ITunes becomes unresponsive when laptop sleeps

I am running windows with the latest version of iTunes (10.2.1.1) and the problem is that iTunes will become unresponsive if I have iTunes open and then I close the lid of my laptop to sleep. When I open the lid the task manager will show iTunes as "Not Responding" so I have to terminate the process.
This became an issue in the latest updates and was also an issue in older verions of iTunes too. I am running windows 7 64 bit

I had to change my laptop's setting when I have my external hard drive connected. The exHD has all my song files on it. It was taking too long to wake up after opening the lid.
So, go into the laptop's power option and try different things. Another option (not a fun one) is close itunes before shutting the lid.

Upon connecting my iPod Touch 4 and sync it with iTunes, it starts off fine then freezes and iTunes becomes unresponsive altogether !!  I have all the newest updates installed for iPod and iTunes... Anyone have any idea what I can do?

ok, so this is what I did. I reinstalled itunes, prevented aperture from starting, but got the same scenario.
then I just left the iphone sitting for minutes, and eventually it showed up in itunes. second time around just the same, it takes minutes for the phone to be recognized.
1.1.4 is labeled as current software though. but after reading some of the posts here regarding iphone 2g wit firmware 2.0 i guess that's ok.

  • ITunes becomes unresponsive when tracks added to playlist

I've had trouble with iTunes (10.3.1) for a long time. When I add tracks to a playlist iTunes often becomes unresponsive for a few minutes, even if it's just a couple of short tracks (mp3s), and sometimes it doesn't recover and has to be forced quit.
I have the Sound Check option unchecked. My library is around 49,000 tracks.
    Any ideas?
    Thomas

I'd love an answer to this, too. Running itunes 10.1.1.4 and iOS 4 on a 3GS phone. I haven't upgraded to iOS 4.2 because the original update to 4 was a disaster.

  • Itunes becomes unresponsive when trying to start a rented movie

    as the title says.
I really don't want to waste 4 dollars on a movie that won't play, the 24 hour countdown has started 10 minuntes ago from this post.
I have Itunes for my windows 7 computer i have 8 gigs of ram and plenty of space on my hard drive and an i7 processor, there should be absoulutly no problem playing a movie....but there is.
Help from someone knowlegable would be appreciated and not from some nobody.
    thanks in advance,
(angry customer who always has problems with technology) aka me

I just installed it on a Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, Dell Vostro machine (less than a year old), Intel Core i5 ivy bridge processor and 4 Gigabytes of RAM. The only other program running is Excel 2013 64bit.
I just installed iTunes and has become unresponsive twice. I cannot move it, change it nor close it. The first time it also made all Windows 8 apps and desktop apps unusable. This is in no way a good sign of stability from Apple's part. Please, make it as stable (or close) as it is on Macs.

  • Itunes becomes unresponsive when connecting iphone/going into preference

    Hi!
When I open Itunes it works fine, but it becomes completely unresponsive (doesn't crash, just stuck and does not responds) when I either connect my device (which is recognised by my PC W7 62bit) or when I try to go into preference via the edit tab (same results)
It worked flawless about a month or two ago, I didn't sync since then until this time around. Have not changed anything, and I tried restarting multiply times, waiting a few days, updating, repairing and reinstalling. What can I do?

