Itunes cannot start

Anyone have any info on why itunes cannot start? When I attempt to start itunes I get an error message asking if I want to send an error log to Microsoft about the problem. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

I have that exact problem. I run windows XP and it doesn't want to load. This is weird because i have been able to load it before. If we could get some tech support here, that would be great, because i need to update my iPod.

My daughters ipod touch is having an issue. It won't let us activate it. We have had it since last christmas and it is just now having this problem. It says that it has the current ios, but when you power it on it says to activate the ipod. Which it won't let us do wirelessly or hardwired to the itunes. Not sure what is going on, cannot back it up, or even restore from a backup. When I try it says itunes cannot start a session with the ipod: a session couldn't be started?

It's probably because you were on the iOS 6 beta, which just expired. You'll need to get the final 6.0 release from the developer iOS portal here and install it manually.

• Itunes cannot start up

In the middle a software update, I powered off the MacBookPro. Then, itunes, safari, and several other programs cannot start up from dock or Applications window. I checked the HD using Disk Utility, and no problem is found. I really appreciate if someone can give me some tips of what is going on.

Oh yeah. Archive and install keeps all your data. You'll just get a fresh new OS. You probably need to update it after the install since its probably an old version on your Tiger DVD. Also, after you're done and see that everything is working, open a Finder window. Click on Macintosh HD. There's a folder that says previous users. That's the old OS and you don't need that anymore because you just install a fresh copy. That folder is about 10 GB and you should delete it to give yourself more space.

• Itunes cannot start - unknown error 200.

I've installed the latest update to itunes and now it won't start. each time i click on itunes i get an error.
The iTunes application cannot be opened. An unknown error occurred (-200).
I've tired to remove the plist file and see if it starts then, but after asking to accept the terms and conditions the same message came up.
What should I try next?
Thanks,

Turns out a good old restart fixed it

I update this morning at work, on VISTA with iphone 4. Same thing, i restart, it tells me Itunes cannot start as files are missing.
I seached EVERYWHERE, with lots of stupid long winded possible solutions.
THIS WORKS, and its ONE SIMPLE CLICK... WHY DO APPLE NOT HAVE THIS LISTED ON THE FRONT OF SOLUTIONS
THanks to those who actually know what to do above.

I am trying to install the newest version of Itunes and each time I repeatedly get the message "Program cannot start MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer Try reinstalling to fix this problem". I have tried reinstalling several times and I get the same message . Any ideas? I am most appreciative. I am using Windows 7.

Hi 49balf,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I recommend removing and reinstalling iTunes using these steps:
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

• Itunes 11 will not install on my Windows 7 computer because it cannot start the 'Apple Mobile Device' service, what can I do?

itunes 11 will not install on my Windows 7 computer because it cannot start the 'Apple Mobile Device' service, what can I do?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

• Cannot get iTunes to start, no matter what fixes I try

Hi all!
I was running iTunes 12 on Windows 64x computer. My iTunes started crashing a few days ago and now won't open AT ALL. Not in Safe Mode or anything. Won't create a new library either. I get no error message either.
Please don't tell me to uninstall/reinstall iTunes or Quicktime, I have scoured the internet and Apple support community forums and I've just about tried every single fix I could possibly find.
This is the first thing I tried: http://support.apple.com/en-za/HT1923
so please don't suggest that one again. I've even tried unistalling quicktime and also reinstalling the latest version. I have downgraded my iTunes to a previous version. I have tried using an older library file. I have tried the msconfig fix. I have tried the sfc /scannow in command prompt too. It won't even open in safe mode. It won't let me create a new library. NOTHING.
Some of the articles I read:
Sometimes (usually late at night when I need to get to bed) itunes will not respond once it opens on my windows laptop. Get twirly spin and if that ever stops, itunes freezes and I cannot do anything with it.

iTunes for Windows doesn't open after upgrading in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
Issues installing iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
itunes will not open --windows 7 64bit
And NONE of those solutions have worked!!!!
I thought it might be a problem with IOBit software which I installed recently, so I uninstalled that, but it didn't make any difference.
I have enabled iTunes and Bonjour on the Firewall too like it says here: How to enable iTunes in Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 firewall - Apple Support
I have even looked at msvcr80.dll and QTMovieWin.dll. I must say, copying QTMovieWin.dll has kept iTunes running longer in Task manager than anything else, a whole 45 sec. But it still didn't open!!
Please if anyone has help it would be appreciated!!
Thanks a lot!

