ITunes changing movie genre

I appears that iTunes Rev 11.1.5 and earlier has been changing my DvD movie genres in my library. I can set the genre and come back weeks later and they all seem to default to Action & Adventure which happens to be the first custom genre in my list. This issues has been happening for several iTunes revs now. I have a large movie collection so going back and reentering the genres is not a solution. The issue voids me of any genre sorting.

  • Changing Movie Genre Corrupts File?

I believe I just discovered a pretty mean bug. I was trying to organize the videos in my iTunes "movies" section, including some home videos. I wanted to add a "genre" to my home videos, so I went to "get info" and manually added the genre "Home Videos." After that, the thumbnail picture disappeared from the videos, and a few minutes later they were unplayable. I replaced them with fresh copies (thank God I'd backed them up), repeated the process, and it happened again. Does it make sense for this to be linked to the "genre" change, or do I have a virus, or is my iTunes just fubar?

  • Why and how is iTunes changing the genre?

    Mac OSX 10.9.4
    iTunes 11.3
I have many songs in my iTunes account. I have found that if I modify the genre to my liking, it doesn't stay that way. For some reason after a period of time it changes/reverts to another genre. Here is the funny part. If I click on the info button, the genre that I modified it to, is still listed, however when it is grouped...it is grouped into another genre.
To fix it, I have to go into each genre, find each song incorrectly categorized, hit info, and save (I don't even have to change anything)...and it goes back to where I wanted it.
Why is this? Since my categorization was saved, why and how does it get re-grouped? I thought that it changed whenever I had an update or closed iTunes, but this grouping changes at any given time.
It is getting tiresome having to resave everything.
How can I stop this from happening? If the goal is to allow me to customize the genres, why won't it stick?

Go to iTunes > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music
Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data.

  • Why is iTunes automatically changing my genre metadata?

    MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2012
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Software: OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
    iTunes 11-2-2 (3)
    64-bit
Why is iTunes automatically changing my genre metadata?
For the past couple months I’ve noticed that iTunes has been changing genre information in my music library.  This is a problem because I’ve spent the past decade tweaking the metadata in my iTunes Library to be exactly the way that I want it (particularly with genre and grouping information).
I have a very large iTunes library and I’ve changed genre and grouping info for organizational reasons.  When iTunes changes the genre of my music, it’s effecting my smart playlists and causing a domino effect of mis-organization.  Tracks and albums are popping up in multiple genres, and things are getting disorganized very quickly.
I suspect that iTunes is changing the genre info of my purchased music back to how it appears in the iTunes store and that this is going to be a new ongoing Apple issue that is quietly ignored.  If that’s the case, then I would like some feedback from other users who may have some helpful advise to disconnect iTunes from the mother ship of the iTunes Store.  If this is the way it’s going to be, then I’ll simply stop buying music from iTunes and try to use iTunes as a stand alone music player (if possible).  If that is NOT possible, then I’ll be looking into moving my entire music library to different software and completely removing myself from iTunes.  After a decade of loving iTunes, that would obviously be a shame, but losing control of my library is a deal breaker.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Other notes/observations:
-I am NOT using iTunes Match
    -Genius is turned OFF
-Tracks being automatically edited is music that has been purchased from the iTunes Store
-Not all tracks purchased from the iTunes Store is being automatically edited
-If I Command-Info a track that has been edited by iTunes, the metadata changes back to what I had changed it to.  But ONLY when I Command-Info or play the track.  Otherwise the track stays lost in it’s reversed genre and the track disappears from smart playlists that it’s included in.

Yep, others are seeing the same thing and I have not seen a solution posted yet.
Send feedback to Apple and wait very patiently and keep fingers crossed they do something about it, eventually, someday.

  • ITunes 11 - how can I change the genre of a movie now?

So I've had iTunes 11 for about 3 hours now and so far it *****.  One of my main problems is I can't find how I can change the genre of a movie anymore.  I used to do this from Get Info so I could organise all my movies in to my own genres that make sense to me which helps me find what I want to watch when using Apple TV.
It will still let me do that for movies I bought before I "upgraded" to 11 but for the movies I bought this evening, after upgrading, the genre drop down is locked down.
Am I just looking in the wrong place?  Or have Apple somehow got the idea that pointlessly preventing your customers from organising their content in their own way is somehow an improvement and I'm stuck with their nonsensical genre classifications?
Same thing goes for movie titles now I think of it - I've edited movie titles after purchase (e.g. I've put HP1 in front of the title of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and HP2 in front of Chamber of Secrets) so that series list in watching order, rather than alphabetical order, on my Apple TV.  It's not letting me do that from Get Info either
Please someone tell me I'm just doing it wrong - I don't think I've the patience to jump through the hoops necessary to get 10.7 back!

