ITUNES Cannot Connect to Airport Express

I have been using an Airport Express for almost 2 years on my existing Windows XP wireless netwoek to stream music from iTunes to my home stereo. I recently changed to an "N" type WAP. Ever since, I have had problems getting the Airport to work. After resetting it several times I was able to get into the the set-up menu. The only thing I did was set a static IP of 192.168.2.105. I did not change the default password. I now have a green light, but when I select Airport from iTUNES it tries to connect, but fails with no error message. I can see the Airport from both the Express Assistant and the Admin Utility, but when I try to configure it ask for my password. When I enter the default password "public" I get a "bad param" error on the Expert Assitant and a "6753" error from Admin Utility. Does anyone have a suggestion?......[email protected]

Clearly as one reads down the list of complaints about iTunes 10, we are far from alone with our headaches concerning Airport devices, whether a Mac platform or PC (windows). I have stability issues with mine (cuts out from time to time), and it has nothing to do with the usual typical iTunes stalls.
When I turn iTunes on for the first time, though my device is visible in drop down, and I have full bars on icon, I usually have to go through several repeat operations and work arounds just to get the computer to speak to the device again. Once I finally connect, there are intermittent interruptions, some for mere seconds, some for a minute or more. Nothing indicates there is a problem on the iTunes screen - and the music (most telling) is playing uninterrupted from my office speakers (plugged in directly to computer). I tried re-booting Airport and also tried pushing in the little button with a paper clip to "re-set" to factory. Nothing helped. It's a pain getting it to reconnect and not satisfying dealing with the interruptions out in the living room. Apple is AWOl on this, and this seems more typical than not, unfortunately. For what we pay (extra) for their equipment and services (I'm boycotting the $1.29 music files, by the way, and any PAID upgrade for iTunes - join me?), you'd think we'd get 1st rate service. I will give high marks to techs that deal with me via email, however, on various issues, but on this one, they claim it's not their area of concern (iTunes techs.). Good luck one and all.

  • Itune on iMac cannot connect to Airport Express, but Itune on XP can

    Hello
    I've the following situation:
Itune cannot see the Airport Express unless my Iphone Remote controle is connected to Itune. And eventhough, Itune fails to connect to it.
Here is the environment of my network
    1) third party LAN/Wireless router (connected to the internet)
    2) iMac (10.4.11) connected via the LAN port to the router
    3) Airport Express (7.3.2) connected to the wireless network
    4) one Iphone connected to the wireless network
    5) one XP computer connected to the wireless network
    6) All devices are in the same subnet
What really puzzle me is that Itune on the XP laptop can broadcast music to the Airport Express without any issue. But Itune on the Mac does not see at all the Airport Express unless I connect my Iphone to Itune. When I do so, the Airport Express become listed in the status bar of Itune. But if I try to make Itune connect to it, it try for a while then it stop trying without any error message.
I really don't understand what is going on. Does any body can give my a bit more information how Itune and Airport Express communicate? Or have any idea where I should direct my troubleshooting?
Thanks in advance for any help

So did i screw something up last night when i connected using my PC?
That sounds likely. Maybe the security type or password?
And if so how do i re-set the link with my mac??
Try the options described on pp. 30-33 of http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AirPort_Express_SetupGuide.pdf
Once you get things working again, suggest you save the settings in a profile. In future when you bring the PC home, create a different profile for experimentation. Switch back to the usual profile when you're done with the PC. Eventually, you should be able to develop one profile that works with both machines.

  • Can't get itunes to connect to airport express via air tunes

    Hi,
I just bought and installed an airport express (for windows 7) everything is now connected but i can't get itunes to recognize my airport express via air tunes. I can see the multiple speakers in itunes, but when i click on it to connect to airport it just comes up with connecting, loads for about a minute then minimizes without connecting.
Has anyone else experienced this? How can i get this to work?

You've probaby solved this by now, but if not... When upgrading itunes on a Vista or Windows 7 machine with Windows Firewall running for some reason Bonjour can't get through the firewall and thus Airplay does not work. Not good when all your Hi-fi's are connected via airport express!
I found to resolve the issue you have to install an older version of Bonjour. It won't work if you try to do this straight from Apple.  So try this...
    1. Firstly install and older version of itunes from the web (say version 10.1) Try www.oldapps.com
    2. Then find the Bonjour file in program files
    3. Cut and paste it to your desktop with its contents
    4. Uninstall itunes and Bonjour via your control panel (the desktop file of Bonjour you moved will still be there).
    5. Install your new version of itunes, say version 10.5, from the apple website.
    6. Before opening it go to program files and cut the (newly installed) Bonjour file and paste it somewhere different to the desktop (you can't just delete it). It does not matter where you won't be needing it.
    7. Now Cut and paste the old version of Bonjour you stuck on the desktop in Program files in place of the one you just moved.
    8. Hey presto, Airplay, Windows firewall and your Airport Express' should all get on again.
    Hope this works...

