Itunes cannot be uninstalled.

Ok so I have a problem with Itunes, as of 2 days ago it doesn't recognize my ipod, it gives me an error saying that I need to reinstall itunes for it to fix the problem, I think ok, I will just uninstall it and reinstall it, no prob. Here in lies the problem, I can't uninstall it. I don't know what to do short of re-formating, and while I don't mind it I am really lazy to do that, and I would love to avoid that if possible. Thanks for all help.

Unless you're tying to get your wife's email flooded with spam and identitly theft attempts, it's a bad idea to post personal info in a public forum.  You realize that this is a user-to-user tech support site and not Apple support. Right?
Uninstall iTunes first before installing the new version.  The iPhone backup files won't be deleted.

Started having trouble with iTunes so I uninstalled everything and tried to reinstall but it says ' iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes.'  Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times.  Now what?

I figured it out.  A week ago I had downloaded a screensaver from a website I trusted and that's when my problems started. I uninstalled it but that didn't help.  So, I reinstalled it then used an uninstall softtware app that cleanns more than the control panel does. Then I used a computer cleaner to be sure everything was wiped clean.  And it worked.  I downloded iTunes for the 7th time in 2 days and finally it worked!  And I lost nothing from my account.

I would go through ALL the steps here:

  • TS1538 Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows.

Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows. However, the driver "Microsoft teredo Tunneling adapter" has a yellow exclamation mark, which i believe means it's not installed correctly or something is wrong with it. This driver is under the Network Adapters (Please see picture below).
This is what happens when I connect my iPhone 4s to my laptop (Windows 7 Starter 32-bit)
    1. The phone charges it's battery
    2. I can open it in My Computer and import/export media files.
    In iTunes
    3. It start to sync until step 3 then stops.
    4. The iPhone option with an arrow appears beside the iTunes Store, but when the arrow is clicked it disappears.
I hope you can provide me a solution for this problem.
    Thanks,
    Ralph

    Hi ralphagir,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
For your iTunes issue with it not recognizing your iPhone, I would go ahead and suggest deleting iTunes and all of its components from your Windows computer and installing fresh.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
As far as the arrow button that you click and the iPhone disappears, it sounds like you may be clicking on the eject button. Please take a look at the following article for information on the eject button in iTunes.

  • "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." What is this?

I have been getting this error message since about the end of June when I updated to the latest version of iTunes. It's pretty annoying. Let me lay out how this has been happening for the past month, the best I can. I have a 32GB 4th gen iPod Touch
I load content up to my iPod. Music, Apps, Videos, pictures, etc.
My iPod works well for a little while, days sometimes a week is the longest I went without seeing this message.
I connect iPod back to my laptop through the standard pack in Apple USB connector.
I get the "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." message. When I go to the preferences tab, I click restore and iTunes gets stuck trying to restore my iPod. Then I have to uplug my iPod. And Shutdown/Restart my PC reconnect my iPod, and go through the restore process again.
I have been doing this for as I said, a month. It's getting pretty grueling to keep havomh putting cotent on my iPod after these restores.
    I've tried everything.
I've stopped autosync, it still happens.
I tried to reinstall iTunes(be it I didn't full uninstall before trying to install again and got the option to fix corrupted files and such
I've deleted all old back up, and it still happens
Today is the fist time I'm fully uninstalling iTunes, and then reinstalling to see if this works.
But do you guys have any otehr solutions for this? As I said, this didn't start happening until I installed the lastest version of iTunes 10.6.3

    - Have you tried another cable?
    - Another USB port?
    - When you have the problem, connect it to another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.
    - Try just restoring the iPod to factory settings/new iPod. Do not restore from backup. If you still have the problem with this and all computer that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

So, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes from the apple website. That did not help.
I've tried opening iTunes while holding option.  That did not help.
I'm not sure what else to try.  I've looked through the forums, but nothing seems to work.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Never mind sorted it out lol. Somebody did a system restore of a week or so. I had done the update during that time and it was lost. Just redownloaded itunes from the internet and its working fine now.

I am trying to update ITunes from 10.4 to 10.5 I have tried from both the program, and from a download on Apple's website. Regardless, I get the following error messages: (1) Installation package for iTunes cannot be found. Try installing to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes.  I can't find this folder. I have tried to completely unistall iTunes through the Control Panel, but it wouldn't let me: I tried going directly to the files themselves, but cannot uninstall. Any help would be greatly appreciated. System OS: Win XP SP 3.

Set the permissions for Everyone in the folder in which CCPackager created, to "Read/Write" enabled. This is strange since there is only an administrator account on the Mac (and that account already has read/write), but it seems to resolve the issue.

  • The older version of itunes cannot be removed. contact your technical support group.

