ITunes can't play "hidden", Track 0

Anyone encountered this before?
- insert CD (http://www.discogs.com/release/393750) into computer
- itunes recognizes only 13 of the 14 songs
- all 14 songs, however, can be played in a car CD player, but somehow iTunes is not recognizing the Track 1
Is there any way to get iTunes to recognize the very first track - "Track 0" - so that I can rip it?!

okay, first let's explicitly doublecheck your precise itunes version number. in itunes, go "help > about itunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen. (for example, mine says "itunes 6.0.4.2")
if you've got an itunes version 5.0.0.35, 5.0.1.4, 6.0.0.18 or 6.0.1.3
... first let's check on this possibility:
iTunes for Windows: Audio files do not play in iTunes 5 or 6
if you've got an itunes version 6.0.2.23 or higher, or the compatibility settings thing wasn't a factor for you
... then first we'll try a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

if that install goes through okay, does your itunes play audio properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

ITunes can't play all tracks on a cd

I have a brand new Dell XPS 730 gaming pc. Previously, I was running Vista 32 bit that it came with. The other day I reinstalled Vista 64 bit and installed itunes for 64 bit vista. When I put in either regular audio cds or burned cds, itunes will only recognize a few tracks and just skip the rest. When trying to import a track it skips over it takes about one second and it sees it as being like hundreds of hours long. I tried multiple cd's that work PERFECTLY FINE in a cd player on my boombox. I also then tried these in Windows Media Player 11 and the same exact issue occurred. WMP gave an error message saying there was something wrong with my drive. I have two DVD-RW drives. I tried this all on both drives and same issue happened. I find it hard to believe that in the span of a day both of my drives had something go wrong with them that they can't read discs properly, especially when I can play any DVD games fine and can burn discs using my Roxio burning program perfectly fine as well.
I don't understand why the same problem would be happening in WMP if it was a problem with itunes. I'm guessing it could be an issue with Vista 64 bit not working properly with the DVD drives, i'm not too sure. I just find it odd that this problem would crop up when my pc was working fine in 32 bit with iTunes. Anyone else having this problem, and anyone actually found a solution to it yet?
Below is the diagnostic I ran with a regular audio cd in each drive that work fine on my boombox cd player. It's definitely not recognizing them properly as you can see in the track times of like 20 hours plus when they're only 4 to 6 minutes long.

I have a similar issue, pleae let me know if you've figured this out.
On mine, it will play approx 1 minute of an audio CD, then quit. Will not play subsequent tracks at all, and skips them as you describe when trying to import. Same result in iTunes and Windows Media player. But I was able to play a DVD movie and also to burn a copy of a CD. Very odd.

Itunes can't play the file because the original file can not be found

There is many things wrong with that message and I don't know why.
I had around 30 songs off an album on my computer
I put the album on Itunes
I edited them and then they played fine
I put them on my ipod and then deleted them off coz i wanted to put something else on
but i found out I had more space to put the other 30 songs I had from before back on so I went to the album
when I wanted to play a song it said "Itunes Can't play the file because the original file can not be found"
1) The original file was on my computer, in the exact place where I left it last time when Itunes played it
2) I did not change the file path name
3) I did not change the folder path name
4) The songs aren't corrupted
5) They play fine on other programs
I deleted them all off and took them on again and they played fine but whey did they keep stuffing up before?

The "missing file" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then say no when asked to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. I can provide a step by step guide if you give me the two paths.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps and locate the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links. Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

Itunes won't read hidden tracks and video!!!

so i bought the new justin timberlake cd, and i can't play the hidden track at the end of the cd. also, i can't get it so i can watch the video that is supposed to come with the cd or see the interactive booklet.

I am also having the same problem with about 200 of my MP3s. The tag info shows up perfectly using QuickLook on Leopard, but in iTunes I can't see any of the info. I have tried converting the ID3 tag version, revesing the unicode....nothing.

ITunes 8 only playing 1 track?

I have just upgraded to iTunes 8 and I can't seem to get iTunes to play more than 1 track at a time. If I go to a playlist (or just 'Music'), and double-click a song, it plays.
I have the 'Shuffle' and 'repeat playlist' selected in the bottom left hand corner, but it just stops playing at the end of the current track.
AmI missing something obvious?

All the songs in the playlist are checked - but still only plays one track. Only stated with the install of iTunes 8. Also in the menu, I have selected under shuffle - all group
Any thoughts?

i've just had to buy a new desktop PC, I've got icloud so I haven't lost any tracks from itunes, apart from the tracks that i've downloaded onto my phone since not having a PC, so I haven't been able to back up my purchases. they're showing in itunes, but in a lighter grey colour, and I can't play them, how do I get them back??

Nothing. Those songs are corrupt; delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

ITunes can't find my tracks - please please help, DJ in need to urgent fix!

iTunes cannot find my tracks which have been working fine on my external HDD for a long time. Basically today I have tried to move my library from one external HD to another (due to portability issues) I changed my iTunes media folder location in the preferences to the new drive, and then consolidated my library in order to copy all of the tracks...when I opened up the new library on the new HDD the files could not be found. So I simply decided to change the media folder library back to its old location again so that I could just load up my initial library and go about copying my library in a different way... however, when I went back to the old library location which should not have changed at all, it was also unable to find 99% of the files!
Please help. I cannot recreate my library from scratch as I have 10000 tracks, most of which which are all sorted out into different playlists ready for DJing. The tracks are still on the HDD and I can find them individually, but this is obviously out of the question for such a large library of tracks. Please can someone enlighten me as to how can I relocate them without reconstructing the library?? Thanks very much, i'm pulling my hair out right now with stress!!!

