ITunes broken forever?!

Whenever i click iTunes to open it this message comes up : 'this application has failed to start because DSOUND.dll was not found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem' I have tried re-installing and it still does not work. I need iTunes back!
Help me please!

As long as nothing else is missing.
This is what you can do:
Go to http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?dsound
Download the Dsound.dll and after that is downloaded, extract that to C:\Windows\System\
Then I would restart the computer and try iTunes again.

  • ITunes takes forever to open!!

When I open iTunes in my Dock, it takes at least five minutes to open. I timed it tonight. This is a fairly recent problem, maybe for the last month or so. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this could be because I have a LOT of iPhone Applications in iTunes now?
I'm also having problems with other apps on my Mac, such as iPhoto running very slow, but only iTunes takes forever to open. iPhoto opens quickly, freezes a lot while using it, and takes several minutes to close, probably due to having over 20,000 photos in it.
So I'm thinking the iTunes problem probably isn't related to the iPhoto problems.
Also, I just did an "Archive and Install" with the Leopard OS at the advice of an Apple store Genius, but it didn't fix or change anything. In fact, the Install took six hours, which I believe is longer than normal.
Does anyone know if a large amount of App store apps in iTunes can affect how long it takes to open?
Or should I be asking this question at the iPhone forum?
    Thanks in advance, Deb

Hello back, and thank you both for responding. I had no idea there was two separate iTunes forums. I guess I'll go post to the right one.
I'm the only Mac user in a house of PC users, so my three guys are no help to me. Well, one of them has a Macbook, but he uses his desktop PC the most. Anyway...
I have 50 Gigs left on my hard drive and that's only because I had to do two "Archive and Installs" on my iMac last week. That left me with over 20 gigs in two "Previous System Folders". I'm going to delete them eventually to get that space back, but my problems were happening before when I had almost 75 gigs, and are still happening now. Nothing has changed.
My iTunes has maybe 10 gigs of stuff total, with most of it music, then maybe iPhone applications (probably 2 or 3 gigs), but only one short 45 minute video, and a couple of podcasts. Nothing else. I'm a middle aged mom, so I'm not much into iTunes except for my iPhone stuff.
So, I'm confused by iTunes reluctance to open, but will go post on the Mac iTunes forum.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to me!
    Greatly appreciated... Deb

  • Stuck in "Accessing iTunes Store" forever

ever since I updated to ATV 2.1, anytime I try to rent a movie, it gets stuck in the "Accessing iTunes Store" forever. I heard of people watching that screen for 10 minutes or so before going on, but I let it run for about 8 hours last night and still no joy.
I have been able to stream video podcasts, including recent ones.
Anybody having the same problem? Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks

Yeah this is a pretty messed up bug for a company that has shifted it's focus on consumer downloads. I unplug it and it works, but the next time it wont again... a continuously recurring problem.
It is seriously discouraging me from buying or renting anything, which is probably a good thing.

    Hi Guys,
I hope you can help me with this one.
I just installed the 10.8.2 update trough App Store, then it asked me to restart my computer... During the restart some error message appeared saying that the installation could not be completed due to an unexpected error, and then restarted my computer automatically.
The problem is, now both my App Store and iTunes are broken, here are the details of the error message I get when I try to launch App Store either normally or using the Apple > Software Update menu option:

  • ITunes takes forever to load

When i first got my computer and installed iTunes, everything worked fine. then when my Norton internet security expired it really slowed down. like it takes 10 minutes to just go to the iTunes homepage, ON A GOOD DAY. About a month ago i installed Norton 360 (better than the one before) and iTunes still takes forever! Does anyone have any help?

No help - but I have the same problem. Not only does it take forever to load but once it has loaded it takes forever to move around the library

  • A LOT of iTunes broken links/tracks after Music folder move...

