ITunes changes my song info

For some reason, iTunes likes to keep changing the info for my songs, like genre, album, comments, etc. This results in duplicate songs on my iPod, which is quite frustrating. Is there an option I can turn off or some other way to prevent iTunes from changing/filling in song info?

No one has any ideas?

  • ITunes changes video/album info when I play video/songs

I have purchased movies, tv shows, and music on iTunes, and sometimes when I go to play a song or video I've downloaded iTunes changes the name/album/other info on the video/song, and it then changes where it is located in my iTunes folders, and album art changes as well. What is going on?! I've had it happen multiple times to both songs and videos. And unfortunately, even though it renames the files on my computer and in iTunes causing me to not be able to find them, I can not download them from the cloud because the cloud recognizes that those files are ON my computer (even though they're renamed and I would have to listen to thousands of songs just to find what it's been renamed to).
How can I stop this from happening and losing so much media that I've purchased on this computer?! I'm tempted to delete EVERYTHING, and redownload it from the cloud. However, what's to say it wouldn't happen all over again once I've done that?
Please let me know if you've experienced something similar and what can be done to correct the problem.
    Thank you so much.

I'm having the exact same issue, and it's driving me crazy. Like you, it's been happening for a while, through several updates. This can get confusing, so let me use actual titles to keep this straight. Went to play Lady Gaga "Bad Romance". The album art totally changed to Swell Season and the song "Back Broke" started playing even though the track was still labeled with Lady Gaga info.
So, I tracked down Swell Season "Back Broke" and played that, and it morphed into a completely different song!  I feel like I'm playing whack-a-mole with my songs. AND even though the Lady Gaga track renamed itself to Swell Season "Back Broke" and plays Swell Season "Back Broke", it still sorts alphabetically as if it's Lady Gaga.
My favorite incident so far has been a song with track info A, album art B, and the actual song that plays is C. Three in one combo!  All of these have been with purchased songs.
Deleting and downloading the incorrect tracks from the cloud doesn't do anything. Problem remains. When I tried to redownload Lady Gaga "Bad Romance" from previous purchases in the store, it said that it was "not available in the US store." ????? Should I abandon my itunes library and thousands of dollars worth of purchased songs and just do a monthly thing like Spotify? Because the only solution that has worked so far is REBUYING songs I've already purchased!!
Ridiculous. Apple, find a solution and break it down for me step-by-step. Because I know I'm not the only person with this issue.

  • ITunes Keeps Changing My Song Info

Forgive me if this is an easy fix (of which I hope it is). On my father's laptop it seems like every Wednesday iTunes updates his song library which causes any information he changed to revert back to where it was originally. For example, he has bought individual songs from four separate Elton John albums but condenses them into one custom album that he created. He makes sure all the sorting options match that of his custom album information, but come Wednesday those songs are automatically modified to revert back to their previous settings.
Another example is that I gifted him The Tragically Hip's "Now for Plan A" album, but the bonus track edition. The default name of the album is "Now for Plan A (Bonus Track Edition)." He will customize the album to rid away the Bonus Track part and just leave the rest as is. He does this both for Album and Sort Album for all songs involved. Come Wednesday it will revert it back to the Bonus Track Edition.
Is there a setting I am missing to turn this off? I don't recall having similar issues on my personal iTunes account on a separate computer. He uses Windows, I use OSX.
    Thanks for any help.

In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music

  • Itunes messes up song info

    hey everyone
well i gots me a problem with itunes
i dunno why but it all of a sudden started doing this
i put a song in the library [that already has all the info like artist & year etc etc] and when it gets in there it doesnt show any of the information. just the song name. it doesnt do that to every song i put in there. but its annoying cuz i dont wanna have to copy and paste all the info. ya know?
i dunno what changed. i didnt do anything to it. before it used to read them all good now it doesnt.
    any help please?

    HI djMassrv,
The article below looks like it may be helpful. It's for the previous version of iTunes, but it looks like the informaiton is still revelant for the issue that you have described above.
iTunes 10 for Mac: If song titles don’t appear correctly
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH999
iTunes 10 for Mac: If song titles don’t appear correctly
If a song’s title and information don’t appear correctly, the file was probably created using a program that stores information differently from iTunes. You may be able to resolve the problem by converting the song’s information tags (ID3 tags) to a different storage format.
Converting the ID3 tags is also useful for songs with information in languages that use non-Roman characters, or if you want to use your MP3 files with another program that uses a different format.
To change the format of the song information tags:
Select the songs you want to convert.
Control-click and choose Convert ID3 Tags.
In the window that appears, select “ID3 tag version” and choose a version from the pop-up menu.
If song titles look scrambled after converting information tags:
Some applications don’t translate Unicode characters correctly, resulting in scrambled song titles when you convert the ID3 tags. If your song information looks scrambled after converting the song’s ID3 tags, you can change the song title back to the title it had previously. To reverse the Unicode characters:
Control-click the song and choose Convert ID3 Tags.
Click Translate Text Characters, and then choose Reverse Unicode.
To change the information back to what you had before, choose Translate Text Characters again.

