Itunes causing desktop crash/restart

Just did a sizable Java and iTunes update to 10.7 (21) a little earlier today. For some reason, the finder keeps crashing or restarting every 30 seconds or so. Its not a big issue, it's just really annoying.

Can anyone offer some tips to try to get this sorted?  Are there any logs that I can dig around in that might document exactly what is crashing?
I'm thinking a hardware issue at this point as its been a consistent issue across several installs over around 2 years and there are similar crashes in my windows partition (system magically restarts in or fails to wake up after the screen turns off).

  • ITunes causing Windows to restart

I seem to have an issue at the moment with iTunes causing sudden system restarts quite regularly - usually when I am browsing the store. It seems to date back to when they added all the coverflow to each of the categories. It's not related to any recent Itunes update and only iTunes does it; no other program.
    Anyone else getting this?

Also could it be my Vbios is somehow corrupted or causing this as it always seems to happen when windows is booting up before I have access to my machine right when it would be accessing the vBios?
    Nope

Ok so if anyone ends up having this rediculously confusing problem like I did allow me to say, simply unplug your other monitors from your computer and then run the Nvidia driver software, works every time now. Only 1 monitor can be plugged in at one time while running the driver updates.

  • ITunes Causing Desktop to Flicker

    Hi
Clicking on the Play, Next or Previous buttons (when a track is playing) cause the Desktop to flicker to grey. Tapping the right/left and Next/Previous on the keyboard has the same effect. Tapping the keys multiple times, in recognised by iTunes, the song name changes in now playing box but the desktop still only flashes once.
    Same happens in Safe Mode.

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the two computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. You can also if you have one, use your iPod as a hard drive and move the folder with it though that would be considerably slower than computer to computer. Here are a few links that may help you out:

I have tried restarting the machine and no dice. I thought of reinstalling itunes from apples site but each time I go there its says congrats on downloading it but will not download a single thing. On the problems downloading its only gives me answers to PC problems.
Do I really have to completely reinstall from my iMac install discs just to get itunes back ?
I dont use time machine as I have a 1T hardrive in my imac and use most of it for itunes, even I cant afford a 1T stand alone hard drive just for backups.

Yes, most times itunes will start now and go to the music section. Music works fine, can listne to songs with no problem. Some times itunes will crash just as soon as I hit the itunes icon but for the last day or so it will go to music with no problems. I can then go to apps and movies with no problems and even watch a movie. But if I click on the TV or book link it will crash.
I check and have no plug-ins in the iTunes folder.
Tried removing the the two items "iTunes folder & com.apple.iTunes" . I removed both to the desktop and restarted the mac. No dice it still crashes as soon as I try to go to the tv or the book link. Will return the two items to the library folder. Error report as follows.

  • Mountain Lion Desktop crash? Randomly it returns me to the login screen and I have restart all my apps

So after install of Mountain Lion (never happened before) my desktop crashes and it returns me to the login screen.  After I login I have to restart all my apps.
One morning this happened 5+ times in under an hour.  So my productivity has gone down :-(
I work around this by only running three apps (finder, terminal & firefox), and then it sees to only happen 2-3 times a day...sigh.
The only other odd thing and have no idea if it is related is that firefox was showing some animated image from the olympics and when I had it on one screen it was fine, when I had the window on the other screen, the image was not the right image, it looked like it had reached into the screen buffer of other applications and was displaying that (e.g. where there was a scrolling flame for the right image, there was some scrolling upside down text from my terminal when I had it on the other screen where the flame was supposed to be).
An help on how to debug/solve would be helpful.

You're welcome. If you use Zoom often try the new show controller feature. It's below where you turned zoom off. Once you turn it on you can use it to turn Zoom on and off. Plus you can use zoom as a magnifying glass instead of full screen.

  • My desktop crashed and I had to reinstall itunes how do I transfer all the apps and their information, music, and contacts from my iphone to the itunes software?

My desktop crashed and I had to reinstall itunes software.  My iphone has all my apps with their data, contacts, photos, videos & music.  How can I import all of the information and data on my iphone into itunes?  I downloaded one app that is a to-do-list but it indicates that if I sync with my iphone I will lose all data on my iphone and it will be replaced with the data on itunes.  I do not want to lose my data!  I have a lot of information and I cannot understand why Apple would not have a way to restore my data from my iphone to my itunes.  PLEASE HELP!

