ITunes can't rip songs

I'm using the latest greatest iTunes. I ripped CD's all weekend with no trouble. I tried this morning with several CD's - all opened just fine and all the songs were identified correctly. When I go to rip the CD's (Import CD) - the song gets imported way too fast (it finishes ripping a song in about 2 seconds) and the song lengths show up in the LIbrary as either 0 seconds or 766 seconds - and they don't play properly. this happened exactly the same way for 4 CD's in a row.
I ran a CD Drive Diagnostic - didn't report any errors.
What gives?
TIA!

I'm having the same problem, iTunes rips the whole CD (its says the track time 4.5mins etc) yet when I try to play the track it plays about 3 seconds worth then jumps to the next track and does it again! The CD's are old and cant be copy protected??? How can I fix it?

iPhone won't sync with iTunes and It says iTunes can not add songs to iPhone because no songs in iTunes library can be copied to iPhone. Help!!!! What should I do. I tried everything!
I need to add my music to my iPhone from iTunes but its not working!

First off try and go into your IPhone manually through My Computer and cut photos or anything you can through the device to be able to free space up so that you can continue to do what you want to do with ITunes. This way you will be able to create a backup or do what you have to do to manage your information, photos and texts on your device a little better.

  • ITunes Match leaves ripped songs in multiple iCloud status states

Itunes Match seems to have made a complete mess of my Library.  I had to restart match several times, and in the end it looked like it was about to complete but when I came back to it,  I found that is had started the whole matching process again.  Now I see most of my songs ripped from CD duplicated in multiple iCloud states.  Most of my ripped songs appear duplicated as Uploaded and also as greyed out Waiting status.  Some appear duplicated as Uploaded and Matched.  Some of my music is duplicated as both in Matched state, one with the iCloud download option and other without.  As far as I can tell, nearly all my own ripped tracks appear as duplicates with different iClouds status in one form or another.  Purchased tracks from iTunes are fine with no duplicates.  What a mess!
I seems that during these multiple attempts to match iCloud was getting different results each time and I ended up with a hodgepodge of duplicates.  I have tried quitting iTunes and coming back in.  I have updated match, it went quickly and made no changes.  I have turned off match and then put it back on (prompted to add the computer) - no change.   How do I clean out this mess?
Note: I worked with a separate iTunes Library to to the match.  My main library contains songs in both AAC and Apple Lossless formats.  I first tried matching that library and realized that it was going to give me duplicates.  So I created a new empty Library and deleted my iCloud tracks to reset it.  Then I opened a custom library with just my AAC format files to do the match.  This seemed to work although as I noted it got stock a couple times and then seemed to repeat the match process in the end. Note these multiple libraries point to the same media files.  Fortunately it doesn't look like I have lost any original tracks, but the display is very messy with all the duplicates.
Are these iCloud states stored locally where I could delete a file and then reopen the library I wish to match and update the matches to refresh the iCloud status and hopefully clear out all the duplicate listings?  I am hoping I don't need to start over since this took two days to do.  But if I do, what must be done to start from a clean state.  In addition to clearing out iCloud via deleting from an empty library, are there other local files that need to be purged?

Don't feel bad -- I'm running iTM on Windows XP and it's clearly not listed as supported either.       Are some of those dups greyed out?  I've had that issue if I tried to match and then killed the process before it completed.  If so, you might need to clear all them out before you re-run.   In other words, if you create a new library and see a bunch of iCloud stuff when you enable iTM, you might want to go through and clean up iCloud before you attempt any more local matching on your end.
The only real problem I see with 10.5.8 (or XP for that matter) is that if you contact Apple directly, they might suggest upgrading as the first step since it's not listed as supported.   Unfortunately it is what it is and Apple, like any other large tech company has to set EOL dates for certain OS's.

  • Help! I can't rip songs to my neeon 2 on Windows Vista!

    Hello,
I own a Zen neeon 2 for several years already and organizing my musics on my old computer has been perfectly fine. However, I recently got a new laptop and it has Windows Vista. I successfully installed the software needed to start my neeon2 media explorer. The explorer allows me to organize my musics and videos but it would not let me rip songs. I've tried several different CDs and it's the same. I also tried my MP3 on another computer that has Vista and the same thing happened -- it would not let me rip songs. Then I tried it on my brother's computer which has Windows XP, and it lets me rip songs. So I'm assuming that the problem is that my player is not compatible with Vista.
Is there a software I can download from Creative to fix this problem? I tried to search for firmware update for my Neeon2 but I found none. I found firmware updates for Neeon but not Neeon2.
Please help me! I've been searching the support website tediously and frustratingly for a long time already, and I still can't find a solution. My main source of musics is from CDs! So not being able to rip songs means no more new musics!!!

