ITunes can't find any of my songs now that I upgraded to 7.6

Did the upgrade last night and when I opened it today to play music, all my songs are marked with a "!" and iTunes can't find them. I suspect I may need to reimport them but then I'll have duplicates which I'll need to go through and delete. Is there another way? Thanks.

When you create a smart playlist there is a checkbox so you can select only checked songs. So you could make a playlist easily by matching the rules of date added. If you sort your itunes music folder by date then you can see the start and end dates you will need for the playlist.
Once done, check its all alright, and then edit the smartlist (right-click the name in the left bar) and un-check live updating so it won't automatically change itself if you check/un-check more.

  • ITunes can't find any of my music

I've been using iTunes for a long time now. I keep all my music on an external (portable) drive with the exception of podcasts or downloaded music from the store. All of a sudden iTunes can't find any of my music. Everytime I click on a song to play that is stored on that drive I get the "!" mark and a box that says itunes couldn't find the song, do I want to search for it. I really don't want to have to do that to all 3k songs. My drive is fine, the songs are there. Could my library file have been currupted? This every happen to anyone else?

Do what Katrina says and that will most likely fix it.
Usually, when this happens, it's because a new device has been added via USB, like even a thumb drive.
When windows boots up, it assigns drive letters to the external devices. If it does it out of order from what it used to do, that effectively changes the location of your music files.
So if you've added anything to your computer via a different USB port, try taking that out. Of course you'd have to reboot after that.
But the permanent solution is what Katrina says, but you might need more detailed instructions on how to achieve what she says.
Look at the XML file to see what the drive is supposed to be. Open My Computer and match it with what your external harddrive is. If they don't match, there's your answer.
Once you fix that, your exclamation marks will disappear; you don't have to re-import or anything silly like that.

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.

It looks like the developer's of that app, or Apple, have got the wrong search name for it in the store - you could try contacting the developer and pointing it out to them so that they can get it corrected. Currently it looks like you can only find the app either by using the link (as you've included in your post), or by searching for the developer's name (Page Foundry Inc) in the store.
For searching the store, when you search for something then the first result(s) should be those whose title matches what you searched for - so if you search for 'ebook reader' then as there is an app with that exact name it will be first in the results, other apps will then be listed after it.

  • ITunes can't find any episodes on my feed.

I recently started my podcast back up under a new host (libsyn), and I followed every step and uploaded two episodes. I go to submit my RSS feed to iTunes and I get the "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed" error. I test my feed on feedvalidator.org and get:
    Sorry
    This feed does not validate.
line 9, column 8: link must be a full and valid URL: [help] <link></link>

I have also tried the "subscribe to podcast" thing in iTunes and all it shows is the name of my show but it can't find any episodes. I don't know what else to do here.
The link to my feed is http://weekendfriends.libsyn.com/rss

To fix the issues with the link - you need to go into your libsyn account in libsyn4
mouse over settings - and then select edit show settings - and make sure to put a full URL in for the website link.
And then per Rogers comments above - you need to removed your wma file and upload an mp3 file.
Here is a link to a full tutorial on using the libsyn UI and getting started.

Chapter 7 covers libsyn UI -  but also look at the chapter on creating an MP3 file - chapter 5.

  • I can't find ANY rigntone eligable songs on iTunes

    Hi,
I have a Australian iTunes account and I'm on a big ssearch for finding any song on iTunes that is eligable for ringtone (i.e. has a bell icon).
I have searched for songs I want to use and I have also tried searching the recently popular songs hoping I can come across just one!
Are the ringtone songs rare and hard to come by, or is there hope? If so, can someone please help me!!! I'm bored with the factory ringtones!!!
    Thanks for your help!

Ringtones via iTunes is only available in the US at this time.
You can google "ehow iPhone ringtones" to learn how to make your own ringtones.

  • ITunes Can't Find Some of My Songs & Videos

My old G4 was filling up with song files, so I moved my iTunes Music over to an External WD Firewire Drive and all was well. Yesterday I migrated over to an Intel iMac, connected the drive and fired up iTunes and music filled my room. Then I clicked a few titles and noticed an exclamation point next to some of them and error box pops up indicating that iTunes could not find the files and would I like to look for them.
These songs are indeed on my external drive and can be played in a preview and even dragged into the iTunes application and are now playable. Problem is I'm finding hundreds of these now and I don't know until I try to manually play them. My destination in preferences points to the external drive, I've authorized my computer (some are purchased, some not) and I have an up to date iTunes.
I'm kind of stumped as to what is going on. Any solutions you can pass my way would be appreciated.
    Steve