So yeah, I'm getting a TON of broken links / dead track links in iTunes after having to do two things to my iTunes install recently and I'm at wits end trying to fix it.
I keep my iTunes Music Folder on an external and share the iTunes library between my work Macbook Pro and my home Macbook. Every Friday I drag my iTunes folder and all contents from my MBP onto an external and replace the iTunes folder on the 'weekend' MB, then do the same back on Monday. I keep my iTunes music 'View' as 'Date Added' so that I can always be listening to whatever is newest. It's how I roll.
Well, this week I had some data problems during the transfer and had to use a previous week's iTunes Music Folder, which was fine as I hadn't added much this week.
I also got a new external because the old one was getting a little shady, so after doing the iTunes Music Folder replacement I moved my music all over to a new external drive, told iTunes where it all was at. iTunes did it's thing, 'organized' my stuff and all seemed good - until I got back deeper into the catalogue of music and started getting a LOT of broken tracks. The songs are still there, in the correct folders and all, but for some reason iTunes isn't finding them.
When I say a LOT, I mean so far it's hundreds of my 13,000 songs.
Now I COULD use the 'Super Remove Dead Tracks' script from Doug's to find all the broken files then re-add the whole library, but it will add all the old songs out of order because they will get a new 'Added' date.
I could also manually move thru my whole library holding down the arrow key for 'Next' to find all the broken links then go thru, select them, and use the 'iTunes Track CPR' script from Doug's to re-add them to the library with ratings intact, but still they will be out of order time-wise.
I cannot find a script that will parse my library, find broken links, and re-associate them with their tracks, nor can I figure out why this happened and any other way to fix it. Repairing permissions hasn't helped. Any other ideas?

Just to follow up with a more comprehensive example of looping through a Library to detect & repair "missing" file-tracks:
    <pre>
    property kErrAENoSuchObject:(-1728)
    on run
    tell (application "iTunes")
set theLibraryPlaylist to (first library playlist)
    tell theLibraryPlaylist
set theNumCandidateFileTracks to (count (every file track))
repeat with i from 1 to theNumCandidateFileTracks by 1
    -- Get a reference to this file-track
set thisFileTrackRef to (file track i)
-- Get this file-track's info (useful for debugging, etc.)
set thisArtist to (artist of thisFileTrackRef)
set thisAlbum to (album of thisFileTrackRef)
set thisName to (name of thisFileTrackRef)
    set thisFileTrackInfo to (thisArtist & " > " & thisAlbum & " > " & thisName)
    -- Display a diagnostic message every 500th file-track
    if ((i mod 500) = 0) then
    tell me
    display dialog ("Checking file-track #" & i & ": " & ¬

-- {!!! NOTE: Due to a bug in iTunes 7.x+ (esp. when downloading), AS might
    -- be unable to access the 'location' field of some file-tracks !!!}
    try
set thisFileTrackTargetFile to (location of thisFileTrackRef)
    on error errMsg2 number errNum2
-- Check whether it's that bizarre error: (-1728) "Can't get location of …"
if (errNum2 = (kErrAENoSuchObject of me)) then
-- Set up to just skip this track (assume it's being downloaded)
set thisFileTrackTargetFile to (anything) -- (Other than 'missing value')

    error errMsg2 number errNum2

  • IPad and iTunes taking forever to sync out of the blue

My iPad synced in 'normal' time, just under 10 minutes, yesterday. Today, the syncing is taking forever! Appears that a completely new backup was done, and now it barely moves. I did not download anything to iPad between these syncs. I used it, charged it, and shut it down and restarted it. Any suggestions?

    HI...
In the iTunes window with the Summary tab selected, check the bottom of that window to make sure there's enough free space available.
If there's enough space, check out the information here for managing content manually.

  • Re Download Music From iTunes (Broken Files)

    Hello,
I just bought some songs from iTunes store. But I got a broken files (the last 20 seconds of the song is not working). How can I re download it? Thanks!

Delete the current copies and then download again (free) from your purchased history. If the problem persists contact iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history.

  • HT1212 Passcode-itunes-broken touchscreen

What if my touch screen is broken and i have a passcode and i want to hook it up to itunes?

If you connect it to iTunes on the last computer the phone was synced to you can make a backup of it to restore after the screen is repaired or the phone is replaced.

