ITunes cannot connect to update server.

So I am finally going to update my Touch to 3.0 (from 2.2.1). I connected it to my PC and opened iTunes. However, when I click "Update" it instantly says it can't connect to the update server because I have no internet connection. But as you can see, I do.
I vaguely remember this happening once before, and it had something to do with a setting in Internet Explorer (or Internet Options in Control Panel). I have done a couple of Google searches, but I cannot find where it says to change the setting. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
I did do a search on Apple's website about this, and they said to check the Automaticly Detect Settings under LAN settings... I did that, but it didn't help.

Ok, I am not too sure how I fixed it, but I am currently downloading the 3.0 software. The ONLY change I made was on my Touch's Sync window, I went to the Applications tab and checked "Sync Applications" (because I wasn't able to sync apps from itunes to my touch). So after I synced the apps I kept looking around the net for a place to download it outside of iTunes. I followed a link on Apple's site, and, as usual, it opened iTunes... but this time IT WORKED!

  • Cannot connect to update server

    Hello
Since quite some time now, I am getting an error message 'Cannot connect to update server' and therefore not able to update iOS to latest version.

  • Imac g5 "cannot connect to update server"

I have an old imac G5 that was given to me and I am trying to get it up and running for students to use, since we are really short on technologyat our broke a$$ school.  The problem is that ther person that gave it to me wiped it almost clean (including the microsoft office).  I got a copy of office 2004 and loaded it and it seems to be working.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get any updates and the internet keeps encountering a problem and closing unexpectedly.  Everytime I try to check for updates by going through system preferences or by clicking on the apple and going to "Software Updates"  it tells me that it encountered an error or that "cannot connect to update server.  When i look at installed updates, it only shows two dates when updates were downloaded (Feb 20, 2012 and August 4, 2011). That doesnt seem right.  I have already spent hours that I dont have trying to figure this out.  Can anyone help me?

If you are running 10.3.x the last free update available for it was made on February 2008:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4218
10.4 and 10.5 can be installed on most iMac G5s, provided you are prepared as these tips suggest: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2541 - for 10.4
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2275 - for 10.5
Note if you update past 10.4.11 (10.4.0 through 10.4.10 are older) the partition that is updated will not be able to use Classic.
Note, you will not be able to update your machine past 10.5.8.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Can't finish upgrade on atv, when verifying with iTunes says cannot connect to update server.  Help!

When upgrading my atv I can't seem to connect to the apple update server. Wondering if I. Need to change my host file and if so how do I do that?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

  • Cannot connect to update server for IOS 5.1

I keep getting cannot conect to updade server when trying to upgrade my  iPad, my iPhone and my Apple TV.  Have switched all devices off and on.  Rebooted my router but still no luck.  Had this problem for 3 days now. Anyone any ideas please.

This has solved loads of people who have this issue and have used an alternate DNS setting.  Below are instructions for both iPhone OTA and on you Mac
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
    Change DNS Servers
    Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
    On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
    You can use OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    or
You can Google Public DNS if you want
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
I have chaged my DNS settings on my router so now all my network devices use OpenDNS as their DNS.

  • ITunes cannot restore, software update server can't be contacted

    Hello,
I received a 2008 iPod Classic hand-me-down from a friend, and wanted to format it and start using it.  I formatted the drive in windows, and now when I start iTunes (using version 10.6.3.25), I get the following message "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted.  You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.  You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."  When I try to restore, it holds on "contacting the iPod software update server," and then tells me that the iPod software update server could not be contacted.
I have looked around for solutions, and tried quite a few of them.  I unchecked the boxes in internet options (automatically detect settings), deleted the itunespref xml file, used hostsxpert to reset the hosts file, and so on.  I still have the same problem.
So here I am, posting on the forum asking for someone's expert help.  Here is the little log that iTunes spits out for me:

Ok, I've got it all figured out, and wanted to leave a note here for posterity.  Here's what I did.
After reading all of planb77's excellent suggestions and going through the links he sent, I decided to look at other aspects of iTunes and see if the problem was not limited to restoring my iPod.  When I found that my iTunes store didn't work, I checked the forum for those issues, and found that AT&T Communication Manager was a common culprit in working with iTunes.
After 70 minutes on hold and a fruitless hour on the phone with AT&T trying to uninstall bytemobile optimization client, I left the AT&T guy insisting that it was not AT&T's problem, but rather Apple's.
I then looked further into bytemobile and iTunes, and found an elegantly simple solution, written in all caps: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3888541?start=0&tstart=0.  You'll see it there.  To spare you the link change, the advice was to uninstall iTunes 10 and everything else apple-related, download and install iTunes 9.2, find and delete the latest "itunes library.itl", and run your new iTunes.  It solved my problem of restoring my iPod, and, incidentally, allowed me to access iTunes store.  So there you have it.  Problem solved.
planb77, thanks again for your persistence.  While you didn't solve my problem, you eliminated many of the other possiblities, and led me to some other links.

Right, I'm going to try something, if this works, then this'll probably fix a lot of iTunes problems.
1: Make sure your whole iTunes database is backed up.
2: Uninstall iTunes, then run "Revo Uninstaller", this will remove ALL traces of iTunes from you computer, not your library.
I've found out that when un-installing or re-installing over a previous version of iTunes will carry over some problems from previous versions, or even create problems. Registry leftovers can be a problem also. Completely removing iTunes using "Revo Uninstaller" then re-installing will have the same effect as installing iTunes from a fresh OS install. Typically iTunes should be problem free when installed totally fresh.
3: Re-install the correct version of iTunes fresh and try again.

I haven't updated yet. Apple's download servers have been too busy. Did you know you can update via wifi instead of connection to your computer?
