ITunes Causing Vista BSOD with RAID Errors

This thread is here to collate as much information and posts on the problem regarding BSODs occuring in Windows Vista and causing RAID errors to occur.
What Happens: Start iTunes and start performing a hard drive intensive task (Importing, converting etc). iTunes will seem to 'freeze', in some cases up to five minutes, but will regardless cause Windows Vista to BSOD. On restart the RAID array will complain of errors. Most cases are that restarting again and clearing the error will be fine, though there are some reports that people have had to rebuild their array.
Common Elements: Windows Vista, iTunes, Intel RAID Chipsets (ICH6R, ICH7R and ICH8R chipsets reported so far.

Custom Intel based Generic PC   Windows XP Pro   750GB NAS Storage, DVDRW DL, 5th Gen 80GB iPod, 2nd Gen 8GB Nano (Both Black)
I'm running a dual boot with WinXP Pro SP2 as the primary OS, Vista RC1 on separate partition. I had Vista Ultimate (RC1) Release Candidate 1, a pre-release version of Vista up and running with iTunes version 7.1.1. Updating My Library, when system crashed and trashed my array.
I was running 2 400GB WD's when my RAID 1 erred. The array corrupted and after limping through several array rebuilds and Windows repairs, Win XP finally died and was unrecoverable.
I originally suspected an issue with Vista & iTunes, especially since I was running a pre-release version of Vista then I remembered reading a recent WD Support issue about some newer WD SATA Gen 2 drives failing in RAID arrays.
To make a long story short, thank God for my back-up NAS Drives, I lost my array. Traced the problem to a Raid compatibility issue with the WD drives running in full SATA ATA Gen 2 transfer rate mode and the Intel ICHR8 SATA RAID Controller. They don't play nice together when stressed with large file transfers. Replaced WD's with two Seagate 750's in RAID 1, running full SATA Gen 2 mode and have had no problems since.
Check out WD's Support forums, if you have newer WD's I'll bet it's a SATA RAID / Drive issue more than iTunes and Vista.

  • Warning iTunes causes corruption to Nvida RAID 5 arrays on Vista x64

For the second time I have had gotten one of my drives corrupted by iTunes. At first I didn't know what the issue was. I thought one of my drives was going bad. Funny enough I stopped using iTunes in x64 since there isn't iPod Touch support and dual boot to XP. Since I did that I didn't have issues for weeks. I never associated the issue to iTunes in till just 15min ago. I just started iTunes in Vista and got raid error almost as soon as I started it. I first I didn't think iTunes was related to my issue. Now I know for sure.
I hope someone sees this and avoids the issue if at all possible. I was lucky it only took out one of my drives and I was able to rebuilt it again. Apple fix your software. I know us Windows users don't mean anything to you but if would be nice to have software that doesn't try to eliminate my PC. That would be great!!!

Yes, how can I say this... DUH! But if you seen the link above this isn't even a x64 only issue. Its any version of Vista using Nvidia raid. Both 32-Bit and 64-Bit have the issue. This is a warning aka "<WARNING>" so others might stay away when running in a RAID so they don't lose data. XP64 and Vista x64 work fine unless you need to sync your iPod or using Raid.
So far I only lack drivers for a wireless card and have issues with iTunes in Vista. Nothing has been a bigger issue then iTunes IMO.

  • TS5376 I have a laptop that i am running with Windows Vista. A while ago, it stopped running iTunes and comes up with the error : Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.

I have an iMac as my home computer, upgraded to this about a year ago from a windows pc and love it.
    However...
I have a HP Compaq laptop that i am running with Windows Vista, which I use when travelling. A while ago, I believe on an update, to either windows or itunes, it stopped running iTunes and comes up with the error : Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
I have a reasonable amount of tunes stored on my laptop, and am unable to ascertain as to whether this fix for allowing itunes to work again will delete my music folder and lose all the tunes i have on my laptop already?
The contents of my music folders on my laptop and iMac are not the same, as they are not synced!
Any help please on this would be appreciated!
    Pete

  • Itunes 10.5 crashes with no error when trying to play any music, video, or import/scan from the library folder on the compter with Windows 7 Pro.

Fresh install with all older itunes un-installed as well as other Apple software.
Now cannot get any songs, videos, or even scan library folder for songs to work on the computer.
itunes just simply crashes with no error comments.
This is itunes 10.5 on a Windows 7 Pro system.

Same here, though on XP. Have tried cleaning registry, reinstalling, deleting preferences. Created a new user with no library and I have the problem there, too, so it's not the library.
Is there no one to call about this??

  • HT1926 after i install itunes it comes up with a error saying it was installed incorrectly.  I have uninstalled and installed it 3 times.  Help

After I install itunes it comes up with a error message saying it was installed incorrectly and that I won't be able to import or burn cds.  I have uninstalled it 3 times and re installed it.  Still happening.  I have taken my computer to get looked at and there is nothing wrong with it.

After I install itunes it comes up with a error message saying it was installed incorrectly and that I won't be able to import or burn cds.
That suggests damage to the GEAR drivers, but we'd better doublecheck.
Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". (If you're running iTunes 11.0.x you'll need to bring up your menu bar first to see the Help menu.) Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

  • Itunes causes Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error at Vista Startup

I installed Itunes version 8.1.1 and Quicktime on my Toshiba laptop with Vista. The installation went in correctly and Itunes found my music library.
However, when i rebooted the system, i get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error Library error message that states "This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. The message persists and Vista will not boot up.
I have to do a system restore in safe mode to get Vista usuable again.
Has anyone seen this problem and can you help me find the culprit.

