ITunes causing freeze

The update to version 9.0.3 went successfully, but upon launching the program, os completely freezes. Tried without Internet to alleviate connection related issues. Problem is also not related to library. Not installation related. Not 64/32 bit related. Any ideas?

I had to transfer my ipod music Back to the computer (using software available on the internet at $20. I purchased this two months ago when my computere crashed and i was able to reload the music from the ipod with no problem) It all went well and all the music is in itunes. The problem is, when i open itunes the mouse has no effect, the program is unresponsive. I need to do cntrl/alt/delete to get it off the screen. I followed the instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, but still the screen opens with my library but there is no response from a mouse click!

  • Purchased movie sync-back to iTunes causes Freeze

iTunes consistently freezes while transferring a purchased movie from the Apple TV to the iTunes Library during a sync. iTunes always freezes at the same point in the transfer, and is 100% repeatable. In fact, I have not been able to to use iTunes since making this movie purchase on the Apple TV.

The transfer consistantly fails about 25% completion. Not sure of the exact %, but the bar always stops at the same position.
There is no failure message. iTunes begins to consume 100% CPU utilization, and must be force quit. It is unresponsive.
This was the first purchase made since upgrading to v2.3.
I have restarted both my MacBook, and the Apple TV with no change in results.
I am unable to use iTunes because it freezes (see above) as soon as it finds the Apple TV on the network and begins to transfer the purchased movies to the iTunes Library.

  • Error -402653077 attaching iPad to iTunes causes freeze

I am using Lion 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5 and a first generation iPad.  I was trying to update the iPad to the current software version of iOS5. ( to make the move to the icloud) After attempting to back up and update the iPad, I got an error message: -402653077. At that time it asks me if I want to continue, but if I do I will lose all of the data on the iPad, so I select cancel, thinking that I could just try the operation again.
The operation cancels but when I try to attach the iPad to my computer and open iTunes, iTunes freezes and I have to force quit. iTunes will work if the iPad is not attached.  The iPad itself works but I can't update it or sync it with my account. ( I had no problem updating my iPod )
Any help would be great, thanks.

I solved the iTunes freezing problem by checking the connection to the computer and starting the iPad in recovery mode.
I solved the -402653077 error, which would not allow me to back up the iPad, by installing iOS5 and erasing the existing contents of the iPad without trying to backing it up.  I then restored some of the settings using a month old back up that worked.  The iPad seems to work fine now and backs up to the computer.
The link you sent describes the problem and confirms that I did the correct thing to get it working.
    Thanks

  • Windows recognizes iPod, but not iTunes or iPod updater, causes freezing

I'm having some issues with my 60GB iPod Photo. I tried to store my friend's music on my iPod as files. Upon uploading them to my own computer, some files caused freezing, requiring me to disconnect and reconnect the iPod. I finally gave up and deleted all the files stored on my iPod. All of a sudden, although Windows XP Pro recognized that an iPod was plugged in, it would no longer open iTunes automatically. When opening iTunes once the iPod was plugged in, it would cause iTunes to freeze.
I decided to restore my iPod. About halfway through, there was an error message saying my iPod could not be restored. All songs were deleted but my iPod was still not recognized. Now, the iPod updater does not recognize that in iPod is connected, even though Windows does. The updater freezes, inhibiting me from completing my restore. iTunes freezes as well when my iPod is plugged in. My iPod displays "update in progress - do not disconnect," but nothing happens. When my iPod is not connected to the computer, I can navigate through it normally, although it does need to be unfrozen when left unused for a couple of days. I cannot tell if it plays files because they were all removed during my unsuccessful restore.
I have tried reinstalling all my iPod related software and I have tried my iPod on more than one computer with different USB cables, but nothing works.
    Help, please!

This is exactly the same problem that I am having I have posted on 14th March on itunes forum. I wish you luck I wait with interest to see what someone says. My ipod was working like a dream until i downloaded the update

  • Will not enough RAM cause iTunes to freeze?

My computer does not have the required RAM that Apple says you need for iTunes 9. Will this cause iTunes to freeze?

It's possible. Whenever a computer doesn't meet system requirements for a particular piece of software, it's possible the software may work just fine and it's also possible that some issues may be encountered. I ran iTunes 7 (required 512 MB RAM at least, as I recall) on an XP box with only 256 MB RAM. iTunes worked but lagged, and video playback was pretty much not an option.
    Hope this helps.

  • My itunes been freezing up quite a bit lately.  what could be the general cause?

My itunes been freezing up (rainbow pin wheel) quite a bit lately.  What could be causing this?

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Or If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk.

  • Downloading itunes causes computer to freeze because of high computer usage...how do i fix it?

downloading itunes causes computer to freeze because of high computer usage...how do i fix it?