Actually my iTunes just started!!!!
So if anyone else is having this problem, the last thing I tried was copying the QTMovieWin.dll from my C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder to my C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes folder and started my iTunes Helper.exe
Hope that can help someone!

Started having trouble with iTunes so I uninstalled everything and tried to reinstall but it says ' iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes.' Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times. Now what?

I figured it out. A week ago I had downloaded a screensaver from a website I trusted and that's when my problems started. I uninstalled it but that didn't help. So, I reinstalled it then used an uninstall softtware app that cleanns more than the control panel does. Then I used a computer cleaner to be sure everything was wiped clean. And it worked. I downloded iTunes for the 7th time in 2 days and finally it worked! And I lost nothing from my account.
Maybe this info will help others.

• Cannot start or uninstall iTunes

Last night my power went off and caused me to have to do a system recovery on one of the users of my computer. While I was trying to figure out why the user's desktop was messed up I tried running Itunes. It said there was a new update so I went ahead and updated it. I then went through the recovery process and now I cannot start or uninstall Itunes. When I try to start it says there has been an error and asks me if I want to report it, I have answered yes and no and I also slected the debug option and that had no effect. When I try to uninstall it says it is starting the uninstallation wizard, but it never finishes. I seem to be stuck!

I have the same problem, did you find a solution?

• I connected my iphone 3g to itunes which was in 4.1 firmware and itunes ask for an update which i downloaded an updated the phone to version 6.1.3 but my phone cannot start it shows no service my sim card is not getting network and i cannot use the phone.

i connected my iphone 3g to itunes which was in 4.1 firmware and itunes ask for an update which i downloaded an updated the phone to version 6.1.3 but my phone cannot start it shows no service my sim card is not getting network and i cannot use the phone. what should i do.?

First, you do not have a 3G if you could upgrade it to 6.1.3, because 4.2.1 is the last version that will work on the 3G. So you either have a 3GS or you somehow hacked the phone to install an incompatible version. You can check the model you have by entering your serial number here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
Assuming you have a 3GS the most likely reason for your problem is you have a gray market phone that was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it. When you upgraded it you removed the hack, so the phone is now locked to its original carrier.

• I cannot download itunes- it says service mobile device cannot start- what do I do?

I am unable to download the newest version of iTunes. I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall. Now it says that my Mobile Device cannot start- check to see if I have sufficent privlidges to access. What do I do? I cannot get itues to work on any of my computers.

I've run into several machines lately having this issue and the
"Runtime error Program: C:\Program Files\itunes\itunes.exe R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the applications support team for more information"
error. Pretty much the troubleshooting steps everyone gives are correct, but I think they're missing some details.
Also these steps fix the apple mobile device service not starting during the itunes install.
From my recent experience do the following to resolve the issues.
1. Uninstall Itunes, Apple Mobil support, Bonjour, Apple Software updater.
2. In c:\program files and c:\program files(x86) make sure that all apple, itunes, and ipod related directories are deleted.
3. In c:\program files\common files and c:\program files(x86)\common files make sure all apple directories are gone.
Restart the computer and reinstall itunes.
Good luck!

• A reinstall of itunes is saying apple mobile device cannot start

I tried to update itunes on my PC and it stopped installing, giving me a message of "mobile device" cannot start, check to see if you have sufficient privaledges"

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

if you want to downgrade to iTunes 7.1.1 then follow this link
http://www.oldapps.com/download.php?oldappsid=iTunesSetup7.1.1.exe
then upgrade when apple comes out with a more stable upgrade.