  • ITunes can't recognize songs on my external hard drive

    Hi,
I moved my iTunes folder onto another external, and then redirected the iTunes to my new drive. It updated all my songs. Then I found that randomly a lot of the songs (about 20%) did not sync up. They all have a "?" icon next to the songs. Now 20% of 500gb is a lot of songs, so there is no way I can updated each and every one.
What's strange is that the iTunes library is identical to the old one, so I don't understand what went wrong with the updating...
Can someone please let me know how I can have all my songs synced again with my library? Did I do something wrong in the process? Do I need to have the same name external hard disc?
I still have the original songs in the old external drive, so if someone can tell me the right procedure I can copy the songs again to do another re-sync.
I have the latest iTunes and most updated system on a Macbook pro.
    Thanks!
    Cal

Whether it can fixed or not depends on how the drive is formatted. If it is FAT32 you may be out of luck, but if it is in a standard Mac format you should be able to fix it. Take a look at this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5908325
For FAT32 I have been unable to find any information at all on either the cause or a solution.

  • Moved music, now itunes can't locate songs

I moved my music to a second internal hard drive hard drive. Now Itunes can't find the songs even though I have changed the music file location. Each song title has an Exclamation point next to it in the itunes library window. Any suggestions?

when it asks you if you want to find the song after you double click on a song to play it, click 'yes' and browse to the folder that the song is in, and click 'ok' and it will work.

  • Itunes can't find songs

Wonder if anyone could help with a problem. I have my iTunes library on an external hard drive. I always try to make sure I connect the drive before opening iTunes but on one occasion I didn't and I found that iTunes changed the library to the default location on my C drive (in my docs/my music folder). I instantly changed this to point to the one on the external drive (H) but now I am getting question marks next to loads of songs indicating that iTunes can't find them. I can't work out why this is??
Does iTunes do something else when moving the location of the library?
Is there a quick way to get iTunes to see all these tracks again without re-importing the tracks from the external drive into iTunes?
    Regards
    Chris

Whit the library location pointing to your external drive, you can click on file at the top of itunes and use add to library. Then in the window that comes up, navigate to the drive and folder that houses your music. If the music is exactly the same, itunes should re-associate the music back to itunes without duplicating entries.

  • ITunes can't sync songs because 'file not found'

I just bought an iPad. Installed some apps etc.
Want to manually manage some music. But almost every song comes up with the error 'iTunes Can't Synch (insert filename) because the file cannot be found. But they are all there. They even sync fine to my iPod Touch.
Anything I can do to fix this? I really want my playlists/music in my iPad as well, without iTunes skipping over half of them because it cannot find them (I can play them just fine: they are there, the error simply pops up syncing to the Pad).

    HI,
Make sure you are syncing from the the correct hard drive. Either on your computer or an external disk where the iTunes library is stored.
If the library is stored locally on your MacBookPro, try restoring the iPad.
On your iPad tap Settings / General / Erase All Content and Settings. Then follow the instructions.
Might be a good idea to not re sync those apps you just installed until after the iTunes library has synced. Then try syncing the apps.

  • Itunes can't read songs to sync. Every few songs Itunes stops the sync because it can't read the song.

When I sync my ipad or iphone, Itunes will start syncing but after every few songs it syncs, itunes interupts the sync with a message saying it can't read the song. I can go to that song in my list of music and play it in itunes but itunes can't read it to sync.  This has just started happening in the last week, 06/28/13.
Does anyone know what is going on.  The message is as follows: iTunes could not copy "such and such song" to the iphone because the file could not be read.
    rhpiper

I didn't understand what you mean. Most of the songs itunes flags are songs I have had on my list for a long time. I did notice something else. After it sends me the message and stops syncing. I press the apply button and it seams to save the song. Then I have to start resyncing and I noticed it syncs the song that it just previously couldn't read. The problem is I have to do this 50 times to get through a sync. Also, Itunes never stops on the same songs that it did the prior sync.

  • Itunes can't locate songs stored in external drive

i had created playlists and added songs to the playlists in itunes 7.02. these songs are stored on an external drive. i did not sync my ipod immediately but tried it a few days later. despite the external drive being connected to my laptop, when i tried to sync the ipod with itunes, for 90% of the songs there was an exclamation mark next to the song & i had to manually double click on a song name in itunes, and locate it in the external drive, in order for itunes to be able to sync it.
i can't do that for 3000+ songs. why can't itunes recognise and locate these songs when they have been stored in the itunes library from the external drive? isn't there a way to tell itunes to locate songs in the external drive? especially when they had been added from there in the first place?

    Hi there,
I'm having the same problem, I'll list it in case I'm somehow different from the other case but unfortunately directing iTunes to that folder doesn't seem to do the trick...?
Have bought a Seagate 320GB external drive, copied my iTunes library (that was located in my /Users/Shared folder) to a new location on my external drive and redirected iTunes to the new location. It said it was updating the folder which took a while and I assumed was a good sign due to my 8948 songs but alas the dreaded exclamation mark has appeared next to every track. If I redirect one to the new location it works fine but f*ed if I'm gonna do that for the other 8947. If I quit iTunes and reopen it, it's still directed to the same correct place and the previously located still works but the rest don't. Is there a) some reason this may not be working correctly; or b) a quick way to redirect every song to their location? Thanks so much for your help.

