"Itunes can not connect to this Ipod. An unknown error occurred." I get this message when I plug my Ipod touch into my Imac. I have restored the Ipod and have the latest Itunes. I have tried different cables and a macbook.
I have an Ipod touch 8GB, an Imac and an apple laptop. I have had this Ipod for years and it has been synced at different times to my Imac and laptop. Recently the battery ran way down on my Ipod. I plugged it into my Imac. After it charge I had to restore it. After I restored it Itunes couldn't connect to it because, "An unknown error occurred". I tried to connect it to Itunes on my laptop and got the same error message. I have tried different USB cables. Since Itunes won't connect, I can't do another restore. I don't know what do try from here.
Some additional info that might be related to this. Just before this Ipod problem came up I crashed my hard disk on the Imac. I had to erase it and reload all my stuff (I was able to copy the contents to a hard drive connected to my laptop using the firewire - I couldn't use time machine because of the crashed HD.) My Imac has been restored to the latest Itunes - I am running OSX 10.6.8.

I did put my iPod into DFU and iTunes recognized it in restore mode. After restore I am back where I was before - iTunes cannot connect because of an unknown error.
I have installed Jailbreak to see if I can bypass itunes but haven't succeeded. I can't get my computer to recopgnize the iPod as a device.
I'll take it to a Genius bar next time I am in the area of one. Until then I'll probably continue to try hacks to get it connected.

For the past month or so I've been unable to sync it with iTunes. When I do, it starts but after a few hundred songs, I get the error that "itunes could not copy [song title] because an unknown error occurred (-54). When I click OK, it then says "synching" but nothing is actually happening, and the only way to even get my browser working again is to restart my pc. I have deleted the song in question, but it will just do it again with a different song. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes to the most recent version, reset the iPod Touch numerous times, As well as deleting the iTunes files off of my computer and reloading all the muisc to it. To make things more interesting, it does all of this on my laptop pc as well as my desktop. Now. all of this may have started before upgrading the software, but that was the last time in months that I tried to sync it, so there may or not be a correlatoin there.

I purchased a couple of albums from Amazon and downloaded to Itunes. I have done this many times in the past. I can play the songs on Itunes but when I try to upload that music to my Ipod I get an error message "Itunes could not copy "song" to the Ipod because of an unknown error has occured. I have purchased many albums and songs from Amazon and even the Apple store and never had this problem. Has anyone had this happened and was there a fix to be able to upload the music to the Ipod??? I upgraded to 7.3 yesterday and have got problems since itunes taking ages to load beacuse of updaing library on start up,then the identical error message.The download that I bought last evening is nowhere to be found.I've only got the Ipod (and itunes) about 3wks and I have to say I WAS delighted up to this but this is really spoiling things,any getting the upodate now prompt might want to think twice. Somebody help please!

Quit iTunes.
Open iTunes.
Test the issue.
If it persists, sign in to store.apple.com using your iTunes account
Click on Change account information
Modify or remove your credit card information.
Click Continue.
Test the issue.
If you have I'd try calling AppleCare back and telling the it is error 5002 and already tried troubleshooting steps as listed in TS3297 and that you have already tried to email iTunes support and have yet to recieve a response. -

Did you try restarting it by holding down the hold and lock button at the same time until you get the apple logo? If you already tried that then you should try putting it in DFU mode and doing a restore by following these instructions- http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034