It should be like the very first time you synced your phone with I-Tunes. It will notice you haven't synced before and just copy everything from your phone into I-Tunes. It shouldn't delete anything from the phone, at least it never has for me. It just puts a copy of everything into I-Tunes and even if you delete an app for example from your phone and you decide you want it back later, you can just go back into I-Tunes and copy it back over. Hope this helps.

  • Not able to move iTunes library to Mac OS 10.5.2 - causes Finder crashes

I have struggled most of the day trying to do what in the past has always been very simple - move iTunes library to a new computer/OS. Old eMac housed the library, xml and album art files on the main hard drive. My music library (all the song files) was stored on an external drive. New Mac Pro, along with the same external drive with all the songs, will not accept the transported iTunes folder without crashing the Finder.
I solved the Finder crashing problem by "File/Import..." the xml file from my eMac library. However, using that approach causes me to lose a bunch of library data, including date created, last skipped, and skip count. There may be other parameters I am missing. Lastly, when going the import path - the new Mac Pro can't locate 20 of the songs.
I don't know why OS 10.5.2 won't accept the previous OS (10.3.9) iTunes library files without crashing the finder, but it doesn't. Are there any other work-arounds that will allow me to port the actual iTunes library file containing ALL metadata? I am starting to regret getting this new system - nothing but trouble in upgrading.

First, there is nothing you can do unless you can upgrade the computer to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 which is the minimum version compatible with your iPhone and the current version of iTunes. Furthermore, you will need a compatible version of iPhoto to use. That version should be available for installation using the original installation discs that came with your computer.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.

  • 160gb iPod Classic causes iTunes to freeze/crash

I have a 160gb iPod Classic and when plugged in the USB, it causes my iTunes to crash. My computer recognizes the iPod when plugged in but iTunes does not recognize the iPod and immediately freezes until I force shut down iTunes.  I have an updated version of iTunes, running it on Windows 7.  The iPod works when I am listening to it; however, there seems to be lagging and slower than normal controls compared to when I first purchased the iPod.  I have an iPod Nano that works while I plug it in the computer and iTunes does not crash.  iTunes also works normally when there is no iPod plugged in as well.

Having essentially the exact same problem. I have an iPod Classic 160GB but everytime I connect it to my laptop, iTunes freezes and I have to close it through Task Manager. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on an Acer Aspire 5551 with an AMD Athlon II P320 Dual-Core Processor.
The iPod plays music fine, although it is a little slower and less responsive than when I first had it (no track skips, just browsing menus). iTunes recognises my 8GB iTouch and remains responsive with that but for some reason it freezes when the Classic is connected. The Classic appears in My Computer but doesn't appear to be recognised by iTunes. As far as I'm aware my iTunes is up to date and it runs fine when nothing, or even my iTouch, is connected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Digital booklet from iTunes causing Preview to crash

I was conflicted about whether to put this question in the iTunes for Mac or the Mountain Lion community, but, as you can see, I've settled on Mountain Lion because I believe iTunes is not causing the problem.
I downloaded "Electric Ladyland" from iTunes the other day and received a digital booklet with the album. When I double-clicked the booklet in iTunes, Preview would open up (as it does with any of the other digital booklets I have stored in iTunes) and display the first or the second page of the PDF. After swiping either left or right to view the previous or the next page, though, Preview would completely shut down, necesitating a force quit every time.
Most concerning to me is the fact that every time I tried opening this PDF in Preview my whole Mac would slow down significantly and, according to iStat Menus and the Activity Monitor, my memory and CPU usage would spike. Prior to clicking the booklet, my Mac would normally be using less than 2 of its 4 GB of memory and the CPU would be almost completely idle, with no individual program using up more than 30% of its processing power at any point in time. While this particular PDF was open in Preview my memory usage would jump to the full 4 GB and Activity Monitor was reporting that Preview was using almost "200%" of my CPU.
Interestingly enough, I can open this PDF with Adobe Reader and am able to view every page just fine. None of my other digital booklets or other PDFs outside of iTunes cause Preview to crash like this, so I think it must be an issue between this specific file and Preview.
I tried deleting and re-downloading the file (I had to contact iTunes support so they could re-upload the booklet to my account) and that did nothing; the booklet still caused the same problems. The support staff member I was emailing back and forth with had no suggestions for me. She forwarded me to an AppleCare advisor who also had no idea what the problem might be. (He actually forwarded me back to iTunes support!)
    Anyone else experienced this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Copy the PDF you're having problems with to the Public folder in your home folder.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. You'll need to navigate in the Finder to the Users folder, then to the home folder of your regular login account, and then to the Public folder, where you'll find the file you copied. Try to open it in Preview. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. You can also delete the copy of the PDF.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • "My Rating" in iTunes causes crash

