ITunes Can't Connect (-3212 Error)

I just installed iTunes for my first time today, and when I try to connect to the iTunes Store it gives me an error saying to check my connection.
I was told to go to Help -> Diagnostics -> Network Diagnostics, and follow directions after that, but it didn't help my situation either. I was also told to shut down my computer, unplug router and modem for 5 minutes, then try again, and that too didn't work.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is there something that I'm not doing that I should have done? If it helps any, I'm running Windows XP SP2
Edit: When I do run the diagnostics, these are my results....
Network Interface Status lights up as green (working)
Internet Connection Status lights up as green (working)
iTunes Store Connection Status lights up as red (not working)

lpguy03,
This article gives some information on troubleshooting connections with the iTunes Store.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300870
As for the status lights:
Network Interface Status lights up as green (working)
* iTunes can see your network card is working
Internet Connection Status lights up as green (working)
* iTunes sees you have a valid IP address, and the computer says its connected to the internet
iTunes Store Connection Status lights up as red (not working)
* Privacy filters, DNS information, or a Firewall is preventing iTunes or iTuneshelper.exe to connect to the iTunes Store
If its a DNS issue, this article may help:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304084
This discusses the sites that iTunes needs to be able to contact, and more information about privacy filter issues:

Hope this helps,

Hi ..
Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Make sure your Mac OS X software is up to date.
Disconnect the iPad from your Mac.
Open System Preferences > Software Update > Check Now
If any updates are required, make sure to restart your Mac after the updates are installed then connect your iPad and see if iTunes recognizes it under Devices.

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. You can download it from here -> http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

• ITunes can't connect to the music store or updates.

I've never had this trouble before, and iTunes 7 has worked great for me until now. All of my other programs work fine and my internet connection is working great, but iTune can't connect at all! It worked perfectly until recently, I haven't changed versions or anything. This is confusing so if you have any advice it would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Itunes can not connect with the Itunes store

Every time I try to connect to the ITunes Store an error pops up : Itunes can not connect with the Itunes store. I have downloaded the updated software and have access to the internet. Anyone ever run into this problem?

If it still has problems after trying the steps above, try resetting Winsock. It looks like it worked for a few people in this thread -> With iTunes 10.4 I can access iTunes store.
MTG68 wrote - In windows 7, click on your start menu, go to accessories, right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run as administrator". Once it opens, type in the following command...
netsh winsock reset
hit enter and it should say something like winsock reset successful now reboot your computer.

• ITunes can't connect to iTunes from PC Windows 7

I haven't been active on iTunes for at least a year. In the mean time it has continued to update. I purchased a new iPod shuffle this past week. Finally opened iTunes to get my new Shuffle registered and load some music. Tried to register and got what seems like no connection to Apple. Low and behold iTunes can not connect to the iTunes store, nor anything else from Apple. iTunes program appears to be working fine other than no connection to Apple.com, and I have performed a sync to my new Shuffle w/o problems. I simply get the "accessing iTunes store..." displaying forever.
I have Windows 7, 64bit operating system. Trend Micro Intert Security/antiviral software. I have tried disabling both my Windows firewall and my Trend Micro; however, iTunes still can make no connection. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

• I need to restore my iphone but itunes can't connect because it locked with password. I can't input the password becasue it showing no service and needs to be restored.

I need to restore my iphone but itunes can't connect to it because of my password which I can't input becasue it has no service and needs to be restored. what can I do to restore it? Is there a way to input the password?

You will need to put the iPhone into Recovery Mode to be able to restore it in iTunes.
To put your iPod/iPhone into recovery mode:
1. Make sure the iPod/iPhone is connected to a computer with iTunes installed on it.
2. Hold down the sleep/wake button(top button) and the home button at the same time until the iPod/iPhone screen goes black then shows the apple logo( usually 10-15 seconds).
3. Once the apple logo appears on the screen, let go of the sleep/wake button and keep holding the home button.
4. The ipod/iphone screen should show an itunes logo and usb cable if you were successful. A dialog box will appear in iTunes that states an iPod/iPhone in recovery mode has been detected if you are successful.
5. Click ok, then click the Restore button
After that you should be up and running in no time!
I hope that this is helpful.

