ITunes changes song name when song is playing

I imported a CD that was made from a digitally downloaded album. When I did the import into iTunes, all the songs were imported as Track 1, Track 2, etc. I went into Get Info, Info tab, for each song and updated each song with the correct title. When I play any of these songs, the title will revert back to Track #. I do have my prefs set up to automatically retrieve CD track names from the internet. I'm running iTunes 9. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Sounds like Windows Media Player is "fixing" the info in the ID3 tags for you.
When you play it in iTunes, it will update the library to match the ID3 tags, which is why it looks like iTunes is doing it.
In WMP, Tools -> Options -> Library.
Uncheck *Automatic media information updates for files*.
Any songs that WMP already messed with, you will need to add the info back.

You get this message because  iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.
Do any of these aply to you?

  • ITunes playlist songs disappear when selected to play

iTunes playlist songs disappear when selected to play - ie double-clicked, or clicked once and then play selected. The song doesn't play although there is a brief 'flash' of something at the top of the screen where you would normally see the song details mwhile playing.
The song is not deleted from the library but is still missing from the playlist when iTunes is restarted.

I hate to pay for these songs again since I already purchased them from the iTunes store, but I don not know what other options are available. Has anyone had this problem and if so, is there a way to fix these songs?
Usually that occurs when the file, or one of its containing folders, is moved, renamed, or deleted. If you remember doing one of those things, see if you can put it back the way it was. Otherwise, search on your hard drive for the song file, and re-add it to your library.

I am able to play the songs in my iTunes library without any issues and there is no "!" next to the listed songs in my library.
It is only when I try to sync my devices that this problem arises.
The songs are also on my laptop and not on an external hard drive.
Can someone please help me out.
    Thanks

    Hey thanks for the reply.
When the box pops up there is no option to search for the location. I just have to click ok.
Then when I go to the songs with problems in my iTunes library and try to play them they play fine.
It is only while syncing that iTunes for some reason is unable to locate the song.
    Any suggestions?

If only one song is doing that, that suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • ITunes Changes iPhone Name

In iTunes 12.0.1 when I connect my iPhone 4S running iOS 8.1.1 named Thom's iPhone 4S, iTunes changes the name to iPhone without me touching it.  It doesn't do it all the time but more than 50% of the time the name for my iPhone comes up as a generic iPhone rather than the name I have set for it.
Is this happening to others?  Or is it a glitch in my iTunes installation?

if you go into the summary page in itunes you can just click on the name of the phone and change it there

  • ITunes changes mp3 names

I have a bunch of MP3 audios I purchased online and when I "Add To Library" iTunes changes the names of the files. This causes some problems because it gets the files out of order. Is there any way to import without iTunes changing the file names?

The files are copied in to the iTune smedia folder and the filenames are change to the Name field of the ID3 tags.
Rename it in iTunes and it will rename the file.

  • Changed account name--lost songs in itunes

I changed the name on my account, and all my music files from i-tunes went with the other account. I was wondering if i plugged in my i-pod into my mac now, if that it will delete everything from my i-pod and just have the songs that are in my i-tunes now, or if it would just add the new songs?
Please some one help with this

I'm a PC user, but it sounds like your new account will have come with a set of empty user folders:- desktop, documents, music library, etc. Unless you deliberately wiped the old account, and all the files associated with it, your old iTunes library should still be on your computer somewhere. You should be able to track it down and move it to the equivalent location for your current account. When you start up iTunes your old libray should then appear. The alternative is start your new/current version of iTunes and re-import all the tracks from wherever they are hiding just now. If your old workspace is trashed and you can't recover the tracks from it then you'll want to look at something like Zevoneer's post in this thread.

  • ITunes screen flicker/flash when song changes

I recently ugraded to 10.7.5, along with the other suggested updates from Software Update (iTunes, Java, etc).  Now, whenever I select a song in iTunes or the playlist finishes one song and moves to the next, my monitor screen flashes or flickers for a second.  Very disruptive when you're trying to work.  I have no idea if this is an iTunes issue, OS X, or something else.  I reapired permissions through Disk Utility and Onyx, but nothing has helped resolve this issue.  Any ideas?  Thank you!