Before you all say I need to go to the iTunes area, I've been there. Most of the discussions are how to get and move songs from one computer to another, etc..
I believe this is a system problem, not iTunes.
    Here goes:
I don't use the "My Rating" feature, but sometimes when I go to the get info menu, I will accidentally pass over the Rating with my pointer. This causes an instant crash of iTunes.
The crash log indicates it could be a font problem.
I use a font management tool(Linotype)because of a large amount of fonts.
The fonts I have opened in the system are as follows:
    .Keyboard
    Courier
    Geneva
    Helvetica
    LastResort
    LucidaGrande
    Monaco
    Symbol
    Times
    Zapf Dingbats
This condition has existed for several updates, so I'm not blaming it on that.
    I have no other problems.
Someone have an idea of what font I could be missing?

  • Why does my MacBook spontaneously crash/restart?

My MacBook is suddenly restarting for no apparent reason.  What follows is a detailed description of the issue and surrounding circumstances, various elements of which may or may not be relevant.
Several months ago I noticed my trackpad button had stopped clicking reliably.  About two months ago I realized that the replacement laptop battery I was using (purchased on Amazon as genuine Apple product, but probably not really made by Apple) had begun to swell just enough to press up from the underside of the trackpad and prevent it from functioning properly.  I removed the battery and have been using the machine with AC power so that the trackpad will work right.  I intend to replace the battery with a new one directly from Apple, but given the cost I would like to make sure I can resolve my other issues first.  I have included the above because it was roughly around the time I began using my MacBook without a battery that the symptoms below began.  Using the computer without a battery may or may not be related these issues, but it is the only thing I can think of that changed anywhere near when the problems began.
Around this time, the backlight on the built-in display began to regularly (1-5 times per hour of use) shut itself off.  The LCD stays on and can still be seen faintly in ambient light, but the backlight turns itself off as if I had turned the brightness all the way down using the F1 key.  The brightness control itself seems to stay up, however, as the temporary fix I was able to find by researching the issue online is to turn the brightness all the way down (using the F1 key) and then back up again (using F2) and display brightness rises with my pressing the F2 display-brighter button.  This would last anywhere from 1-1000 minutes (approximate) of use before shutting off (backlight) again and I would have to do the same thing.  The length of time until the next shutoff seems to be shorter the brighter I have the display brightness set, but the symptom comes and goes in fits and spurts.  Sometimes I can't keep it on more than 15 seconds and I just give up and drag whatever windows I'm working on to my external monitor (which functions fine throughout - I use the external and built-in displays side-by-side with a mini-DVI to DVI adapter), but other times it will go for a week just fine.  This may or may not be related to my more serious issue below, but it began just in advance of the below and has continued to the present.
About the same time I stopped using the battery and started experiencing display backlight shutoffs, my computer began spontaneously crashing and restarting itself.   The first time it happened I was attempting to play a video (MP4 I think) from the hard drive in QuickTime Player.  The video played for a few minutes, and then my computer crashed and began to restart itself.  I let it restart and tried playing the video several more times, even using VLC instead of QuickTime as the player, but each time the computer would play a few seconds to a few minutes before dying and restarting.  In the hours and days that followed, the machine would randomly restart every 1-100 (approximately) minutes of use.  The shutdowns seemed more likely to occur when attempting to play video of any format, local or online, and for a while I couldn't even play a YouTube vid without the computer shutting down.  Sometimes the machine would restart to my login screen, but then if I logged in right away it would begin the login process but then die and restart again.  If I waited a while before logging in it seemed to "calm down" and would login successfully.  The restarts were more likely during video playback, but not exclusive to this task.
I noticed that the restarts seemed to especially come in "clumps," and that allowing the machine a rest seemed to help.  I also noticed that the fan frequently (but not always) sounded like it was running at full power at the time of restart.  I concluded that the restarts were likely the result of overheating.  I disassembled the machine in order to clean out the fan and heat sink.  I didn't find much lint / blockage, but I thoroughly cleaned out what was there and did a cursory look around the internals for anything that might appear to be out of order, but I didn't find anything remarkable.  The restarts continued, together with high fan speeds just before, so I downloaded iStat Pro to monitor internal temperatures in my status bar.  I watched temps pretty closely, especially when I heard the fan, but the highest I ever saw was 80 degrees celsius on the CPU die.  I don't know a lot about CPU temperature ranges, but from some cursory research it looks like that is way below the cutoff for an automatic shutdown (and besides, it seems like it should shutdown rather than restart for overheating).  I watched to see if the restarts happened at the same temperature every time, but they varied widely, sometimes even occurring below 65 C, with or without high fan noise.
The issue persisted and was becoming a real problem for me, and I already had a HDD I was planning to upgrade to, so I decided to do the HDD swap and follow with a clean install of OSX (via download from Apple) rather than migrate from my old drive because I figured that would take care of any software issues.  After I swapped out the HDD and did a clean install it was three days or so until the display backlight cut out as before, and about a week before the first sudden restart, which brings us to the present.  Since that first restart, I've seen another 6 or so in the last 4 hours.  I have also noticed an occasional failure to get past the grey screen on an intentional shutdown (not the sudden restarts) since replacing the HDD and reinstalling OSX, but that only happens on occasion.  The only things I have installed since replacing the HDD other than the OS are MS Office for Mac 2011 (from CD) and then Flash and Silverlight plug-ins for Safari.  I've also transferred over some files from my old HDD using a USB caddy and have opened some documents, but I haven't run any applications or installers besides the aforementioned.  I haven't been able to transfer everything from the old HDD though, because the old drive (in a USB caddy) drive seems to spontaneously unmount, giving me the "the disk was not ejected properly" message and causing Finder to freeze up with a spinwheel of death and not recover after relaunching finder in the Force Quit dialog.  This seems to lead to the manual shutdown stalling on the grey screen as well (when means I have to use the button to force full shutdown).  This could just be a problem with my caddy though.
Here is what I have tried, in total:
    - Restarted the machine
    - Disassembled laptop and cleaned out the fan / heat sink
    - Watched temperatures (no apparent correlation)
    - Replaced HDD and reinstalled OSX from scratch (by download from Apple)
    - Ran Apple Hardware Test (no problems found)
    - Software Update ("your software is up to date")
    - Checked for System Diagnostic Reports in Console following spontaneous restarts, found none present
    - Reset NVRAM / PRAM
    - Reset SMC
Those last two resets I did just prior to posting and so far I haven't seen the crash/restart, although I have seen the dead backlight.  It hasn't been long though so we'll see. . .