  • ITunes/Airport Utility Windows cannot connect to Airport Express

I really hope someone can help me with this since I have spent 2 days trying to get my new Airport Express to stream music with no luck yet.
I have a wireless network using Netgear WGR614 with WPA security settings. The AE has V6.3 firmware update and I used the Airport Admin 4.2 to set it up. I tried all the recommendations here and connected the AE to the router LAN port using ethernet cable and did a factory default reset. I then configured it to join my existing wireless network providing the WPA details.
That is when the problem starts. After successfully updating and rebooting the AE shows solid green LED. However, using Airport Admin to connect fails intermittently with error -6753 asking me to check my network settings even though they are fine. If I try a few more times, it connects and I am able to enter and modify settings. When doing another update, it again fails with error -6753, but a few retries later, it does go through. Note that all this time, the ethernet cable is still connected to the AE even though it is setup to connect to my wireless network.
Now, I unplug and relocate my AE near my stereo - it starts up fine and shows solid green light. My router "attached devices" page indicates that the device is connected with the DHCP ip address of 192.168.0.3. However, when I now try to use Airport Admin, it ALWAYS gives me the connection error -6753. The AE shows up in iTunes, but when I connect to it, it just hangs and after a minute or so, just gives up and goes back to the "Computer" speaker.
I tried to do a ping on the ip address, and it gives me "Request timed out". I thought maybe it is my laptop interfering so I did ensure that I turned off ALL firewalls, but the problem still remains.
So in short, AE seems to be joined and connected to my existing wireless network (green light), but neither Airport Admin nor iTunes nor ping utility can even communicate with it; and it seems to be due to the error -6753. I have tried pretty much every advise regarding connecting via wired etc. and nothing seems to work. This is not a wireless interference issue too, because the error also appears when connected via cable.
    Any help really appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Here is an update:
I tried to connect to the AE from another windows laptop...and it worked. So it seems that it is only my laptop that cannot connect to the AE. The only difference is that I used my laptop to initially connect to the network created by the AE, and after that I could never get it to connect.
Interestingly, when I did manage to get into the AE and check its log, here is what I find...

The administrative access denied is pointing to my laptop, whereas the connection accepted was the other laptop from which everything works. So it seems that the AE is specifically not allowing my laptop to talk to it! Given that my AE is being connected in Client mode, there are no settings I can access to see why it has singled my laptop out.
    Any help appreciated.

  • Brand New MacBook Pro Cannot Connect to Airport Express

    Hi all,
Been reading through these pages and I think there are many others with the same problem as me but with no real answer, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask anyway.
I have an Airport Express which I bought a couple of years ago. It initially worked fine on my old MacBook, I moved house and then it stopped working (flashing amber light syndrome). I got so fed up with it that it has been languishing in the loft ever since.
After a brief stint with a Windows laptop I decided it was time to return to Apple, and I haven't regretted it for a second.....until I got the Airport Express from the loft!
It simply, fundamentally and irrevocably...doesn't work! It's plugged in, amber light flashes but my nice new MacBook Pro just doesn't even recognise it exists. I have tried running the setup utility but at the first screen I am told that no unit is detected, I'm then told to check my Airport card (I assume it means the inbuilt modem which clearly works as I am writing to you guys now!). I can't even progress with the setup after this.
I have tried each of the Airport setup utilities to no avail (lap top cannot "see" AX).
Just as an update, I just connected my AX to my wireless router with an ethernet cable, a new network called 6ad16d appears to be available. Airtunes then works and I can connect to the internet (albeit slowly). I am not happy with this arrangement though as there is no padlock next to the new Apple network so I am worried that it isn't secure and surely I should be able to just plug my AX into the main and my hifi and it should work anyway?....just like it used to!
My apologies for the rambling post and please excuse my lack of computer knowledge. I really hope someone can help!

Fixed! You jut need a girlfriend with a lot of determination....not even sure she knows how she did it. Involved a lot of menus and a lot of swearing.
    Surely this should be easier?!

