'ITunes cannot connect to music store' fix.

If you have been getting the above error message recently then hopefully I have found the way to solve it. It is easy, just go to Internet Options, Advanced and scroll to the bottom and select Default. Apply and this should fix it. It worked for me so I hope this helps. I am no expert I was desperate and tried everything.

Thank you so much John! I've been struggling for 5 days with this new version and this seems to have fixed my issues even after I have tried all of the "other" recommendations that have been posted including completely uninstalling my virus protection which I don't recommend and it did not work. I'm surprised something so simple worked!
Since your so brillant- perhaps I can ask a stupid question that you can answer- my library does not seem to want to auto populate either one of my IPODs since this all happened, I've tried to click manual and automatic downloads from playlists, and yet the only items that will download are items copied via cd, podcasts and recently (as in 5 minutes ago songs.

  • Error message: iTunes cannot connect to music store....

I have been trying everything for the past day and a half and I still can't get my music store to work?? Everytime I open it I get an error message saying:
Make sure your network connection is active and try again
    Can someone please help me?

The same thing happened to me so I sent an email to apple. Honestly, I can't make any sense out of it but maybe you can. This is what they sent to me:
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble connecting to the iTunes
    Store.
I have verified that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting
connections, which indicates that the issue is related to your internet
connection, local network, or your local computer itself.
iTunes has a great new feature called Network Diagnostics that can help
you diagnose and resolve issues that prevent you from connecting to the
    iTunes Store.
First, make sure you're using iTunes 7.0 or later, which is available
free of charge at the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
Now follow these steps to use Network Diagnostics:
    1) Make sure that you have an active Internet connection.
    2) Open iTunes.
    3) Choose Diagnostics from the Help Menu.
    4) Select Network Diagnostics and click Run.
The Network Diagnostics interface will help you identify and resolve
any network issues that are affecting your ability to connect to the
    iTunes Store.

examples of these types of software:
    * Virus and/or worm protection software

If you have any of this software, and if you cannot access the iTunes
Store, you will need to configure these applications to allow iTunes to
    connect to the internet.
Please refer to the documentation that came with that software, and if
necessary contact the software's manufacturer. You'll need to configure

  • Cannot Connect to Music Store Unknown Error -3221

Please help me. I subscribed to ITunes specifically because I pre-ordered the Depeche Mode CD. And now that I am trying to download/upload(?) through the advanced / pre-orders I keep getting an error message stating "Cannot connect to music store. An unkown error occurred -3221. Make sure you rnetwork connection is active and try again."
I have been reading the fixes online and tried the overnight test. I tried adding the site to my pop-up blocker... NOW WHAT? I cannot access the music store at all (for the past 3 days that I have been trying). I pretty much just want a refund for my CD that I cannot download. BTW - in between my purchase and my attempts to access the music store I was forced to "upgrade to 6"... so is that where the problem lies? I also called the support phone number on the "contact us" link and no one on the telephone can help. I AM SO FRUSTRATED! Please make this better! I am on Windows XP.

    hi Cheryl!
"Cannot connect to music store. An unkown error occurred -3221. Make sure you rnetwork connection is active and try again."
haven't seen that error code for a while. but we've got some documentation on it. have you seen this yet?

  • Cannot connect to Music Store

I know that several other users have posted that since the making the newest upgrade for iTunes, they cannot access the music store. But I haven't seen any posts with my exact issue. When I have tried to purchase a song, a pop-up box materializes that says "Accessing Music Store." After a short time, a message pops up to replace it that says "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. An unknown error occurred (-9808). Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
Now, I have tried all of the solutions I have seen on other postings, to no avail. We have McAfee Virus, but I'm unsure how to go about checking to see if that is my problem. I have disabled it several times, during iTunes re-installation and when trying to connect to the Music Store, but it doesn't help. I've checked the Windows Firewall, and iTunes is listed as one of my exceptions, so that shouldn't be the issue. As far as I know, we do not have Norton Anti-Virus (or at least I can't find it anywhere on this computer).
I am frustrated and at wit's end. I want to be able to download songs again!!! Can someone help?!
    Thanks.

Doesn't anyone have any suggestions?! I've been checking this daily to see if someone could help me. This is very frustrating. I actually read another posting concerning the same problem that said the solution was just to use another computer that doesn't have McAfee Virus protection on it. Hello! That's not possible. This is my computer, and it worked before the update, and now it's not working. Using another computer is not a solution! HELP!!!!!!

  • HELP NEEDED.  Cannot connect to Music Store.

After upgrading to iTunes 6 I have been unable to connect to the Music Store or download any tracks. Its not my Norton Internet Security and my Windows Firewall is off. In fact, nothing has changed on my PC apart from upgrading iTunes, at which point everything went wrong!!
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing numerous times, restoring my PC to an earlier time when all was well and I've also tried installing standalone Quicktime from the Apple website, but every time I get an error message saying that some of the files are corrupt and to install it again, which I do, then I get the same message.
In desperation I managed to re-install my previous version of iTunes 5 (with which I had absolutely no problems at all) but unfortunately I still can't connect to the Music Store or download any tracks, so basically there is no point in me using the iPod or iTunes at all.
If anyone knows how I can solve this problem I'd be really grateful for some input.
    Thanks.

