident. And Lion is a disaster. I was an early convert to Apple and now I am getting really cranky.

I was thinking the other way.
Checking Manually manage Music and Videos does not erase the content (even though it says it will).

  • HT5654 iTunes auto update downloaded and installed on 28/01/2014. iTunes now won't launch and error message states file MSVCR80.dll is missing. Tried uninstalling and downloading/installing again to no avail. Any clues?

iTunes auto-update dowloaded and installed on 28/01/2014. iTunes now won't launch and error message states file MSVCR80.dll is missing. Tried unistalling and downloading/installing again to no avail.  Any clues?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Resetting itunes to upgrade manually

    Hi!
The first time I connected Ipod to my PC I set it to update automatically. I recently downloaded to my Ipod a few songs from another computer so now I have in my Ipod like 20 songs I don't have in my itunes library. Is there a way to reset my itunes to upgrade manually before connecting my ipod to my computer so these new songs are not deleted. For what I understand after reading the manual, if I connect my Ipod to my computer it will immediately start upgrading songs without asking first.
    Thanks!

Just connect the iPod to the PC, you will get a pop up, just hit NO now you can rightclick the ipod in iTUnes, hit options and set it to "Manual Update"

  • ITunes crashing when manually updating iPhone - Frustrated, help!

    Hi,
Purchased a brand new 16gb iPhone lastweek. Everything seems to be working fine apart from when I try to upload songs to the iPhone via iTunes. I manually drop and drag (like I do for my nano) and the songs will update on the phone, but whenthe songs are on and the bar at the top of iTunes says "Syncing songs to iPhone" it just freezes and crashes. So I have to unplug the iPhone and restart iTunes if I want to add more music, now I am not doing that, I'll be there forever.
I have re-installed iTunes, defragmented my PC (XP), restarted PC numerous times and nothing seems to be working. I'm also closing all other programs while attempting to transfer music aswell, and making sure all USB ports are empty incase of comflict on the PC. But this is becoming very annoying for me, I got a iPhone because of the iTouch inside it.
Please help if you have any idea.
    Cheers.

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If this doesn't work, you may need to restore. See the manual for more detail... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf

  • Does the iTunes Auto-updater Realize the Currently Installed Version is 64?

I installed iTunes64Setup.exe for v7.6 before. ONce installed, there is virtually no way to tell it is the 64-bit version (about iTunes, etc.)
Today the iTunes auto updater alerted me to udpate to v7.7.1. How do I know it recognizes I need the 64-bit version instead of the regular Xp/Vista32 version?

  • ITunes auto launches every 3-5 minutes (on PC)

iTunes auto launches every 3-5 minutes on my PC.  I have an iPad and iPhone but both are over a year old and it's just started doing this.  I haven't upgraded recently, I have no CD in the drive, I don't have gaming software, I haven't downloaded anything from iTunes Store (ever), and I haven't loaded any new software recently.  I also do not have iTunes selected as my default player (I prefer Windows Media Player on my PC) and I've changed every setting on my computer that I can think of.  This is driving me nuts.

    Hi rogelnaval!
I've found an article that may help you troubleshoot the power issues you are seeing with your iPad. The article is for iPhone troubleshooting, but will apply for your iPad, and can be found here:

Specifically, the section you will want to look for is the second category on the page, and it is labelled "Power/Battery." Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I need to reformat my computer.
Currently my ipod/itunes is on manual mode because I don't have any of my songs stored on my computer, they are only stored on my ipod.
When i reinstall itunes after the reformat, and plug in my ipod, will it stay on manual mode and keep my music on the ipod? or will it switch to default automatic and delete everything from my ipod once itunes is reinstalled?
I want to back up my files to my ipod as well before I reformat.
Please help me, I wasn't sure where to post this and I really need to reformat my computer.

  • Itunes auto-ejects my iPod classic immediately after mounting

    greetings,
a very strange problem started today...
    i have a 120Gig iPod classic, software version 2.0.1
i have 3 macs of different:
1 macbook pro about 3 years old with 10.6.6 and iTunes 10.1.2,
1 macbook pro also 3 years old with 10.6.7 which is my work computer, iTunes 10.5,
1 powerbook 1.5Ghz G4 with 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2.1 which is my music server connected to my stereo.
i also have a mountable partition on my iPod to transfer files between computers when needed.
i keep my iPod set to "manual syncing" in iTunes so i can plug it into any computer to play my music when away from homw.
today, when plugging in my iPod to my MBPro with 10.6.6, the iPod showed it was connected to a computer and the iPod mounted on the desktop, like normal. then, i manually started iTunes.  the iPod appeared in iTunes but wouldn't play anything when i tryed to play songs.  the display on my iPod sad "ejecting" and then behaved as though it was no longer connected to my MBPro.  the iPod partition was now unmounted in the finder.  however iTunes still showed the iPod and all the songs on it.  i ejected the iPod in iTunes and tried again.  i watched the iPod screen and saw that after connecting to iTunes it display "syncing" for a moment, then gave an message that it was being ejected...
i repeated this on my powerbook, where it normally syncs to, with the same symptoms.
i tried resetting the iPod, cycle hold switch then hold select and menu until the apple logo appeared.  the iPod reset and i tried again with the same results...
i rebooted my computers, reset the iPod again and continue to get the same behavior on all 3 computers...  clearly an iPod problem...  iTunes indicates the iPod software is up to date...
checking the console logs for iTunes error messages, the only messages that shows up with iTunes is "CGSGetWindowBounds: Null window" repeatedly.  this appears in 1 computer, don't see error messages when connecting the iPod in the other computer....
since i cannot keep my iPod mounted to any computer with any version of iTunes, i'm not sure what to do to fix it since the simple reset option doesn't work.
i searched the iPod discussion forum and didn't see anything that looks like this.
    has anyone seen this before?
any suggestions about what to try next?
    i appreciate any suggestions...
    thanks-

    greetings,
it was obviously a problem with the iPod.  so i reformatted my iPod, reinstalled i iPod software, and then did a fresh sync to iTunes.  it seems to be working fine again for the last week.  since i couldn't mount the iPod without it auto ejecting, i had to put in into "disk mode".  then i could use iTunes to reformat and start over again.
the only thing i did BEFORE erasing the iPod was to compare the changes in my podcasts, then update the changes in iTunes so they would show up as "unplayed" on my iPod after they were copied back to my iPod.  i normally listen to podcasts on my iPod and delete them there, then iTunes syncs those changes back to my computer.
