Itunes can not back up iphone.

I have a iphone 3GS with 4.2.1 IOS, my itunes 10.l keeps responding with an error message durning sync. "itunes cannot backup iphone error occurred. " What can I do to resolve this? Thank you.

The only other suggestion is restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
You are 100% correct.
Iv'e battled with this for 7 hours today.
You have no idea how long recovery restart is going to take, and then never does.
In final attempt, restore as a new phone after updating to 4.2.1 not using any previous backup.
If backup was tried, it only locked up any attempt of iPhone to recover on restart.
If progress bar stops within 1/4" during restart, that's the only clue that it will not recover
using backup during restore.
After phone recovers as new, one should check to make sure all previous
backups are removed from list.
Strange that Apple gives no real time process when going from 3.1.3 to 4.2.1.
It could have smoothly been done in less than an hour.

    Close iTunes & navigate to:
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
and delete everything in that Backup folder, but not the folder itself.

My phone is the iPhone4 and my computer is a Windows Vista

I doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction.

  • Itunes could not back up iphone because backup could not be saved on the PC

I am not able to backup my iphone. After the last step it always comes up with this message "itunes could not back up iphone because backup could not be saved on the computer" . I tried all solutions mentioned earlier like changing time zone, deleting previous backups & manually backing up, changing user admin, running itunes as an admin, etc .
I guess my problem lies in the Camera roll. I deleted all my pictures in it and I am left with 3 images. I guess they are corrupt as I am not able to delete them. When I try to delete them from iphone gallery, it crashes. When I try to delete it from external devices like when its connected to PC, same problem occurs, cant delete these 3 pictures. I guess they are corrupt.
Can you please let me know what to do.I dont know want to restore to factory settins

Ok I tried to delete the backup by using your location via preferences, but I did not find any file, maybe because I've already deleted following the path to the disk. I repeat that I have 2 devices and the problem only occurs on one

My iphone and Mac and iTunes are all up to date.

    Excellent!
    Please note the following:
Note: iCloud Backup does not back up music, movies, and TV shows that you did not purchase from the iTunes Store, or any podcasts, audio books, or photos that you originally synced from your computer. iCloud Backup will restore your purchased music, movie, and app content from the iTunes and App Stores during the background restore process. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
The above comes from this article:
Choosing an iOS backup method (Should I use iTunes or iCloud to back up my iOS device?)
    Best of luck with this.

  • Itunes could not back up iPhone

iTunes could not back up iPhone "name" because an error occurred.
Not on the computer and not in the Cloud. When I try to sync I always get this message.
    I have a iPhone 4S with version 6.1.2 / iMac 2012 with 10.8.2 / iTunes version 11.0.2
I also have an iPad3 which does a sync and/or back up on the same computer without problem.
I disables Wi-Fi Sync, deleted the backup file at preferences/device - I only see my iPad back up.
I don't have any password protected apps or advanced security.
    Help would be appreciated!

  • Itune could not back up iphone because a problem occured, what should I do?

I hve gotten a problem, itune can't back up my iphone. I have try many times, it didn't work. Why can't it figure out the exact problem or give any suggestion? I am not the one who create it, am just an end-user. Can any wise and kind person help me please? Does the I-studio staff offer this kind of help? I bought a new Ipone but cannot transfer all my data to the new one. What can I do?

    Thank you for your reply.
    My iTunes is up-to-date.
There is no number, just said "an error occured".
There's no problem on iCloud back up, only take long time.
I have tried this and re-downloaded iTunes, both didn't work.
I have decided to give it all up. From now on I will never keep any important data on my phone. I prefer old-fashioned one better because I like to be independent. Technology is too complicated to understand. Too much headache. Thanks anyway. Goodbye!

  • ITunes can't back up iPhone to iCloud

I don't understand.  If I'm NOT backing up iPhone to my computer, but instead want to back it up to iCloud, why do I get a message in itunes that says "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because not enough free space available on this computer.
But I'm backing up to iCloud just for that reason, because I know I don't have enough space on my computer.  If I did, I'd back up my iPhone to my computer so I have control of it, not the Cloud. But I have no choice for a backup.
Do I not NEED iTunes to back up to iCloud? Do I just back it up via my iPhone??

Forgot -- one simple fix -- reboot phone LOL Done.  iPhone is backing up to iCloud

  • Whenever i try to backup my Iphone 4 i get an error message " Itunes can not backup (my Iphone) because  the backup was corrupted or not compatible with the Iphone"

whenever i try to back up my iphone it gives me an error message "itunes could not back up (my)iphone because backup was corrupted or not compatible with your iphone" i already deleted the itunes backups through the prefrences tab. this has not helped. what am i doing wrong?

I have the same question and the only reply I've found on the forum was "change the USB hub", which HASN'T worked. So I am accepting new suggestions. Tks!

  • Error messages "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup may be corrupted..." "1 item could not be synced. See iTunes for more information. Not syncing music.

I'm a recent iPhone 4 user and I just upgraded through AT&T to the 16gb iPhone 5s. The employee at the AT&T store who hooked my family up with phones, told me I could start out with a new phone or back it up to my iPhone 4. So I get home and it takes awhile to back up both phones, so after half an hour, I noticed that my Nirvana albums "In Utero" and "Nirvana" were not syncing. In Utero has twelve tracks, and it would not sync the twelfth track "All Apologies", it would ultimately stop at that track. It would also not sync AT ALL the late Nirvana album. Now, I've tried backing them both up again and I tried updating both phones. But it was only Nirvana not being synced. Now my whole library is corrupt. I have four artists on my phone, six albums, and 78 songs total. That isn't really much...
I really need help, this is frustrating me because I literally live off of music. I love my new iPhone, I really do, but I've tried literally everything under the sun to sync my music. That's the only problem.
    Thanks to anyone who helps.

Same problem here too... it's driving me nuts. I share an imac with my boyfriend and we both have iphones and never had a problem syncing or backing up. Then, suddenly, we get the message stated above... but only when backing up HIS phone, a 3GS (mine is a 3G). We have tried everything:
Deleting the backups and trying to create new
Changing permissions on all of the backup folders once, twice, 3 times over...
Changing the name of the backup folder so that iTunes creates a new backup folder
Creating a new user account for him in the mac os with his own iTunes backup folder and his own permissions.
NONE of these things worked. The closest we got was in the last attempt of creating a new user account, where it actually CREATED the backup (there is a backup file in the proper folder that is about 4gb in size) but we still get the error message at the end, and the backup is not found in iTunes under device preferences.
This is extremely frustrating to say the least and I hope somewhere out there has a solution.

  • HT201263 iPhone 4 is in recovery mode but iTunes can not restore it.. Says unknown error occurred  (21) HELP!

I've just got back of holiday and while there my phone decided to turn itself off, it would not come back on unless I plugged it into the wall charger, it said that I had to connect it to iTunes, but being on holiday I couldn't.
So when I got home yesterday I plugged it into my laptop and the Apple logo came on, and then went off again, then back on and off again, it was doing this untill I unplugged it. So I put it into recovery mode and it said Connect to iTunes, so I did. It then said that the phone needed to be restored, iTunes started this process, 'extracting software' it said, and then once that was done it said 'preparing iPhone for restore' but then my phone disconnects itself from the laptop and then connects again then disconnects again. Then iTunes comes up with a message saying 'iTunes can not restore this iPhone 'iPhone', a unkown error occured (21)'
I have tried over and over again to try and do this but it keeps coming up with the same.
Does anyone know what's wrong with my iPhone and how I can fix it?
    Thanks

And what did the error message say?
