Itunes causing CPU performance to get to 100 percent

Hello,
Lately itunes causes my CPU performance to oscillate between 10 and 100 percent, which causes my computer to stall out every few seconds. Here is a picture of what my cpu performancee looks like:
This only begins to happen as soon as I start playing a song. If itunes is sitting idly, the computer runs fine.
I used to have other programs open with itunes such as iconcertcal and isproggler, but i have made sure to uninstall such programs. I have tried uninstalling itunes and quicktime several times. This doesnt fix the problem.
Sometimes when I exit out of itunes it tells me that another program is using the itunes interface. I dont know how to tell what program that is. Originally i thought the problem happened because my scrobbling agent was connecting to a server to report the songs I played (i use it for a site called last.fm), but as i said, the problem is continuing even after I uninstalled these programs.
If anyone could help me through this issue, I'd appreciate it. I love itunes and I wouldnt want to have to switch to another music client.

I think i may have fixed this problem. It had to do with foxytunes, an itunes plugin for Itunes.

• ITunes causing CPU spikes

Ever since I upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes, my laptop has gone extremely slow when iTunes is running (i'm now using winamp). The CPU usage spikes from 80% up to 95-100%.
My music is stored on an external hard drive, the laptop is an Inspiron 9100 (Pentium 4, 3.20GHz, 1024MB RAM) and had no problems whatsoever before upgrading.
I did a complete wipe of my laptop a couple of days ago and all other applications are running much faster, but i've downloaded iTunes again and the same problem occurs. I've also tried downgrading the version to see if that helps but it doesn't.
Anyone suggest anything or experience similar?

I have to agree that there is some major problem with iTunes - I'm totally unimpressed having never used it before and just having bought my first ipod.
Windows XP SP2, 1.6 Ghz, 2Gb RAM
Insert any music CD and RIP via iTunes = 100% CPU utilization
Insert any music CD and RIP via Windows Media Player = 40% CPU utilization
So I need a dedicated machine to support the ripping of my music? What a joke.

• Last 3 times I downloaded iTunes my Windows XP system locked up. CPU usage stays pegged at 100 percent. I can only seem to fix it by restoring to an earlier set point while in safe mode and then uninstalling I tunes. Any thoughts.

It seems like I can't load ITunes onto this machine anymore, although I did successfully use earlier versions

Just in case, let's check to see if we've got a LSP issue here:

• CPU doesn't get to 100%

I'm running a stats calculation that takes about 20 minutes to process, and happened to look at the activity monitor while it was running.
I had thought that the CPU usage would be up near 100%, but the activity moniter reports 50%-40% in the idle category under the CPU tab. Anyone know why this might be? Can (or should) anything be done?
As far as I can tell from the activity monitor, the RAM is not maxed out. The stats program is R.

Hmmm, I can explain the unbalanced processor usage through your stats application not being correctly, if at all, multithreaded to make use of both of your cores fully.
Why your application is not making full use of at least one of the cores though I would have no idea. Whaty I would suggest you do though is to check the developer's web site/support pages for possible answers. You can also write/call them and directly ask.

Starting about 4 months ago when nothing had happened in a long time build wise to my computer I began having this issue. The issue being whenever I sync my Iphone 4 to my desktop it will stop mid sync. The iphone 4 will pull itself out of sync mode thus freezing the itunes process. At which time all FOUR cores on my cpu will jump up to 100 percent load and if left unchecked would fry my CPU.
Now I recently just got around to updating to 4.1 and created a backup. Attempted and then ran into this gem of a problem isn't that just ffreaking amazing. Anyways I am now sync'd to my laptop (same OS just a dell xps studio) and everything went dandy except for the fact I lost my backup of my phone (for some reason it won't let me migrate it over to a 4GB thumbdrive out of the appdata folder).
Does ANYONE know what's going on here and does anyone have a solution. I called Apple and unfortunately they had never heard of the problem.

Figured as much. I work at AT&T and sell this stuff all day every day. Love the iphone. Loved itunes versions 8 and under. Versions 9 and up have been absolute **** optmized for Pc's. I.e. the horizontal scrolls in the itunes store section are flawless on a Mac (with lesser hardware) and extremely choppy on in PC i've gotten my hands on. Alas I wish there was some continuity between the builds. There i fear will always be a gap. Oh yeah and itunes blows on my desktop. Peace!

• Why My Cpu is getting at 100% when I open ITunes? (Memory problem)

Good day everyone,
Why is my CPU getting at 100% eating over 700 000k of ram as soon as I open Itunes?
Even if I'm closing the process it reopens automaticly and take all the memory...I am under Windows Vista (Family ed.) and I have the latest version of ITunes...
Thank you for your help!
Regards,
Dominique

It worked for me, for iTunes Store and Safari both!

