ITunes can't find file - updating several file locations at once

I've got several audiobooks that are in a different location than my music library.  I recently reinstalled my laptop and restored the older iTunes folder (so I don't have to repopulate my 120gb worth of mp3 files in iTunes).
It worked well enough.  iTunes sees all my albums and by pointing the reinstalled iTunes to my music library path, it can find all my music.  I have to manually point iTunes to every mp3 (audiobook for example) to anything that isn't in the default library location though.
Is there any way I can update an entire album location without changing the library path?

nope - that's not it either! all my xml text things have identical paths to the real location of the files. nice idea, though!
i have fixed my problem, though. probably not permanently or in a very convenient way, but at present itunes is working for me again. here is how i did it...
all my files were also on my ipod, so i used a downloadble software package (music rescue, which is fantastic!) to copy all of the mp3 files from my ipod to my internal hard drive. i then dragged these and dropped them all into my itunes library. this meant that after a lot of copying i had all tracks twice, and every other track had the '!' symbol next to it.
i therefore had my library twice over, once working and once not working. i highlighted all the tracks with exclamation marks and deleted them, leaving the new version of my old library. i lost my playlists but i didn't really have any anyway, and no smart lists or anything like that. i probably also lost playcounts and the like but i don't really care about that either because i don't use itunes in that involved a way...
i am fully expecting itunes to work fine for a while, then do the same thing again, so i am leaving this as a unanswered question in the hope that someone has a suggestion that will offer a more permanent solution.
thanks to everyone for their help...

How can I save the update download file as I have several devises to upgrade and cant afford the bandwidth to do each via iTunes.
There does not appeare to be any doenloadable files in the download section.

    "Well that's totally unacceptable."
Actually you can only accept it, as it is the way it is.  You may not like it, but it is so.  Sorry.
" your seriously telling me that Apple expect me to download the same huge file 8 TIMES"
That is exactly what I am telling you.
    " No way."
    Still true.
"Apple are going to have to come up with another solution."
No.  They do not have to do any such thing.  They may choose to do so in the future, but there is no reason to believe that they will.

  • After an iTunes update I can't access my library as iTunes can't find my .itl file

After an iTunes update I now. Can't  access my library as iTunes can't find my .itl file. Any ideas how to rectify this?

Your iTunes Library.itl file will normally be at C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. If it isn't there should it be somewhere else (you ought to know if you deliberately moved it) or is there a Previous iTunes Libraries folder containing backups made during iTunes updates.

  • Updated music files on my hard drive and now itunes can't find path.

I updated my music files on my hard drive and now iTunes can't find the path. too many to manually do. can itunes refresh or should i delete all itunes music files and re-import?

Once a track is in your iTunes library, you should not touch it except through iTunes. But I guess you know that now.
iTunes, to answer your question, cannot "refresh." If you re-add those files to your library, iTunes is unable to match them with the existing library entries, and will create a bunch of duplicate entries. This is a longstanding shortcoming of iTunes (and the source of lots of traffic on this fourm).
If there are "too many to manually" reassociate, then starting over, in the sense of deleting and then re-adding, may be a good plan.

  • I get itunes can't find file when I tried to play a TV show I had purchased that was supposed to be in the cloud. There are several of these, including an entire season. In the store it shows that I purchased these shows when I checked them.

I get itunes can't find file when I tried to play a TV show I had purchased. I then checked and had this problem with an entire TV season I had purchesed. The shows were supposed to be in the cloud. I went to the itunes store, went to the tv shows and they showed that I had purchesed them. They do not show up when I click on purchesed in the store.

    Try this...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • HT1222 When I try to install iTunes 10.7 it says it can't find the iTune64.msi file. I can't seem to find a replacement download for that file.

I have ITunes installed on my PC which runs Windows Vista in support of my IPad.  When I try to install the update for ITunes 10.7 version, it says it can't find the "itunes64.msi" file.  How do I correct this, or where can I find a download for the itunes64.msi file?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get aCode 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Itunes can not find  file. Locate file.

Sometimes I try to play a music and a message appears indicating that file can not find. I have to locate each file individually. Why this ocurr.

