  • A sleeve exclusively designed for the retina 15" macbook pro?

I want to buy a sleeve for my 15" retina macbook pro, but i realize that there are a lot of sellers that advertise their prodcuts as "made for retina" but in reality they were made for the classic macbook pro, so they fit loose , baggy... can you recommend a good sleeve specifically designed for the 15" retina macbook pro? I would like one with a pocket for the charger, so far these two are my choices:
    Booq Mamba Sleeve 15 http://www.booqbags.com/us/sleeves/mamba-sleeve/MSL11-GRY
Incase Neopreno Pro Sleeve http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA175ZM/A/incase-15-neoprene-pro-sleeve-for-ma cbook-pro-with-retina-display?fnode=50

I am also looking for such a case. I find that since the Retina is smaller/thinner -- every case I try the laptop is swimming around inside. I also feel like the laptop itself is less bulky so I'd like a case that takes advantage of our ability to be more sleek and small while traveling.
Have you had any luck finding a case?

  • Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?

Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?
As of today feb 15 i have been waiting for 78 days. Finland doesn't have an official apple store (only authorized resellers) It was my mistake because i should have bought from apple.com. But i think 2.5 months is too long and i have no information about when i can get it..

    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 256 GB SSD costs $2,000.
    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,300.
With 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD it costs $2,500.
    The high-end 15” rMBP with a 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,600.
All cost $500 dollars more with a 1 TB SSD.
So the SSD size is not a differentiating factor unless you prefer 256 GB.
If you think you need 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD then you might as well spend the extra $100 for the high-end model.
The high-end model will make a difference on gaming and graphics-oriented applications.
They tend to run other applications at about the same speed.
Both models are rated with 8 hours of battery life.
Benchmarks on PhotoShop comparing memory sizes:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5659174?tstart=30
The speed was about 10% different between 8 GB and 16 GB models.
On other applications your mileage may vary.
    Application benchmarks:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2059215/15-inch-retina-macbook-pro-review-a-tale -of-two-laptops.html
The low-end and high-end performed the about the same on non-graphics oriented applications.
    Graphics oriented benchmarks:
On the Cinebench OpenGL benchmark the high-end was about twice as fast.
On the Unigine Heaven Benchmark benchmark they ran at about the same speed.
On the Unigine Valley Benchmark benchmark the high-end was about 1.5x as fast.

  • Is there a MagSafe 2 compatible portable external power source for the retina display MacBook Pro?

I’m using a retina display MacBook Pro with the MagSafe 2 connection.   I would like to have a portable external power source to extend the use of my laptop on long field trips where I am away from power sources. Swapping batteries is not an option for this generation of MacBook Pros.  There seem to be many options for PC’s and even iPhones/iPads/iPods but the MagSafe 2 connection seems to be the issue.  I saw one link that suggested buying an Apple MagSafe 2 power adapter and performing surgery on the power cord (using components provided by the vendor) so that the adapter would run on their back up battery.  I was hoping for a more esthetically pleasing solution. Any suggestions?  Does this product exist and I just missed it? Clearly, if a MagSafe(1) compatible external battery existed I could adapt that using the MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter.

    Sparon,
I wouldn’t recommend using an underpowered AC adapter with your MacBook Pro. It sounds as though the best solution would be to get a different laptop bag with a sufficiently large side pocket.

  • Should I go for the new Retina Macbook Pro 13" (announced Oct 2013) or the Macbook Air 13"?

So, I was set on the Macbook Air until Apple announced the new notebook. The reason I was set on Air previously is because I really need a portable laptop, and the Air was lighter. But the new Pro seems light enough if not as light, so I'm confused all over again.
I won't use my laptop for much. I don't use my computer for gaming or high-end photo editing. I might use it for basic photo editing, nothing too special. I'm going to start college soon, which is why I need a portable laptop with good battery life. And I will be typing a lot. I listen to a lot of music, and so, I download quite a lot of music as well. Space is not that big of an issue, since I already own an external hard drive. Other than that, I browse the Internet... basic websites... Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr etc etc.
So, input would be highly appreciated. Which laptop would meet my needs, and will be good in the long run as well? Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, a college student should get the old-fashioned MacBook, NOT the Air.
You are going to be putting this in a backpack and heading off to your next class or lunch four or five times a day. The regular MacBook Pro can stand that abuse -- the Air is much more light and delicate.
If you were an executive, slipping this (in a neoprene sleeve) in and out of your Briefcase once a day, I would say the Air is fine.

  • Are there any hard shell cases available for the new Retina Macbook Pro?

  • Best Bargain for the price? macbook pro i5 or i7?