    need help with itunes 12.1
my itunes was working just fine on my windows 7 pro PC.
Update 12.1 popped up and I clicked download and install and now all of my itunes is gone.
I uninstalled all Apple software packages, and also pain stakingly went thru my registry line by line and deleted all references to itunes, apple, quicktime, etc., then downloaded fresh downloads of the installer and each time I get just about to the end of the installer and a window pops up and says
"the older version of itunes cannot be removed. contact your technical support.
So, I tried downloading the previous version 11.4 and 10.7 64bit installers and then the system won't even get started doing an install when the system responds...
"a newer version of itunes is already installed", and the installer quits.
I have cleaned my registry now about 5 times, I ran all of the apps to clean my PC of all of the apple and itune files. I am an administrator on my PC. I also went as far as creating a second administrator and switching under that account and still get the same responses.
I have removed any attached external drives and tried the installer.
I have tried to install itunes under a different folder location instead of the default C:\Program Files directory.
I have tried to install via the Apple Software Upgrade utility as well as direct downloads of the installers.
All of my music is gone.
When I run the installer now, all of the other apple software files install ok, with the exception of itunes. It gets nearly complete when the "older version" error comes up then I notice it backs off the installation and no files or directories are created.
There is nothing in the Control Panel 'Add/Remove Programs' as far as iTunes, their are no directories or files, yet it still sees a old version of itunes referenced in some file on the pc.
I ran a couple of utilities such as CCleaner, Everything, Revo Uninstaller and Registry Reviver, as well as going thru regedit line by line for hours to remove references to apple and itunes - all still with the same results.
Either I get a 'the older version cannot be removed' or 'a newer version of itunes is already installed'
    very frustrated.
anyone have a installer that will complete ignoring any errors?

  • ITunes won't open -error: The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created...

    Hello,
I am not able to open my iTunes. I was able to use it yesterday. I keep getting the message:
*The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder.*
I have created a folder called "iTunes" in my "My Music" folder, which does not fix the problem.
I have uninstalled and installed iTunes twice.
I have used the repair option when trying to install iTunes over the top of my current iTunes.
None of these options has fixed the problem.
If anyone knows how to fix this, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks!

I found the answer on another board... Below are the parts I found useful (quoted).
    Click on Start
    Clin on Run
    Type in "regedit" Enter
Do this step twice as there are two locations. +(I actually had 4 locations.)+
    CTRL F
    Type in "My Music"
Double Click and enter the path for where the folder is located.
    Then exit.
The exact locations of the 2 entries that I changed are
hkeycurrentuser - software - microsoft - windows - current version - explorer - shell folders
    and
as above - windows - current version - explorer - USER shell folders
I located the location of my iTunes folder (something like this - C:\Documents and Settings\"yourname"\My Documents\My Music\iTunes.
I copied it, and when I found the regedit location referred to, doubleclicked the location and pasted the path in there.

Help please. I get the message "The folder Itunes cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the My Music folder". As a result, I cannot get Itunes to load. Have uninstalled and reloaded, repaired etc, all not working as still end up getting same message. Have also made an ITunes folder in My music, all to no avail. No viruses and virus library totally up to date. Getting to stage where I want to throw Ipod in bin and get an Iriver as its driving me insane!!

Here is a copy of the ilounge entries. I got one of my more IT literate guys to do this - but it looked easy when he did it!! important thing is it all came back - was a problem as I had moved an external hard drive so one of the locations detailed below showed the old address.
    Good luck!!

I have uninstalled everything - quicktime, apple mobile, every single file. I have rebooted, run searches to make sure there were no files at all left - did it through control panel, search etc., rebooted and downloaded it again (this make about 5 times now) and still get that same message that the folder cannot be found. • Get Error Message "itunes cannot run because some of its required files ...

complete message that i see in a pop-up window -- "itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall itunes".
I check windows update. Microsoft says I'm up to date. When I reinstall ipod off the CD and/or itunes/quicktime from iTunesSetup.exe file version 7.0.2.16 it installs ok. If I choose unintall then reinstall or if I repair the itunes software the install program says everything is fine.
However when I connect to Ipod. The ipod window comes up in itunes and then shuts down real fast. Itunes continues to work but i can't see the ipod.
The showstopper happens when i shut down itunes after the attempt to connect the ipod. When I restart itunes i get the message -- "itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall itunes".
    Reinstall **** resumes.
    What files are missing?
It would be nice if the interface offered more details. Or I could go online to a self diagnostic and repair web page like Microsoft offers.
Things should be made as simple as possible, but not any simpler. -- Einstien..
I think things are too simple...
    What are my options?
    Help Please.

"itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall itunes".
Just uninstall and reinstall. If you get some kind of error in the uninstall process, then if it were me, I'd use windows system restore to restore your system right before the original install of iTunes. Even if you don't get the error when you uninstall, it sounds to me like it hasn't been installed properly. So if you decide to go with system restore and the same thing happens, I would download a fresh copy of iTunes installer from their website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Make sure you download the one for Windows.
"I check windows update. Microsoft says I'm up to date."
This is because that you are. Microsoft has nothing to do with iTunes updates.

  • ITunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing.....

"iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes."
Is the error message I receive when trying to launch iTunes or updating my iPod.
I have tried uninstalling both iTunes and qtime, restarting, installing with the iTunes75Setup.exe found on the iTunes download page from apple.com.
To help narrow the issue, during install/uninstall/repair this error also occurs as it is "Registering iTunes automation server"
any suggestion on how to resolve this issue would be great

First uninstall Quicktime 7.3 only in control panel. Then download Quicktime 7.2 from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktimeforwindows.html. Hopefully it works for you because it worked for mine.

Right, I'm going to try something, if this works, then this'll probably fix a lot of iTunes problems.
1: Make sure your whole iTunes database is backed up.
2: Uninstall iTunes, then run "Revo Uninstaller", this will remove ALL traces of iTunes from you computer, not your library.
I've found out that when un-installing or re-installing over a previous version of iTunes will carry over some problems from previous versions, or even create problems. Registry leftovers can be a problem also. Completely removing iTunes using "Revo Uninstaller" then re-installing will have the same effect as installing iTunes from a fresh OS install. Typically iTunes should be problem free when installed totally fresh.
3: Re-install the correct version of iTunes fresh and try again.
