ITunes cannot communicate with iPod

I just bought an iPod nano, but when I connect it to my computer, it says that iTunes cannot communicate with the iPod to initialize the iPod, and that I should reinstall iTunes.
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes about 5 times, using the directions on the support webpage. I've checked my drivers and everything.
Also, no matter what, whenever I click on the iTunes icon to start it, it always takes 3-5 minutes for the iTunes program to pop up.

okay.
sometimes in earlier versions of itunes (itunes 6.0.x), that message could be caused by a snarlup in the registry keys on the PC. (plausibly in this case something like that might be related to the problem with the administrator account.)
in the 6.0.x days we could get some relief from that sometimes by applying the markinmadison technique:
markinmadison: Re: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed..."
(in your case, rather than reinstalling itunes and the ipod updater, you'd just be reinstalling itunes. the ipod updater is no longer a standalone application ... itunes 7.0.x itself is used for updates and installs.)

  • ITunes cant communicate with iPod Mini

Recently I plugged my iPod mini into my computer to update the songs, only to have my iPod freeze up. After a while it worked again and all my songs were gone from my iPod. When I plugged it back into my computer and opened iTunes to load all the songs back on, iTunes froze and wouldnt work, when I unplugged my iPod a message would pop up saying something like "the software needed for iTunes to communicate with IPod is missing, please reinstall iTunes" after reinstalling both iTunes and the iPod software, I still have this problem.

    So...
You have updated to iTUNES 5.0 and iPOD Mini version 1.4?
Some reports are up around the web about people having iPOD update problems after installing iTUNES 5.0.
Apparently, Apple will be issuing an update next week to fix the problem.
My iPOD updates fine, but I am getting a pop at the beginning of each song when I play iTUNES through my stereo using my Airport Express with Airtunes.
Never had a popping problem with the previous version.

  • Itunes cannot communicate with my iphone

I installed an update and then I tried to restore and i received a message that my iphone (4s) cannot communicate with itunes. (on mac) Any suggestions?

    Hello there kellynocca,
Given what you are describing I recommend starting here with the iOS: Troubleshooting USB connection article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1286.
Once you determine that your computer has a USB 2.0 connection, use the following steps to troubleshoot the connection between the device and the computer. Test after each step:
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Plug the device directly into a high-power USB 2.0 port on the computer. If possible, use a USB port on the back of the computer.Avoid plugging the device into a keyboard, display, or standalone hub. The USB ports on these accessories may be low-power or only offer USB 1.x connections.
If you are using an accessory, remove the device from the dock and connect it to the computer using only the Apple USB to Dock Connector cable. If you have access to additional Apple USB to Dock Connector cables, try testing with another if the first one doesn't work.
Restart your computer and device. To restart your device:Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on.
Disconnect all USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then reconnect the iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect other USB devices, testing after each connection.
Another article describes what to do if you are using Windows and see an unknown error containing "0xE" when connecting your device.
IF that does not get your device to communicate with iTunes correctly I recommend restarting both the computer and the iPhone.

As a last resort I would recommend backing up to iCloud, and restoring the device.

  • Cannot get itunes to communicate with IPOD

When i connect my ipod classic or shuffle i get the following message:-
"The software required for communicating with the IPOd is not installed correctly. Please reinstal iTunes to install iPod's software."
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, tried selective startup, tried re-installing v7.6. But each case gives me the same message.
Itunes worked before the 7.7 upgrade. I cannot understand why I get the same message on Itunes 7.6 now.
Installed Itunes on my works computer and this recognises my IPOD's OK.

  • ITunes can't communicate with iPod - AGAIN

I got the pop up this morning "iTunes maybe unable to communicate with iPod". So I followed the instructions from the link. And reboot my PC. I relaunched iTunes and still got the pop up saying it maybe unable to communicate.
Does anyone know what is causing this, and have a work around? Or is there a decent 3rd party software that will do the work of iTunes?