A preference file may have gone bad for you. (That can produce both sorts of symptoms.)
I'd try a rebuild of the preferences files.
First, quit iTunes if you have it open.
Next, you'll need to make sure you are set up to view hidden files and folders in Vista (or 7).
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    5. Click OK.
Next, you'll rebuild the preference files. We'll do it one at a time, testing connection of devices and trying to go into the preferences after each one.
    6. In Computer, open Local Disk: C or whichever drive your documents are stored on.
    7. Open the Users folder.
    8. Open the folder with the name of the Vista user account in which Pat is getting the Books tab hang.
    9. Open the AppData folder.
    10. Open the Local folder.
    11. Open the Apple Computer folder.
    12. Drag the iTunes folder out onto the Desktop.
Now you'll rebuild the preference folder and file.
    13. Launch iTunes. This will cause iTunes to rebuild that preference folder and file. The license agreement will appear for you again. (That is expected behavior when that particular preference folder and contained file are being rebuilt.)
    14. Go "Edit > preferences, and check to see if there's a hang
    15. Attach the device and check to see if there's a hang.
If there's still a hang, you can replace the "rebuilt" iTunes pref folder with the one on the desktop again. Then we'll try rebuilding the other preference files.
    16. In Computer, open Local Disk: C or whichever drive your documents are stored on.
    17. Open the Users folder.
    18. Open the folder with the name of the Vista user account in which Pat is getting the Books tab hang.
    19. Open the AppData folder.
    20. Open the Roaming folder.
    21. Open the Apple Computer folder.
    22. Drag the iTunes folder out onto the Desktop.
Now we'll rebuild that one ...
    23. Launch iTunes. This will cause iTunes to rebuild that preference folder and file. The iTunes Setup assistant will run. (That is expected behavior when that particular preference folder and contained file are being rebuilt.) *Do not add any files when prompted to do so.* Otherwise you'll end up with a library full of duplicates.
    24. Go "Edit > preferences", and check to see if there's a hang.
    25. Attach the device, and check to see if there's a hang.
Any better luck with rebuilding the second set of preferences? (If no joy, the ones on the desktop now can be swapped out for the rebuilt (Roaming) set.

  • ITunes freezes and becomes unresponsive when I plug in my iPad.

I have Windows 7, and iTunes works perfectly fine, until I plug in my iPad or any device (I have a iPod touch 4 generation and iPhone 4s). The second I plug in my iPad, iTunes completely freezes and becomes unresponsive. It also becomes unresponsive when I try to go to Preferences. I have to go to task manager to force iTunes to close, but if I unplugged my iPad, iTunes becomes responsive after a couple minutes.
I have researched this problem multiple times, and it seems several others are experiencing the same problem. I have tried their suggested advice, and it did not work for me. I have tried many methods to solving the solution, but it freezes up so quickly I can't even access my iPad on iTunes to ensure that it won't sync automatically. I have also tried holding Ctrl+Shift when plugging it in because iTunes said that way it won't sync automatically. This, however, does not work. iTunes is beginning to become very frustrating. I just really need any advice that will allow me to sync my device ASAP.
I understand there must be some sort of bug in the latest version of iTunes (I also have the latest version of iOS on my iPad and iPhone), but if anyone has any advice as to how to get around this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Apple TV will stream music but will not connect to iTunes library to stream movies or podcasts.  During the unsuccessful connection process, iTunes becomes unresponsive and must be forced to quit.

Apple TV 3 will stream music via Home Sharing from iTunes on Mac running 10.6.8 but will not connect to iTunes library to stream movies or podcasts.  When trying to connect, iTunes becomes unresponsive and must be forced to quit.  ATV will stream movies purchased through the ATV but not those purchased through or ripped/copied onto the Mac.  I've tried fixes suggested for similar problems (rebooting ATV and Mac, signing out then back into iTunes Store) to no success.  Any suggestions will be appreciated.

This is the most bogus example of Apple rip-off EVER.  They do not advertise this *feature* and yet expect people to invest in an Apple ECOSYSTEM?  My experience with Apple TV using a central media "server" (a dedicated Mac Mini) has been atrocious.  I continually get "Cannot connect..." messages and with typical Apple "it just works" mentality, there is no reason stated.  I HATE APPLE TV and I HATE APPLE.  Peddle your crapple somewhere else.

I encountered the same exact problem when I attempted to re-installed OSX Lion on an old laptop. The date was set back in 2000, which rendered the certificate obsolete. Here's how I fixed it:
From the recovery menu, select the Terminal application. Run the 'date' command to confirm the date is wrong, then set the correct date using this command: date {month}{day}{hour}{minute}{year}
e.g. date 1219195613
Exit terminal (type exit). Retry the installation.

    Hi
I had same problem, see my post or spyde683 post at link below, this cured my issue.
The SyncService folders are not visible in Mavericks 10.9.3 but are if you follow spyder683 post.

  • Why does the Yosemite Finder become unresponsive when moving a file within my USB Flash stick?

