  • ITunes Can Be Installed On 5 Devices - Why The Chaos When Reinstalling?

This comes to light on the very rare occasions I have to replace a hard drive, which unfortunately just occurred.  So obviously i had to reinstall everything, as I hadn't managed to clone the old drive before it failed.
I know that iTunes can be installed on up to 5 separate machines and currently I now have to installed on my secondary boot - Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.
I multi-boot as I test security software so like to have it installed on all my OS's.   It was my Vista Ultimate SP2 drive that failed.
Before I reinstall iTunes and Quicktime on Vista, is there some trick that I am missing that will negate the need for a complete re-download to that system of every single thing I've ever purchased?
If it's any help I keep the iTunes (Media) folder on my external drive - where it is totally independent of any operating system.   I don't use the Cloud for backups as I have restricted bandwidth and in any case am not paying for extra storage even if I had plenty of bandwidth.
Any tips and hints would be appreciated.
Forgive me if I should have read something or other - please point me wherever.

Did you use 'Software Update' to get the 10.8.2 update that is specific to the Late 2012 Mac mini?
If it is not being displayed, you may need to wait a few hours to use 'Software Update' to get this update, as the update that you need is currently not in the 'Support', 'Downloads' section of the Apple website.
This is the link to the update in the 'Support', 'Downloads' section of the Apple website, if you want to check back later: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1603.

  • I can't install the QuickTime!!! Please help!!!

I can't install the QuickTime. "The QT installer write: A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed."
But I not installed QT, I have not QT on my PC (WIN XP SP3)!!!
I'd like install QT after iTune!
    Please help me anybody!!!

C:\WINDOWS\Installer will show .msi files. Right click and go to Properties then Summary will show what application they pertain to.
If you go to Start>Search>For Files or Folders>All files and folders, then type in .msi and do a Search. Then place your mouse pointer on one of these .msi a window will appear showing the info, which maybe easier.
At some point QT was installed on the computer and removed. Old QT .msi installation files were not. This is why you are having a problem.

  • HT1926 new version of itune can not install due to old version of itune can not be removed

can not install itune due to old  version of itune can not be removed

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • ITunes can't install due to old Quicktime installation

I'm trying to install iTunes on my teachers laptop for her- she's a technophobe but has bought a new Shuffle for her husband. I go to install, and it throws and error at me saying 'Cannot due to old version of Quicktime'. There were 3 version- Ive managed to ditch two, but one simply won't uninstall as it says that a certain system file is being used by another application. I'll try and get the file path if I can.
It;s a school laptop and they're set up by trained monkeys, they're so ungodly slow and badly set up. So, any suggestions?

When I get the chance, I'll probably try and boot the PC in safe mode and see if that'll take care of it. If this doesn't work, any other ideas?

  • Can't Install Both Quicktime Nor Itunes! I Can Only Download! %APPDATA%\.??

I try to upgrade both itunes and quicktime!
They both download but then i get a %appdata% alert in the middle of the installation.
It says that: 'Could not access network location %APPDATA%\.'
I press 'retry' but the same alert pops back up.
This happens over and over again!
Im getting very frustrated..I've tried uninstalling and re-installing everything in order.
In the end i just put cancel and neither of them get installed.
I tried 'downloading only' and installing manually but it just happens once again.

  • ITunes won't install because Quicktime won't

I had QT on my computer, the latest version, and I tried to download iTunes and it says "Quicktime will not install. iTunes needs Quicktime to run." and the only option I have is to close.
I removed QT and tried to install QT w/ iTunes, same error.
I tried then to just install iTunes. same error
I put QT back on alone, tried iTunes again, same error.
If anyone can help before I have to return my new ipod because of software issues that would be cool. thanks.

with that one, let's try getting an itunes 7 installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look.
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

i tryed reinstalling itunes 7, but it says that i need quicktime 7.1.3, but the quicktime wont download. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have also tried to install quicktime separately and nothing seems to work.
did you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall? if so, what did it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
which QT installer did you download from the QT installer download page? was it called QuickTimeInstaller.exe, or iTunesSetup.exe? (the former is a standalone QT installer, and the latter is an itunes/QT installer bundle.)

  • I can't install / uninstall Quicktime either! Please help

I've read all the posts on this subject and none of the advice has cured my problem. When I try to run the latest Quicktime install program (having uninstalled Quicktime earlier versions??) I have only 2 options - either Repair or Remove. So Quicktime still exists somewhere on my system? Both the options give the same result - a warning dialog with the following message. "The installer has encounted an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package The error code is 2356." Can someone help?

Thanks for the quick reply but I had tried all that already. To be sure though I just checked again. Windows Install cleanup reports no quicktime installation, there is no Quicktime folder in the C:\program files folder and the files are not present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder.
I also searched the entire PC and the files are not there at all. I also checked the QuickTimeInstallerF30.log located in my profile local settings\temp folder it shows the following:-
    === Logging started: 4/7/2007 23:35:25 ===
    Executing: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe" /i "{5E863175-E85D-44A6-8968-82507D34AE7F}"
    Returned: 1603
Also the log file MSIf6fea.LOG in the same folder shows:-
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2356. The arguments are: QuickTime.cab, ,
    === Logging stopped: 07/04/2007 23:34:16 ===
I'm logged in as the administrator too.
Error message is still the same! The other point to note is that after the error message the install program then looks as though it reverses it first few steps that were completed before the error message.

  • Why i can't install my quicktime pro 7 for mac?

The email says that you have to click "all item actions" but i don't even have that button there!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Cant Install Itunes -- Error says Quicktime has a Newer Version already installed?  Whats up with that? I can only install Itunes as a Bundle with Quicktime--

    I am running WINDOWS 7
I have read up on this error-- Nothing is working.. Now I have No Itunes,
I tried to UNINSTAL Quicktime- it wont let me from (Add/Remove) Programs-- Says there are some POLICIES in place that wont allow
me to *Install (Hello) Im Uninstalling-- And I am the Administrator--
I found the DELL Installed (Hidden) Administrator and tried to do it while logged in as it-- NO WAY- same error
So, I deleted the (2) (QTS) files in  syswow64?  Windows system folder for WIN7 64 bit
    Rebooted
Still not able to Uninstall-- GRRR
I have no more ideas..  I saw a site or two that had a copy of ITUNES (Unbundled) for install- but it didnt look safe or authorized by Apple- so, I didnt do it
Besides.. I now dont have a good VER of Quicktime on board either-- without those QTS files--
    Im really messed up--
    Can someone help!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)