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Perhaps you've been using Windows Media Player and it has "helpfully" renamed some of the files. Ideally you should disable all WMPs options for automatically updating your media. You might also find the following useful.
    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
You may need to amend the list of file types these programs look for. My list includes:
    .mp3 .mp4 .m4a .m4b .m4p .m4v .mov .wav .aif .mid .ipa .ipg .ite .itlp .m4r .pdf
Note the last 6 types may not be recognised as already being in the library so should either be omitted from the search or you can add (at least for Folder Watch) individual exclusions for files you know are already in your library.

i backup my iphone on my pc and copy backup file into drive D then i setup new OS on my pc. after that i copy the backup file into itunes backup folder but itunes can't find the backup file to restore my iphone. how can i restore my iphone?

Don't you just love changes in interfaces?
I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

  • Move all my music to another folder but Itunes can't find the files!

I have all my music on my desktop in small folders for each artist.
But now i don't have room anymore, because i have to much music.
So i want to move it all in to a folder called "Music". But when i do that
Itunes can't find the files, and i have to search for each file, to find the new location instead of the desktop. How do i move my music more easily? So i don't have to synchronize it all in again, with the right album covers and that..
    Please, need some help here!

You need to open your preferences file in iTunes and click on advance then select the location of where you put the folder.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527

  • Where can I find the a downloaded file by Software update?

Where can I find the a downloaded file by Software update?
For example is there any way to find a package which is downloaded but is not installed(because the installation failed) (in this case 10.5.5) and I don't want to download it once again neither manually nor with software update.

    sina_golesorkhi wrote:

    In ~/Downloads
For example is there any way to find a package which is downloaded but is not installed(because the installation failed) (in this case 10.5.5)
Failed installs usually remove the package, just as a proper install removes the package
All that remains for a proper installation is a Receipt in on of the following directories:
    ~/Library/Receipts (for user-specific installs)
    Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts
for system-wide installations, including OS-X updates.
and I don't want to download it once again neither manually nor with software update.
If it did not install, there is no Receipt and the downloaded file is not on your system
If you don't want to see it again in automatic updates, put it on ignore.

  • ITunes can't find the original file?

I have my entire iTunes collection on my iPod and, supposedly on my laptop. Yet every time I click on a laptop song, I get a message telling me that ITunes can't find the original song, do I want to look for it? I then have to run "Search", wait for the song to appear, and click on it to add it to my usable library. Then, I get two listings for the same song, and if I eliminate one listing, I get the "can't find original" message again. I have just under 60 gig of music and I don't want to search and add thousands of songs when they are already in there somewhere. I appreciate greatly any one's expertise in helping me solve this frustrating problem. Thanks!

    Hi, Mike-D.
I'm assuming your music files are all in one centeral location - the iTunes Music folder or what have you.
There are a few basic strategies for dealing with your unfortunate situation:
    1) Telling iTunes where the lost songs are on a one by one basis.
    2) Moving the songs to where iTunes thinks they are. Unfortunately, there's no way to find out where that might be.
    3) Start with a new iTunes library. Regrettably, this method will lose your playlists and related information (Ratings, Play Counts, Dates Last Played, etc.).
If that's not a deal-breaker for you, delete the current entries in your Library by highlighting them - iTunes Edit menu > Select All - and then right-clicking > Delete . You remove the entries from your Library but keep the files themselves in your iTunes Music folder, again that's assuming that's where they are in the first place.
You can then add them back into your Library by selecting the iTunes Music folder in Windows Explorer and dragging it into the Library entry in the iTunes Source List (left-hand column).

  • Error updating QuickTime7.  can't find the quicktime.msi file?

I get an error message when I try to update my version of Quicktime7.  It apparently can't find the quicktime.msi file in the temp directory?

    First try this fixit:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
If that doesn't work you may need the the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility
Unfortunately the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility has been withdrawn by Microsoft because of compatibility issues with Microsoft Office so you will need to find a copy elsewhere – the installer is msicuu2.exe. You need version 3.
    Google  msicuu2.exe download
mydigitallife in the above search has a copy of version 3
Check for malware before installing it.
After installing, To run the program  – All Programs>>Windows Install
If you get  permission denied error, Try Run as Administrator – an option if you right click on the program.
Try uninstalling Quicktime, this will probably fail, don't worry
delete the following folder/files (I am assuming 32 bit XP, if you have something else it may be different, post back with info)
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTimeVR
    Download QuickTime onto your PC
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any instance you find of Quicktime
    Restart your PC
    Install Quicktime
