ITunes causing Windows to restart

I seem to have an issue at the moment with iTunes causing sudden system restarts quite regularly - usually when I am browsing the store. It seems to date back to when they added all the coverflow to each of the categories. It's not related to any recent Itunes update and only iTunes does it; no other program.
Anyone else getting this?

Also could it be my Vbios is somehow corrupted or causing this as it always seems to happen when windows is booting up before I have access to my machine right when it would be accessing the vBios?
Nope

Ok so if anyone ends up having this rediculously confusing problem like I did allow me to say, simply unplug your other monitors from your computer and then run the Nvidia driver software, works every time now. Only 1 monitor can be plugged in at one time while running the driver updates.

The topic kinda says a lot my N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC is causing windows to restart. I did not originally have this problem however after a recent reformat I started to have windows crash on the loading screen giving me and error

However, after some testing on my own I discovered it was card and/or driver related to your card/driver. As when I start windows without a video driver ... it is fine every time. Yet once the driver is installed, bang, crash every time. The only time it did not crash was when it was updating windows, pre-SP1 on win7 ultimate. Which is some kind of wierd workaround the crash. Now it seems to be persistent and I do not plan to reinstall windows everyday kinda like I have had too the last couple days. Helps plz !!

  • ITunes causes Windows to lose contact with external hard drive

I'm running iTunes on Windows, with my music library on a 160gb external hard drive. System has been set up this way for a couple of years with no serious problems.
I recently received a used iPod which I successfully synched with iTunes a number of times. The last time I tried however, I got a strange error message (can't remember what) and the synching quit.
Since that time, whenever I open iTunes, it causes Windows to 'lose' the external drive; i.e. if I check to see if Windows detects the external drive before I open iTunes, it's there. But when I open iTunes and attempt to perform any function (like play a song) I get the "Delayed Write Failed" error message, the lost track error message by the song titles, my music folder location has switched from the e:/ drive to c:/ and a check of Windows explorer shows that the e:/ drive is no longer there.
Lots of tech friends of mine - and the tech support at Ximeta (the external drive maker) - are stumped by this problem.
Any and all answers, suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

    that's an odd issue.
by way of experiment, do you get the same sort of issue if you try opening a different sort of file (with a different application) that is stored on that hard drive? say, a Word document or something like that?

  • Itunes causes Windows Vista  Explorer shortcut buttons to misbehave

    Hi,
I've been observing some strange phenomena on my Windows Vista which my wife recently correlated to running ITunes. I'm pretty sure she is right about ITunes being the cause.
When ITunes has been running for a while, the shortcut buttons at the bottom of the screen (one for each running application) end up being drawn shifted, such that the rightmost one appears UNDER the circular icon with the Window's logo flag (the "start" button), but the actual button is still in it's correct place. The result is is that when you click on a button, it activates an adjacent application!
Furthermore, when I start ITunes, I get a notification that Quicktime is out of date. The warning reads: "Some of your QuickTime software is out of date. You can fix this problem by updating to the latest version." with "Cancel" and "DoItNow" buttons. When I click the DoItNow button, I then get another message: "Information received from the Quick Time server is invalid. Please try again later."
    I am running ITunes 7.5.0.20.

    Mark Z.
Lets break this down step by step.
In your first question you say that when itunes is running for a while it shifts the buttons on the task bar.  when this happens you have to unlock the task-bar and manually fix the task bar.
Right click the task bar and select unlock task bar
    Fix the task bar
And then right click the task bar again and select lock the task bar.
If it helps you might need to close itunes to fix this problem.
(Note itunes 7.5 has a lot of problems in it hopefully the next itunes update will resolve this.)
Your next question states that when you try to up date quick time you get a message saying that the"Information received from the Quick Time server is invalid. Please try again later."
The best way to fix this is to download the installer files off of the apple website and install them.
Here is the link to the quicktime installer.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Download and install the installer which is the updated version of quick time
(There is an option to download both itunes and quick time )
(Quick time version 7.3.1) (If you redownload itunes the version is 7.5)
    Hope this helps,

  • Itunes causing desktop crash/restart

Just did a sizable Java and iTunes update to 10.7 (21) a little earlier today. For some reason, the finder keeps crashing or restarting every 30 seconds or so. Its not a big issue, it's just really annoying.

