ITunes  can't see other Ipod synced by another computer.

I have another IPod that is used by someone else. She wants it erased and it needs to be updated, but they are having problems with their dial up connection. It keeps saying that it has to be updated first. I said that I would try it on my computer. But when I hook it up, my ITunes doesn't see it. ( It doesn't show up on the left side, under devices ) If I plug in my Ipod, it shows up. How do I get ITunes to see both her Ipod and mine on my computer?

ok, so i just tried my sisters iPhone & it doesnt work either...so it must be some kind of connection issue arising from my PC & not a problem with the iPod Touch or the Remote program..does anyone think i need to make any adjustments to my router settings?
i ran a diagnostics on iTunes & it passed all tests

Doublechecking. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

I keep my laptop music on an external drive. Today the drive accidentally got disconnected and thus iTunes (latest version Win XP) does not recognize it. OK, simple I thought and so I went into ADVANCE and set the directory to:
    G:\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
No change in iTunes not recognizing the tunes.
I have keep iTunes Music organized and Copy to iTumes checked.

  • IPod synced with another computer message

I have an iPod and an iPod nano suing iTunes on one computer, when I plug the iPod in and try to sync it, the iPod syneced to another computer comes up. The nano works fine. The iPods use two different playlists and the playlist for the iPod is empty. Is there any way to get the songs off the iPod and back onto the computer?

"Is there any way to get the songs off the iPod and back onto the computer?"
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • ITunes won't see my iPod, syncing

Hey, I just upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard and my iTunes will no longer see my iPod when I plug it in via my USB. I know the USB port works fine (everything else plugged in there always works). If I re-install iTunes it will usually see my iPod but I really don't want to keep re-installing iTunes just to sync my iPod with my music.
    Any ideas?

    HI and welcome......
    Mac OS X (10.6.3)
If you forum profile is correct, update the Mac OS X to v10.6.5. If you didn't repair permissions after upgrading to v10.6, you should do that.
Click your Apple menu / Software Update...
    Then repair disk permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

  • Ubuntu, Windows, and iTunes can't see my iPod. What can I do?

I have an iPod 5g and i have been messing around with it and i discovered the problem of iTunesLock preventing me from accessing the iPod and putting itself back on. Well in a stroke of genius I deleted the Play Counts and iTunesLock files also trying to see if that would stop iTunesLock from reappearing every time i plug in my iPod.
Now my computer (running Ubuntu 7.10) does not see it at all. Also windows does not see it, until i remove it then it says my iPod is corrupted, but when i connect it, iTunes denies any knowledge of seeing it.
I tried to use this website to help and it did nothing for me.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/38851/2004/09/trubipod.html
Right now when i turn it on it shows the "Connect to computer. Use iTunes to restore iPod."
then it goes into disk mode. Strangely, even in disk mode neither windows nor Linux can see it.
I went into the diagnostics menu and everything seems to check out fine.
i know there is a .Trash-matthew file on the iPod and i have a great suspicion that if i can get on the iPod and see the hidden files then i could just put the file back.
Also BIOS does see it so I don't think its completely bricked yet.
I am using linux but I have access to Windows Vista. So I can work in either format.
for those versed in Linux here are some commands and their outputs for you to use:

  • Windows and itunes can now see my ipod!!