I had the same bug in songs. It was directly related to tracks purchased in the iTunes store, they wouldn't allow any changes, it was all grayed out.
Here's how I got around it. When I selected more than one item and any other item was not from the iTunes store it would allow me to Get Info and change everything with no problems.
My suggestion is that if you need to, add in a movie from your hard drive (anything at all, it will be a dummy placeholder) that you can you use to select along with the one you need to change. Use command click to select non-contiguous files (even works in different genres), then get info (or command i) and then change your info. You can keep using the same dummy file for as long as you need to to fix the files with incorrect info, then delete it when done.

  • Change iTunes Movie Genre in iCloud

Simple problem.  I buy a movie on iTunes.  Once downloaded, I change the genre of the movie.  I then update iTunes Match.  However, on AppleTV under Movies > Purchased, the genres that show are not my iTunes genres and the movie has the store genre, not mine in iTunes.  If I go to Computers on AppleTV and connect directly to my iTunes library, the genre is the way I want it.
How do I change the genre of an iTunes purchased movie in iCloud/iTunes Match and have that genre show up in Movies > Purchased on AppleTV?

iTunes Match and iTunes in the Cloud are not the same service and using the "update iTunes Match" command will have no affect on the ID3 tags of videos in the cloud. In fact, at this time, it is not possible to change the tags of videos in the cloud. To use custom ID3 tags in your videos, download them to your computer and share them with the Apple TV via Home Sharing.

  • When using just Apple TV, how can I change the Genre of a movie?

It's using iCloud and some of the movie genre's make no sense. For example, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark is listed as Horror, but Elvira's Haunted Hills is showing as Comedy.
I do realize that Elvira Movies are generally listed as Comedy/Horror on IMDB, and that's fine. However I'd prefer to have these movies listed together properly when looking at movies by Genre.
Additionally, The Lost Boys is listed as a Comedy where as it really should be a horror film. It's humor is secondary after all.
Is there a way for me to change, individually, my movies genre? I don't care if it affects anyone else or not, it just doesn't help me to have them so disjointed. This is only using Apple TV and the movies that stream directly from iTunes central database, not anything located on my personal devices (I can change those just fine locally and they will show up correctly if I just look at it via a computer connection.

  • ITunes movie genres reverting?

I have a growing collection of iTunes movies from both iTunes store purchases, as well as digital downloads bundled with discs.
Apple likes to categorize just about everythign into "Action & Adventure".  I have changed the genre on some of the purchased movies to things like "Kids & Family", "Thriller" or "Sci-Fi & Fantasy".
Every once in a while, I will restart iTunes on my Mac Mini and notice that genres have reverted back to (probably) their defaults.  When I look at the "Get Info" data for a reverted video, I notice that the genre I've changed it to (e.g. "Kids & Family") is correctly listed there, but the movie is grouped into the "Action & Adventure" genre within iTunes.  Interestingly, I will change nothing in the Get Info dialog, click on OK and the movie magically appears in the genre category I "moved it to".
Music tracks do this, as well, but let's just focus on Movies; does anyone know of a work around to stop this annoying behavior from iTunes?
    Thanks, in advance.

I'm sorry you are having the same issues, but feel vidicated that I am not alone with these challenges.  I really like the Apple eco-system for media, and this is definitely a 1st-world problem, but is very annoying nonetheless.
On the music side, I went into my iTunes account "Purchases" link and set as Hidden all of my iTunes store music purchases.  I just did this last night and we'll see if this helps with my music problems (which have been endless, since signing up for iTunes Match - which I disconnected from all of my devices awhile back).
I have a number of movie sound tracks that keep reverting to "Compilation" and changing genre; I went through these and correct them all, after hiding them in the store.  We'll see.  If this works, I may do the same with Movies.
TV shows have (mostly) worked really well because I rarely need to edit the meta data for these (exceptions being some recent episodes were missing the season number, which screws up how they sort in Apple TV).  I fixed some of these last night (Ghost in the Shell: Arise) and we'll see if they stick.
I would be OK with hiding songs and movies, but TV shows are really nice in the cloud, since new episodes update frequently.

  • How can i stop itunes changing manually typed in genres when playing a track?

    hi,
for a long time, itunes has been changing genre information that i typed in manually when playing a track, example giving "soundtrack" to "Filmmusik" or "rock" to "Rock" (i prefer lower case letters). until upgrading to itunes 11, it was able to edit the localizable.strings file and set the predefined genres to lowercase and "Filmmusik" to "soundtrack" and so on. now i had to install itunes 11 to run my new ipod, and the localizable.strings file looks quite different. it doesn't seem to be the file now where the necessary updates have to be done.
therefore, first question is if anyone can tell me where i can find the predefined genres and update them? then i will have a workaround at least.
actually, i would prefer to stop itunes changing track information in any case. i've spend more than a year to import all my cd's and used lots of time to have reliable track informations. i don't want the software to change my data without me committing any change. also, even worse, itunes updates the aac-file itself as well. i used to use the last updated information as a criteria in intelligent playlists, but itunes makes it impossible to get the expected result with its unwanted updates.
so, any help will be aprreciated. in case it should matter, i have an imac with os x 10.6.8. the problem seems to occur only in itunes, when i play the tracks on my ipod, the information remains unchanged. and since i read about similar problems with songs from the itunes store - all my tracks are imported from cd manually.
    regards,
    andi