Some people have reported that Apple Software Update can cause this error, so you might try removing that and see if it helps. Removing that utility should not affect iTunes, though you won't get automatic updates (you can just download any new version of iTunes or QuickTime manually and install it). It would, however, be wise to make a backup of any purchased content or items that would otherwise be difficult to replace, just in case something goes wrong.

  • ITunes on Vista... no error message but won't install

I am using Windows Vista and recently had a new harddrive put into my laptop, and am reinstalling programs. I'm having trouble with downloading iTunes. When I get the first window that says "You have chosen to open iTunesSetup.exe" I click Save File and it seems to download, and then that is all it does. There is no error message and when I search through my programs, there is nothing with that title or pertaining to my download. I have tried this several times with the same results. Also I have installed all updates for my laptop and everything is up to date. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to AD!
Turn off your pop-up blocking software. When you click Save File, a dialogue box is supposed to pop up, asking where you want to save it to. That pop-up is being blocked.

  • Fixing the itunes 8 & Vista BSOD

Not sure if this has been posted, but happy to share my fix. I too was suffering from the dreaded BSOD after clean installing iTunes 8. The BSOD was immediate upon connection of my iphone and associated with the usbaapl.dll.
    Here's what to do:
    1) Get yourself a copy of iTunes 7.7 (plenty of sites of the net are hosting old versions)
    2) From the control panel uninstall "Apple Mobile Device Support"
    3) Using WINACE or WINRAR extract the files from the iTunes 7.7 installation package.
    4) From the extracted files install the AppleMobileDeviceSupport package (nothing else)
    5) Voila...no more BSOD

Apple today released a tech note, suggesting to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support, restart the computer, and re-download and re-install the iTunes 8 installer. It's unclear what about Apple Mobile Device Support was causing the problem.
According to Macworld and ZDNet, Apple simply replaced the files associated with Apple Mobile Device Support (usbaapl.sys or usbaapl64.sys) with the versions shipped with iTunes 7.7.
Computerworld highlighted several irate comments from an Apple Discussions thread on the subject, including precious gems such as "I love how Apple owns up to problems... IT'S NOT US! IT MUST BE YOU! OR MICROSOFT! OR YOUR MOUSE! OR YOUR CHAIR!"

  • ITunes Store Not Loading with no error message and have gone through all online support procedures

Hi I am trying to conect to the iTunes store here in NJ via my laptop and my school's Wifi network, but nothing ever happens...
I click on the iTunes store button and it comes up with the loading bar at the top of the screen where the song time marker would be, but nothing ever happens. It just loads and loads and loads, I don't even get an error message...
I have followed all the iTunes online support procedures for trying to reslove the issue including: reinstalling iTunes, wiping the ipconfig cache from the run dialogue box, adding iTunes to the firewall "allow" list, and even running the iTunes diagnostic for store connectivity. The diagnostic comes back saying that everything is fine but that iTunes cannot make a secure connection to the store, when I try to follow the help button from the diagnostic, iTunes tells me that it cannot connect to the internet and to make sure that my computer has all network cables plugged in etc. but obviously that is not the issue, or I wouldn't be able to be online to post this message...
I know that it has nothing to do with my campus' network, because I am able to view the iTunes store via my iPhone 3GS on the same network.
I am using a Dell Precision M6300 with an intel Centrino Duo and Windows XP service pack 3.
    HELP!!!!!
    -Duncan-

I click on the iTunes store button and it comes up with the loading bar at the top of the screen where the song time marker would be, but nothing ever happens. It just loads and loads and loads, I don't even get an error message...
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Whenever I connect my iPhone to iTunes, it comes up with an error message

Okay so my brother received his new iPhone 5s a couple of weeks back and we share an iTunes account so I connected his iPhone to my macbook because his laptop has broken USB ports. Everything was fine and all, but I went to connect my phone to my MacBook this morning as I am expecting my upgrade in a couple of days so I wanted to restore it all. Except as soon as I connect my phone to my MacBook my iPhone goes crazy (I have the 4s), like I was taking the charger in and out incredibly quickly, and then iTunes comes up with the message "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected." and I have no idea what's happened or how to resolve it? I have updated my MacBook and my iTunes and reinstalled iTunes but no result, what can I do?

    Hey eventsjordan1,

  • I've just opened iTunes on my Mac with an error "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.". I created a shirred library so that all users on my Mac can access the same library. Help?

I have just opened ITunes on my Mac and the following error occurred "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.". When I setup my Mac I created a shared user area to contain my ITunes library so that I could share it with another user logged onto my Mac. However the error above gives me the impression that the library file is locked... I've checked and it does not seem to be locked under the "get info" fie information. Has anyone come across this before and found a solution?

You also need to make sure you have both read and write permission for the file, or for the whole iTunes folder for that matter.  That's also done in Get Info for the file or folder concerned.
Read the part about changing permissions on the iTunes folder in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11583914

  • IPod/iTunes causes Vista to crash

Plugging my iPod in causes my OS to crash. I really want to listen to my iPod, something I haven't been able to do since I bought this new laptop a few weeks ago. Since Apple doesn't seem willing to support Vista in a timely manner, I wonder if there are other Vista users who have found work-arounds for this? (My iPod is fine if I plug it into another computer)
I really want a solution. Any help? Should I just switch to Ubuntu?

I have the same thing. as soon as i plug in the iPod, I get the "blue screen of death" which causes the computer to jump into safe mode. My iPod is not the problem, and the sync caused my iPod to erase all the music on it. Now I have a useless hard drive with a click wheel that I cannot put anything on!