Once it opens, type in the following command...
netsh winsock reset
hit enter
You should get a message that the winsock reset successful and you will need to reboot your computer.
Reboot and when I reloaded itunes the store loaded fine.

• How to get the highest CPU performance in Maverick

I am currently doing many analyses in parallel using 10.9.2 on a 2013 MPB and came accross a problem that costs me a lot of time. I started another discussion yesterday, there it was not sure whether it is a software problem or operating system problem. Here I present my experience that makes me sure that it is an operating system related problem. Let me note also that otherwise I am very happy about 10.9's performance.
I noticed that Maverick is controlling the priority of the processes running my analyses, these processes being slowed down it costs me considerable amount of time. I would like to know how to boost the CPU performance of my computer and finish these analyses as soon as possible.
In a normal situation these process takes up about 90-100% of the CPU load, fans are turning full speed and this is good. I noticed the problem, when I log in as another user without logging out from the account where the analyses are running, leaving the processes on the background, and then coming back to the analysis account, I notice that the processes are slowed down. If I had 5 analysis procecesses, only 1 of them is working full speed. And the remaining 4 never come back to full speed as they were before I logged out.
Maverick has complex complex mechanisms wrt power management and efficiency, and I am doubting that it changes the priority of these processes considering a normal user profile. However my aim is to get most of my computer
My question is how could I boost the performance of this computer without letting the operating system slowing down processes that are not supposed to be slowed down....

I completely agree with your explanations. And previously I used different versions of Unix operating systems.
Here on maverick, I tried "renice", using first 0 and then -20 as the priority number, but it had no impact!
The exact command I used is the follwoing
sudo renice -20 -p 8149
where 8149 is the process id. This had absolutely no effect at all...
I also tried to slow down the single analysis process which is somehow running at full speed, this didn't work neither.
What is puzlling me right now, I cannot get back my analysis processes to a higher priority even after coming back to the account where these analyses are running... Basically there is nothing else running behind... The other account is loged out... Before I switched accounts these processes were running at full speed and the fans were noisy. Right now, it is all silent and of course the only alternative I have is to restart the analyses from scratch again, hoping that Mavericks will give them full power next time.

• Install itunes - cpu goes to 100 percent and stalls.  Uninstalled, tried fixes on internet, reinstalled - same story

Have installed, uninstalled itunes on xp machine and tried all the fixes given in the discussion groups, plus cnet and other internet fixes.....nothing works.  After installation of itunes cpu usage goes to 100 percent and itunes stops.  Cpu stays at 100 percent until I uninstall itunes.  By the number of posts on the internet, I can't believe Apple hasn't addressed this issue with a fix.

I had the same problem but this worked for me.
Get to a dos command prompt and type:  netsh winsock reset
You will need to reboot your computer but it fixed tocpu 100% issue.
Good luck

How did you "reinstall?" Others are reporting that installing from scratch is working better. If you're going to keep trying with Lion, I'd recommend posting in the Lion forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.7_lion (wow, I almost said "Windows forum," hmmm ).
I may get in at 7.1, more likely at 7.2, but only if things look like they've changed enough. This appears to me to be on par with the change from 9 to X, and I waited until 10.2.3 with that one. If/when I do change, I'll have an up to the minute SL clone ready to reinstall if needed, and even then, I'll probably put 10.7 on an external HD.

Did you find any solution?

Before you go to the effort to downgrade, go to the small icon with the arrow at the extreme upper left and select "Show Menu Bar":
Then from the View menu select "Show Sidebar" and "Show Status Bar". That may alleviate some if not all your complaints. If not, you can download iTunes 10.7 here:

There are many threads in this forum with downgrade instructions.

• CAPL browser shows that the .can file is write protected while it is not and keeps toggling, CPU performance reach 100%

The problem is when I open the CAPL browser, the CPU load increases to 99~100%, and the .can file I am editing can't be saved, and I keep getting the message "file is protected and can't be saved". This happened on multiple machines with different CANoe versions.
I tested on these versions:
8.0.36
8.0.71
8.0.93
8.1.60
Randomly the icon of the "write protected" appears beside the file name in the file tab inside the CAPL browser, if I could press the save button while it is not appearing the file is saved, other wise I get the error message. The memory usage is also increases too much and then the browser stop responding.
Do any body had the same issue before? any advice?

Hi Allaithy,
Can you clarify how is this issue related to NI CAN products?
Anyway, here are some things to try:
Is this the file on a network? Do you have administrator privileges to this network?
Is file set to Read-only?

That's consistent with another application (other than QuickTime) having dropped old QuickTime componentry in non-standard locations on the PC.
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