It was my friend Gail who was having problems. I finally went over to her house to check it out this morning, and found out she was logged on to her machine twice, once as herself and once under her guest account. She logged on to the guest account to check something or other out, and didn't realize there was a difference between "switch users" and logging off of one account and on to another. :-P
So the answer to your question is "Yes". Thanks for your time. I think we can count this issue as resolved.

  • Software not installed correctly to communicate with ipod/iphone. This message appears when itunes is opened

software not installed correctly to communicate with ipod/iphone. please install again

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Software necessary to communicate with Ipod not properly installed

    Hi,
I updated my Itunes software and have been having problems ever since. Every time I connect my Ipod I get the message: "Software necessary to communicate with Ipod not properly installed. Reinstall Itunes..." After I click Ok it goes to Itunes but it does not recognized the Ipod. Now I have reinstalled several times and even downgraded to a previous Itunes version but keep getting the same error. Even though I don't know if this has anything to do with it, yesterday I noticed that I cannot watch any YouTube videos either, i get the error: "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player" Any help would be highly appreciated!

A lot of users are getting this. See 'can not open iTunes' obove this in the forum

  • IPod Updater Code problem? iTunes not connecting with iPod.

There may be a problem with the iPod updater.
    I have a 15 GB iPod (JQ418QZLQQF)
Updated iTunes to 5.0.1.4. Connected iPod.
Got a window...told me to downloaded iPod Updater 9/23/05. Did it.
Updated iPod. iTunes would start writing and then quit. Got a window; told me to restore iPod.
Tried restore 7 times. Failed. When iTunes tried to load it stalled, then McAfee Antivirus program hung up, then got messages that it could no longer communicate with iPod ... got (-36) errors.
Got FAQ sheets. Did everything. Unplugged from internet, disabled antivirus program. No luck.
Unloaded every non-related program in RAM. No luck.
Tried iTunes and iPod in SAFE mode. No luck.
Last error message was "Attempting to copy to the disk "IPOD" failed. An unknown error occurred (-53)"
Bought 5th generation 20 GB iPod Color. Plugged it in.
Reformatted it with the 9/23/05 ipod updater. ... iTunes could not connect to it.
Tried the 9/6/05 updater. Still didn't work.
Opened the CD that it came with and installed the 6/5/05 ipod updater software. iTunes immediately recognized the new ipod and loaded songs without failure.

I ran into this on a client system yesterday. Same issue re: new songs with a dock ipod running ver 2.2.
I tried to update on three separate g4 based macs, each running 10.3.9. On one, the ipod failed to mount. On the other two, the updater gave the message {approx} "the firmware for the update is not present" when the Update button was clicked.
For no good reason, I tried using the "Update" in the Options menu instead of the button. I immediately got an administer confirmation box, gave the password, and the update proceded correctly. Monkey behavior triumphs. Got to be an installer bug. Try it and let us know if this works for you.

  • My itunes cannot detect my ipod touch 5g. How do I fix this?

My itunes cannot detect my ipod touch 5g. How do I fix this?
All I know is that my itunes has not been updated. If this is the problem, I tried to close and reopen the program but the "update" popup isn't popping up anymore and I'm not sure where I can manually update it myself.
    Please help!
    Thanks

The 5G (iOS 6) require 10.5 or higher
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.7 or later7 (free download from www.apple.com/itunes/download)

  • ITunes cannot recognize this iPod at this time....

My Shuffle 2G lost power yesterday and when I connected it to my Mac mini to recharge, the light flashed a few times before getting the error prompt "iTunes cannot recognize this iPod at this time." The prompt instructs the use of the reset utility, which I ran repeatedly to no avail. I've tried all the rebooting, restarting iTunes, switching USB ports, etc. with the same error message each time.
The power indicator is no longer responding at all following the first time that I connected it yesterday. Is my Shuffle completely fried? I've only had it a year and it was hardly ever used during that duration. Help!

The exact same thing just happened to my 2nd Gen shuffle. It stopped playing due to low battery charge, then when i tried to connect it ti iTunes, it said it 'could not recognize iPod at this time" and to use the reset utikity. I have now ran the reset utility a few times....but there is no change.
I would really appreciate some help in solving this issue.......