  • SL and iTunes broken iPhone sync

I get this message when I plug my iPhone into the cradle:
"The Phone [my phone's name] cannot be synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
It still manages to sync most of the info, including podcasts and music. I cannot tell what ISN'T being synced.
Just upgraded to iTunes 9 and it's still broken. This has occurred ever since SL was installed (clean, then used Migration Assistant). My only login is Administrator, I have repaired permissions (several times), done a Keychain repair, Applied my permissions to all iTunes-related folders in Library and deleted prefs and cannot find the source of this.

Figured it out by process of elimination of sync services: a folder of photos had bad permissions.

  • ITunes taking forever to burn a CD

I recorded a CD yesterday without any problem.
today I have tried to burn another one and iTunes is taking forever, stuck at the stage of "finishing".
The only thing i have done differently wat that i ticked the box to record CD track names today.
    iTunes 10.6.3
Running OS 10.5.8 on a G4 Power PC.
    Any help welcome,
    C. W.

    Thanks Cali.
I eventually lost patience, tried to stop burning the CD, but that hung too.
Force quit iTunes, tried to restart the computer, failed, forced a shut down, restarted, ran disc utility.
The CD after all that remained blank, and I was able to record onto it later, though I had meantime made myself a CD on another computer.
Just to play safe I did not this time tick the check box for CD track names, and I recorded it slowly (8x).
    Hey ho.

  • I try to turn Home Sharing back on and it Accesses iTunes Store Forever

My Apple TV was using home sharing perfectly fine. At some point my home computer simply stopped showing up. I tried rebooting it and my computer and nothing made it show up. I then tried turning off Home Sharing with the intent of turning it back on again. I put in my password, hit the button and it just goes to "Accessing iTunes Store..." forever. It never turns it on successfully.  Now I can't stream anything. I also tried uninstalling and re-installing the latest iTunes but I get the same result.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Darryl

Ok actually my mistake it says "an error occurred during activation. try again" I spoke with apple tech support right now and she mentioned they are having trouble with there servers.  Do you by any chance know what the restrictions area means? Should that be activated or deactivated, does that make a difference?

  • Apple TV is "Loading" from my iTunes library forever

The first day I used my new Apple TV, everything worked fairly well. Today, however, when I select my iTunes Home Sharing library under the "Computers" menu, I get UI that says 'Loading "MyComputerName"' accompanied by a spinning icon-- which sits there and spins forever.
It never finishes loading my movies and music. I do have over 1,000 videos in iTunes but it shouldn't take that long to load the playlists.
What's going on and is anyone else seeing this problem? Why is Apple TV too stupid to handle this error?

I have spent the last hour trying to simply watch a movie in my bedroom. Something that use to take 1 minute by popping a DVD in. This is probably the 20th time this has happened. I WANT MY TIME BACK APPLE!!!! You're not part of the solution any more. You're creating more problems. I've been a fan of Apple for 30 yrs and everything I have is Apple including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, MacMini, IMac, Mac Pro, Airport, iPhone, & ipad. The reason you are proprietary is so things work together. WELL, FIX IT! Can you at least tell me while I'm waiting what AppleTV is doing when it says "Loading Library" for up to an hour. Is it trying to make connection? Is it downloading data? Instead I sit there wondering what could be causing the problem. You are obviously waisting thousands of combined human hours that should have been worked out in your R&D. I WANT MY TIME BACK!
I would think it is my configuration or the amount of movies I have in my library but it work fine with the old AppleTV. I could always count on clicking the remote for instant access. Now it's a crap shoot. Please someone from Apple tell me there is a solution that will not waste any more of my time. Is it the new Home Sharing that is causing it? Can I go back to connecting without home sharing?

i found a 30g ipod classic today and i figured it was broken but i tried plugging it in to see what was on it and its not syncing. it turns on and charges but it just gives the 'do not disconnect' screen. and when i unplug it a screen comes up that says 'connect to your computer. use itunes to restore.' and then like 4 different languages saying the same thing. it also doesnt get recognized by my computer. it seems like something could be functional i just dont know where to start to try and fix it. any ideas?

Do the iPod disk diagnostic on your iPod, as in this excellent earlier post by tt2.
