ITunes can no longer find my files from external Library

I have a PC using Windows 7, I have had my iTunes library stored on an external drive for ages and it has been working brilliantly. I have recently done some updates both for iTunes and my 3rd gen iPad, tried to sync some different movies to my iPad and iTunes can't find my files any more. The location of my library had reverted to the local drive, I tried to change it back but to no avail. The files are still on the external drive, when I try to open them with iTunes manually, iTunes tries to open but then says a problem has occured and it must terminate, it offers to find a solution online but (after the first time when it said an update was available to fix the problem and i downloaded it) it then just closes. The version of iTunes is 10.7.0.21 on the iPad, I am running iOS 6.0.1

Locate and remove the iPod Photo Cache folder(s). A new one will be recreated the next time you sync Photos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library, but may solve your sync problem.

After yesterday's "update", iTunes can no longer find and play my music library.  It points to the correct location in "Advanced", but clearly iTunes is not actually seeing it.  What gives?  And why does Apple force these constant updates that just screw up everything?  It was all working fine yesterday before I ran the update.

Does anyone know where I can get support for this issue?

That did the trick! Thank you.
The free trial is all I needed to migrate my iPod Touch library into my main iTunes library. For those that want to use this tool for the same needs there are some things that need to be moved manually, e.g. Apps. But you can do it within the program very easily. Also iBooks/PDFs etc. need to be moved manually. The help section will point you in the right direction.
No more switching iTunes libraries for me.

If they are showing in the Videos app with a cloud then go into Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and set Videos (under the 'Show All') heading 'off' - you might (depending upon which country that you arein) have a similar button for music and the Music app.

  • I subscribed for itunes imatch - it works perfectly on my i-pad and iPhone - however on my macbook - my iTunes can no longer find my songs - i don't know how to make it look to the cloud to play my music

i subscribed for itunes imatch - it works perfectly on my i-pad and iPhone - however on my macbook - my iTunes can no longer find my songs - i don't know how to make it look to the cloud to play my music - i think it keeps trying to find on the external harddrive where i used to keep my music

Of course iTunes is looking for the music on the external HDD. Enabling iTunes Match does not magically change the location of the iTunes library to the cloud.
To play the music either plug the external HDD back into your computer or create a new, empty library to use for streaming the iTM content. The latter can be accomplished by holding down the Option key when launching iTunes, choosing "create library" then enabling iTunes Match on the new library. DO NOT have iTunes scan your HDD for music.

To configure the browser to use Acrobat or Adobe Reader to open PDF files:
    1. Quit Internet Explorer(any other browser)
    2. Start Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
    3. Choose Edit > Preferences.
    4. Select Internet in the list on the left.
    5. Deselect(Uncheck) Display PDF in Browser, and click OK.

  • I can no longer import raw files from my Panasonic Lumix LX5 into Aperture 3.3.2 - raw files from my other Canon cameras are fine. Am still running Lion - NOT Mountain Lion. Tried all available software updates - no joy. Any ideas please?

I can no longer import raw files from my Panasonic Lumix LX5 into Aperture 3.3.2 - raw files from my other Canon cameras are fine. Am still running Lion (10.7.4) - NOT Mountain Lion. Tried all available software updates - all up to date apparently but still no joy. OS X Lion shows the LX5 as a supported file format. I dont want to have to upgrade to Mountain Lion just to see if this solves the problem. Any ideas please.

Since when did this happen? Directly after you upgraded to Aperture 3.3.2?
If it happened directly after the upgrade the problem may be, that the raw support for your camera got lost. For some posters it helped to register the raw support again, see this post by Alan Roseman:
Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish
If this does not help, you may need to reinstall Lion to bring back the raw support.
But if the problem occured independent of a new installation, ypu may have a problem with your camera or the card you are using. Have you tried to use a different card or to reformat the card in the camera?

  • My iMac can no longer find one of the external hard drive

My iMac can no longer find one of the external hard drive. It was finding it once in awhile and during one of those times I ran Disk Utility and all was OK. Any ideas?

