ITunes cannot upgrade iphone software.

Whenever I try and do an upgrade to my iPhone, iTunes seems to always get almost to the end of the update and then freezes. This has happened with version 10 and previous versions as well.
I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
Do I need to re-install itunes? If so how?

It depends on which iMac you have. If it is a PPC (G4 or G5) iMac you cannpt upgrade beyond Leopard 10.5.8, and you cannot synch with an iPhone 5.
If it an Intel iMac you need to first purchase Snow Leopard 10.6 and update iTunes:

Upgrading iPhone software 3.0 through iTunes but won't update

I've been trying to update my iPhone software to 3.0 through iTunes on my home PC, but it keeps giving me an error message saying that the "software update server cannot be contacted. Check internet connection or try again later." My internet connect is active/fine, have already downloaded the latest version of iTunes (8.2), so what's wrong???

I think I've figured this out.
Using another PC on a different network, which doesn't have a restrictive firewall, and the synch to Gmail contacts worked...
I didn't think it was a firewall problem, because in the original attempt, I even used Wireshark to sniff the network traffic for the synchronization traffic. I only saw http traffic to the google servers, and that's not restricted...so I must have missed something in the network trace, but my guess is that the firewall (a cisco 5500 series) was blocking the authentication traffic. Perhaps it uses imap or some other protocol besides http or https, which would have been allowed.
I also log all dropped traffic in a syslog, and didn't see any entries corresponding to the synch, but again, I may have missed something.
So, at any rate, it is now working and I'm pretty certain it was the cisco firewall policy that was the problem.

Today I bought a new iPad. iTunes wanted to actualise the software on it. After the step "control the installation" I got a message in the sense "... iTunes connot renew the software, (6). undefined error. Same problem with my iPhone. I don't want to erease once more all my data on iPad and iPhone.

Hi, I am using Windows 8 and iPhone 4S. Recently both Windows and iTunes cannot detect my iPhone. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest iTunes and related software, but no use. HELP! iTunes Cannot Detect iPhone~

i am using Windows Vista with my 1.1.2 iPhone & iTunes 7.5
iTunes cannot detect my iPhone when i plug it via the USB cable to my computer, while Vista can detect it and i can access the photos inside iPhone with the link my computer\Apple iPhone\Internal Storage\DCIM\100APPLE.
the interesting fact is that when i turn off the "program control" (a function in my firewall, ZoneAlarm). iTunes can then detect the iPhone can they can sync(ringtones, music, contacts successfully get into iphone)!
if i switch on the "prgram control" in zonealarm after they sync, disconnect iphone and reconnect it, an error message will be shown, something like "iTunes cannot connect to iPhone [^2], unknown error (0xE8000001)"

Obviously it's an issue with ZoneAlarm. Why not contact their support or post on their forums? May be a common problem. Or maybe look for a different firewall/security software.

My Wi-Fi connection failed while I was updating to IOS6.1... I can't use my phone and itunes indicate "the iphone software update server could not be contacted"... HELP!

Can/Should I upgrade iPhone software?

My iPhone is 3GS. I have software version 3.1 (don't think I've ever updated it!). I've noticed more and more apps are unavailable as I don't have current enough software but I'm worried if I update to the latest version I'll have problems with the battery etc. We currently have iTunes version 10.0.1.22 - do I need to upgrade iTunes also? I don't have a good track record with updating iTunes as it always seems to mess up the computer - it seems ok if you're starting from fresh with a new computer but updating an existing version of iTunes always seems a nightmare. Should I update the iPhone software or just accept that I'll have less and less access to apps? Thx.

It is ultimately your decision whether to upgrade or not.
That being said, there are a multitude of security enhancements, bug fixes, and performance enhancements that have been incorporated into iOS over the last two years.
Why are you concerned about the battery? Because a handful of users have reported battery issues after upgrading? If you look through the forums, you will see the same issues reported after EVERY iOS upgrade dating back to version 1.0.
Your version of iTunes is current, so there is no need to update that.
Just make sure you have a good backup prior to starting the update, this is the first step in the process, but always better to be safe than sorry.

Cannot update iPhone software to 4.3.1

I am having difficulty trying to update my iPhone software. I plugged the phone into my computer (MacBook Pro), and was prompted to update to 4.3.1, so I clicked yes. I then received this warning: "There are purchased items on the iPhone “iPhone” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue?"
The options are to cancel or continue, so I first tried cancel. The only purchased items on my phone are apps; I do not keep music or movies on it. However, I cannot figure out how to transfer these apps to the computer. When I click 'sync' on the apps page, it warns me that it will sync from the computer, not the phone, thus erasing my apps. I cannot figure out how to reverse this.
So, the second time I clicked 'continue' anyway. This was last night. At the top of the screen it said "Backing up iPhone," even though all I wanted to do was update my software, not necessarily back it up. It seemed to be taking a long time, so I let it do it's thing and left it overnight. The next day, 14 hours later, it was only about 3/4 backed up. Eventually I had to unplug it to take it to work. And just to be clear, I have a 16-gig phone with less than 2 gigs worth of stuff on it.

Invalid signature on iTunes update and iPhone software update

I have a problem, which has stopped me from updating to the latest version of iTunes and the latest iPhone software. This has caused my iPhone to crash during updating and now needs to be restored, but cant as I cant update to the latest version of the software!
The long story is that for the past few weeks I've been having problems downloading new music, or films from the iTunes store, sometimes saying the file is corrupt, and basically being very hit and miss.
When my phone tried to update to the latest software this weekend, it crashed during the install and now needs to be restored.
I called Apple and they suggested deleting itunes and starting again. They also suggested trying this with my antivirus turned off!
As I recently bought Windows 7 Home Ultimate, I decided to try and start from scratch and removed iTunes, Quicktime, my antivirus (Virgin Media's own) and install Windows.
This worked fine, but now I cant install iTunes at all, I have the setup file downloaded and click on it and nothing at all happens. I've tried running it in different compatibility modes, and still nothing.
I now cant download the antivirus software either as it states there is an error.
There seems to be something stopping me from downloading, saying signitures are invalid, there are errors, or files are corrupt.
My internet connection still works, although I'm worried about using it as I have no Firewall, antivirus etc.
Sorry for the rambling post, but I wanted to give as much info as possible..

Yeah, this problem continues to exist and no one ever has the answers to this problem. I've monitored this problem for over a year and yet Apple and Microsoft has again and always dropped the ball. I've read and tried all the articles people direct you to to help resolve this, and nothing. I am so sick of almost having to get get a degree in Computers to fix these problems that shouldn't exist. I think this may actually be me last IPOD I ever purchase if I am going to have these issues all the time. Sorry this is happening to you dude, but it doesn't surprise me one bit.