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Itunes media on a shared drive causes freeze

I use a LaCie 3TB drive to hold my media connected by Firewire to my Mac Mini.  I use home sharing to share the media and it works fine but every 12 hours or so Itunes will freeze on my mac mini.  I have to force quit Itunes, but even then, I cannot restart the mac (it hangs on the shutdown screen).  I have to do a hard reboot. I do not have to reboot the storage although I have tried it and it does not help.
I have the same symptoms when I try to backup my iMac to the MacMini's 3TB Seagate USB drive so I do not believe it is related to the LaCie drive.  In both cases, when TimeMachine or Itunes hangs, when I click on the external drive in the finder, the finder hangs.
The disk utility reports no issues for any of the drives (mac mini system, 3TB Firewire, 3 TB USB).
I have disabled time machine and it has not helped.
    Any ideas greatly appreciated

I have put the library on an external drive connected by usb to my wireless router.
what exactly have you put on the external ? the entire iTunes folder or just the iTunes music (or media) folder ?
On my iMac I can select the itunes folder on the drive in itunes advanced preferences and my music shows up in the itunes window an I can play it. But on my MacbookPro although I can select the folder, nothing shows up in the itunes window.
this leads me to believe that you consolidated the iMac's library to the external but kept the library files local. pointing iTunes media folder location to a new spot tells iTunes where to put new additions to your library, but not where the current content is.
what you need to do is to copy the entire iTunes folder to the external, then (on each Mac) launch iTunes while holding the option(⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder you copied to the external.
note only one Mac at a time can access the library !

  • IPod Classic causes iTunes to freeze

Recently iTunes has frozen every time I connect my iPod classic, it shows 'not responding' in the task manager and refuses to respond until I unplug my ipod, once I've done that a message comes up saying itunes has stopped responding and windows is looking for a solution. The ipod doesn't make it as far as being recognised by itunes, but it is by my computer, as when it is connected I am asked if I want to scan and fix.
I have Googled various solutions and eventually I have managed to format the ipod, then when I connected it to itunes it said it had detected a corruped ipod and I followed the steps to restore to factory settings which went ahead fine. However, now that my ipod is wiped of everything and I'd like to sync to put my songs etc back on there I am encountering the same problem where itunes just freezes as soon as it's plugged in.
Has anyone got any advice? I know that it is a problem with this specific iPod and not iTunes or the computer because everyone in the household has an iPod and they are all working fine.

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

If necessary, post the resultings numbers and we can verify what the next steps to take.

Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.
    Good Luck!

  • Itunes 9 freezing.

Whenever I try to put music on to my iPod touch 2g 3.0, iTunes will freeze after "syncing" and won't open up once minimized, it requires me to close and open iTunes each time I want to put music on my iPod. iTunes will also slow down for about 30 seconds whenever I double click a song to play it. Is there any fix to this, or can I download iTunes 8 again?
Message was edited by: Quentin K.

    Hi,
I had the same freezing/beachballing at startup problems with iTunes 9 described here.
After tweaking various things unsuccessfully to solve the problem, I removed the iTunes Scripts folder (~/Library/iTunes/Scripts) which contained a set of AppleScripts installed by iTuneMyWalkman.
This instantly solved the freezing problem at start up.
Now, I don't know if this problem is caused by iTuneMyWalkman in particular or by Applescripts in general in iTunes 9, but the iTuneMyWalkman scripts never caused any trouble with previous versions of iTunes.
    Food for thought...

  • Itunes constantly freezing and not allowing me to sign out

i'm on windows7. I recently updated itunes to a later version an i have been hassling with freezing "not responding" ever since. I have also linked my itunes to my old Account whih was set up while i was in a different country. I have been trying to create a new account linked with my new location, but Itunes keeps freezing whenever i try to sign out of my existing account. any idea on what would be causing this and how can i sort it out?

    Hi,
I think you'll have to reinstall iTunes completely. First, to delete iTunes completely, use an app such as AppCleaner. Then, install iTunes: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

  • ITunes + iPhoto Freezing

    Hi,
Recently, when working with iTunes, iPhoto or Photoshop, mouse freezes and I can't even Force Quit. I have to press the power button and have it down that way. It is getting more frequent and I would like to know what could be causing that to happen.
    Thanks.

I have also experienced freezes in iTunes and Safari. By chance, do you use Mighty Mouse? It seems it can cause freezes. See the thread

  • ITunes Store freeze while downloading and now permanent problems

I bought an album through the iTunes Store today, and while downloading, iTunes completely froze. Not sure how that freeze was caused, could be that I was using up a little too many system resources with other stuff running in the background.
In any case, the album was only partially downloaded, so when I restarted iTunes I used the "search for available downloads" option to succesfully download the rest of the album, or so I thought. Turns out it did download all songss except for one, and that one doesn't show up anymore when I retry the "available downloads" option.
Strangely, whenever I now select one of the other songs from the same album in my library, iTunes completely freezes! I can only get it working again by stopping the process through taskmanager and restarting. This only occurs when the Genius-bar is shown, so it looks like looking up these songs through the iTunes store is causing a problem somehow. Does anyone have any ideas to
    a) get the missing song from the store and
    b) keep iTunes from crashing??
Is there a way to deinstall and reinstall iTunes without losing my settings, iPhone backups and library? Or can I repair an installed version somehow?
(I have the most recent iTunes version (8.0.1.11), running on WinXP SP3 - oh and it did synch the incomplete album to my iPhone and I can play the songs without problems on that)

Deleting the album, reinstalling iTunes and then re-downloading the album turned out to be the way to fix it.