• Itunes can`t connect with the ipad because it is blocked with a code

the thing is the following . I bought an Ipad and they connected it to the computer without synicing it with itunes so I could use it. I used it for a while and inserted a password. After using it I turned it off and when I got home it appears " Itunes can´t connect with the ipad because it is blocked with a code. Insert the code in the ipad to use it with itunes." The point is that I can´t even use it because it says to insert the password and the ipad says that I have to connect it to itunes so no password can be inserted so I can´t use my ipad

You need to start all over from the beginning. After connecting your iPad to the computer, look in iTunes for instructions how to "Restore as new."

• ITunes can't connect to iTunes store " No network Connection?? "

So how do i connect? there is nothing in the preference to change my connection. I used to have DSL connection but know i'm using a cable modem, so can't understand why iTunes can't connect to the iTunes store??? anybody know what to do?? Thanx
Ob1

I had a strange variant of this issue and finally banged through to a solution. I have an old Vista PC that I use as a music server, running ITunes 10.3.1.55. I turned off HOME SHARE to try and fix a different issue with REMOTE a few weeks ago, then could not get it re-established after, due to failed connection to the iTunes Store.
I didn't notice nor care til I realized that turning off HOME SHARE had gotten rid of the IMPORT button when I was browsing to another library, which I use frequently to pull new music from my laptop to the server. It is documented elsewhere that the IMPORT button comes back if you re-establish HOME SHARE. So I tried to do that and ran into the problem with connection to the ITunes Store/mothership.
I tried many suggestions, re-installed, etc w/o success. Then I did below from one of the Apple docs, specifically checking off TLS. Bingo! I had never had it checked before, and SSL was already checked, and all my other secure connections were/are fine, but for some reason this did it. I was able to get to the iTunes Store, re-establish my HOME SHARE and my IMPORT came back. Interestingly, the network diagnostic under HELP still fails the SECURE LINK test, but it doesn't seem to matter.
Another weird one solved, thanks for the leads and help here.
Further troubleshooting steps (for Windows only)
Correctly configure Internet Options
Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Select the Advanced tab.
Under the Security section, look for Use SSL 3.0 and Use TLS 1.0. Make sure at least one of those two checkboxes is selected and click OK. (You can select both checkboxes).

• "Itunes can not connect to this Ipod. An unknown error occurred." I get this message when I plug my Ipod touch into my Imac. I have restored the Ipod and have the latest Itunes. I have tried different cables and a macbook.

I have an Ipod touch 8GB, an Imac and an apple laptop. I have had this Ipod for years and it has been synced at different times to my Imac and laptop. Recently the battery ran way down on my Ipod. I plugged it into my Imac. After it charge I had to restore it. After I restored it Itunes couldn't connect to it because, "An unknown error occurred". I tried to connect it to Itunes on my laptop and got the same error message. I have tried different USB cables. Since Itunes won't connect, I can't do another restore. I don't know what do try from here.
Some additional info that might be related to this. Just before this Ipod problem came up I crashed my hard disk on the Imac. I had to erase it and reload all my stuff (I was able to copy the contents to a hard drive connected to my laptop using the firewire - I couldn't use time machine because of the crashed HD.) My Imac has been restored to the latest Itunes - I am running OSX 10.6.8.

Thanks for the help Ricky.
I did put my iPod into DFU and iTunes recognized it in restore mode. After restore I am back where I was before - iTunes cannot connect because of an unknown error.
I have installed Jailbreak to see if I can bypass itunes but haven't succeeded. I can't get my computer to recopgnize the iPod as a device.
I'll take it to a Genius bar next time I am in the area of one. Until then I'll probably continue to try hacks to get it connected.

• ITunes can't connect to Music Store - error 502

Since updating to iTunes version 7.1.1, I haven't been able to connect to the Music store at all. I've sent messages to Apple twice stating my problem, but I haven't gotten a response at all. My connection, of course, is fine, but I can't connect. The message I get is "iTunes cannot connect to the Music Store. An unknown error occurred (error 502). Please check to make sure your network connection is working and try again."
Anybody have any answers?

You may want to consider performing the following to be sure no software is conflicting with iTunes:
1.) Disable all anti-virus software you may have running
2.) Disable all firewall software you may have running
3.) Disable all web acceleration software you may have running
4.) If you are connected to the internet via an internet router, please disconnect it and connect directly via your broadband modem