Can anyone offer some tips to try to get this sorted?  Are there any logs that I can dig around in that might document exactly what is crashing?
I'm thinking a hardware issue at this point as its been a consistent issue across several installs over around 2 years and there are similar crashes in my windows partition (system magically restarts in or fails to wake up after the screen turns off).

  • ITunes causes Windows Vista 32 bit to hang

Whenever I have tried to do anything that involves video with iTunes, regardless of whether my new video iPod is connected, my machine grinds to a complete halt after several seconds.
It starts with iTunes not responding, then explorer stops responding to mouse actions, then all other applications stop responding and all I/O appears to cease (no hard drive activity, no keyboard input acknowledged, no response to a quick press of the power button, no network activity). I've not got a BSOD - maybe I've just given up waiting before one appears.
I have tried removing and reinstalling Quicktime and iTunes and the problem remains. I had manage to add a load of video podcasts to iTunes but now that means I can't open it at all because as soon as it starts/finishes downloading something it kills my machine.
Some help would be greatly appreciated.
      Windows Vista   P4 3Ghz, 2.5GB DDR2, Radeon X1950 PCI-E, 500GB SATA RAID0

Hmmmm. Unfortunately, most of the helpful documentation and discussion i've seen about the RAID issues has related to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers, and most of the SATA documentation and discussions relates to PCs with nVidia video cards (and/or other nVidia componentry).
I had a quick check at ASUS, and it looks like it might be worth doublechecking to see if your BIOS is up to date. (Some of the BIOS updates they are listing there mention improved SATA compatibility and performance.) But I'm a bit uncomfortable about that advice, since there's a P5SD2-X and a P5SD2-X SE motherborad being listed there.
so it might be prudent to doublecheck your motherboard model prior to any attempted BIOS upgrades. This ASUSTek document may be of some assistance:
Where to find my model name?
Once you've established to your satisfaction what particular model you have, here's links to the two different model pages:
    Model: P5SD2-X
    Model: P5SD2-X SE
If you're at all uncertain as to how to proceed with this, please check in on the ASUSTek FAQs and forums for the relevant Motherboards. (There's links to the left of each of the model pages.) I don't have an ASUS motherboard myself, so they are going to be in a better position to give you focussed advice on the process.

  • Skype Causes Windows to Restart Suddenly

Sometimes when I am using Skype my computer will suddenly restart for no reason. What can I do to fix it? (Using Bootcamp 3.0)

It looks like Fast User Switching is enabled on the OS which seems to be causing your issue. The SSL VPN Client does not support Fast User Switching. Disable this feature

  • ITunes causes windows color quality to drop

I have been using iTunes along with my 3G iPod on my computer for some time now. But for some reason now when I open iTunes now the screen goes black and then when the screen comes back on the color quality has been reduced from 32bit to 8bit.
I have got the latest drivers for my graphics card and I also have the latest version of iTunes.
Can anyone help me with this problem?

Whereever you have a link to iTunes, right-click and hit Properties. Hit Compatibility, and see if anything is checked. If yes, uncheck.

  • Printing duplex with HP Officejet Pro 8600 causes windows 7 OS to shut down/restart

Why when printing duplex with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer it causes windows 7( 64-bit) to shut down/restart. Windows message is "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.  I've ran HP Hardward Diag. Utility and Print and Scan Doctor which indicated everything is working properly with the printer.  Ocassionaly I can print duplex without windows shutting down and restarting, but most of the time it creates issue with Windows causing it to stop and restart.  Single sided printing seems to be fine.  I've already oncehad windows to "Startup Repair" in which ccase I selected restore to a previous working point.  Everything worked for awhile then a duplex printing session starting causing windows to shut down again.   THanks for your assistance.

Yes, the updated USB 3.0 driver corrects the issue and should be installed.

  • I updated to iTunes 11 on my Windows PC. Since the update, when I open iTunes its window is too large for my screen. Resizing is a pain, because I have to change my screen resolution. And when I restart iTunes,it has reverted back to being too large.Help!