so my itunes for some reason cannot locate any of my 2000 songs that ive had for the past 4 years. They all come up with little exclamation points!! recently, i went to an apple store and had one of the mac genuises answer some questions, one which was why i had duplicate songs in my itunes library? all was well, and he said it probably had to do with the fact that i had redownloaded them on a my new harddrive. He then proceeded to go through my harddrive and said i should delete all the music files because its taking up harddrive space, and all i needed was the music thats on in itunes - basicaoly he said i had extra copies that i did not need, so at the mac store i deleted them all. so heres where my problem starts, i empty the trash at home - try to play music - then all my music files pop up with exclamation points, nothing will play, and i cant find any of the orginal files which were on the hard drive!! i have no music now, bc some mac genius told me to delete the extra files!!!!!!! so my question is WHAT SHOULD I do now?????
sorry - but eversince mac has monopolized the industry - i have nothing but problems with inconsistent information....... i am advocate of macs - but im getting frustrated when i drive an hour to a mac store with a purchased 100 dollar pro care card - and get the wrong info....which screws me!!!

  • ITunes can't locate any of my songs

OK so I plugged my iPod into my computer to sync it because I've added some new music lately. But I'd forgotten to plug in my external HD (where I have almost all of my 4500 songs) so obviously it said all the tracks couldn't be found and stuff. So I closed iTunes, unplugged my iPod, plugged in my hard drive and plugged my iPod in again. Only all the tracks still aren't located (except a few random albums that are on the computer's HD and not the external).
I've tried a few things but the only thing that seems to work is manually locating individual tracks. I have like 4500 songs though and manually locating over 4000 of them isn't too appealing to me. Unfortunately I can't find another way to do it without nuking and rebuilding the whole library (thereby losing all my playlists and playcounts and stuff).
So basically I messed up by trying to sync when my HD wasn't plugged in, but now that it's plugged in and everything has been restarted iTunes can't relocate the files (none of them have been moved)? Is there a way to fix this without locating every single track?
If this can't be resolved I think I'm going to finally switch to Winamp and not have to deal with iTunes ever again....

Hey, make sure that your extnal hard drive is connected. Start
iTunes. No need to connect your iPod at this stage.Go into
Edit - Prefs, select the advanced tab at the top and
ensure that the path to iTunes music folder location is
set to your ext. hard drive. e.g. E:\exthd\iTunes\music. Always
ensure that your external hard disk is connected before
you start iTunes otherwise iTunes will get confused.
The 4500 songs should now be seen by iTunes.
The odd few albums/songs that are located on your c:\drive
will now have a circle next to them, indicating that the
original files cannot be found. Simply move these to the
external hard disk and re-import the individual
    songs/Albums again.

  • I was surfing the net when my computer started emitting double beeps. I shut it down with no problem but I can't find any info on double beeps that did not occur at startup (haven't tried starting it back up yet though). What happened?

Quite the trial to sign in to freaking Apple support.  I apparently made an account with my primary e-mail, but damned if I can recover the password, apparently I don't know my own birthday.  So I had to make a new account with another e-mail, and even when I thought it was done, no, I had to fill out more information before I could get to this screen.  You won't let me ask for tech support from your message board without my mailing address?  Then my completely inoccuous user name was rejected for containing banned words.  Lemurs and cats are profane now, what?  This is why I hate computers.
Anyway, I've got Mac OS X 4.something, can't check because it is shut down, and I already described my problem in the subject there before I got dragged back into account creation.  I searched several places for answers but all I can find are discussions about double beeping at startup (even when excluding the word "startup" from search results), while my double beeping started all of a sudden when the computer was in use.  The beeps were certainly less than a minute apart.  What happened? What do I need to do about it? Is it safe to start the computer up again?  Fortunately my files are pretty much all backed up.

I don't know if we are experiencing the same problem, but this is what I did and it seemed to work for me so far.
Before anything I had to hard restart my laptop. hold power button until off then turn back on.
In Finder click on Go, then click Go to Folder.  in the dialogue box type
    /var/db/crls
In that folder there are two files that you need to move to the trash
    crlcache.db
    ocspcache.db
You will need to type in your password to move these to the trash.
Restart your computer and then Empty the Trash.  It is very important that you empty the trash afterwards.  I forgot to do this the first time and I had to restart the whole process.  It has been a few days and I have been without any problems.
I am not claiming this process to be my own, I found it on another discussion thread and it worked for me. I don't have a link to it because I had to use someone else's computer and had no luck trying to find it again. This is the procedure I followed, I do remember it well and I wrote down the steps because I had to do it twice and got tired of combing through all of the websites I have searched looking for a fix to my problem.  Hopefully this helps, and try it at your own risk of course.
Let me know if you try it and it works or not, good luck.