I am using the same post, I just wrote a few minutes back so that more people can read it.
    Comments are welcome.
I have been reading this forum for a while now since I wanted to buy the new macbook pro.
And I did something that nobody here tried to do which is compare prices or at least i didn't see a post about it.
    Here is the link: http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=43560,47341,43544,
Basically, there is 32 dollars difference between I5 2.4GHZ and the I5 2.53GHZ.
Will I pay 168 dollars more to get a 500 GB HD instead of a 320 GH?
AND, there is 107 dollars difference between I5 2,4Ghz and the I7 2,66 Ghz.
Will I pay 293 dollars more (400-107) for the 500 GB HD and the 256 MB more of graphics?
You bet it a big NO.
What I did is get the best deal here which is the 2,4Ghz I5 but I had to add antiglare and no other option.

Everyone one has different needs and, in the Apple world, wants. Frankly, the i7 isn't capable of doing anything that the low end i5 can't do. It could be argued that the best bargain is the lowest end machine in that it is the least expensive to get the job done. There will always be people willing to pay a premium for those little bumps in performance. This has always been the case with Apple. They have always offered upgrades at what are generally considered high prices. In the case of the original MacBooks, the black version, while offering very slightly better components, was primarily more expensive just because it was black and more exclusive. For most it's really not a matter of just the best dollar value. Apple really doesn't offer more than a few models of machines to start with... and then limited upgrade options within those ranges. It's not like the PC world where there can be a substantial difference from manufacturer to manufacturer in pricing for similarly spec'd machines. If you want a Mac... Apple typically offers an "entry level" machine in each category and then upgraded versions that you'll have to pay for. Although, the range between the entry level and the high end has become somewhat blurry. The last rev of the MacBook Pros removed the dual GPUs from the low end 15" model... which made upgrading to one of the higher levels actually a necessity for some who may have actually needed the dedicated GPU. With the current models, with very limited exception, the low end version would be fine for most people... but I expect tons of people will still go for either of the two upgraded versions. I myself just bought the i7 version as a gift.

  • The pages become too big for the screen on Macbook pro

    Hello,
Yesterday I was watching a movie on amazon.com using my Macbook Pro (retina display if it helps). I connected it to my TV via HDMI and put it on full screen. After the movie I was too lazy to tidy up and went to sleep. This morning, when I opened it, on the 'safari' ( I don't know if its the same name in english because my computer is in french) and battle.net have 1/3 of the page is outside the borders of it horizontally and vertically. I also feel that everything is bigger. I tried restarting it or closing the pages and opening them again but it doesn't work. Please help    me because I use my laptop for everything I do and I need it as soon as possible. Please excuse any spelling mistakes.

Sorry I found what the problem was but I can only explain in french, you have to go to 'preferences system' then to 'Moniteurs' and click on 'Optimal (retina).

  • I bought MacOS X Mountain Lion few days ago, and I have 3 computers : I could done it for the iMac and the Macbook, but I can't have it for the last one (Macbook Pro) ? Why can I do ? Thanck's

I thought that bying Mac OS X Mountain Lion was enough for all my 3 computers ! It runs for 2 of them, but I can't download it anymore for my last computer : does it mean that it's ok for 2 computers only ? Do I have to by it again for my last computer ? I didn't find any download on my Apple Store account...! Thanck you for your answer.

Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
Verify that the computer can run Mountain Lion. If not, then you would only be able to upgrade to Lion assuming it meets those requirements:
    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • HT4904 went to install the proper version of the firmware for the early 2011 macbook pro and it came up stating that it wouldn't work on my computer??? is this because like a fool I upgraded my macbook to Mavericks?

with mavericks installed does that mean I already have the ability of runing the recovery function from the internest or what do I need to do to get the latest firmware on my system. thanks for your time and asistance

All Macs running OS X Lion or newer have got Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 However, Mid 2010 and newer MacBooks Pro support Internet Recovery through a firmware update.
If you have got a Mid 2010 or newer MacBook Pro, you need to install a EFI update to install Internet Recovery, so open  > Software Update, and install all updates. If you do not see any EFI update, you already have got Internet Recovery. You can start up in Internet Recovery by holding down Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting up.
If you have got an older MacBook Pro, you cannot use Internet Recovery, but you have got the Recovery partition to reinstall Mac OS X. To start up into OS X Recovery, hold Command and R keys while your computer is starting up.

  • 64-bit or 32-bit for the 2011 (spring) Macbook Pro 8 RAM 500HD?

I wanted to know the differences between 64 bit and 32 bit OSx I am currently running the latest Lion 10.7.3 on a 2011 spring macbook pro with 8 gigs of ram 500 gigs HD. From what I can read in the info it looks like it defaults to 32 bit automatically but I was told that I can hold down the 6 and 4 keys during startup to start with 64 bit. I would just like to know anyones experiences and what software it works better with. I usually run Adobe CS5.5 and it would be great to find out 64 bit will give it a boost. Please list pros and cons you know of..
    Thanks..
    Pete

It should be running 64-bit on its own with Lion. My 2007 MBP began running full 64-bit after I installed Lion.
Run the Activity monitor and see what the kernel is using. It should show 64-bit.