One final note - when the system spontaneously restarts, it doesn't properly shutdown as it would if I initiated a restart, it just suddenly dies, black screen, and then I hear the startup tone and it begins to restart.
Obviously this is an older machine and I've gotten a lot of good use out of it, but I still need it and don't have the budget right now to replace it so any help you can offer would be much appreciated.  I'm pretty much stymied.
Please let me know if anything is missing / unclear!

  • Trying to sync music onto iPod but iTunes 11 keeps crashing

I am trying to sync my entire iTunes library music onto iPod but iTunes 11 keeps crashing (using Windows 8 laptop)
I have tried to do it manually in little chunk and also tried the auto sync method too.
I have restored my ipod to factory setting 12 times now and retry but just when I think I'm getting somewhere iTunes freezes in the middle of the sync and then tell me it "cannot copy  because of unknown error (-50)"
From then on my Ipod refuses to accept any more syncing, it may do one and then it freezes again, iTunes says there is an issue with iPod, so I run a scan fix, it is repaired but then iTunes wants me to "restore to factory settings" again, it's a never ending circle, I get it fixed, iTunes crashes and then I have to fix, restore and start all over again just to have the same thing happen all over again
I have read here and there that there seems to be a bug in iTunes 11 when it comes to syncing.
I don't know what else to do, except revert back to iTunes 10 but I don't know how to do that either.
Anyone else had same issue syncing their library over to their iPod and how I fix it?