Hey thanks very much for your reply. The original folder was still the H drive because I was trying to move from one exHD to another (one which is much more portable) Also the media folder location definitely shows the correct location of all the tracks. The new library did not work properly so I went back to my old drive in order to try again and follow a guide online so that it would 100% work correctly. However, when going back to the old drive I experienced the problems, so now my main (old) library is not working.
I think the problem lies somewhere along these lines - If you look at the picture closely you can see that the tracks file name is different for some reason before and after manual relocation...
So in the picture above it's originally trying to find the file "02 Serial Killa" and failing. However, after manual location it has realised the file is called "B Shackles - Serial Killa" so for some reason its searching for the wrong filename (I think!?)

Itunes, can't play music I bought with my aol account.

Hi,
I have a Imac and just bought a Ibook.
I backed up my Itunes library to the new Ibook, the only problem is I can't play some songs that I bought way back when I first bought my Imac. I used to have a AOL account I used to purchase before I got my .mac account. I can play those songs on my Imac, but can't play them on my Ibook.
I still have the account, but it won't let me authorize those songs on my new Ibook. I only have authorized 2 computers also.
Can someone help me out with this or point me in the right direction?

ITunes won't play joined tracks

Hi
i joined some tracks from an audiobook with Rejoiner, now after the upgrade to 6.02 iTunes told me that the tracks are about 5 sec long, they used to be an hour. I then degraded back to 6.01, now it shows me the correct length of tze tracks, but on some it will only play the first 5-10 sec. when i play the preview from the finder everything plays fine.
Has anyone had a similar prob?

Yep same.. updated to 8.0 and now it hates me.
It will play sometimes jump songs its really annoying right now.
Mine on the other hand just keeps asking to Authorize so I do and it says this machine is already authorized and I am like well duh yeah you work not so long ago!

Can't play a track that I downloaded from iTunes.

I just downloaded an audiobook from iTunes. For some reason I'm not able to play the third track. It won't sync to my iPod either. The error that I get when I try to add it to my iPod is:
"Track Name" was not copied to the iPod "Jack's iPod" because it cannot be played on this iPod.
When I try to play it from iTunes, it won't even acknowledge that it is there. I can click on it to my hearts content and it won't play.
Any ideas?

First, I'd suggest unsetting your caps lock. It is generally considered inappropriate behavior to type all in uppercase letters in Internet discussions, as text that is typed all in uppercase is by convention considered to be shouting. Uppercase is also more difficult to read, so please use all uppercase sparingly and only when you really mean to shout, which we hope you won’t need to do here .
Anyway, what version of iTunes and QuickTime are you running? If you're not on the latest - iTunes 7.1.1 and QuickTime 7.1.5 - you might try updating and see if that makes a difference.
But if it's just one tracks that's having problems, and other tracks purchased from the iTunes Store play correctly, then you may have an incomplete or corrupted download. Contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of their Download FAQ web page (I recommend that you use the form, not the link in your Purchase History as they advise; that's not proven to be very reliable) and explain the problem to them.

How can I stop itunes arranging and playing album tracks alphabetically?

I am obviously an absolute half-wit, but when I import albums into itunes it arranges the tracks alphabetically. I want them to play in the order that they are on the album.
Does anyone know how I can make this happen?

after you open itunes click the library icon in the source field to your left.
click on edit in the menu bar of itunes,
click view options .
place a check mark in the box marked track number.
now there should be a column heading that says "Track#" click that heading.
your library is now sorted by track number but all the first tracks of every album are first, if the last song on the album are first click the triangle in the track # column again this will reverse the order.
next click the Album column heading you will now have the albums in alphabetical order with original track order in the library.
just remember sort by track# first then by Album.

Lots of -8008 errors on iTunes 11 OS X 10.7.5 and files say iTunes can not play with with this version of Quicktime

So my iTunes library is to big for local storage and I'm hosting my iTunes library on a NAS box, worked 90% of the time, some errors here and there but it was tolerable. Since I've update to iTunes 11 most of my downloads fail to -8008 errors and eventually -50. Downloads did fail like this before, but rarely, on previous version; yes I restarted them and they would download fully. However, lately everything is giving me -8008 or -50, and after the downloads get half way they restart from the beginning then eventually die and error out to -8008 or -50. It still happens when I re-direct the library back to the local drive too. Moreover, all the downloads now show up without the artwork, I can re-import all day long and they don't work; but if I open with Quicktime, the tv show/movie plays just fine but iTunes gives the ubiquitous

I'm glad iTunes is working now! If you want to locate iTunes plug-ins on your computer, you can find them in the following locations (you may not have the iTunes Plug-ins folder if you do not have plug-ins):

One thing I also wanted to mention is that the "Users/username/Library" is hidden in Lion and Mountain Lion. You can access it using these steps:

The Library folder contains files used by OS X and your apps, including your personal fonts and preferences. The Library folder is hidden. If you need to open it, make sure you are in the Finder, hold down the Option key, and then choose Go > Library.

TS1362 Just downloaded El Camino, but can only play two tracks. The others show on my ipod but when I click on the songs, nothing happens. Help!

What is causing this? I've never had problems purchasing albums from itunes before......

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