  • Changes to song info won't stick

I've changed the song information for a lot of songs but for some of them it won't save and reverts to the original information.
I've tried some of the suggestions on the messageboard but they haven't helped me. The songs are not read- only and neither itunes or windows media player are set up to download song info from the internet. I've tried to use the "Convert ID3 tags" option but this is greyed out.
Does anyone have any ideas before I tear all my hair out?
    Cheers.

You want to change the value in the view-row, not in the text box.
Certainly one way to get access to this (all from memory, so the method names might be slightly out) is to get the application module from the panelBinding and then find the view from the application module and then get the current row from the view. Er, i.e.
    Row row = panelBinding.getApplicationModule().findViewObject("the-name-of-the-view-to-which-you-bound-the-control").getCurrentRow();
Then you can use the set / get methods you spoke about. (Strictly speaking, from the client-tier you should generally be using the Row interface rather than the RowImpl class.)
However, I wonder whether a more encapsulated way of getting access to the view-row is to start with the control and get the row via some ControlBinding or other. Only I'd have to dig around myself to work out how to do that so I'll leave it to someone else....

  • ITunes changes my song tags

    Hi,
every time I add my music folder to the iTunes library some track names end up getting a different tag. I'd estimate that it's about 1/6 of all my songs that this happens to. It's basically every track on certain albums. Most tags change to this format: http://bayimg.com/image/haoabaabn.jpg (the highlighted one I've clicked on and thereby changed the tag to the correct one)
By just playing/double clicking these tracks the tag changes to the correct one but it's kind of exhausting to click on 500 songs. It would've been fine if I only were to add my music folder once to the library but I add it on the regular to make sure that I synchronize all my songs to my iPod.
I'm guessing someone else must have had this problem and hopefully it can be solved.
And while I'm writing this post I might as well ask another thing. The iTunes default sorting is pretty bad in my eyes. A few things that irritate me:
    * Artist who have the 'The' article don't get sorted under 'T'.
    * Albums are sorted by name, not release year.
    * Artists whose stage names begin with a number don't get sorted at the top.
    * I've tagged track numbers as 1, 2, 3 and so on. Since there's no 0 in front my whole track order gets messed up on my iPod, although not in iTunes. :S
Pretty long post but hopefully someone will be able to help me. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your answer. First of all, I managed to get albums sorted by year now so thank you for that one. Too bad I can't do the other changes. I tag all my songs in an application called 'Mp3tag' and I've been consistent on tagging track numbers as 2 for example instead of 02 or 2/14. I guess I'll have to fill in the 'x of y' in iTunes then so I can get the correct track sorting in iTunes.
Furthermore I don't think it's WMP that's changing my song name tags. I never use the program itself although I use Media Player Classic for playing videos. I tested adding my music folder to the WMP library and all the song tags were correct although some artist tags were wrong, but that's not important.
And just a clarification: my topic is kind of incorrect maybe 'cause iTunes isn't really changing the tags per se. It just shows the wrong song tag and just by clicking on the track it changes to the correct one as I've already written. I would've never minded if it wasn't for the fact that those wrong tags show up in my iPod too.
I use foobar2000 for audio playback and everything shows up just fine in it. A solution to the problem would be if I could play or double click all my songs at the same time but I can only assume that that is impossible? Do you perhaps have any idea how I can solve the problem?
    Thanks!

  • ITunes changes my song titles why???

When I enter my song titles many times I will add some descriptive word to the title for my own information - only maximum 6 letters . I also include the artists name with the song title..
iTune changes the title sometimes it just enters the song title and other times it will enter the song title with the artist name within the song title and other times it just shortens the entry.
Does anyone know if there is a setting that I can change so that iTunes enters the song title as I have entered it. I have looked and cannot find anything.
My song library is almost 5100 songs and I use 2 ipods with my songs on them.
    Thanks for any help.