Well duh.  I restarted the router and then it was able to find the printer.  There you go.  Thanks.

  • Can No Longer Drag JPG files From Finder Directly Into .fla Stage?

For the past six months I have been following a manual process to convert JPG files (exported from InDesign) into SWF files for display advertising assets.
Using pre-built FLA files as templates (configured with clicktags):
Open FLA templates (3 separate files for 3 IAB ad sizes)
Drag JPG from Finder directly into stage of FLA file, aligned to
Publish to output folder for renaming
Today, for no apparent reason, I can no longer drag anything into the stage of any FLA file.  Not just the pre-built templates.  Nothing will drag & drop into an FLA stage.
    What I have tried:
    Restarted Mac
    Reset Flash preferences
What I know I can still do:
Drag files from Finder into the Library, and drag into FLA stage from there
    "File > Import to Stage..."
This works but because of my naming convention it prompts to import them all each time because Flash sees the sequence
This is not another step I am willing to contend with for my manual workflow
Me and my creative team need to process hundreds of assets like this each week, so I'm very anxious to discover why functionality that was working, suddenly stopped.
    Running:
    MacBookPro Retina OS X 10.8.5
    Flash CS6 v. 12.0.2.529

just want to add my annoyance to the pile here. I can't see any logic behind removing the drag and drop function, especially when adding a new folder is now a multi-step process that is far from obvious. to start a new playlist with local folder content you now need to:enter settingsclick into advanced settings (basically all settings now seem to be "advanced"?)manually find and add the foldergo through the adventure of finding the files in your library.
-- because they may or may not be listed under "local files" - you won't know because Ctrl+F is also removed. so you have to remember/know what the album you added is called and search for that. if you have a mixed bag of file names from various albums, you're basically shafted; there's no way to find them all with a single search.then you can add them to playlisteta: but wait! there's more! if you have more than 15 files? you're **bleep** out of luck, because the search will only display the first 15 hits among your local files, and then show you spotify library tracks.I can't help but feel as though spotify is doing everything they can to stop us using spotify to listen to local files, as bugs that make it more or less impossible persist through multiple versions - and now features that seem to me to be basic functionality are being removed?mega minus points from someone who's been using spotify since 2008.

  • Pages only offered a save version option and after closing I can no longer find the file

After finishing my 21 page document, I exported to PDF changing the file name. Opened the file menu, noted that there was no save option only save a version and then closed the document, presuming the autosave would have worked as usual. I can now no longer find the file.
Can I recover it? Have I done something wrong as I never have had this concern before.

If I recall right you can always get Save or Save as by Press Option key when clicking on the File menu.
The problem is that you can't find the file. i am not the right person to help you as i still rather use Snow Leopard then the newer MacOs versions.

  • ITunes can no longer find my iPhoto - no iPhone photo sync ability...help!?

Hello...okay, some data - I am currently running Lion and all the latest software updates, I am also running multiple users on this iMac, I am also sharing the iPhoto library using the "Shared Library" method.  My wifes iPhone (via her own account on the iMac) does access the iPhoto library properly from iTunes and she IS able to choose certain albums to sync (instead of the "All photos,..." option).  I cannot.  Please see the screenshot I took:
Please note that the "Selected albums,..." option is greyed out and despite the radio button on "All..." being selected, no photos sync, ala, the error message.
It's as if my iTunes account no longer sees the Shared iPhoto file and refuses to "reconnect" to it...
iPhoto runs fine and launches from my account without issue...even launches when I connect my iPhone and download photos and videos.  So, like I say, I feel like it's iTunes no longer thinking I have a valid iPhoto running.
Both my iPad and iPhone give me this message.  Think it has something to do with permissions, but have run a permissions fix both from the Disk Utility and from booting holding down the Command +R method, and then using Utilities, Terminal and Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs.
I feel like my whole user account is kinda screwed ever since the migration to Lion, but a Lion reinstall did not fix it and I am not quite ready to start from scratch with a new userID...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • ITunes can no longer read WAV files that QuickTime still can

