Itunes changed nearly all my song ratings

Plugged in my ipod to charge and update library and found out later nearly all my song ratings have changed. When i plugged in my ipod i noticed the set up ipod screen came up which i thought was wierd so it might be connected to that. Either way songs i have not even listened to yet have been rated. Nearly all my ratings have changed and this is super annoying because it takes a while to rate everything. If anyone can help or tell me how to fix this it would be very nice

  • When I update iTunes, it "loses" all my songs stored in a non-default location.  How to prevent?

I store my music library on an external hard drive.  Whenever I update iTunes, it "loses" all my songs.  When the iTunes library updates, all my tracks get little exclamation points next to them because they are not in the default (C:\my music\itunes music) location.  I have my ways of fixing this...but they are a pain.  Is there a way to have my music files not get lost when I update iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Brett

    Hi dklowther,
iCloud only houses access to Music purchased through iTunes. Any music you put on your iPhone from CDs or other sources would only be on your phone and in your iTunes library that you used to sync the songs to your iPhone. You need to move the contents of your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one....

  • Itunes has deleted all my songs from ipod

Hi, I recently tried to update my ipod which had 1,780 tunes on it. My itunes has a library of 2,500 tunes. When I tried to listen to my ipod later it transpired that I had only one tune on it. Itunes had deleted all my songs, my itrip entries, playlists, everything. I have Windows XP and a 4G 40GB ipod.

Sorry I've been offline for a while. I updated iTunes and the new songs were added in the new one. There was a dialogue box that came up saying something like "songs not saved to library you don't have authorization". I clicked on the box. Checked library and all songs are there but not on ipod. Have updated all ipod software too.
Just noticed that I have some songs in C drive and some on D. My main itunes is in D.

My Ipod classic had over 8000 song an now it's empty .My itunes still has all my songs.Help

    Hi Tom35hoboken,
So it sounds like your iPod had music on it that is now gone, and you want to put the music back on from your computer, is that correct? Let's see if we can get you back up and running.
To put your music back on the iPod you will need to sync it again with iTunes on your computer. The manual explains how to do this -
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1195/en_US/iPod_classic_160GB_User_Guide. pdf
In particular see page 19 - Syncing music automatically and page 23 -Managing iPod classic manually.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I just purchased itunes but not all the songs in my library transferred to my second computer.  What can be done?, I just purchased itunes but not all the songs in my library transferred to my second computer.  What can be done?

I just purchased itunes but not all the songs in my library transferred to my second computer.  What can be done?, I just purchased itunes but not all the songs in my library transferred to my second computer.  What can be done?

I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. iTunes the software is a free download. Do you mean you bought a subscription to iTunes Match? If so, what do you mean that your music did not transfer to your second computer. Please describe the issue in as much detail as possible so we can better help you.

  • When I export a playlist and then open in excel, do whatever sorting I want, I then save the file and reimport into itunes but not all the songs are there. It appears to be from "comma's" in the song name. Any solutions?

I see songs such as "Monday, Monday" or "Paint It, Black" or even the artist name such as "Fireballs, with Jimmy Gilmer" which have comma's in them, being a problem when I try to do the following:
    1. Export a playlist which contains songs which are all there and play fine, but some have comma's in the title such as listed above.
    2. I then open that file in Excel and bring it in as a Tab-delimited file.  Everything lays out fine, and all the songs are thing (including those with comma's).
    3. I then sort the varoius fields I want (which I can't do in i-tunes because i-tunes won't sort it properly), and resave the file as a newly named file, which is also a .txt file.
    4. I then import that playlist into my itunes. It is exactly the same songs that I just had exported but i-tunes says some of the songs can't be found.
I have traced this problem to comma's in the file name of the song such as listed above.  There must be a solution to this either as the file is opened in excel or in how it's saved or some other solution short of having to rename song/artists without using comma's.
    Thanks.

The additional problem is the file name of the song itself.  Even if I were able to delete the commas or replace with a space for example, changing the file name would result in itunes not being able to find the file.  I would have to go through each file (out of about 15,000+ songs) to find any that have titles such as described in this thread and change not only the song and artist in the fields, but changing the mp3 file itself.
I fear that I am really pretty much going to have to start with a list of songs that have no comma and then do a file compare to find those songs with commas and then just physically moving them into a new playlist I'm trying to create, but this is a royal pain as I want to be able to create a variety of playlists based on these chart dates/peak positions.
I'm trying to sort the songs in this manner:  I use different fields in itunes so that I can put the "peak position" of each song based on Billboard charts, as well as the date the peak position was acheived. I use the "comment box" for that.  I use the "grouping" field for my peak position.
So I end up with something like "10/14/1980" in the comment box as the peak position for a song which is in the grouping field, and so forth.  If I try to sort the comments column in itunes for example, it won't sort properly. If I sort the Grouping field, it will bring up all the "1's", but that's followed by "10", 11, ...19, then "2", etc.  This is why I want to export the playlist and sort it as I want, and then reimport the playlist into itunes.
What I'm ultimately trying to achieve is a year-by-year peak position playlist so that I end up with every #1 song (in this case) from, say, January 1st 1980 and then every #1 song in sequential order for the rest of the year falls in line.  I have chart position dates from 1955 through 1999.  I have entered in all the data from Billboard books I own so I can really create some amazing playlists, but these commas are problematic. Had I known this ahead of time I would have made "Monday, Monday" as "Monday Monday" and not included commas, but it's too late for that.
    Any suggestions?

  • Is there an easy way to get itunes to find ALL my songs ?