Why does the Yosemite Finder become unresponsive when moving a file within my USB Flash stick? I have to Relaunch the Finder to get it working again.
    Background / other symptoms:
The Flash drive in question has been formatted HFS.
I get no error messages, including on the Console, and no sound indicators.
I can copy files, using the Finder, from a hard-drive to the usb flash drive with no problem.
Finder copying on this stick works just fine on my other Mac.
I can move files within another (FAT32-formatted) USB flash drive.
The quirky USB HFS Flash drive works fine on my other Mac.
Outside of the Finder, I can use mv just fine to move the files on the HFS flash drive.
If the HFS-formatted Flash drive were faulty, I would at least expect some sort of error in the Console app, but perhaps not from the Finder.

  • I just installed latest updates and now itunes becomes unresponsive after 10-15 minutes

The latest OSX update (Security Update 2013-003) perhaps is breaking itunes.  It becomes unresponsive after 10-15 minutes and I have to force quit it each time.

with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • InDesign becomes unresponsive when editing text off the network. Techs are flummoxed!

Recently my InDesign (CS6 running on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, 8gb ram) has become almost totally unresponsive when I go to open and edit a file off the company network. Our techs have no idea what is going on and are considering having to re-build my profile as a last resort as we have tried everything else.
A bit more of a descriptoin of the problem: When I go to edit an InDesign file off the server it first takes longer than normal to load but eventually does. You can scroll up and down the pages, move and resize boxes, place new pictures but as soon as you try to do anything text based (edit new text or make a new text box) the whole program freezes to the point you have to task manager out and kill it. It is not a corupt file because if I copy the file directory with all links over on to my computers local hard disk the file works totally fine it is only when editing over the network and when edouble clicking to edit text.
What we have done to try and fix the problem:
    Reinstal InDesign - No effect
Cleared the preferences (shift + ctrl + alt + windows key on InDesign startup) - No effect
Our techs have tried editing my profile registry to no avail and we are all compleatly at a loss to what is going on. There are several other instances of the program across the company (mainly versions 5.5 and one other 6) and they all work fine editing files straight off the network.
Anyone have any idea what it could be, such a specific problem being only when it is editing text based areas? The techs dont want to have to re-build my profile as it is a lot of back end work to do to be able to re-instate it straight away.
Many thanks in advance for any insights into the issue

So we have finally fixed the issue and are currently cracking out the bubbly!
It turned out to be the network path shotcut I was using to access the shared drive where I was editing the files from. I work for a restaurant so we have a shared drive where each site can access their files, this is where the food menu files reside and I had created a shortcut that, although accessed the correct area did it using a path which had a double backslash in it.
The true path for the shared drive is  \\hm\mydocs\restaurant\menufile.indd and this is the shortcut I was using to open the file up from. For all other files like Word, Excel, even other Adobe programs like PSE10, and Lightroom it seems to work fine. For some reason InDesign does not like this path with the double backslash in. As soon as I changed the shortcut path to just m:\ (the letter of the shared drive on the network) everything was working again and we can all sleep, it was driving us mental. Re-installed windows, InDesign created a new network user profile the works.
I hope this may help someone else in a similar situation in the future

  • GarageBand becoming unresponsive when clicking 'Share' menu

So, I'm done with my project, and I need to get it out of GB. When I click the Share menu, GB hangs and becomes unresponsive. I have to resort to Force Quit.
I've replicated this 5 or 6 times now. Anyone else having the same issue?

I created a small loop based tune of about 50 secs yesterday. Touch wood, I could share it successfully to iTunes and also write on disk, no issues.
    I'm on GB 11 and os 10.6.4

  • Optical drive becomes unresponsive when burning media to a disc

When I try to burn an iTunes playlist to a blank disc, the optical drive becomes unresponsive and heats up. Instead of burning media to the disc, the progress bar in the iTunes window becomes stuck on "Burning disc.....Initializing". The optical drive only settles down when the disc is "force ejected". Anyone else having similar trouble? Any help and tips are greatly appreciated.

Your best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  Demonstrate the problem to the technician and they should be able to determine if there is a serious problem or not.
    Ciao.