    Hello,
I don't known what happened, but iTunes doesn't want to read some of my WAV files anymore. The strangest thing is that QuickTime still does read them. But when I double-click on the track in iTunes, it moves immediately to the next one in the list.
Here are some of the details about the WAV files given by iTunes:
    WAV
    64kbps
    16'000 kHZ
    Mono
    4-bits
    DVI IMA
Thanks in advance for your insights

Yes, I its low-quality voice recording.
When I try to convert one of these WAV files to MP3, I get an error message that says that iTunes can either not read from or write to the disk.
Something must have changed in an update to iTunes. I was sent such a WAV file by email a while ago; at the time, I had managed to convert it to MP3 using iTunes. I dug up this WAV file from my email archive, and now iTunes cannot convert it to MP3 nor play it anymore.
    Thanks for your insight.

  • How can I delete an old file from my library on iTunes

Occasionally I have to replace PDF manuals with ones that have been updated.  But after I sync the new file the old one remains on my Mac itunes library.  How can I delete the old file?  So far all I do is deselect the old file but it's still there.  Sooner or later there will be more old files then current ones making it hard to manage.
    Thanks in advance.

You can do this with or without the iPad connected to your Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac. Click on Books under the Library heading. Click on the PDFs. Then click on the PDF that you want to delete in order to select it, and go to Edit>Delete and follow the on screen prompts.
if you are using iTunes 11 and do not have the sidebar enabled, and wish to do so, go to View>Show sidebar or use the keyboard shortcut OPTION+Command+S.
If you do not want to enable the sidebar, the library items can be accessed in the button in the upper left corner of the iTunes window.

  • Itunes can no longer find artist or album name

I have not seen this exact problem on the forum. I upgraded itunes yesterday to 10 and then when I synced my ipod touch, almost all of the artist names and album names disappeared. I tried several times to get info and this retrieved some of the information but now it says that it can't get the track information for music not purchased from the itunes store or ripped through itunes. The problem is that all of my music was either purchased from itunes or ripped through itunes except one album. Does anyone have this same problem or can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Locate and remove the iPod Photo Cache folder(s). A new one will be recreated the next time you sync Photos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library, but may solve your sync problem.

  • Can't permanently delete song file from external hard drive

    Hi Guys,
I want to be able to delete actual song files from my external hard drive as well as from my iTunes library in one easy, lazy step, via the iTunes window. I am not interested in finding and manually deleting the files through my external hard drive.
When I hit delete it only deletes the song from my iTunes library but not the actual destination music file aswell (from my external hard drive). I am aware this is because my external hard drive is not the original "Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" destination that the apple crew have designed and so I am not offered the option of sending the file to the recycle bin or "trashing it" when I hit the delete key (this permanently deletes the file).
I am also aware that I can find the music file destinations and delete them through the iTunes window by hitting "CTRL & R" or by the "show in windows explorer" command. I am not interested in these options either.
Basically, I have 20,000 songs to clean up and don't want to have to take my laptop with me to my grave...
I suspect there is some way of changing things around, possibly via some particular parameters to be set in the "Edit" > "Preferences" > "iTunes Music Folder Desintation" command area but still haven't been able to crack it.
Any help would be welcomed with open arms.
    Cheers.
    Labia.

    Camoracer,
You are right. Pardon me. The majority of the music that I was trying to delete off my external hard drive was in a separate folder (on the external hard drive), not in the directory specified in my iTunes preference settings.
    Problem solved!!!
This should also be a lesson to those who believe a one step delete function (from iTunes library and actual music file) is not possible when the music files are stored on an external hard drive (or other storage medium for that matter). I have read a host of other forums who say a one step delete function is not possible without additional software.. Perhaps these posts were from the authors of the software trying to make a $.
    Cheers.