  • How do I edit my Android Apps Code in dreamweaver? As well I can't find any of the App options that I keep hearing about in my cloud based Dreamweaver.....

I already have an app that I paid someone to make but I needed to make some changes to the code and wanted to do it in Dreamweaver. How is it best to load my code into Dreamweaver, navigate through it, and find the code I need to change? As well my version of Dreamweaver ( It the new Cloud based ) doesn't have any of the App features. Do I need to load it differently or something?

It really depends on how the app was developed and loaded.  DW can help with web interfaces and some parts of the app development, but depending on the complexity and language of the app you may need additional tools like Xcode (Apple) in order to modify the app.

  • ITunes 10.5 can't find any of my original files, even though they show in my library

I was hoping you could help me with iTunes 10.5. This update has been a pain. When I first installed it, my entire library was gone. Luckily, I saved the "iTunes Library" file before updating and copied it in place and my library appeared. But now the problem I'm having is that the iTunes can't find any of the "original" files, even though my iTunes Media file location has not changed (it's on an external network drive". When I click on the "Do you want to find the original file" I can find it in the appropriate folder. I checked the "Preferences" and under "Advanced" I re-mapped it to the appropriate location and already had the 2 boxes for iTunes organizing files checked. Then went to "File" and "Organize Library" and clicked the first check box and then got the "Copying Files" bar. When this was completed, I thought it would be able to find the original files. But I'm still getting the same error message about not being able to find the "original" files. Do you have any suggestions?

  • My itunes can't find the music on my external hard drive.

My itunes was working fine using my external hard drive. Then I played a song that was not part of that music folder. Now itunes says it can't find any of the songs that are listed. The little evil exclamation point pops up. How can I reconnect to the hard drive without having to start all over?

Thanks for the clarification of check vs click. I guess once I saw the word "double" I stopped reading. I ended up "reloading" the drive to itunes. The interesting thing is that itunes isn't setting the location for the external drive. It is set for a folder under "my music" The actual songs aren't there, but the folders are there. When i put my external drive music to a new itunes library, i did so without copying the songs. So about 100 gig of music is in a folder that is really only about 300mb. I noticed before i restarted that the location was this folder. When i opened it, it was empty. After redoing everthing all of the songs are on the folder. I probably should have just changed it to go to the external drive like you suggested. Just for fun i changed the location to the external and bypassed that small folder. It worked great. It only took about 2 minutes to update, and it works great. I thought i had to use that stupid little folder. Thanks for all of your help!!

  • ITunes can't find artists beginning with THE

My music collection was getting too large for my internal hard drive so I changed the location of my iTunes folder to my external drive, where there was already a back up of all my music. This I create by directly copying the itunes music folder every so often. Keep itunes organised is checked. When I changed the folder location, it did updating library, then asked if I wanted to organise the folder which I did.
However now, it won't find certain tracks/albums, says the orignal file location cannot be found do I want to locate...
It appears that itunes can't find any track whose artist begins with the word THE, although they are in folders called "The...." in the correct music folder.
I just updated to the latest version of itunes.
Does anyone know what might be going on???

Something similar happened to me. iTunes could not find any music that had the track number at the beginning of the name (an option in Advanced->Import section). My purchased music also had track numbers, but I don't know if Apple did that, or if my own iTunes did it.
At some point, I had turned off this option, so all the songs I imported after that were found just fine. When I deleted the track numbers from the file names, iTunes found them just fine. I have way too many files to change all the name manually however. Changing the naming option in the iTunes preferences did not make a difference to the problem.

  • ITunes suddenly cannot find any of my music (but I see it!!)

So all of my music (the entire library, including the library and xml files) are sitting on an external USB 2.0 drive, in this location:
    e:/ITUNES/library
the xml and itl file is sitting at e:/ITUNES/
In advanced itunes preferences, my itunes library is set to stay organized, copy new music when opened in itunes, and the music folder is set to e:/ITUNES/library
All of the sudden, itunes can't find any of my music. I've tried to restart, no luck. I took a look in the XML file, and it is pointing at the G:/ drive instead of E for some reason (I don't even have a G drive!). I did a replace all with programmer's notepad (G:/ to E:/), but no luck. And when I re-open the xml file the next time, it's all back to G again....
    any ideas??
    Thanks

Your music will only be where you put it.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy.  Have you failed to do this?
If for some reason you have failed to back up, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