Basically if you had your iTunes dock set up to show which song was 'now playing' as a pop up notification.
You will have to kill that operation, details in the link above.
That link was very helpful. I did not have iTunes set to pop-up notifications of playing songs, but I decided to try resetting the notifications anyway. Beautiful. At first glance, it appears to have solved the problem:
    defaults delete com.apple.dock itunes-notifications ; killall Dock
That should do it. Thanks for the pointer to my solution.

  • How do I keep MY folder and song names when converting?

I am trying to convert a whole library full of my song files and iT is renaming folders and files.
I also posted this problem in "Using iTunes." Then though maybe I was using the wrong forum. So I am trying here. Sorry if this is bad, let me know.
I'm lost and confused. During converting files (from MP3 to AAC) iT breaks up my folder full of song files and redistributes the files under newly created folders. For example: I have a folder I titled, "Latin-Mixed." In it are about ten songs by different groups. After iT made the conversions I found ten folders, each was named by the name of the group or artist, and in each was a song file, sometimes with a new title different from mine - like, mine was "01-Compay Segundo-Chan Chan." iTunes changed it to "Track 1." Sometimes the reverse occurs. All I had was a track number, but iT found the full song title and put it in (that part is a plus).
Right now, I am manually dragging each song back out of those individual folders and recreating my one folder (Latin-Mixed) and putting them in it, trashing all the folders iT made. What a pain.
Can anyone help me with this?

First of all, thanks a lot for your help. I AM learning. But you are correct in your closing assumption, not quite clearer than mud. Are you willing to go a little further with this?
I'll take that as a yes. Here goes.
You wrote: "No you don't have to drag a folder to the iTunes window. What I an referring to is that you have selected the top tab of the Source column, named "Original" and that is how you are viewing the tunes in the main window."
What do you mean by Original?
I keep all my music on an external drive. But this is not my Music Folder. Since iT and I have been struggling, I have assigned my Music Folder on an internal drive but use it as a temporary holding area. As conversions are complete (now, compilations, thank you) I drag them off to my permanent external drive. So I thus clear the main iT window of everything by deleting what was there and was converted. I also have multiple Libraries. This one I have called "Conversion_Lib." So, is what you are referring to as Original, my Conversion_Lib?
Assuming the last sentence above is true, then my problem goes back to the first question: if I don't drag a folder of tunes into the main window, how do they get there? And if I select the top tab of the Source column (my Conversion_Lib?) then I have a blank window.
    OK. Moving on.
You wrote: What you could do is take your tunes and assign them to various albums named the way that YOU want the music files to stay nested. For example - X-mas 1 mood 1 - X-mas 2 mood 2, Latin mix Salsa, Latin mix Samba. Assign the tunes to those various folders then make sure that you have told iTunes that those songs belong in a compilation.
"Assign them to albums..." "Assign the tunes to those various folders."
You lost me here. Do you mean take a group of tunes on my hard drive (the ones I want to convert) and put them in folders (your "albums?) and name those folders as I want? Like the example you gave above. Which is basically what I have now - but on my hard drive, not in my Music Folder. (Is this where I am losing you?) But, assuming this is the case, what do you mean by "assign the tunes to those various folders?" Isn't that what I just did?
Next you suggest, "Ok you have sorted your tunes and assigned them to an album named XXX. sort your tunes in the iTunes window with "Album", then select all the tunes assigned to album XXX..."
Lost me again. Assign them to what album, where? Do you mean create a folder in iT? I'm really lost here.
If you can get me past these questions, the rest of what you wrote, I think I can understand and actually do.
You're really being helpful and I appreciate it. I've already learned a lot.

  • No More Song Recommendations When Song Bought On iTunes?

Before the recent upgrade, every time I purchased a song from iTunes, the genius bar would pop up on top with recommended songs based off of the song that I bought.  That bar no longer appears when I buy a song and when I activate the genius option it now only recommends songs currently in my library, not new songs that I could potentially buy.
Is anyone else having this problem or happen to know how to fix it?  Any help is much appreciated.

hi. i just found this article that explains how to get those genius song recommendations back:
In order to have Genius suggest new music to you, just need to follow these simple steps.
Begin by ensuring that you're running iTunes 8 or higher and have Genius turned on (which means having an iTunes account and being signed into it). While iTunes 8 is the minimum to use Genius, the instructions and images in this article use iTunes 11 and higher.
Next, click on the Album view across the top of your music library. This will show your iTunes library as a series of album covers, alphabetized based on the name of the album.
Navigate through your iTunes library to the album you want Genius to use as the basis for your discovery of new music. This will open reveal all the songs on the album.
At the right side of the section that just opened, you should see two options: Songs and In the Store. Click in In the Store. This contacts the iTunes Store and downloads the Genius recommendations for this album.