  • ITunes Can't Locate Songs?

I'm running iTunes 7.7.0.43 and the last time I opened the app, it lost the locations of more than half my library (8000+ songs). I get the dreaded grey ! icon next to each of them -- but only after I try to play one that is missing.
I haven't moved my library or any of its content. (The .itl is on my internal hard drive, while the iTunes music folder is stored on an external. This setup has worked fine in the past.) I viewed the XML file and iTunes is calling the correct location for each of the files in question. It's as if iTunes just need to be manually reminded of where these songs are located, though their location +has not changed+.
Is there any way to fix this without having to re-import my entire library? It is too difficult to manually point iTunes to all the songs, and I'd really like to preserve my playlists and ratings.

First thing, if your songs are protected, which mp4 usually are, then you need to log into your iTunes account and allow access to these songs. Otherwise, what you do is move all your music into your iTunes folder, then you go to File and then "Add Folder to Library" and select either your iTunes music folder or an individual folder. If that doesn't work, then retry the last steps and then go to Advanced and then "Consolidate Library". This will force all your iTunes music into your iTunes folder.

  • ITunes can't find songs anymore!

All my music is stored on my external HD. I've imported it all in iTunes a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly, BUT THEN...
I turned on my computer with my iPod plugged in but i forgot to turn my HD on. So ofcourse iTunes couldn't find the songs. But now when I do have my HD on it still can't find the songs, it gives a sign next to the names, while they're in the same location as they used to be. I also checked the iTunes library xml file and it gives the right location.
I also still had my library files and program folder saved on the HD so i tried recopying these in the right directions but the problem won't solve.
I've got lots of songs so relocating them one by one won't work for me, also i don't want to reimport it all because then I'll have to change some song names back again and it'll copy everything on my ipod again which takes hours..
Is there any way to solve this?
(btw the songs are all in one folder on the harddrive)

I bet windows changed the exHD letter on you.
Eject the ipod, close itunes, and make sure the exHD letter is whatever it was before this mess happened.

  • Family with multiple iPods and multiple iTunes - can we share songs?

I am sure I am not the only one in this situation. There are 4 computers in our house, and 3 individuals with there own iPods. Can one iPod owner who has her own library on her PC go to my son's PC and connect to his iTunes Library to get just one song that he purchased? She tried to "drag" a song from his library onto her iPod, but it wouldn't allow her to. She got some message saying her iPod already has it's own library. Are you saying she can't get one song that I paid for? How are we able to share songs on multiple PCs?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:.
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • ITunes can't locate songs in my library.

It took me a while to point iTunes 11.0.2 (26) 64-bit in 10.8.3 to my existing itunes library that is also used by my 10.6.x system.  Once I did though I went to a playlist and clicked on the song and found that even though it updated my library files (Itunes Library and Itunes Library.xml) it did not actually scan the songs in the library because it couldn't locate the song.  I located the song and it asked me if I wanted it to use that info to find other lost songs which I said yes to.  It proceeded to not even find the rest of the songs in the same directory I had pointed it to.  Now I have about 4165 songs missing!  *** iTunes?!?!  I have NO MISSING SONGS under 10.6.x and I'm using the same library files and the  same library structure and everything.  IS there a way to do this other than repointing iTunes to the existing library?  Please help me or I will be forced to write iTunes off.  Which in my opinion is getting easy as the whole program is getting worse and worse from a cpl years ago.
    Thanks in advance.

The problem of tracks becoming de-linked between iTunes and the music files in your iTunes music folder happens for different reasons - this seems to come up fairly commonly in this forum.
The solution can be to locate each song in the iTunes library, as you mentioned - or, but wait, before I get to that...
trouble finding the original track in your iTunes music folder? maybe look for it under compilations, or if not using the 'group compilations preference' then look in the folder under the songs artist name, but what song artist name iTunes uses depends on what you have in the metedata tag spot for album artist or song artist. Any varyation in artist name spelling, in the menu item 'get info' metadata for any selected individual track will cause iTunes to create that as a separate artist folder in the library, even names like 'various' or any difference at all (even the word 'the' can change where in your iTunes music folder a track gets placed by iTunes). You can try to use the finder function of find file (finder munu item outside of iTunes) to locate hard to find items.
Back to how to re-link any de-linked tracks .
There may be scripts that can help re-link de-linked music files - or, at least provide you a list of such files, Scripts are easy to install and use...
at Dougs Scripts, there is one called iTunes Track CPR that might work
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunestrackcpr
or, if you just want a list of de-linked tracks, go to
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/
and find the script called List MIA's, this will create a text file listing all de-linked tracks