Hi. Can you tell me where you are editing your song titles. Is it in iTunes once you've added them to your library or are you renaming the file name then adding into iTunes? Thanks,

  • ITunes 11.2.2 doesn't save changes to song info

I use to buy songs in my iPhone and then sync them via iTunes to my MacBook Air.
After sync my recent purchases to my MacBook Air, in iTunes I change the "Genre" for some songs to have a real ordered collection...
    Ex: "Some song title.mp4"
    original genre: Pop
    new genre: Electronic
but I have found that after buying more songs and sync them with my Mac, iTunes sort of "rolls back" the change I made to Genre info. I mean, I cannot find "Some Song Title" under "Electronic" genre but on "Pop" genre. That's so annoying!!!
For some weird reason when I check the song's info, iTunes shows me that "Some Song Title" has correctly saved the genre, I mean, it shows "Electronic" genre. So, if I just push "Next" button iTunes moves "Some Son Title" back to the genre I specified (in this case, back to "Electronic" genre).
Hope you can ix this bug as this is very annoying to have an unordered collection, or songs under incorrect genres.
    Thanks!

  • Umlaut bug in iTunes 5 (Entering song info)

There seems to be a bug handling Umlauts in iTunes 5.0:
You cannot enter one as a first or second letter when entering artist or composer info. E.g.: Ü is automatically converted to U. So to enter "Jürgen" you'd have to enter Juürgen, then delete the u. I haven't tested this exhaustively but I imagine this also applies to other non-standard characters. Any similar experiences?

    Dear Michael,
what exactly are you trying to say? That all discussion should be in English? That German problems should not be discussed in English? My original post was in English since I wanted to know if people with other "funny characters", like the scandinavian ae might have the same problem. Sorry for not speaking Danish or Swedish. I do hope that Apple programmers scan these forums for user feedback so they might want to read the post, too. Are you offended now by the German insider discussion about Ü? FYI, now that we seem to have analyzed the problem I posted a message to OS-X feedback (in English). So, really. What is your problem?

  • ITunes changes my song titles

Anyone know if there is a setting that tells iTunes to enter a song title just as I have entered it.
I add a 6 characted set after the song title for my own information. Most of the time iTunes ignores this and just enters the song title and ignores my additional entries.
    Anyone know of a fix?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  • Changing song info in Itunes and the actual file names

How can I change the song info in iTunes and make it change the actual file names?
It gets a bit tiring after every single time iTunes updates I have to re-organize my 3000+ songs. I tried to do a quick search for an answer in the forums but I wasn't exactly sure what I should search for so sorry if this is a duplicate post.
Is this possible? (does this make sense?)
    Thanks!

I have the option checked and I made several changes to the ablums name and song names for several songs in my library. iTunes changed the files to the new folder names and renamed the files.
The only problem is that I have empty folders of the old album names.

  • ITunes 12 changes song info

    Hi,
iTunes 12 is changing my song info after I've played the song. In Edit/Preferences/Store, I have un-ticked all the boxes including 'Share details about your library with Apple'. I tried disconnecting from the internet then played a song but it still changed the info which makes me think the info is stored somewhere locally on my computer.
Everything has been fine until today when it just suddenly started doing this. Hopefully someone knows how to fix this
    Thanks,
    Mark

So when playing anything I just get this a the top which doesn't seem quite right looking at the screenshots I've seen with track info and a small album thumbnail on the left?

  • Cant change song info on new ios update

ok ever since i updated to iOS5 i cant change the song info on my ipod touch when i change the info on itunes?!?! it syncs but song info dosnt change ie. the song name, album.

check out does iTunes detect song codec and ID3-tag is v.2.3 or 2.4. If iTunes shows that it's unknow, you can't change tag ..... it's a bug which appeared in 10.5.x
I have the same problem when dropping songs into device, but there is a solution, convert songs in mp3 or other format, use, for example, Xilisoft Audio Converter Pro. So, I've lost over 1 Tb music I have underlined a string where you can see name of codec.

  • Changing song info?

Is it possible to change the song info in Itunes? For some reason the groups are not all correct so I have rock, ROCK, and Rock. I would like to be able to change these so they are all the same and my Ipod will group them all together.

You can actually access the "Get Info" screen by Right-clicking, and selecting Get Info. Plus, selecting work like anything else.
If you select one item, then an item further down the list while holding SHIFT, all items inbetween and including those two will be selected. Then right click somewhere in that selection and select Get Info. Any info you edit will apply to all of those items. Any fields that are blank, mean they are different across items.
If you want select multiple items, but bit by bit, you can hold CONTROL, and select multiple items that way too. Then right click any selected item and go to Get Info like before.