  • "cannot find songs online" when trying to play/import from cd.

When trying to play/import a cd I get "cannot find songs online" message. Only Track # & time are displayed. When trying to get cd info I get "not registered for online use" message. Never did this before. Thanx in advance for any help.

The "not recognized for on-line use" error is associated with the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to look up and retrieve metadata for CDs.  Some users have reported that this error occurs when trying to import from CD, subsequent to upgrading to version 12 (though the number of reports has reduced significantly since 12.1 was released).  A number of slightly different solutions have been reported (though all of a similar nature).
Try walking through the following steps - before starting you may have to enable hidden files and folders to be viewed - in Windows 7 / Windows Explorer select Organize > Folder and search options, then on the View tab make sure that Show hidden files, folders and drives is selected.  I don't have a Vista system to check whether its different, but you may need to:
Select Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization
    Click Folder Options
    Select the View tab
Under Advanced Settings, click Show hidden files and folders, then click OK.
Without this you won't see the AppData folder in C:\Users\username\.
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
    If this doesn't work:
In iTunes, select Edit > Preferences and make a note (or take a screenshot) of your preferences settings in all relevant tabs
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following file:iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If this second procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1.
    If this one didn't work:
    Exit iTunes
    Check the following folders:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete any copies of the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
Again, if this procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1 of the second procedure.
If you're still not able to retrieve CD info:
    Exit iTunes
In Windows, select Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.  Find the entry for iTunes, right-click and select Repair.
When this process has finished, restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If none of these have worked (and almost everything I've seen suggests you should be OK by this point), you may have an issue with the installation and configuration of iTunes itself.  If you have got this far, see turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for advice on how to remove and replace of all components of iTunes.

  • What do the bouncing bars in the iTunes display window represent when music is playing? Volume of particular frequencies in a stereo field maybe?

I've noticed that songs that I think are recorded really well, as far as good and clear instrument or voice placement in the stereo field, have all the bars bouncing like one big happy family. I'd like to learn what they are showing so that I can replicate that same kind of bounce in the songs I write, mix and master. I think that it would be a great reference tool for me as I develop a song.
It's seems clear that the two sets of bars ( 20 bars each ) are the left and right stereo fields, and I've assumed that bars rising vertically represent the volume of an instrument at that particular pan of the stereo field. But, I've been unsuccessful in being able to control which bars bounce with songs I've recorded and played through iTunes. I've tried panning both mono and stereo tracks.
Can anyone help me here? Thanks!

    Do the following two things:
In the left-hand pane, right-click the name of the playlist, choose Edit Smart Playlist, and make sure that "Live Updating" is checked.
In the list itself, click the column header for "Last Played" so that the list will sort according to when it was played, with most recent on top.

  • ITunes changes track order when burning discs

When burning a playlist to disc iTunes changes the track order.  I want the disc to have the same track order as my playlist.  How do I do that?

    Jim VanLeeuwen wrote:
How your CD appears in iTunes depends on the column selections. In list view in iTunes, select the column to the left of the track names to see the CD track order. To see the actual order of the tracks on the CD, open the CD in Finder by double-clicking the CD on the desktop. The tracks will be preceded by a number corresponding to their order on the CD and that is the order they should play in your CD player. If you use the Finder's list view, your CD should reflect the order in the playlist you burned it from.
Play the CD in your CD player? Does the order match the original playlist?
Nope, when I put it in my car CD player the tracks are randomized. On the playlist I can put the tracks in the order that I wanted them in and when I burn them iTunes randomizes the order on the cd. I've burned it 4 more times and each time the tracks have been randomized. This is also with a cd that I bought from the ITS. So the playlist is in track order and I even checked the tags and the numbers are in the correct order.
