  • Buying French or World music (itunes France) from North America through itu

    Hello,
I live in Canada and would like to buy French music (or UK or German music or Asian music) through itunes. If I connect to itunes store in Canada, none of the french songs I'm looking for shows up. I cannot get access to itunes France since they claim I don't have a credit card in France (isn't that a very lame excuse, pardon me but my canadian credit card is accepted anywhere around the world, why not on itunes France !!! Are they that special ?).
My beef is that people in Canada or USA should be able to buy music from anywhere around the world, not just in their own country, isn't that another lame implementation of itunes ?? Why should I limit myself to canadian music only ??
If I want to buy songs from Hong Kong, I should be allowed to do that on itunes as well.
If Itunes doesn't get this right, well many like me will flock to other services which will soon be ready to fill this void. Actually, to anyone who's listening out there, here's a perfect business opprtunity that itunes is stupid enough to leave wide open for others to exploit.
Do you guys at itunes have a valid reason to limit buyers to their local music selection instead of giving them access to a world wide selection instead ?
Hmm, waiting for a response ...

As I mentioned before, the official reason that I received from Apple was that my credit card wasn't accepted in th e local countries where I wanted to buy the songs.
What they mean is that you need a credit card issued in the country of the iTunes Music Store from which you want to purchase (or a gift certificate or prepaid card purchased in that country). That's how the iTMS (and most if not all of the other stores) verifies residence.
But as I said before, Napster is legit and I believe you can do cross border shopping through them ... That's what mp3.com would have you believe anyway ..
Nope. If you live in the US, you can only buy from the US Napster, and in Canada, you can only by from Napster Canada. That's why they have separate stores for each country. Try it and I think you'll see that I'm correct.

  • How to use ITunes France when you live in Uk ?

how to use ITunes France on IPad ou IPhone when you live in UK ?

    Ok thanks,
but living in uk do you think I can manage both addresses France and London ID with Apple?
Can I keep my Apple ID UK ?
On my Ipad, I am automatically directed on the uk store . My IPhone could still work with the Uk ID if I change it for France one?
Sorry but I am a bit confused

  • I am unable to buy on itunes as I live in France and use an English credit card which is registeredwh to my French address. itunes UK don't like the French address, itunes France don't like the English credit card. Any ideas on how to buy?

I am unable to buy on itunes as I live in France but use an English credit card which is registered to my French address. itunes UK don't like the French address, itunes France don't like the English credit card. Any ideas on how to buy? (Without having to pay for a French credit card)

Go to a place in France and purchase an iTunes gift card. You should be able to use that in the French iTunes store if you have a French address associated with your iTunes account.

  • I'm not able to purchase from iTunes France, I'm not able to purchase from iTunes France

I wanted to download some great music only available on iTunes France - when I sign in they tell me that  my login and password only enable me to purchase from iTunes UK. If I try and register as new on the Fr website and if I put my own email, they tell me that I am already registered and should login. I can't get out of this runaround and just wish to purchase this amazing album only available in iTunes.fr. What can I do? Thanks.

You can purchase ONLY from the itunes store of your country of residence ( as proven by the valid billing address on your credit card) and ONLY while inside the borders of that country.

  • Why is it only possible to get French Language Films via iTunes France - I can buy Blu-ray in the Supermarket in multiple language?  It makes no sense!

I am English Speaking My wife is Dutch my Children speak 3 Languages.  We love AppleTV BUT we can only get films (in general) in Version Originale (French Only) and this makes no sense...
We can go to the local supermarket and buy DVDs and Blu-ray Discs that allow us to watch the up-to-date movies in a range of languages so why not on this AppleTV OTT service?
    It makes no sense.
Just because we live in France does not mean we want to watch Hollywood Movies in French?
So much for What you Want-When you want-Wherever you are...