    Hi, ktchinagirl.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple reason this issue could be happening.  I have included a couple troubleshooting resources below that may help resolve this issue.  Some of the articles are missing the steps for Windows 8, try the steps for Windows 7 as an alternative.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3219
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause this error. Contact the software manufacturer that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows:How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
This could be related to security software conflicts.  If the steps above have not resolved the issue, I would recommend going through the troubleshooting steps in the article below.
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues

    Cheers,

  • Passbook causing iphone to restart each time I slide to view banner alert

Trying to figure out if it's the application that is causing the crash or new 5S or both.
Downloaded AMEX app and added a pass book scan through the app for one of my cards. Every time I use it the pass book displays a banner alert and it says " Slide to view details" EVERY single time I slide my phone displays the apple logo and automatically returns to lock screen without the banner alert like it restarted really quick.

    Hi Rackham12!
I have a couple of troubleshooting suggestions for you regarding this issue. First, simply attempt to reset your phone according to the instructions in this link:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If you are still experiencing the issue after attempting the troubleshooting step above, you may need to make a backup of your iOS device and restore it according to the steps in this article:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhone recovery causes PC crashes

    Hi guys
I just got my brand new iPhone 3GS and attached it to my PC (Win XP, iTunes 8.2.1).
While doing the automatic updates, my PC crashed and rebooted automatically.
After restarting everything, iTunes reported that a recovery is required. I started the recovery and it crashed/restarted again while doing the recovery.
Now the iPhone is stuck in the recovery screen. It always crashes when doing the recovery, so currently I can't absolutey do anything.
Anyone a hint what I could do?

    hi avv!
it doesn't show up in My Computer or in Itunes, and after a while, a bluescreen comes up and the computer restarts.
hmmm. haven't had to deal with one of these for a while ...
okay, in my experience (still not as extensive as i would like) there are three main causes for BSODs-on-plugin. we'll proceed on all three fronts simultaneously:
b (1) problems with other CD burning/ripping software
what other CD burning/ripping software do you have installed on your machine? please go into the "about" screen in the packages and let us know the precise name and version number of each package. (decimal places
    b are
    important.)
    b (2) problems with docks/USB/firewire
if you have a dock, do you still get the crash if you plug the ipod directly into your USB or firewire? if you don't have a dock, can you plug in without crashing if you use a different USB/Firewire port?
b (3) problems with the antivirus package
can you plug in without crashing if you switch off your antivirus first?
keep us posted on your progress.
    love, b

  • ITunes quits unexpectedly - crash reports

I have an issue with iTunes 11, which I used to have with iTunes 10 also so it doesn't seem to be version-specific.
My MacBook is used as a kind of media server, and so I have iTunes running all the time. After several hours though, iTunes will unexpectedly quit. If I reopen it it runs fine for hours, but then quits again. I can't figure out what's causing it.
I've sent a ton of crash reports to Apple over the last several months, and the latest is attached (text clipping format). I wondered if anyone versed with crash reports would be able to tell where the problem lies?
I'm running on a late-2008 MacBook, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB Ram, running the latest version of Mountain Lion. My iTunes library is on an external USB hard drive.

Re: iTunes 10.6 crashing after upgrade
    Mar 8, 2012 12:24 AM
Here's the fix (I spend like an hour coming up with this):
Quit iTunes (if it hasn't already quit itself)
Go to /Applications/ and click iTunes.app
Press command + I to get info
Edit the permissions so everyone has read/write access
Move iTunes 10.6 to the trash
Go to ~/Music/iTunes (or wherever your iTunes library is stored)
Copy iTunes Library.itl to your desktop to be safe (delete it when you finish the process, this is your 10.6 library which you may still want if you can't fix iTunes after this)
Go to ~/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/ and copy the file that was created closest to today (in my case, it was one from about an hour before I installed 10.6); the old library you're copying is your iTunes 10.5.3 library
    Paste it in ~/Music/iTunes
Rename the file to iTunes Library.itl
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete everything that starts with com.apple.iTunes
Download the iTunes 10.5.3 disk image fromhttp://www.filejungle.com/f/QuAu6Q (just click slow download, it should start shortly after)
Install iTunes 10.5.3; it should load the older library you just copied to your iTunes folder
    Open iTunes
Play a victory song and wait for 10.6.1 so you don't have to do this again