  • Cannot connect to AirPort Express after setting it up in AirPort Utility

I have two PCs: one has a Linksys WMP54G wireless card to connect to my AirPort Express which is connected to a wired Linksys ethernet router; the other has an ethernet card which is also connected to the Linksys router. My cable modem is plugged into the router in order to provide internet access to both PCs. I came home from work yesterday to discover that my wireless PC could not connect to my AX. I have had the AX for over a year and it has pretty much worked fine up until yesterday. And it has worked fine for the past couple months connecting to the cable modem via the Linksys router. Connecting to the internet on my wired PC is no problem at all.
First, I tried unplugging the cable modem and the AX, but no luck. After reading these discussions, I tried doing a hard reset on the AX and going through the AirPort Utility setup, but still no luck. I tried this several times, trying to configure it using both WEP and WPA. I think I originally had it set up as WEP, but when I reinstalled Windows at one point, I think I configured it as WPA (and it worked fine). I am not sure if this may be part of the problem When I reset the AX, it will eventually show up on the Windows Wireless Network list as an "Apple-09s8f23" unsecured network. Once I connect, I run the AirPort Utility (v5.3.2) and it detects it no problem. But after I go through the configuration process in the AP Utility, it gives me an error message: "AirPort Utility was unable to find your Apple wireless device after restarting...etc.". Meanwhile, the network still shows up in my Windows Wireless Network list, but cannot connect to it, and the light on the AX is still green. I have tried unplugging the ethernet cable to the AX, moving the AX to the same room as my wireless PC, and repeating the reset-configuration process, but still no luck, so I don't think it has anything to do with the Linksys router or the cable modem.
Sorry for the wordy post, but does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

So I went back to the PC after my original post, and somehow I was able to connect to the AirPort wireless network in the Windows Wireless Network List. Once I did this, it showed up in the AirPort Utility, and I was able to access the internet. I have no idea what fixed the problem, but maybe it was simply a matter of waiting a few minutes before connecting to the network?

  • ITunes not connecting to Airport Express

Trying to play music through remote speakers. Get an iTunes error message stating remote speakers can't be found. The airport express is set up properly, and worked great for months. Now its not letting me play any music. The express is recognized in the airport utility, and I am pretty sure its set up right. Running through a wireless system on the airport extreme. Any help would be appreciated.

Temporarily, plug a pair of headphones into the AirPort Express and listen to them to see if you can hear an audio signal. If you can, the AirPort Express is working fine and the problem is most likely in your connecting cable between the Express and your stereo.
If you hear no sound in the headphones, then you may have a problem with the AirPort Express or the connection between your wireless router and the AirPort Express. Position the Express close to the wireless router and use the headphones again to see if you pickup a signal at that location. If you do, then move the Express further away and test again, etc.

  • Network name comes up, but cannot connect to Airport Express

Recently it seems that every other day I cannot connect to my Airport Express.  The wireless network name always appears; however, when I try to connect to that network (I have it password protected), I get a "timed out" error.  I then have to unplug the Airport Express and plug it back in to reboot.  Connecting back to the network always works after that.
Is this an Airport Express issue or my home internet connection issue?

So did i screw something up last night when i connected using my PC?
That sounds likely. Maybe the security type or password?
And if so how do i re-set the link with my mac??

  • I cannot connect my airport express - help

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem I hope you can help me. Recently i bought a airport express in order to use as access point ( Extend an existing Wi-Fi network’s range )
but i cannot connect it. I chose the option "join to existing wireless network" but continues the orange flash light on the device.
    My modem is Motorola SVG-2501.
Please, how can i connect it.
    Thanks to everybody.

Unfortunately, Apple designed the "extend" function to only work with other Apple routers.
It would be extremely unlikely that the AirPort Express could "extend" the signal of the Motorola product that  you have, using wireless only.
The Express could be configured as a wireless access point if you connect an Ethernet cable from the Motorola product to the Express.