Dependent upon which view you are using to look at the album, they will be playing in the "view" order. For example, in the screenshot below, in the Songs view, I have a view of an album like this, while the song "Follow Me" is playing:
Look carefully at the picture and you will notice that the sort order for this view is in "reverse Last Played order", and if you now look at the Track No. column, you will notice that "Follow Me" is track 12, the last one on the album. If you also look at the Up Next list, you can see every track from the album, in the same order as they appear in the main window, so it will play in reverse order.
To play this album in the correct track order, I simply click on the Track No. column header (so that the arrow is pointing up) and then select the track at the top of the list, track 1, "Sunset Song". Look at this screenshot:
Notice that now, the tracks in the Up Next list are in track order and the album will play in the correct order.

  • Itunes changes genre information on its own

Often I find that when I begin playing a song, iTunes will change (or have changed prior to launch) the information that I have already stored for that song. i.e., if I double click a song to play it, iTunes will change the genre to something else on its own, and then I have to go and change it again to what I wanted it to be. Is there a way to turn this off, or prevent it from happening? It's really causing me headaches.

I literally just noticed this. Played a song out of music and was like "***!" as I watched it immediately change the genre. Opened info and changed it back. Dbl-clicked to play it and watch it change AGAIN.
One artist, with 9 albums, all bought in iTMS. ALL exhibit the same behavior. Just bought their latest album VIA AMAZON, did everything I usually do after buying an album - select full album, open info and change everything to what my smart playlists expect. Closed. NONE of the songs change genre on play.
So, this issue only appears to be w/ songs purchased from the iTMS. I did seem to figure out how to stop this at least. Instead of changing the genre in the info dialog, change it FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL SONG in the music list by editing the genre cell for that song. ROYAL PITA but it seems to stick at least for now.
Since I usually buy an album, edit for smart playlists and then listen via playlists, I can only imagine HOW MANY OF MY SONGS I'VE GONE TO THE EFFORT TO TAG THAT HAVE BEEN CHANGED WITHOUT MY KNOWING. WHAT IS THIS!?!?! WINDOWS?!?!? IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO THAT, DON'T LET US WASTE OUR TIME EDITING FIELDS!!!!
So. Anyway. Hope that helps you out Bri Guy. I now have to track down all songs from the last 5 years apparently and manually fix each one by hand.
Needless to say I will NEVER buy any music from the iTMS again.

  • ITunes My Movies - Sort by year in genres view

    Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if it's a topic already solved but so far I didn't found it anywhere.
    Anyway, what I wonder is
In the iTunes My Movies section you have 3 kinds of viewing. "Movies" "Movie List" "Genres"
Each one have different type of sorting
In "Movies" and "Movie List" every sorting works fine
In "Genres", even if I select the "by Year" sorting it will continue to sort it by title...
    Any clues?

    You mean like that?

  • ITunes movie Genres

How can I create a movie genre in iTunes?

Right-click (or Control-click) on the movie and select Get Info from the pop-up menu. In the panel that opens, click on the Info tab. At the bottom of the panel you will see an item labelled "Genre". Type a genre name in the box to create a new genre, or click on the down pointing arrow to reveal genres already in place.

  • Itune movie genres

    Hi,
I have several videos stored in Itunes under "Movies".
I have noticed that you can create "Genres" or categorize the videos or movies to better organize them.
How do you go about creating new categories or "genres"
    to file your videos under?
    Thank you.

If you right mouse click on an item, select info then the space to set the Genre is at the bootm. If the Standard Genres are not suitable then type in your own in the box. It will Then be available for future use.

  • I'm having problems with iTunes that keeps changing the genre of music that I have already changed

I'm a Dj and I make extensive use of inteligent playlists mostly defined by genre and classification.
I currently have about 70 different playlists, and almost everyone are very important, because I know what music to play, but in some cases I don't remember the name. So it's very usefull for me to know where I can find it according to the genre that I defined.
BUT!! WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT iTunes keeps changing the genre of some music to the previous that is available on the itunes store (that I don't use because is too vague)
Do you know what might be happening?

    Hello Torre,
DAQmx is in fact more efficient than Traditional DAQ, so this behavior you describe shouldn't be the rule. I haven't been able to debug/check thoroughly your code, so here's what I suggest:
    a) Try the W2000 option to give more time to background processes (see this link).
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/28A6979ECA9A0CAF862569050053D92D?opendocument
    b) Try with the LabVIEW supplied DAQ examples which do a similar task and test/compare their performance
    c) Check with the LabVIEW tools where the time is spent (Profile VIs tool)
    Hope this will help !
    Regards,
    JorgeM.