I'm getting the same error message when i connect my linksys router. With the router connected I can get on the internet just fine. Thw problem is that music store in iTunes is refused. I can access the music store if i connect the modem directly to my PC. This leads me to believe the internal firewall in the router needs to be configured to allow iTunes to connect to the music store. If any one knows how to do this that would be great. I think it would also help a lot of other people having this as well   Windows XP   </span<br>

  • ITunes cannot connect to the store, connection was refused

I have used iTunes and the same iPod successfully for 2 years. A few days ago, I attempted to purchase a song in the iTunes store and it said I had to upgrade to iTunes 7.5 first. I did that and my library and songlists are fine but it says I can't connect to the iTunes Music Store; Network Connection refused. I have not changed any firewall settings. I've searched the internet and can't find any solutions. HELP! I am on Windows XP, I have checked Proxy settings, Windows firewall, I can connect to any other website. Any suggestions?

i have the exact same problem.
i have contacted the support staff and they didnt help.
on mine, the problem was that itunes had changed the network device when downloading the new itunes.
---this can be seen by running diagnostics (itunes>help>run diagnostics), then comparing the network device found to your usual one (start>connect to> show all connections--- see the difference?)-----
i tried to disable the unused network device (aka connection) make sure that the one you want is defalt, then reinstall itunes.
---disabling the unused network device is tricky, you have to go on Properties and click about.---
although the connection for me is now correct, it is still not connecting.
none of the dns flushing and firewall allowances work.
this i think is a new problem that apple is not picked up on, people need to email the support team and ring up.
hope it sort of helped, but its still not working!

  • ITunes cannot connect to the store, nor can I activate my Touch.

My iTunes hasn't been able to connect to the store EVER on this machine. Naturally, without a functioning iPod or iPhone, this hasn't bothered me. Of course, now that I've got a touch, it's a little annoying.
I can't activate my touch, and I can't get at my purchases.
Here is the log from the diagnostic. I have tried flushing the DNS cache, I do not run a firewall, I have reinstalled iTunes (wiping it's registry details as I went), I have activated port forwarding on my router to some port I saw suggested. Please help!

SO we rule out Winsock provider issue.
Can you try these entries in command prompt (Run as Administrator for Win7/Vista) one at a time?
    ipconfig /release
    then
    ipconfig /renew
    restart computer
    ipconfig /flushdns
totally shut down computer then restart.
    netsh winsock reset all
    restart computer
Now test your iTunes again. If that does not work, uninstall your Antivirus program and test again.

  • Itunes cannot connect to the store today

I have not been able to connect to the itunes store through my itunes.  I just downloaded the latest and asked it to fix any files, etc.  Still, it won't open the store through itunes.  I have done nothing to the program itself.  Last week, though, we tried to connect 2 ipod touches.  Though both could be synced, it took forever and seemed quite temperamental.  However, neither could be backed up to the computer, whatever that means.

Try performing a soft reset on your device:
Hold the home and power/sleep buttons together. You may see 'slide to power off'. Keep holding until an Apple logo appears. When you see the Apple logo, let go straight away.

    Try deleting the prefs files.
Have you tried manually downloading iTunes and installing it cleanly? Perhaps delete iTunes and all prefs, install and import music. It's a hassle, I know, but it may be an issue with corruption of a key file.
From using IT7 it certainly seems to be a huge overhaul: much more functionality, more interactivity. There's bound to be problems for some. Also, make sure there's lots of HDD space--OSX is a og when it comes to HDD issues and a couple of GB is a minimum requirement!

  • Cannot connect to music store. The network connection was reset.

ran diagnostic. Tried everything. Please help.

I had a similar problem. I can't access iTunes, but my co-worker (using the same network) can. Moving my preferences out of ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes* and attempting to set up the account again doesn't help. The Keychain tool says nothing is wrong. It turned out I had two problems:
    - I had a proxy setting to use a "proxy.pac" file. It turned out this proxy.pac file basically had "Go Direct" in it. Safari, etc, handled this correctly, and iTunes used to, but it stopped working in a recent upgrade (I think around MacOSX 10.5.3.)
    - Turn IPv6 support off from the "Advanced" setting in the Network panel of System Preferences.
It tried with both of these individually and it didn't help, I had to do both to make iTunes work again.
The reference to the proxy.pac file I'd had there for a year and a half. We do have functioning IPv6 in the office, and our ISP has other IPv6 customers, but external IPv6 connectivity is a bit spotty to say the least. I suspect the problem only applies to those who have local but not global IPv6 connectivity.
One wonders if the person who said it occurred after a network upgrade, was due to their ISP now supported IPv6 and triggering this problem?