  • Cannot connect 2 Airport Express after replacing router

I recently had to replace my wireless router resulting in the need to update the configuration on my two airport expresses to join the new network.  They are both n and are running firmware version 7.6.1.  I use them only for airplay.  I am able to update the configuration on one, but when I connect to the second one via ethernet cable, the first disappears from the AirPort Utility and is undiscoverable.  Additionally, I have found that even when I get one configured, after about 15 minutes, it disappears as well and is undiscoverable.  Any assistance getting back up and running would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

So I went back to the PC after my original post, and somehow I was able to connect to the AirPort wireless network in the Windows Wireless Network List. Once I did this, it showed up in the AirPort Utility, and I was able to access the internet. • No matter what, cannot connect to Airport Express

    Hi,
Okay, I have tried everything in this forum that I could find. But still, I cannot connect to my Airport.
I have soft reset it, hard reset it; I have unplugged it and moved it to within inches of my iMac. The ethernet cable is connected, everything is on, etc.
Here's what happens: IF I have just reset the Airport, my imac can locate it. Then, I can edit the name, password, set up using the utility, following instructions found elsewhere in this forum(thanks). BUT when I click update, airport disappears and I'm told "there was an error...please be sure your device is...". And then I have to reset Airport again, and it it begins all over again.
If I have not just reset the Airport, the utility cannot find it at all.
Very frustrating. The kicker is, when I first plugged the thing it, I got internet access immediately, no problems....then I switched users to make sure my wife could also get access...and, well, there began my troubles.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

Update: following the suggestions from the forum, I did a "factory reset" (or double-secret reset) and...nothing, no change. The Utility was able to find the AE after the reset, but when it went to "write" the changes and update, it searched and searched, could not find it, and told "too bad, buddy."
So, seems likely that there is a hardware problem? It was an Apple-refurbished AE...
Any ideas would be very welcome - pretty tired of messing around with this, but not looking forward to arguing with customer service over the 10% restocking fee.
    Thanks

  • Cannot connect with Airport Express

My wife and I each have a MacBook Pro.  We are using a 2nd generation Airport Express with our cable modem.  Her MacBook connects using the Airport Express, but mine will not connect.  How can I change (or reset) my settings so that I can connect?

On your MacBook Pro do the following:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • Cannot connect my Airport Express

It used to work fine. I could stream my music to my stereo and enjoy. About a month ago, I lost the connection. I have been trying since then to get it to work like it use to. I don't seem to be doing it right!
I have a Dlink wireless router (DI-624) that is feeding one iMac through a ethernet cable and another one wirelessly. It should be feeding my AX also. For setting up procedures, I have plugged my AX at about 10 feet from the router. Nothing is plugged in it. Should there be speakers plugged in or something else or it does not matter?
I have tried connecting to my AX with airport utility. When it finally detects it, I go through the different steps and it seems to go well, but when doing the final update, it stops detectins my AX. This happened many time.
I tried to reset to factory settings by holding the reset button, but I am not sure if it resets or not.
I must be doing something wrong. Any ideas? How can I know if the AX is defective or not? How should I proceed to get my AX working like it was?

So you used to have the stereo plugged into the AX's audio jack and now you don't. Is this right?
Or, does your stereo have its own wireless network capability and you used to stream to it successfully but now it doesn't work? In this case, what purpose did the AX serve?

  • Connection to airport express fails after iTunes 10.1.1.4 upgrade !

    Hi,
Before ugrading iTunes to V10.1.1.4, everything was OK and I was listening music from itunes through airTunes with my airport express V 6.3.
Since I've upgraded iTunes, when à play a song, I've the error msg "cannot connect to [airport express name]. network connection failure"
It's the second time, I've connection problems to airport express after an iTunes upgrade !
First time was just after uorgrade from iTunes 9 to iTunes 10.
I had to wait for a new iTunes upgrade to fix up the problem (nearly 1 month !)
I'm a bit angry with iTunes and that kind of problems just before christmas !
    Thanks for your help !

Yes, there's an exception for Bonjour in the firewall (Bonjour is allowed)
I've try to re-add the "APAgent" which control Airports and restart the firewall but it didn't worked...
The only solution I've found was to desactivate Windows firewall...
(Firewall of my ADSL box is activated).
Maybe I should try to repair iTunes Installation like WPLU...

  • Connection to airport express dies out from iTunes after 1-3 hours

I have iTunes running in Windows XP. It is connected to zyxel WLAN AP through ethernet and Airport express is connected over wlan to this Zyxel. I have two problems where worse one is that after sometime 1-3 hours iTunes looses connection to airport express(remote speakers). Only way to return is to shut down power from AE. Then streaming can be started again. it seems that Internet connection is working all the time through zyxel, so this is not probably related to wlan itself
Other problem seems to be that Itunes can find AE only after reboot. I have opened firewall, so good ideas what is wrong in these two problems.