After moving my itunes library to a new hard drive and consolidating it most of my 1000's of songs have an ! mark next to them, which means that itunes can't find that song, movie or tv show. I can individually click on each song, movie or tv show, and direct itunes where to find it and then it's fine, but it would take me the rest of my life to do that to everything I've got. I looked this issue up and found a couple of recent posts of the same question, but the solutions posted have in fact made the situation worse not better. The issue is with my iTunes on 1 hard drive 750gig on my G5 which is running itunes 7.4.2 and Mac OS 10.4.10. This is not a new problem as I have had this on my imac as well when I transferred music to it rather than downloading fresh from a cd.
I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks!
the solution I tried was to drag the library.xml from the itunes folder to the desktop and then open itunes and do file/import/choose and choose the library.xml on the desktop. After doing this I found that the songs I had loccated manually for itunes were now "Lost" again.

I run itunes from an external hard drive as I have too much itunes for my laptop! Part of my "back up" process is to always copy the "itunes library" and "itunes music library.xml" anytime after I buy/add music or change a playlist. Regardless of where your library is kept, those two documents on your hard drive in your music/itunes folder determine your library.
One time I had a hard drive failure and had to reinstall all my itunes stuff (I always back everything up to another hard drive and on dvd). I had not backed up since the last time I had purchased music/tv. When I dragged the two documents to my music folder on my hard drive, the most recent files didn't show up. They were in the music folder, but not appearing in the interface. I had to re-import them through itunes. No biggie. It was only a couple of files and I knew which ones weren't there.
    Good luck!

  • Downloaded 7.1 of iTunes and now all my songs are missing!!

I have been getting a message upon starting iTunes on my PC for awhile not to "upgrade",, which I have been afraid to because everytime I do something goes wrong. today i finally choose the option and upgraded. And of course upon launching iTunes my entire song lists and playlists were gone, including the folders I had created. The screen looked like it did before I bought a single song. I checked my music folder and all my music was still there, and I made sure that "preferences" was still pointing to this folder. It will let me "import" every song, song by song,, but that will take for ever!!!! how do I get iTunes to recognize the music that is in my music folder!!!

Drag the folder to the Music icon in iTunes although you may have lost your ratings and playlist. This is far the easiest way to load all your songs.

  • How do I set up iTunes to keep all the songs in an album together and not rearrange and separate them according to singer / live recording etc.?

When I install an album from a CD, iTunes arranges the songs as multiple albums according to who is listed as the singer and if the songs are marked as being live recordings. If I load an album, I would like all the songs on that album to be listed together under the album's name and not as 3 separate albums!

    You are most welcome

  • How do I re-install iTunes without losing all my songs?

For some reason or another, I haven't been able to update iTunes for a long time now. I want to reinstall it but I am afraid I will lose all of my music.
How can I delete iTunes and still keep all my songs?
    Thanks
btw...I have iTunes currently on an external hard drive so it doesn't eat up space on the computer.

wouldn't that just delete my songs on the itunes with it?
sorry to question you, but it is 5,000 songs and just wanted to clarify

  • How do I get iTunes to play all the songs and albums from the same artist?

Before the update, you used to be able to play all the songs from the same artist across all albums (ie: you have 2 albums from the same artist, you start one, it would play through both in order).  Why did this change, and is there some way to get it to work?

Have you read the link that roaminggnome posted ? What you can redownload will depend upon what country that you are in (music, films, TV shows can't be redownloaded in all ; audiobooks and ringtones are one-time only downloads), whether the item is still in your country's store (content providers occasionally remove them), and whether you've moved countries since buying/downloading them.

  • Syncing ipod with itunes will it tranfer over song ratings?

I just imported my itunes libary from one computer to another and lost my song ratigns and play count. If I sync my ipod with my itunes libary on my new computer will it transfer over the song ratings from the ipod to the computer, or will the computer overide the ratings on my ipod and make everything "unrated"?

Perhaps a corrupted iPod? Why not try a restore (warning: will erase and then resync everything) and see if that clears it up?

  • ITunes grayed out all my songs!!

On iTunes under the "On My Device" when my iPhone 4S is connect has a list of all my songs grayed out with a dotted circle sitting next to each song title.
I don't know how to ungray these songs and I would love to have them ungrayed as you can see on the bottomit says that the songs are on my phone, but there not! If I could find a way to ungray these songs on this website I would be so grateful because I wouldn't be able to get this fized for another two weeks with my schedule.

  • Itunes blew away all my songs on my computer!!!!!!!

    Hello,
I recently reformated my system to start fresh. Before reformatting, I had Itunes installed and had about 10 gigs worth of songs on it. Before formatting, I backed up my documents folder which had all my music in the my music folder along with the itunes xml file and everything else that goes with it.
I reinstalled XP, installed my usual software then restored the backup of my documents. After the restore all my music files were there as expected. I had not installed itunes yet. Tonite, I decided I needed to put itunes back on so I could add some new music to my ipod. I download Itunes, install it and follow the prompts. At some point during the isntall process, it looked like it was importing all the songs back into the itunes library. I come back a bit later and start itunes and lo and behold all my songs are GONE. What the ****. What happened, why would it blow away all my music files? My external drive on which I had the back up of my documents is at work and am hoping I didnt blow it away. I'm hoping I can recover the music when I get to work in the morning. But this really bums me out.
Can someone explain what I could have done wrong here?
    thanks
    Yann

Within iTunes you didn't see any songs but are they on the drive? If so have you tried adding them again? Sometimes the import during new install has made mistakes with the adding to library.