It really does have to do with content permissions. The studios that release the Bluray and DVD versions might not always be the rights bearer to the film, they just bear rights to distribute it on physical media. Most films are made by different companies, then released by Sony, Paramount, and other distribution channels. But in the online realm, different disributors own the rights (and Apple doesn't participate with them or is unable to in some countries). Perhaps Sony distributed films will sell in your local store or be played by a Sony owned TV station locally. But perhaps online Sony doesn't hold that distribution rights to distribute the film online, Warner Brothers or somebody else does. Therefor, they don't allow it online in that market. The licensing is in limbo.
Most American films I buy in China on DVD from Wal Mart, are distributed by a Chinese company and not the original American film studio. Also in USA, the price for a new DVD is about $20 USD, in China it is only $2 USD. So to limit everyone in USA from buying Chinese DVDs at a cheaper price to watch American movies, they put content restrictions on the media (ie. the DVD region codes) so the DVD won't play in an American player.
The same goes for online rights. Your local government, copyright offices and local content license holders do not distribute the movie you want online. They distribute it on physical media or TV broadcast. But they have not secured permission or agreed on what price to sell the movies for online in your market. Apple has no say in this. In fast, the only store Apple controls in the US store. All other local iTunes stores are really virtual stores in place for locals to buy from local distributors.
The Chinese people are in no hurry to download from the US iTunes store because it cost too much. But if the Americans could download from the Chinese iTunes store, they could buy any movie they like for less than $1 and all the money goes to China, and not the US. Hence the restriction.
So copyright holders are just fighting over prices and rights and don't want to or legally can't release it online in your local store.

  • VOST films in itunes France

Why are there hardly any VOST film to but/rent on the french itunes??? I cant even change location to the UK to buy films, whats the problem with buying a english film from the UK itunes while living in france and using a French credit card, come on????

As has been said here many, many times, availability of content is totally up the owners of the content. Apple would love to have every distributor participate, but many film companies are reluctant or totally unwilling to allow download sales of their work, and some may be willing but be unable to negotiate the appropriate rights with the various people who made a given movie (actors, director, etc.)
whats the problem with buying a english film from the UK itunes while living in france
The rights holders differ from country to country and each entity wants the revenue for sales into their territory. Hence they do not allow any download store to sell across country borders. Things are further complicated by copyright laws, union contracts, and many other factors. The EU is working on this problem and may eventually force things to change, but when that will actually happen is anyone's guess.
    Regards.

  • From Canada, moved to France.  Battery problems!!!

I just moved from 110 volt Canada to 220 volt France for a year, so I bought the world adapter kit.  It's supposed to take care of converting the voltage, but my battery for my Macbook Pro and also my iPhone are dying within hours.  And I haven't been using them much yet, I don't even have a French SIM installed yet, and can't make calls or use data. Feel like I'm killing my batteries in just a matter of days, but don't have easy access to the Genius Bar.  Help!!!

I didn't really make assumptions, I asked in stores before I left and I bought the adapter in London on my arrival.  They said magsafe would do the conversion for me, and the included iPad/iPod/iPhone adapter in the kit would solve the conversion for that product too.  I have just recharged the phone via my MBP, so I hope that will help but, the phone has essentially been sitting unused like a brick in my pocket, so no, 8 hours of use is not enough.  As for the computer, last I used it, it lost 2% power within 5 minutes and I was only working in the system preferences, trying to set up internet without success.  Thanks, though!

  • Can't find any tab called "Ping" on iTunes 10

Okay so I just googled about the much-hyped Ping and was quite impressed with Apple's innovation. So I updated my Mac to iTunes 10....but I simply couldn't find Ping under the iTunes store tab! I tried the iTunes tutorial but it was of no help! I googled again where can I find Ping in iTunes, but failed to find anything. Even my friend living in Dubai couldn't the Ping tab when he updated to iTunes 10. So people could you help me and my friend out?
Or is it something like Ping is only available for U.S citizens?
    I live in the U.K.
    Thanks for the help!

iTunes Ping is available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and the United States.
It's not in the Store menu, but listed under the store in the left sidebar:

  • ICloud with iTunes 10.3.1???

OK I downloaded iTunes 10.3.1 and nothing happened. It just seems as another regular update. Have checked all the menus, have right clicked with my mouse different songs and nothing. I purchased a song and the opened the iPod app on my iPhone and nothing there.
    Am I missing something???
    Thanks,
    Cesar

Thanks for your prompt reply Carolyn.
Good to see the relevant information on the page you linked to.
Unfortunately I didn't use that page.
My path: email from MobileMe which linked to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/ which linked to
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ which states: "Purchases from the
iTunes Store are available only in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada,
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan,
Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States."
In this day and age there must be a way to see which country the consumer is
in and only sending the information relevant to their territory?
Especially as http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ specifically asked me
    which country I am in.