I recently updated to iTunes 11 on my Windows PC. Since the update, each time I open iTunes its window is too large for my screen. Resizing it is a pain, because I have to change my screen resolution. And then when I restart iTunes, it has reverted back to being too large. Please help!

Having the same issue here....a quick fix is to just minimize the window, and immediately maximize it.  It will now fit the screen.  Trouble is, after you close it, you'll have to do it again when you re-start itunes.  The good news is it takes all of about 2 seconds.  Apple should fix this.  Should.

  • Itunes on windows 7 causes computer display problem

i have had my laptop for 6 months and it has widows 7, i have used the latest version of itunes(10.1.2) with no problems. Then my kaspersky anti virus expired so i downloaded norton security suite from our internet provider because it was free. The next day when i started up itunes, it caused the screen to go black for a second and when the display came back it was discolored and pixelated, and not just for itunes, it did it for everything i did on the computer. When i quit itunes the display goes back to normal. ive tried itunes after getting rid of norton and that didnt work, ive also re-installed itunes and it didnt work
    can anyone help me?

The next day when i started up itunes, it caused the screen to go black for a second and when the display came back it was discolored and pixelated, and not just for itunes, it did it for everything i did on the computer.
That sounds like a display setting has been engaged in your iTunes compatibility tab.
Try the following document, with the following modification: make sure that *no boxes whatsoever* are checked in the compatibility tab (not just the compatibility mode checkbox):
[iTunes for Windows: How to turn off Compatibility Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1489]
Does that clear up the display trouble?

  • ITunes 11.0.4 for Windows keeps restarting and removing my set-up and preferences

iTunes 11.0.4 for Windows keeps restarting and removing my set-up and preferences every time its shut down and re-opened, how can I stop this?
All of the music (etc) is still there but I need to agree to the terms and condition of the 'Software License Agreement for iTunes for Windows' every time I open iTunes.
Once opened there is no personal set-up, such as side menus and how the lists are set-up (e.g showing album images, music listed in ‘most played’ order, etc etc) I know how to re-do all of my settings, Its just getting very annoying now.
Anyone know how to stop this or at least why It is doing it?

I found why it defaults back to the wizard. I noticed in  C:/users/(User)/AppData/Roaming/Apple  Computer/iTunes/iTunesPerfs.xml file is deleted from this directory upon  exiting iTunes. When I manully restore this file itunes starts with my  correct settings. Why the .xml file being deleted I don't know. iTunes is deleting the file when you exit so I guess there is just a bug.

  • Restart of iTunes on Windows 7 loses connection (binding) with Apple TV.

I run Windows 7 64 bit. I use iTunes 64 bit version 9.0.2.25. I have an Apple TV (ATV) running version 3.0.1.
    1. When I initially connect ATV with iTunes (entering the 5 digit code given by ATV) iTunes starts downloading contents to ATV.
    2. ATV shows connection to my library on iTunes. Fine!
    3. After syncing finished, all contents is shown on ATV. Fine!
    4. I exit iTunes on my PC.
    5. ATV now shows no contents (Capacity 144GB, Free 144Gb). Also, on the Settings | Computer menu, the previous connection to my iTunes librarys is lost. Instead it shows "Connect to iTunes". Not good!
Please advise on what to do. It seems to me that ATV no longer recognizes the new instance of iTunes as significantly different from the one that was just running. There can not have been any network changes (IP address etc.) since both ATV and my Win 7 machines where up and running all the time.
Question 1: What is it in the ATV software that deecides that it must establish a new "binding" with iTunes, i.e., that the existing one is not good and must be discarded?
    2. What is it in iTunes that makes it look so different to ATV when it is exited and then restarted?
I really appreciate any help you can give me to sort this out.
Regards, and warm wishes for a Happy New Year

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

  • ITunes Install won't restart Windows

Since installing iTunes 7, I cannot restart my PC, other than in Safe Mode, and choosing "Last known good configuration". If I uninstall iTunes 7, then I can restart. I have Windows 2000.

It is not a major brand PC. It is from local PC store and was custom built to my specifications. I have no problems running any other software on this PC. It has 256k RAM, over 100 gig free space on the hard drive. The only thing I can think of is there seems to be some conflict between iTunes and the drivers for the CD burner. Thanks.