    Hi
    Chris... any anyone else interested
I have managed to get my ipod to work with windows and itunes. but at a cost. some of my music and movies will not coppy back ontot he ipod and chkdsk of C:\ showed many errors in the itunes directory. these files worked previously so my conclusion is that updating has somehow corrupted files and ipod update software on the ipod itself.
Heres what i had to do
    1. My pod was showing version 1.0 even though I had version 1.2 previously. this may have been due to the attempt at a re-set from advice given on the forum for trying to get reconnection (5R's) so i wanted to re-run updater.
    2. ipod updater (found in C:\program files\ipod) could not run due to previous topics posted (ipod ejected after 10 seconds without update and drive diappears from 'my computer'). so...I uninstalled itunes 7.2, and reinstalled itunes 6. To do this I had to rename my current library 'itunes 7.02 old' to avoid the 'itunes cannot continue to install as your library was created in a later version' error message.
    3. Itunes 6 still did not recognise itunes and kicked it off windows too just like before. The difference was however that this time running ipod updater from C:\program files\ipod\.... allowed it to update from the previous installer and this set the ipod back to version 1.1 but obviously during this process all items on the ipod were deleted. This update was allowed despite the drive not showing up in 'my computer'?
    4. plugging in the updated ipod opened itunes and at last the ipod icon appeared and the drive remained in windows. I updated to software version 1.2 and itunes 7.02
    5. I then went into c:\......my music\itunes and renamed the current library 'itunes' to '7.02' and my previously renamed 'itunes library 7.02 old' back to 'itunes'
    6. on restarting itunes my whole old library was reinstated.
there were 68 problems and an empty 'movie' folder was seen as 'corrupt' by windows. CHKDSK on C drive removed any corruption. Everything else seems to be updating ok....my purchased games, movies, audio etc...
So in summary if you are stuck in the loop of being unable to restore an old itunes due to having a new library or not being able to use the previous ipod updater to restore your ipod follow the steps above and all should be ok.
this does not solve the cause however so any comments on what may have happened would be most appreciated.
    Matt/Alan

    Hey there MattSK123,
Thank you for your question. It sounds like you are unable to see either of your devices in the sidebar of iTunes after a recent update. A number of issues could cause this type of behaviour, and would recommend starting with the troubleshooting from the article named:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
If the issue is not resolved, I would next re install iTunes from either of the following articles depending on the version of Windows you have:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
    Or

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • How can I move my iPhone sync to another computer?

I currently sync my iPhone to my laptop.    I'm not using the laptop anymore, and would like to sync to my desktop instead.   When I try to sync on my desktop, I get a warning that all my app data will be erased and replaced with the desktop version.  Also, I can see where my home screen is completely different in iTunes.
Obviously, I don't want to lose anything...  so how can I change which machine I want to sync with?
I've tried running a backup on the desktop, and also using the transfer purchases option, but neither of these seems to have the results I want.
    Charlie

I don't think you can. Well not at least until you have 5 computers authorized. When you have 5 computers authorized there should be an option to "unauthorize all" in your account settings.
If you get to 5 computers authorized and you need a 6th, do this and then re-authorize the others you need.
It would be handy if you could just pick a machine to unauthorize in iTunes.

  • I re-installed Windows - Itunes says my iPod is for another computer

So I re-installed Windows XP Pro on my computer and I just installed iTunes. I also updated my iPod. I have a 4GB Ipod Nano 2nd Gen. Itunes tells me that my iPod is for another computer, obviously since I re-intalled windows. How do I make it native to this copy of Windows vs my old one? Even tho they're the same copy..

So you didn't back up your stuff before you formatted your HD?
    Bummer...

  • Iphone synced with another computer after reinstalling win7

After reinstalling windows 7, itunes states my iphone 4 is synced with another computer and wants to erase all my music and content.

    Hi there,
Thanks for that, explains a little. I have changed my operating system to Windows 8 and I am now accessing my library from my back up drive when it was previously accessed on my main drive.
I imagine itunes is seeing another hard drive as in your reply above. If this is the case how can it be resolved? copy my entire library into the itunes music folde as is the default setting?

  • How come I can't see my Ipod Touch on Itunes?

When I had the 9.2 version (the one before 10), just recently before I changed it to 10, my Ipod Icon wouldn't show up on Itunes so I couldnt sync my ipod or do anything, even though it was plugged and was charging. So, then I was like okay, maybe that's my cue to download the newest version of Itunes. Well once I did that, I could sync and see my ipod again on Itunes for a few days, but just now, I plugged in my Ipod and it's doing the same thing again! It's charging, but I can't see my ipod and its options. So I'm not sure if it's my Ipods problem or maybe it's not compatible to the version? I have the 2Gen Ipod touch. Anyone know?

I can't see my ipod in itunes  and my computer. There is an error code 10
    please help

My problem is almost the same, I went to plug my 60g iPod into my PC USB port, and it locked up my computer and iPod. Now my iPod is stuck on the Do not disconnect screen and hasn't even changed the time at the top, still stuck at 10:05AM. I'm getting kind of upset here. I haven't even had the thing for over a year yet and I keep it in good shape.
Any ideas on how to fix would be helpful.
